Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

Has anyone ever used a sick/vacay day to stay home from work just to play a game? If so what game was it?
Took 2 days for Halo: Reach, took at least a day or two for Destiny 1, and took a long weekend when Rise of Iron and D2 came out (both Friday releases). Took them as personal time though. Calling off isn’t too well appreciated in retail so I try to get the request in ahead of time.

I've been burned by down servers and late amazon deliveries too many times to stay home, that said I'd be staying home for Sekiro but not necessary with the Thursday night release.
This.
I’ve had days off that I planned on playing all day, game gets there at 7pm... I would have been home around 6 normally.

Digital is great for stuff like that but again patches and day 1 issues really make it not worth it.

I had zero issues with division 2 at 10pm Monday night through Wednesday night. Thursday I get home to a small patch... and drones didnt work. Friday I got disconnected multiple times after I got home.
Drones are fixed and no disconnects, but some skins will not apply to some weapons, extended mag disappears on 1 weapon.. works just doesn’t show, and random lag spikes. 3 manned a mission Tuesday... I swear when the lag hit it was like 10 full seconds before anything registered and then the game slowed to a crawl for 30 more seconds. Then all was fine.

I’ll just work, get the OT normally, and then play at night. Not worth a sick day.

Someone else mentioned Zelda II. I really wish that game would get the full remake treatment, because there is a really good game hiding under the shitty world map and save system. A 2D combat system with experience and stuff like that could be so good if they redid it. I'd rather see this than Link's Awakening, since LA is still perfectly playable today and remains my favorite Zelda.
Back in the day, I thought it was interesting how Zelda, Castlevania and Mario all had major changes in their second iterations then pretty much went back to the original gameplay style for their third outing. (This was before I heard of the Lost Levels.)

Also thought it was funny how, over the years, people would complain about Zelda II being so different from the rest of the series. In hindsight, yes, but at the time it didn't stand out quite so much because there was only 1 other game to compare it to.

Has anyone ever used a sick/vacay day to stay home from work just to play a game? If so what game was it?
Release day for Gears, Forza Horizon and Borderlands games. Nintendo had switched to releasing their major franchises on Sundays for a while, don't remember if they still do since I didn't have a Switch until recently, but a number of their franchises would prompt a vacation day on release.

I'm usually at my vacation accrual limit and need to take a day here and there, which is usually spent gaming. Like next Friday.

Question for all you movie nerds:

All these code sellers say "Vudu or iTunes via Movies Anywhere."

Does this mean that MA titles redeem to your iTunes account, or simply show up in it? I assume it's the latter.... in which case that seems redundant as hell, because that means any MA platform, not just iTunes, and is kind of misleading.

I usually buy iTunes codes because I trust Apple the most to maintain their digital storefront, and it drives me insane when I search for iTunes codes specifically and I get hits for "via Movies Anywhere."

If it’s MA that usually means it won’t have an iTunes redeem. It will port to iTunes from MA. Those that joined MA stopped doing iTunes (think some of it also had to do with iTunes doing the free 4K upgrades).

Non-MA studios like Lionsgate and Paramount still do have iTunes redeems for most of their movies. And there are older movies from MA studios that redeem on iTunes but not newer ones (except Disney, which doesn’t allow for 4K on iTunes).

Anyone see a deal for xbox currency for 10% off or more anywhere? I see newegg has $100 for $89 but i really only need like $50 worth.

And yes Ive asked in the trade forums.
If you have Bitmo app you can get a Gamestop gift card with the code RALLY12 and use the Gamestop gift card to buy currency at the store or on their website.

I see you sneaking around, someone's boss. I'll play your game.
I've taken a day off of work to play the following (at launch):
New WoW expansions from Burning Crusade to Mists of Pandaria (6 years clean!)
Darksiders II
Breath of the Wild
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance through Awakening

While not a sick/vacay day from work, I was "sick" the first few days of Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast.
I didn’t take a day off, but I just had returned home from surgery from the hospital a few days before to get Burning Crusade at a midnight release. I could hardly move I was in so much pain, my then-wife has to drive me there and back.

Pretty sure this was covered a few weeks back but with the expiring ubisoft points, do they use the soon to expire points from your balance first when getting something or not?

Didn’t that suck frame rate wise on Blighttown on PC as well?
The whole thing was a mess.

  • Locked at 30 FPS
  • Locked at 720p
  • No high resolution textures
  • Terrible mouse and keyboard support
They sort of patched it later but it was only in a good state thanks to a single modder that was able to clean up the many issues pretty fast his DSfix mod. They never really brought it up to snuff until the next gen HD port we have now. PC players got that for free, but many people seem to prefer the original with final DSfix installed.

I see. Thanks. I still find the phrasing redundant/misleadig, since it could equally say "Fandango Now / Microsoft Movies and TV / Vudu via Movies Anywhere" and I get those hits when specifically looking for iTunes codes. Oh well, I appreciate the info.

Yeah, it is kind of stupid and redundant. Most people buying codes are smart enough to know iTunes is part of MA.

I haven't been keeping up but Gearbox has been posting more teasers. On top of the pixelated Borderlands 2 screen we now have these.

Someone on Reddit is theorizing that this means a new Poker Night at the Inventory, but I think that's kind of a stretch. While they did allow Clap-Trap to be in Poker Night 2, it was entirely done by Telltale. I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing that the rights could be sold for since it involved many different companies characters. The fact that they all say “Time to tease another game for PAX!” could mean they're tied together, but not necessarily.

Gearbox is working with Penn & Teller on a game of some sort, which accounts for the "&" tweet as it looks like their logo.

Both Bulletstorm and Borderlands 2 are not on Switch, so those could be as simple as that.

The card tweet is the only one that does seem like it could point to a poker game with nothing else coming to mind. Maybe they did figure out the rights, but if so I'd expect a port of 2 over a new game. Admittedly a new game with Borderlands characters, Duke Nukem, Penn (or maybe the silent Teller would be funnier), and straight-man Ishi could be entertaining, though they don't actually own Bulletstorm and it's characters aren't exactly well known or even that well liked.

If one of the announced games isn't Borderlands 3 people are going to be pissed.

I generally just get the Vudu code, but I have a fundamental dislike of that phrasing. It's the latter. Movies Anywhere, in my experience, doesn't actually sell movies. Even if I pull up the app right now and check what's available, it will direct me to one of their linked retailers to actually buy it. So they're selling you a Vudu code and saying you can access it on iTunes (which you can), but it's not redeemed TO iTunes.

Handsome Collection on the Switch makes perfect sense if they are also putting BL3 on the Switch. If they can get BL2 running on the Vita, Switch will be no problem, and at this point those games are just all profit.

Bulletstorm on the Switch would be cool, too, but I really hope that also leads to Bulletstorm 2 which seemed completely doomed 10 years ago, despite the cliffhanger story ending.

If there’s one available, I always get the iTunes code. Love me them free 4K upgrades. :)
Anything is possible, but the Apple ecosystem also makes me feel more confident that they won't take down their storefront in 10 years, whereas Fandango or Vudu may decide it's too much of a hassle, much like the UV Locker shutting down. Same reason I'm relatively comfortable buying digital games from Microsoft, but am wary of Nintendo keeping their servers running.

Re: taking days off
I took a whole week off for Fallout 4.
The day it was supposed to arrive, I had a recruiter call me for an interview.
I really wanted to play the game but took the interview.
Long story short--the whole week was one long interview process, but, the job turned out to be a good move.
Still havent played FO4 for more than a few hours.

Of course Borderlands 2 is coming to Switch. Gearbox can't resist putting that thing anywhere and everywhere. I'm surprised it hasn't been on mobile yet. Don't get me wrong, I love the game. But they have beat that horse to death. They have to know that any Borderlands 2 announcement at this point can only be a sideshow. Borderlands 3 is the only meaningful announcement that can have build up like this.

However, i'm going to laugh hysterically (and also be very sad) if this turns out to be a special version of Borderlands 2 where you can play as Duke Nukem. It seems plausible...

Definitely don’t have confidence that FandangoNow will stay around. They’re by far the worse of the services. Poor streaming and their customer service is awful.

Vudu has a pretty good customer base so don’t see them folding in the towel anytime soon.

But agree Apple has the best infrastructure and money to stay in for the long haul

If I take days off there’s a whole family waiting there for me to take care of them so I have not had any gaming holidays. I’m a gaming Batman, come out at night and protect the worlds of various games when everyone else is sleeping.

  • Tira was a "season pass bonus". Essentially she appears to have been developed along with the base game then set aside to make the season pass appealing at launch.
  • 2B was next. She's very faithful to her game overall. She came with a stage, and a few Nier and Nier Automata themed customization items
  • Third was Character Creation Pack 1, which add about 60 parts, along with music from Soul Blade and Soul Calibur 1.
  • Coming March 26th is Amy. She is Raphael's protegee and also uses a rapier, but her actual style is pretty different. She's coming with the parts that make up her Soul Calibur VI and IV outfits, and two hair styles. She does not include a stage does get a story branch in Soul Chronicles.
  • After that we're sceduled for another creation part pack. No official details yet but it will be around 50ish parts and is pretty likely to add more old music.
  • Finally there is character 3 (because they don't count Tira). Nothing has been said but all evidence from data-mining point to returning character Cassandra. She's basically a more aggressive version of her sister Sophitia. She's highly requested so whatever.
Data-mining has also found evidence strongly indicated a Season Pass 2 is planned. 6 characters with code names have been found in the file structure that weren't there at launch. People are speculating that all are returning characters but I don't necessarily think that's locked in based on the names we've seen. I think Lizardman/Aeon, Setsuka, and maybe Rock are the only ones that seem definite based on the codes. Other than that they appear to be planned to be released two at a time like Tekken 7's second season.

Based on the time table we're looking at I think this will probably be announced at EVO 2019 in August. E3 is a possibility but I'm not sure it's big enough news to appear at Microsoft's conference, which is the only show that would really make sense. They could announce it there and simply reveal some characters at EVO though.</p>
Wow, this is a wealth of information, thanks. Still unsure if I want to dive into SC6 now or wait for a cheaper price. I used to be super into the series but lost track of it with 5.

Only game I can remember in recent history taking the day off for was Gears 4.  Probably Judgement before that maybe.  If Borderlands 3 ever comes out I could see taking a day off for that.

Otherwise I can typically wait a few days.

I've been having a lot of fun with it since launch. 2B was my most wanted guest character too. I would definitely say it's better than 5, content wise it's somewhere around SC 3 or 4. It's hard to say how the price will go over time. It's not as popular as the older Tekken and there is a lot of competition in the genre so I could see it dropping more, but Bamco is hard to gauge as they've handled pricing pretty different between their two other big fighters Tekken and Dragonball FighterZ.

Personally I just like fighting games a lot on Soul Calibur is my favorite series so I was dying for a new game after the rushed out game we got 5 years earlier with SCV. I really like character creation in general and none of the other fighters come anywhere close to Soul Calibur.

If you're just looking to scratch a fighting game itch maybe check out the free version of Dead or Alive 6, I've been having a lot of fun with it this week. Though the big three 3D fighters all play pretty different from each other.

Here’s a new one:
I can't really parse this one. Gearbox does't exactly have a deep well of owned IP or published games. Maybe something new from the publishing side.

I haven't taken a day off for a game. I even went to the midnight launch of Halo 3, played through 3/4 of the campaign before I had to adult, I dropped my younger brother's copy off who was still in HS and did not get to play until after he got home, then I worked my 2-10pm shift before hopping online to join my brother and his friends in multiplayer. I didn't sleep much back then.

I did take a week vacation for the launch of the 360. My aunt had a friend in receiving at Costco that was going to hold one for me when it came in, which wasn't arriving until launch day. I stayed up all night in anticipation. Around 5:30 that morning my aunt calls to tell me that the shipment they were expecting at our local Costco had been diverted to the next nearest location, so they got double the inventory and ours got jack shit. I didn't get my console until the next shipment two weeks later. I was.......unhappy.

I am going to post the same thing in the other 2 threads that I have here.

EVERYBODY IS HAVING SO MANY THINGS ON SALE!!!!

AND I DON'T GET PAID AGAIN UNTIL NEXT FRIDAY!!!!!
AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!   :whee:

I’m probably the only one here who took at day off for Civ IV on the PC back in the day. Only game I’ve ever done that for.

I took many days off back in the day to play games Day One. Notably Mass Effect 1 & 2, Rock Band 3, all the Gears games(same as Bloomy) and Halo 3. I remember skipping college classes to play Halo: Combat Evolved back in 02. Halo 2 was the last game I waited in line for, to get at midnight.
Who else other then myself still have Borderlands in the backlog?
Borderlands 1 and 2 + all the dlc. Played 10 mins of the first and unlocked the goomba achievement. Been in the backlog ever since.

Thanks to whoever said Just Cause 1 on 360 was 99 cents. Too cheap to pass up. Being backwards compatible makes it even more a sell. Falls into the sweet spot that any og Xbox game hits when its only a few dollars. Perfect impulse buy for the digital collection/backlog

That's a great story:

* you having lots of time to go through the interview process because you already had scheduled time off

* the happy ending of landing a job you like more in retrospect.

* the humor in knowing Fallout 4 is not really a role-playing game and is somewhat of a disappointment with series fans anyway. Really, not much lost in your decision.

PSA for anyone that purchased the Gamestop 360 last fall and got the $70 Visa gift card:

Per the back of the card. The card incurs a $3 monthly fee which is waived for the first 6 months.

I had planned to hold on to it, but see now that would be a bad idea.

Received a message on the Xbox saying I earned Microsoft Rewards points via Xbox Game Pass quests. Select (launch app) to redeem your points and find this months quests.
I click through and I get no points, and there are no Game Pass quests listed. Anybody know what is going on?
