Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I’m having that issue with the fearless femme card. I’ve popped at least achievements for it and it’s not showing in the card.
I'm having the issue with the Femme Fatale one as well. Got achievements in two games on the list but it never popped for me either
I popped an achievement in Gears 5, which didn't check the quest despite being in the list. I started Bloddstained, got an early achievement and that completed that quest.

This popped for me playing The Walking Dead Season 1.

FYI - In the past, when I contacted MS support for something that didn't check off, they said to wait three days as it can be delayed before contacting them.

This ^^^ post reminded me about the update to Terraria a few days ago:

https://twitter.com/pipeworks/status/1191871725740253184

They added content from three different versions in one update, very nice.

Damn this took forever, almost been a full year since Switch got co op.
ConcernedApe decided to switch to a self-publish a few months ago, that must have fixed whatever the issue was. It seems like maybe the team ChuckleFish was using just couldn't handle it or something because it sounded like it was only supposed to take a couple month.

Great, live service features are exactly what was missing from Bioshock, no way this can blow up in their face.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/dtl8jy/bioshock_4_developer_job_listings_confirm/

The developer of "Bioshock 4" released new job lisitings that suggests it'll be a live service game with endgame content.

"To leverage this, we want to build a post-narrative set of systems, quests and player progression that gives our fanatic fangirls and fanboys more content to experience on an ongoing, live-services basis."

"You have shipped at least one triple-A title with end-game style content as a senior or principal designer. You have a sophisticated understanding of current trends in first-person action game design, the ability to articulate a vision for the evolution of same, and, know what it takes to execute an idea from concept to ship. Experience in live services content is a huge plus, here."

That just made me incredibly sad. The only progression system I want out of a Bioshock game is a great story. Keep the Destiny bull crap out.

Would you kindly not make this a live services game.

If they followed a GTAV or RDR2 model (robust, fully realized SP with optional online which is its own thing) I'd be fine with that. Otherwise, no thanks.
The issue here is that Bioshock's general gameplay design doesn't really mesh well with that specific kind of support. GTA and RDR are open worlds with a lot of ways to have all kinds of ways to play. Bioshock 1 and 2 borderline on Metroidvania with intricately designed locations that you explore as you get more abilities, and Infinite is linear Daughter Simulator that mechanically is a big step down from 1 and 2, aside from Elizabeth herself being a (at the time) fairly well designed companion.

I think the only stuff that you could realistically do with Bioshock and keep what people like about the old games is a Horde mode, or maybe a more traditional versus mode, that that didn't really set the world on fire back in Bioshock 2.

If you expand it to something more akin to Destiny or Warframe, I think mechanically it can be done because of the way Plasmids and Vigors work, as well as the lore of having tons of Splicers down in Rapture. The issue is you simply can't make the rest of the game feel right with that set up. It would fundamentally be different from what people liked about the series in the past, and you end up with a game like Dead Space 3 or a (hypothetically bug-free) Fallout 76.

That just made me incredibly sad. The only progression system I want out of a Bioshock game is a great story. Keep the Destiny bull crap out.
To be fair here, Bioshock does have progression in all three games. You decided how to upgrade both your weapons and Plasmids/Vigors to some degree, though it was less well thought out in Infinite than the first two.

Don’t know my Spanish but..

I'm curious how they'll make Splinter Cell into a long-form live service game. Best case scenario is copying Hitman 2, but I don't think that does numbers that Ubisoft would be happy with. What's the opposite end of the spectrum, Metal Gear Survive?

Surprised about the fact that there’s gonna be a new Bioshock. Kinda pumped, but also leery with the new info on live service stuff. We shall see.

Also, in slightly off-topic news, if anyone here Is a retail employee and uses the Zunos app (PlayStation stuff), do your new quiz tonight and you might get an email with a code for Death Stranding. Gonna post to the peeps in the PS thread as well but I frequent this side of the board more.

That's funny I was just actually thinking that the new Hitman might be a good example of a way to make a new "modern" Splinter Cell game, something with maybe fewer levels but much more open overall and highly re-playable. Could still do some kind of half way narrative jammed in there for good measure. It seems pretty obvious in interviews with Yves Guilemot that Ubisoft isn't really interested in the Splinter Cells series though or at least hasn't wrapped it's head around how to monetize the shit out of it. Then again most of the time I've seen it brought up was this summer before it seems like Breakpoint was rejected by gamers overall and they pulled the release of every other game of theirs off the table for retooling. Maybe they are turning over a new leaf.

I'd love another Splinter Cell game.  I'd even love a remaster of some of the originals.  I have fond memories of the original Splinter Cell on the first Xbox, not only because it was a great game, but it also happened to be the key that unlocked softmods and XBMC.  :)

A quick question:

My question recently got a One S for his birthday but doesn't have Live, so I wanted to get him Xbox Live for his birthday present. Looking at the prices in Canada, is it better to buy Gold or buy Game Pass ultimate? It's only a $5 difference if I buy them from the Microsoft website.

Also, can you gift Game Pass Ultimate or is it only possible to buy for one's own account?

A new Rebates tab showed up on my Microsoft Rewards dashboard page with the word "BETA" next to it this morning when I did my daily Bing searches.  Looks like Microsoft is taking on Rakuten.

But I'd like to know if this will allow us to get Bing points from purchases made with retailers through the dashboard.

It's come up a few times on the MSRewards reddit page, no one is getting it working yet. Will be interesting to see what it is.

Yes, there is an option to gift both GP and Gold.

Are you sure about that pricing? I checked the US store prices and for 3/6/12 month of Gold it's $25/$40/$60 and for GP it's $45/$90/$180. Canada's pricing may be different but when I looked at the prices the options for 2 of the offers were reversed when buying so I it looked like $40 and $45 but it was actually 6 months gold and 1 month GP.

If you are correct about the pricing, I'd go with GP. He/she will have access to a library of games for the length of the sub but will be getting 2 free Xbox 360 games to keep. Also, have him/her redeem the code on last day the GwG games can be claimed before it switches to the new GwG game, so usually on the 15th and last day of the month. I found this gives you a third GwG because you are able to download it earlier than scheduled.

Unless there was some big shake up from the recent news that they're actively trying to make more unique games or whatever, if this SC game has been in development for a while I expect another Ubisoft open world with radio towers. Could work I guess, it would expect Metal Gear Solid V would be the gameplay inspiration if that's the case.

Obvious live service stuff to me would be weapons, gear, and clothing for sale with additional missions added likely through a mix of paid and free.

I'm guessing these types of deals won't last forever, but they want that install base to market to publishers.
Plus with these deals going out to 2022 on Gamepass ultimate (I’m good til Aug 2022) it makes it an easy choice on next gen. Do I want a PS5 for $499 + $60 for a second controller + $60 for a launch game or an Super Xbox Scarlett Edition for $499 + $60 for a second controller and prob 2 or 3 launch games will be on Gamepass. One of those most likely being Halo Infinite.

All Xbox One controllers will be compatible with the new console, so most of us won't need to buy multiple new controllers for next gen. It's also safe to assume that 360 games will have some basic enhancements on such superior hardware, given what has been possible on the X1X. The long game is definitely to market to the next generation.

Ultimate is awesome and absolutely worth the price. I was skeptical at first, but since I've had it the only game I've outright purchased was Borderlands 3 and i wish i could return it. The Outer Worlds blows it away, free with Ultimate.

Yeah, I didn't realize I only looked at the monthly price for them. It seems like 6 months of Ultimate is about $100, which is probably what I'll do. I don't think I've ever seen a Game Pass Ultimate physical card in Canada, so I'll probably just gift him the purchase from the MS website. If I do that, he'd get a code in his email right? It won't auto-redeem to his account?

Yes, he should get a code to redeem on his own.

So what’s everyone currently playing?

I finally finished the main story of borderlands 3 and working my way thru the side quests. The story wasn’t great, some of the voice acting and dialogue was just bad. It’s a bit disappointing after enjoying 2 so much but it still plays well and was fun cooping my way through it with my brother.

Replaying Skyrim again on switch. No matter how many hours I put in to it across pc 360 x1 and now switch I always find new stuff I’ve done or seen before.

Got rage 2 this weekend for $20 and decided to give it a try. Not too happy with it so far. It's basically just a doom clone which was I game I heavily disliked in the first place. Oh well, I'll basically still push through it.

Also got Division 2 for $12 so I'll be balancing both, which makes rage 2 a little easier.

Same. I got it for $15 and played for 20 mins and put it down.

I want to like Doom 2016 more than what I do. Tried on several occasions to give it another go and hope it clicks but it just never does. Keep hoping I’d get to Hell and it would pick up but haven’t made it there. Glad to know Rage is so similar.

Wait, people didn't like Doom? I Legit loved that game and the stupid crazy power trip of everything existing to either be blown up or torn apart. Suffice to say now I'm intrigued to play Rage 2 that I got from awhile back a little sooner. Rage 2 you just got bumped up to 2021from my backlog!

And almost done with Bloodstained, deciding if I want to grind out some of those achievements, but probably won't knowing I got other games waiting.
