Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Since the spring sale is ending, I’m wondering if there is any game $10 or cheaper that’s worth getting. Id appreciate any recommendations.
Spring sale runs until April 22, so you have some more time. My number one recommendation is Sleeping Dogs for $4.50. I typically play through games once and move on, but I have played Sleeping Dogs to 100% three times - it is my favorite open world game. Lots of variety, great story, and gameplay is similar to GTA, but focuses on hand to hand combat. You're an undercover cop in Hong Kong, it has a Karaoke minigame where you sing poorly, there are multiple Bruce Lee references (including an Enter the Dragon knockoff DLC) and you can melee people with fish.

Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive is $10 and is hands down the best metroidvania platformer on xbox.

If you like Twin Peaks, Virginia is a super weird linear adventure game for $4.00. Takes about 3-4 hours to run through, and as far as I remember, there is no dialogue. It is artsy and strange, not for everyone, but a unique experience.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is $10 and is a fantastic single player FPS. Compelling story and solid gunplay make shootin' Nazis a blast.

If you're looking for maximum bang for your buck you can get Dragon Age: Inquisition GOTY for $10. It has 60-100 hours of gameplay or more depending on your playstyle. Long, epic RPG with several great twists and turns. But, some of the areas are much larger than they need to be and the combat can be a slog sometimes. For $5 more, you can get the Bioware bundle which has this and Mass Effect Andromeda which is 70-ish hours of space RPG and a fun multiplayer.

Hope that helps.

If I buy the $1 Gold deal, can I still add the 12 month code from Rewards without issue?
As long as you do the $1 one first it should be fine, just remember to shut off auto renew.

How long to get the apex 1000 coins? I bought 3 months of gold from the dash deal for $12.99 and it came with 1000 coins...small print said by 6/10/19 lol

I don’t plan to use the coins now, gonna wait for season 2
I just bought it today too, it says it will send a code as an Xbox message to you, so watch your Xbox messages, I’ll post when I get mine.

you know.... I don't get why everyone complains about Anthem bugs, I'm playing Division 2....I like it but it's the worst game I've played with glitches in a long time. Keep opening chests, oh wait, glitch, it doesn't open. Invisible enemies killing me. Oooo a bounty popped up on a boss, climb over this knee high rubble, 'you killed yourself' bounty failed.... I mean, what the fuck !

One day I'm enjoying it for hours, the next all this bullshit in a span of 10 minutes.

Anthem hasn't caused me this much grief in all its playtime combined. No other game. Did they break it with an update?
As others have stated, Day 1 of the early access... and I'll tell you the only thing I have encountered is the open the chest and get nothing issue. And 99% of the time it's a restock chest. Goes through the animation.. and nothing shows up. but.. If I then manually reload the weapon.. all of a sudden I have max ammo. Think it's an animation glitch, but you do get the items. (just doesn't notify you on screen) And yes I have opened an item chest and thought I got robbed, open inv.. and there is a new purple I know I have not looted since clearing my inv the last time.

Invis enemy? nah, you missed him. I have been killed by what I thought was an invisible enemy like you said, but as I'm cussing out the game... I see the crosshairs from the sniper shooting at me. ( i have hive/reviver so I go down but rez so I can get a 2nd chance)

Only time i have "killed myself" is with a hastily shot grenade from my grenade launcher... lets just say it happened a few times... lol.

I had them a few days ago. Couldn’t even deploy the ropes to start a mission. Was really annoying. Haven’t tried since to see if it is working again.

I understand that it’s a persistent online world but don’t know why simple things like that and doors not opening would be affected. Just weird to have those glitches.
I read your "issue" the other day and didn't comment cause I was on the road.

If you logged out in the middle of a mission, your progress i'm sure is completely lost. Go back out and you should be able to select the difficulty, that will reset the mission. (Or open your map and hold Y) if you are in the mission area it's reloaded the game and moved me outside.

Same thing it does with joining a party.

I did however come across a door that was "open" when it should be closed. I could shoot through it and kill the named bounty, grenades bounced back at me.. and they could not hit me. Easy kill.. not so easy to get the loot. I backtracked a long way around the map and came back, door was reset (closed now) but still couldn't open it. Ends up I figured out a way to get there from another underground tunnel. To pick up garbage loot..

I haven’t had much issues either til the past few times I played it seems like the enemies and textures were late to load in, I got killed a few times cause I couldn’t see the enemies.

Also came across a couple of glitched collectibles I googled and seemed other are having the same problem with those specific ones but I had no problem with any collectible in the first one.

Invis enemy? nah, you missed him.
Nope.
I get to areas. Enemies are talking. 'There he is!' The eye symbol sometimes floats in the air. Then bullets come flying at me from a ghost. Then you hear footsteps from the melee guys. And the next ghost beats the shit out of you. Then they all start randomly appearing around the scene.

And the killed yourself one. My guy hopped a barrier, got stuck, waved his arms like he jumped off a building and then died.

Just finished Valley. I forgot who recommended it? Gamergirlpocket maybe?
Game is fucking GREAT.
Anyone who likes fun should buy it
Rail running is one of the best sound to gameplay I’ve ever heard
9/10 would buy again

When I see Phoenix Wright on the xbox marketplace, I can't help, but feel bummed out over Microsoft's complete abandonment of the Kinect because those games would be amazing with it.

Only time i have "killed myself" is with a hastily shot grenade from my grenade launcher... lets just say it happened a few times... lol.

Went in tonight and it is now working. No reset required. There obviously was some kind of online glitch going on. Apparently others were having issues that night as well. Definitely was a bug but appear to be good to go now.

I'm 30 hours into Division 2 and the only real glitches I've seen is the restock box not animating, but my ammo was full and cycling quickly thru gear causes you arms to briefly stick in all directions like a horror movie.  No invisible enemies or dying from short falls.  Love this game.

FYI, in case folks haven't perused the main VG deals board since Sunday, I posted a deal for "buy $30 of Xbox GC's, get $6 in BonusCash" deal at your local RiteAid this week ...

https://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/369800-/

... and if you're in the Seattle, WA, USA area, there's an even better deal this week for snagging "unlimited Xbox GC's @ 80% cost" in CAG's "Northwest" regional board.

Technologically, games can use headsets to register voice on consoles. I don't know if any games this generation did it but you could do it on 360 with Binary Domain. This game even released well into the Kinect's lifespan.

No voice is likely due to Capcom wanting to keep the three new platforms the same, and they're pretty much ports of the mobile version of the game. Not to mention it was a gimmick 14 years ago just to spice up the DS port for the Japanese audience who already had the game for GBA. Just yell at your TV as you press the option, it does the exact same thing.

Boo turns to that! I want to cross examine and yell "OBJECTION!" and play the game via means of just yelling and pointing.

As long as you do the $1 one first it should be fine, just remember to shut off auto renew.

I just bought it today too, it says it will send a code as an Xbox message to you, so watch your Xbox messages, I’ll post when I get mine.
I bought mine on an Alt the first morning it was available, no code yet...in theory it will be a code and there is a 2000 point Rewards Quest on the Dashboard for buying at least 1000 coins in Apex Legends, again in theory you could activate that quest and it takes you to the shopping page and pick the reedem code option, and complete it. Hopefully it's still around by the time I get my code.

So Pinball FX3 just got an update that finally let me import my FX2 tables.
HIGHLY recommend importing while you can.
Keep in mind that if you want tables on both FX2 and FX3, buying them on 360 is still an option (for most of them) but they're not on sale and may never be again. I might just buy what I'm missing at full price and be done with it (total cost is $23).

If you don't care about FX2, there's a sale on a couple of table packs for FX3.

Edit: Just bought a table on 360 and can confirm it not only still imports to Xbone FX2 (you have to install it from the site though, use this link to find the table pages https://www.storeparser.com/en-US/xbox-one/search-results/Pinball-fx/game-2154/pinball-fx2/ ) but FX3 as well.

Finally! Not sure if I've missed some of the older sales but I've been waiting for Silent Hill HD Collection to go on sale for what feels like forever. I know the port brings up...issues...for a lot of folks but for me it's the only access I have to the games now and I've been wanting to revisit them for a while.
I'm actually with you. I still have the original Restless Dreams edition of SH2 for Xbox and I've been hoping they'd make it bc but seems like all we'll get is the broke ass port. I've been really in the mood to replay these recently and Would rather have a broke ass remaster to play on my xbone than no version of the games and $3.50 or whatever each isn't bad.

Also picked up mgs2+3 hd and peace walker he as that's my new favorite game series. Yes I was very late on the mgs train

Probably more so, not having played a billion hours twice already. I still haven't played the second. You might want to consider that it's part of EA access though. (I can't get myself to buy EA anymore)
I’m weird in that I don’t mind “renting” via GamePass (especially since MS Rewards covers it) but I don’t want EA Access anymore. I’d rather own the few EA games that I want to play (namely the ME series, Star Wars, Mirror’s Edge, TF2, and possibly DA:I now). It makes no sense at all, but that’s where I am lol

That was quick.

Although based on what I know about the game, I don't think the drop is reflective of the quality, so much as EA abandoning games to market if they aren't a 9/10, critically acclaimed million seller in the first two weeks.
Yeah, was about to mention this. I actually enjoyed what I have played of Anthem through the 10-hour demo. Just not at full price so $19.99 is good for me.

And now that I bought it, it’ll be on EA Access within a month. You’re welcome.

Your sacrifice is appreciated, awp.

Most of the games that are on Access I'd want I either already own (or have via GWG) or they drop below $10 often enough I'd also prefer to buy them outright. If you take away sports titles, the amount of games on offer in Access isn't all that significant. For folks who also want sports games, it's an easy sell, though.

And while a price drop like this might attract new players, I bet it does more to keep players away.
Yep. Lower prices sooner usually makes people think it's bad and not worth your time, not unlike budget releases at $30-40. If I had time for a persistent game like Anthem, $20 sounds like a good price, but I'm off in JRPG land right now with all the Square-Enix games that have been ported.

Vague details on the PS5 from Cerny himself. I want to say this is another instance of "borrowing" what the competition did, like Microsoft and Digital Foundry, except they had nothing real to show about the system other than a tech demo showing MUCH faster loading.

I'm not good enough with technical specs to really break down this, but some of it does line up with Digital Foundry's predictions as of late. I think these are the key takeaways that are useful:

"The CPU is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line and contains eight cores of the company’s new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. ... The GPU, a custom variant of Radeon’s Navi family. ... Sony won’t cop to exact details about the SSD—who makes it, whether it utilizes the new PCIe 4.0 standard—but Cerny claims that it has a raw bandwidth higher than any SSD available for PCs. ... the next-gen console will support 8K graphics" It won't be out in 2019 which was obvious already.

What I can speculate are a couple of details mentioned. First, they mention that file sizes are expected to go up to the point that higher capacity discs will be needed. A quick look shows UHD 4K discs can be up to 100 GB right now, so I assume that's what they're referring to. A 100 gig standard isn't thrilling but it was bound to go up and we've already been seeing that during this gen. This does throw up some red flag for the digital side and data caps, but the real concern I have here is the SSD. It sounds like it's a currently unreleased new standard for SSD connections and/or some proprietary magic. The next concern I have is the mention of raytracing. This technique is barely getting started on PC, only a few games really support it, and most of them run like shit when they do.

Basically, if this has all the bells and whistle mentioned, things like a 1 or 2 TB SSD, and GPU that does raytracing, I don't think another 599 US DOLLARS is impossible. But it does sound like it's 12 to 18 months away so maybe prices will come down enough on those things to mitigate the cost.

Skimming that PS5 article I don’t see any mention of a 4K Blu-ray player. That’s crazy if they still don’t have one in it. Maybe it’ll be there and it just wasn’t mentioned.

On another PS note, they dropped Dreams Early Access today. Might be the reason I finally dust off the PS4 for a bit.

You guys think they will announce a Ninja Gaiden 4 announcement soon? Possibly at E3?
I'm not sure how big Team Ninja is, but they just released Dead or Alive 6 and Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet. They are also working on Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order for Switch and Nioh 2 for PS4. I think it's unlikely to come soon.

Is DA:I enjoyable if you have never played any of the previous DAs?

And I’m glad I’m not the only one having issues with the Rewards app
I think you'd be fine. The war of the mages and templars is set up in DA2 as is Red Lyrium, some of the lore with the enemies comes from Awakening, and there are a few characters from Origins and 2 throughout the game, but I don't think much was actually needed. You play as a new character that was not involved with those events anyways.

Other knowing the context for old characters and a few mentioned events, I think the biggest benefit playing the old games had for me was knowing the nuances of the world, the races, and the politics; more so than the progression of the story through the games.

They said in the article it'll support physical media and mentions of 8K support as well so....

I'm just glad my $105 PSVR head set will have continued support.

I think it's implied by "necessitating larger downloads or higher-capacity physical media like discs. PlayStation’s next-generation console ticks all those boxes..."

Ah, at work and skimmed so missed that “physical media like discs” part. Thanks.

Still hoping our Xbox (whatever) one ups this and MS gets some traction with exclusives for next gen. GamePass and more consumer friendly policies are definitely helping in the PR department.

Well, this thing took a turn. It does have Sanwa parts (GOOD) and wi-fi for it's own leaderboard system, but the body looks like a joke. Yes, it looks nice but I would not want that awkward shape. It looks like a display piece more than anything else. Out October 25th from Koch Media (Weird, bad?). 16 mostly good games.

BC for PS4 games is great to hear, but there's still no good reason for PS1 and PS2 games not to work off of PSN. I don't care if they have to be bought digitally vs working with the disc, I have tons of old games I could play on my PS3 that don't work on a significantly more powerful system. Glad to know the cheap PS4 digital games I have will not be trapped on a single gen.

But, MS seems well poised for any software that runs on X1 (360, OG) to work on next gen, in which case they will continue to get my money.

Agreed. And it’s not like Sony doesn’t have the ability to add PS1-PS3 backwards compatibility.
