Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Is there anything worth getting on fandangoNOW with the promo credit?
If there's not a sale going on leading up to whichever award show is this weekend, then there probably will be one after.
I'm like oh sweet I might bite on that. Go to the store, already own it. Oops
I also went through 4 Xbox 360 consoles and never got Hexic for free so I'm glad someone pointed out it's free now. Thanks!
I thought they just made it free a few years ago. Maybe it was temporary then?

I second the recommendation for First Man. $5 for the UHD version is not a bad deal.

A few other suggestions:

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse comes out in a couple of days but you can pre-order it now. I haven't seen it yet but everyone seems to love it.

Personally I used my promo credit to grab The Favourite for $10. It's not for everyone but I really enjoyed the director's last flick (The Killing of a Sacred Deer) so I took a gamble on it. Really enjoyed it. This review pretty much sums up my thoughts on it (NWS for a few f-bombs):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfVngO3IXto

Played a little bit of the trials rising beta. Fun like usual trials. It's been a while since I've played fusion, so don't know if much has changed other than lootboxes. Got to a series of 3 races and was not doing well, so I gave up but can't imagine there was much after it. Think it will be one of my last GCU orders since a cert I have brings it to almost 50% off the hold version.

Wonder if we'll get Trials Evolution on BC ever but wonder if there's something going on with music rights or something. I have it under delisted on my 360 games list.

Not too surprising based on reactions I've heard. I mostly quoted you though because I remember you play(ed) overwatch and wanted to see what your thoughts on the gif that was posted the other day was. Didn't really look into it much, is it sombra related?

New Talon medic that Sombra hacked in a found info on or something is the lore that I saw. Just a tease for a character. I do think it's a bit questionable that this will be the FOURTH healer that they've added since launch. Hell, this would be the second Talon hero since Moira fits that description.

Honestly the game has gotten kind of stale for me since the meta tends to stay the same for months at a time. Other than that I really hate that they've now chosen to essentially change a character's move set (Symmetra) so entirely that functionally she's basically a new character. I did like to play Sym, but if they did this to Pharah I'd probably be done with the game. The way the drip feed lore/story elements so slowly has started to bother me too.

I still love the characters and the concept of the game, but I think they need to add new ways to engage with it. Fortnite continues the keep my attention because new stuff is constantly added every week. Halo stuck with me for so long because Forge and custom games meant there could always be interesting stuff to do. Maybe a map editor or more in-depth customs options would do something for me. I think they could do something with progression too. Currently it feels extremely stale after two (three?) years because it is still pretty much entirely grind slowly for loot boxes that you have no influence over, or play a lot of Competitive to get more gold weapons. Even the events feel lazy now since they don't add anything but new cosmetics and maybe decorate one additional map.

Overwatch

Yeah, I hear you on it getting a little stale. The achievements are keeping me interested whenever there's an event since they haven't been adding anything since I think the archives mode last spring unless I'm mistaken? I've been playing characters I don't usually play to change it up and get their achievements. I never played much symmetra before but the rework seemed like the biggest change since the mercy changes.

The mercy (kind of), dva and ana events on twitch and in game have been a nice addition but don't know if that's enough. It also doesn't look like the OWL pass gives you anything in game (at least not yet) like it did last year, which is a bummer.

I thought I saw something about a new support character, didn't know it was connected to the gif. I usually play support and it seems like that's mostly what they've been adding which even I think is unfortunate.

With the new xbox announcement rumors I wonder if we ever see an overwatch 2 or if they just continue the first game through next gen and continue what they're doing.

A few more 360 deals added. Mega Man 9 and 10, puzzle fighter...
Puzzle Fighter needs to be BC, probably top of my wishlist.

I'm starting to feel a sense of dread as I progress in Anthem. I'm still enjoying it and wonder if it's going to turn at some point with the tidal wave of hate. Did have a hard crash during freeplay this morning so I know it's still got a long way to go.

I'm enjoying it, too. I think a lot of the criticisms are due to general "let's hate on EA" sentiments. A lot of specific things mentioned aren't even valid. Some said the story was confusing -- that's BS. I haven't finished it yet, but so far it's so straightforward. Bad guy wants something, we're trying to stop them from getting it. I think that reviewer was confusing the side missions as part of the main story. And the criticisms about the load screens are overblown. They're fine. The ones in Skyrim were way worse.

As long as you're enjoying something, ignore all the negative press. I'm enjoying the heck out of Anthem.

This came out better than I thought it would. They need to up the amount of stickers you can place on skin which is why there are no red markings, and they really need to allow you to adjust facial features. Without the eyes it's not quite there, but this does look pretty good in motion. I've been reading the manga now so I might make a modified version with the big hair and some tweaked clothing.

I'm enjoying it, too. I think a lot of the criticisms are due to general "let's hate on EA" sentiments.
I keep seeing this as a counter argument and I feel like we should keep in mind that Apex Legends came out to a massive amount of praise a couple of weeks ago. If a game is good and there isn't bullshit around it, then it generally isn't trashed just because EA published it. Yes, there was a lot of skepticism in that day or so of leaks before the game was out, but that cleared right up as people played it.

I haven't played the full game but I've seen a good chunk of the story. I wouldn't say it is confusing, just boring. It's pretty bad by Bioware standards, which is admittedly a fairly high bar for a game to be compared to.

I hear ya. The difference to me is that Apex just released without any prior marketing and therefore no set expectations. Plus public reception was good from the start so it would be hard to push against this positive tide. (Not to mention it's F2P.) I think reviewers had set expectations for Anthem and was also measuring against the Bioware bar set by prior games. Given the structure of the game, I'm not surprised the story telling and character development isn't at the level of Mass Effect. It was always neat to hear companion conversations during missions in ME.

I think it's unfortunate about the poor reviews because now there's probably no way the game will hit Bioware's announced target of 6 million copies sold, and then that itself would add to the bad news...

Just had a 4gb update on Anthem.

I don't understand a lot of the story, but I know what's happening in the game. It's shit for dropping you in the middle and acting like you know what anything is. I still don't know what "the Anthem", cyphers, or any of that establishing stuff mean. It's lazy storytelling and a definite minus. But I don't care since I'm hoping it'll make sense and I know what I'm doing in the moment.

I think I'm almost done with Crackdown 3. It's a lot of fun for achievements because there are a lot and most of them are not too difficult (minus the orbs). Which is my primary gripe, in that there are so many collectibles or things that appear on maps (intel, drink kiosks, DNA, etc) and the tracking system for each one is not consistent.

The remaining DNA orbs in each territory are listed, the others aren't.

Intel locations remain on the map once found, the drink kiosks don't. Neither give you any hint where the missing ones are.

And finally, the orbs. The fact you don't get some kind of tracking system, completion map, or improved ability to locate them (like the spider-sense in Spider-Man) means it's just a blind hunt with a proximity audio clue when you're very close. Chasing orbs is fun in the beginning, but the absence of any additional abilities to finsh finding them is my biggest "hey fuckface its 2019 this is not acceptable" gripe with a game I've otherwise had a lot of fun with. We tolerated it in the original Crackdown and in InFamous because we didn't know any better. Not anymore.

I'm running into the same thing. I had to use a guide for the rooftop races to find the one I was missing. Even when the video showed where it was and I found it, it still didn't show on the map. Also had to do that with the audio towers I was missing #20 that was on the edge of the map on the end of the sea wall. They could have done such a better job on mapping and tracking.

I'm sure not everyone looks at it like this, but this was how I was looking at the game.

Bioware has generally made great games that I have immensely enjoyed since starting with Knights of the Old Republic, with their only major missteps for me being the entirety of Dragon Age 2 and the ending of Mass Effect 3. I don't exactly hold Andromeda against them but it did happen so it's on the mind. While I was disappointed that they were moving away from the story-telling that was really their mark on the industry and why I most liked them, I was willing to at least keep an open mind and give the game a shot, hoping they'd at least make a game that I considered quality. The only real point of comparison I had in my mind was the multiplayer modes of Mass Effect 3, Andromeda, and Inquisition. While I know some people really love the Mass Effect MP, and I do think the gameplay is fun, I've always felt those modes were pretty shallow and mostly a way to try and get people to buy lootboxes thanks to the terrible unlock system, though it overall isn't that big of a deal since they were essentially side content.

With Anthem, they put out a substantial demo with a couple hours of content, and while I thought the gameplay felt fine, nothing really stood out to me and there were a few things that set off warning bells. I know I keep harping on loading times but as a player with hundreds if not thousands of hours into the looter shooter genre, this was the first thing that stuck out to me as bad. It completely breaks immersion constantly and you can't engage with the game in any way while it's happening. I could write several more paragraphs about seemingly small stuff that really adds up, but the one other big thing that kept me from buying the game. We can try and give them the benefit of the doubt all day, but when there are statements like the below article, they are just setting people up for disappointment with what they delivered. Even if the story was good, the way they deliver is absolutely terrible. The hub as it is was not a good idea, and the dead first-person dialouge really is a blow to the story-telling skills they've honed over the years. Combine that with the standard looter shooter technique of delivering a lot of story over a radio while you are actively in combat or on alert most of the time and it's a recipe for a lack of impact.

https://kotaku.com/bioware-wants-you-to-know-that-story-is-a-priority-for-1830921216

Finally, even if people are completely fair and try to not consider Bioware's previous work when looking at Anthem, I think it would be foolish to not compare it to it's contemporaries. This sub-genre more or less started with Borderlands 1, and since then we've had Borderlands 2, The Division, Warframe, and probably most importantly for comparison Destiny 1 and 2. There have been a LOT of examples, both good and bad in the past 7 or so years since BL2 really kicked off where we are now. To me, it feels like Bioware learned almost nothing from any of them, as to what people like in this genre, and what potential pitfalls there were.

I think the overall situation feels similar to Visceral. I love Dead Space 1 and 2, and regardless of why they made a BAD sequel with Dead Space 3. When they were forced to make Battlefield Hardline it was something so out of their wheel house that their previous quality could not entirely apply, so I didn't play it until a free weekend or something much later, and I felt justified in doing so when seeing just how mediocre the game ended up being.

Also, when there is a blunder like this, it's can be fun to dump on something and get some enjoyment out of a game that otherwise isn't doing it for you. For the people that are enjoying the game, more power to them, no disrespect.

I feel content to wait to play Anthem. Even with a 10 hour EA Access trial I hesitate to use that time until they address the issues everyone is talking about.

It seems like it takes at least 4 to 6 months to make all the changes that people are asking for so I'm happy to wait until it's a better experience.

Although if Fallout 76 is any indication the timeline to repair a damaged reputation could take much longer.

Yikes. Those load times are especially bad for a game installed to a hard drive. At least Sonic was off a disc only on 360.

Yep. Most of the optional stuff appears naturally while you traverse the map, and it creates the false impression that the radius for detection is way bigger. Instead, the map is just really dense with objectives when starting off.

If they had some post / end-game detection system for completionists, I'd mind less. Instead the fun quickly transitions into a chore.

Oh well. It's still a perfectly good game, especially if you're looking for some mindless arcade action you can pick up and put down easily.

Yeah the map for Crackdown 3 is all over the place. My main gripe with it is the way things disappear and reappear when you zoom in and zoom out. Some of those things in the middle of the city you have to be very precise where exactly your zoomed in/out to have what you want appear. They do at the very least let you know how many orbs are left in a "section" so that's something. Were also already through the first round of laughably bad Youtube vids showing orb locations on to some pretty polished ones. I'm at 90% on both regular and hidden hope to finish it up this week.

Finished up Crackdown 3 story last night. Still have to clean up some last achievements. It was okay, nothing groundbreaking. Definitely glad I have Gamepass.

I've got $10 in credit that expires Monday, any suggestions?

Sort of eyeing Thimbleweed Park or might just mindlessly dump it for Apex Legends coins.

Completely random but I was just looking through the store and wanted to check the price on Midnight Club LA and it says it's not available in my region (US) and Xbox.com doesn't seem to work either.

Is this a delisting?

Thimbleweed Park is a pretty cool sort of Twin Peaks-ian point-and-click game. That said I haven’t finished it, lol.

Also, if you have a PC, it’s free on the Epic Store right now.

Picked it up on the Epic Store, this will be my first game using their storefront/launcher.

I'm about to break and buy an SSD. I'm not going to go all in and swap with the internal, but it's still slightly baking that I'm actively considering it.

Not with an SSD. Stock 5400 is far outclassed when it's inside, but doing it external is still an improvement.I
I was reading up on it, I guess the OG Xbox one is a sata 2 connector and when they brought out the S it was a sata 3 so might be what I'm thinking of. I just have a sata to USB 3.0 enclosure on my Intel 512gb 545s series and the results are pretty amazing.

Just a Fortnite reminder. All the Overtime Challenges are available now. Complete 13 out of 15 to get the season 8 Battle Pass for free. I helped a couple people do it, and we stormed through them in about 90 minutes. You should be able to find guides, maps, or videos to find the easiest ways to do things. This is also the last day for double XP, but you have 3 days left to get these challenges done.

The first teaser for the new season dropped earlier, looks to have a pirate theme. In the last week or two there have been several tremors and cracks have been appearing across the island, so now people are speculating that this will lead to flooding of the map and the addition of boats to replace planes.

If anyone wants help I should be on later tonight. If you're not playing on Xbox for some reason my Epic name is the same as my XBL and CAG name. Just send a message if I'm on Apex, I've literally completed everything there is to do in Fortnite right now except hit level 100 for this season, which isn't happening.

Nice work! I just saw the movie Friday and liked it so much I started reading the manga this weekend. The theatre was surprisingly empty, hope they can still make a sequel even if it didn’t do well in the box office. I was surprised my wife loved it too, and she usually can’t stand anime/manga.

Thanks for all the info about midnight club. It's strange that it's still in the backwards compatible store on the Xbox One though.

Shoulda woulda coulda bought it when I had the chance

Is Red Dead Redemption 2 worth it for $32 for someone whom hasn't even played GTAV yet and has a massive backlog and probably won't get around to it until Summer of this year the earliest?

I've been following the Alita threads on /tv/ and someone was posting updates from the Chinese box-office as well trying to get a general consensus from their Twitter. It sounded like it was doing really well there, and I think it's being well received in Japan too, so Asia might save us. I saw a new interview with James Cameron that says they fully intend to make at least one more as long as they get the funding. The way he said it made me think the overall reception will determine if they condense it into one sequel or two, rather than if they'd be making one at all. I was saying there it likely all depends on how much momentum it can get until Captain Marvel comes out next month.

I would guess it probably won't go lower than that by summer. It's hard to say how "worth it" a discount now will be in the long run if you 100% don't plan on playing it for a few months, unless it's something rare like a Limited Run release.

Made over $60 million in China this past weekend, problem is that Hollywood studios get only 25% back from overseas box office there so I think the movie has to get somewhere in the ballpark of over $500 million worldwide to be considered profitable and thus get a sequel.

And I think I may just wait it out on RDR. Thanks.

If it doesn't make it, I think it still could renew interest in the series and lead to a new anime that covers the whole story or something. I wouldn't quite put it one to one since it was written as a complete story, but Blade Runner 2049 had this basic outcome with a new prequel story being made now. I read an interview with the author of the manga and he said he wants to do a complete anime adaptation, but the rights from the movie deal have been keeping it from happening.

The Walking Dead or the Oscars tonight?

These items have a countdown in their marketplace pages.  The most likely reason is a discount, but it could also be GwG, Game Pass, delisting or even nothing (not uncommon for MS published titles on Game Pass).  Just have to wait for the timer to run out.  Day counters do not include hours or minutes.  Countdowns with less than 1 day left.  New items since last countdown post. (Resets Monday nights.)

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a 65" Sony X900F. I can't wait to try some 4K HDR gaming on this puppy when it arrives! I might have to pick up AC Origins when it goes on sale tomorrow. Is the Gold/SP worth it?

I got Far Cry New Dawn as a birthday gift. I've only finished like 30% of FC5. Not sure if I should play it immediately or finish 5 first. I know it takes place after 5 but don't know if it spoils anything in 5 since it seems like a "what if" situation.

Yes. Finish 5 first. Big ending spoilers.

No "what if." It's a direct sequel, so I'd recommend finishing 5 first.

As others said, finish 5 first.

My suggestion is co op w someone. Much more fun with a partner. And I usually like to solo games.

Yes, the story DLC extends the story nicely. The game looks amazing in 4k hdr.

Seconded. Just plowing through the DLC now. Hidden ones was short but sweet, and Curse of the Pharaohs has been a ton of fun and has some amazing visuals (not done yet but definitely longer). Some of the areas you visit are some of the coolest looking areas in the game.
