Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Just watched into the spiderverse. It was really good. I love Stan Lee cameos and makes me sad he won't be in anymore but one more.

That bring said I think Deadpool should take over the cameo role. It could be something as stupid as the main character gets hit and fly's though a wall and Deadpool is doing his hands to his face shocked look.

OT but Love Death + Robots has some pretty fucked up stuff on it. I am still watching but a few of these are making me a wee bit uncomfortable.

Definitely fucked up but I like it. :)

Surprising that Netflix allowed them to go as far as they did in some of those episodes.

Anyone with a TCL also have an Apple TV 4K? I’ve been having Dolby Vision issues with the ATV since the firmware update. Getting occasional green screens and other glitches. Tried unplugging the HDMI, etc. Never had any issues prior to the update yesterday.
Question; Are you getting a green screen, white noise, or color saturation issues as you switch between standard content and 4k/HDR content? My TCL 6 Series does this randomly with my Xbox as I start and quit HDR games (Maybe once out of every 15 times). When any of the glitches happen I can just back out to the TCL home screen, move off the input in the menu, then move back and select it and everything is fixed.

It may be the small price we pay for an inexpensive but generally awesome 4k TV

I was getting a green screen and sometimes would go to a smaller box of the picture with artifacts.

But strangely, I was messing around with the various formats supported by the Apple TV and suddenly it started working again with no issues.

Think I determined it wasn’t the TCL but likely something to do with a tvOS update on the ATV that just happened to hit the same day as the TCL update.

Drove me nuts as I switched HDMI cables between the ATV and the receiver then the receiver to the TCL. Plugged the ATV directly to the TCL. Nothing fixed it.

Just started working after I changed formats a whole bunch of times. Hope it stays fixed!

Playing Mortal Kombat XL and it's amazing how dated the fatalities feel after watching the ones for MK11.
I think the resolution from that to 11 is a bit more jarring, of course playing Injustice 2 you could see what the next one was going to look like.

Does anyone know if the Mash Up packs in Minecraft ever go on sale? It's all through the in game store now so I don't think they're tracked. I'm considering getting the Fallout pack, though it is a bummer there is no New Vegas stuff. When I searched it there is some off-brand skin pack called Nuclear Fallout HD that very blatantly has a few NCR Ranger skins in it though, along with a few not-quite vault suits. It'd have been nice if they could have included some of the licensed music along with a radio station or something but it probably wouldn't have been feasible.

Anyone on the fence over FF7 wondering about the port, I spent a little over an hour with it last night, and I'm actually really happy with it. Some thoughts:

-there is clearly a mild smoothing effect for the backgrounds to make them look less jarring due to the low res they were originally rendered for, playing on my 43" TCL I actually think it looks pretty great (for a PS1 game). The art direction and unique camera angles add a very cinematic feel that many first-gen 3D games are lacking, and this aspect has aged very well. It looks much nicer than trying to play the game on my PS3 on the same television, which is rendering at 480p and then upscaling.

-the character and enemy battle models look cleaned up and very nice being rendered at 1080p. Backgrounds in battle have some ugly jaggies but they aren't the visual focus, so it doesn't really bother me.

-the music is the original MIDI soundtrack, which is still charming as ever, but it does have a compressed audio sound to it that is noticeable in 2019 on a decent sound system. After 10 minutes you don't care any more, but this is probably my biggest complaint - the music could sound so much better (and has had orchestral OSTs, piano renditions, etc, so it wouldn't require TOO much effort). The music glitch from every other version is present, where overworld music resets after battle. The original PS1 game resumed the music where it left off, so this glitch means you won't hear some of the more epic portions of the overworld theme, etc. Not a dealbreaker, but very unfortunate.

-for purists, the ports on PS4, Switch, and Xbox are based on the Steam port, which in turn is based on the late 90s port handled by Eidos. Apparently the final source code wasn't available to Eidos at the time, and that's where things like the audio glitch are believed to have originated. If you want the absolute original experience, the PS1 release on PSN (on a PS3/Vita/PSP) is going to be the way to go, but honestly, the visual upgrade and speed-up function make me prefer the Xbox version (as an adult with a job and not a ton of time to devote to JRPGS).

Even than there just seems to be more personality and originality in MK11. Though still come a long, long ways from the olden days of a single opponent exploding into five rib cages.

Nah. It has Conan Exiles, that automatically drops the average to 0.
But then you add the bouncing dong and boob sliders and you get it back to on par with GWG.

The Explorer, Creator, and Starter bundles are $1-2 on cdkeys. I think the Skyrim pack was in one of those, and fairly sure Fallout wasn't. *edit* The descriptions don't mention Skyrim so I guess my bro already had that one. I had just noticed it when I was checking that they showed up.

There were some that I picked up free for xmas, so I would guess they do have sales. You'd have to check the in-game store or follow them on twitter or something I guess.

OT but Love Death + Robots has some pretty fucked up stuff on it. I am still watching but a few of these are making me a wee bit uncomfortable.
I really enjoyed the show overall but yeah there are things that just seemed gratuitous. The furry episode and the dump one come to mind. The show made me wish for a shorter version of black mirror to come out. I think 5-20 minute episodes of a black mirror type show would be great. The sci-fi oriented episodes of Love Death + Robots were easily my favorites.

Wow, PS+ freebies are trash this month. I'll take mediocre over junk.
I was really hoping they would get better since they dropped down to just 2 games.
I guess when it was like 6 games they were casting a much wider net. I usually found at least one thing I wanted to try or didn't already have.

Especially since many of the PS3 and Vita games were indie titles with cross-buy. They promoted that so aggressively and now have pretty much abandoned it.

Not a fan of Rick and Morty, but a game that's made by them and actually looks funny, of course, is not being released on Xbox. Lol.

So this will we be getting an update to the original Handsome Collection for X1X? Or are we going to be forced to get the new one?
I suspect the Handsome Collection is just a free update, but I don't know how they are going to handle Borderlands 1.

It is a free update. I was confused. Thought they were releasing a new Handsome collection with the original Borderlands as well.

You were confused? It literally said at the end of the video that it was a free update coming out next week.

Couldn't be more disappointed that no Borderlands was announced for Switch but I'll settle for Bulletstorm. I'm still stupid excited for BL3. I just want a release date....THIS YEAR.

I’m not watching the stream!!! Just read the post I quoted and searched for info. Chill out.

I only have Handsome Collection on PS4, now I definitely need an X1 sale on it.  I'm worried that the next sale will have an "enhanced" tax on it though; the last few sales were $15 but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back up to $20.

Can't get it to work, shift site says it's not valid
Worked for me. I'd bet the site is getting slammed. I'm pretty sure i've seen this before and they've issued a replacement code by tweet or they reset something on the backend. Of course a replacement code might mean another 100 keys for some, I suppose.

Most likely site is being Jack hammered. My stupid excitement did not take that into account

I got a timeout when trying to redeem, but after refreshing when I look at the list of past redeemed codes there's an entry for the 100.

I didn't know you could finally redeem Shift codes through a website, thank god.

I caught most of the stream and it's insane how badly they botched doing a live show. It was fine until they got to the Borderlands section. A ten minute magic trick followed by every trailer running at 5 FPS? Great. At least the game looks good.

If anyone is still playing Borderlands 2 there was a hidden SHIFT Code in the teaser which will give you a skin for Salvador and 5 Golden Keys

C35TB-WS6ST-TXBRK-TTTJT-JJH6H

Can be redeemed ingame or on the shift website:

https://shift.gearboxsoftware.com/

They put a SHIFT code up for 100 golden keys on the Youtube stream also

C3W33-RZ6ZJ-TFJ6C-TTJ33-RFHX5
What are these keys good for in game? Can I redeem these even if I haven't played borderlands yet? Haven't started any of these games but the announcements have me hyped!

Edit: Answer for others interested is yes, you can redeem these to a SHIFT account linked to an Xbox Live account even without having played the games yet. Just have to create an account on SHIFT.

With the enhancements I'd like to pick up a digital copy for Xbox as well. I'm guessing $15 won't be seen again for a while. It's $19.79 on PS Store right now.

So video game continuity question that's been bugging me for years, but since we're on the 11th Mortal Kombat game according to the numbering of the newest one coming out, does that make Mortal Kombat vs. DC the official 8th game in the timeline that's not a spin off or upgraded version? Eventhough it's never mentioned again minus the MK9 Shang Tsung fatality.

This goes to eleven.

Here's the deal: ORIGINALLY, what we now refer to as "MK9" was simply "Mortal Kombat" or "MK2011". Ed Boon and many at NRS flat-out refused to call the reboot MK9. That's because MK9 was meant to come out after Armageddon - as MK8 - but that's also when Midway stroke a deal with Warner for MK vs DC (the game comes out in 2008, Midway goes bankrupt in 2009, WB acquires the iP and renames Midway Chicago as Netherrealm Studios in 2010). WB probably was interesting in doing something with DC characters in a fighting game and MK was the perfect fit (all they had to do was tone down the violence and gore).

I've always seen MK vs DC as an experiment that lead to Injustice becoming a thing since MK9 was always meant to happen at some point. It also now allows NRS to work on another fighting game besides MK.

My guess is they simply decided not to complicate themselves by coming up with a different title in order to maintain MK vs DC as a spin-off and "MKX" rolls off the tongue rather easily.
