Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

First time ever, and I didn't go over, I just used 600gb of our 1tb in a single day, so they called because of "fraudulent activity" on our account.
I go up to my cap every month and have never had anyone call and threaten to cancel my services.

Same here. I get close from Thanksgiving thru the new year because of all the sales. I hit my limit a few times but other then an email stating this, they never called me.
My mom is an old lady, and she pays for the account. So, I guess they assumed that she was being scammed or exploited or something.

I pay for Cox $160 uncapped. I hate them.
Cox here in Phoenix is garbage. Their overly expensive faux gigabit internet with unrealistic data caps only to charge an extra $50 to remove them..? fuck I use to have Cox at my previous house, sold that home and moved to a newer neighborhood with fiber, locked into $65 a month for life CenturyLink Gigabit fiber with no caps and will never look back. I've Had it for 2 years now and have never had an outage nor even an email or contact from them and I abuse the hell out of it.

Resident Evil 7 is awesome. Although I prefer playing it in VR, I went though it again with the 4K patch on X. Resident Evil 2 Remake is also a killer game. They translated the nostalgic feeling and style perfectly into a modern gaming scene. I was glad to see it was a contender for Game of the Year. I can't wait for Resident Evil 3 Remake, perhaps it will be a contender for GotY next year.

How do you guys feel about Life is Strange 2? I haven't started it yet. I still need to play Before the Storm as well, but I enjoyed the first one. It was a nice change of pace and hit a lot of emotional notes. It's also kind of fun how games like these and games like RE2 piss off people with frail masculinity complexes. Can't wait for Jill Valentine to be #1 bad ass next year

I have 25mb from centurylink, no cap, $45 a month including taxes and everything. It’s not fast but it’s better then laying Cox $120+ for 150mb with no cap
Worst service I ever had was the 2 years I "had" CenturyLink. 6 months over one summer they said the constant outages were due to equipment upgrades for speed increases. Never got those upgrades, just days without service. $60 for 10mbs was bad enough for the only service we could get but it never working? Ugh. I'm happy to pay for extra for this

Before the Storm is great. LIS2 is... okay. I get what they were trying to do, but anyone could have told them that the draw of these games is Chloe, Max, and Rachel. The new characters and setting introduced in season 2 is just not as interesting.

Point and click is the most tired genre there is, NO ONE understands the wit and charm of the old Sierra and LucasArts games anymore.

The only ones I can think that were kind of good were the Agatha Knife games, but DAMN they were plagued with some edgelord writing. Give me Willie Beamish any day of the week over today's stuff.
I grew up playing graphic text adventure games on C64 lol.

I remember the Perry Mason one being pretty crazy since they went through a whole trial with a booklet on how to object and what could get you objected to. Taught me law basics in my youth. Games like Borrowed Time and Fahrenheit 451 were great too.

Wow.... I don't know any of those. I grew up with an Apple IIGS and pretty much nothing but Sierra until I finally got a Tandy later and could play other stuff. I'm looking those last two up though, they sound awesome.

CenturyLink gets a bad wrap because of their DSL service. Also if you ever made the error of letting them take over your directv bill so you could get a bundle price and then decide to cancel, gooood luck!! I made this error when Cox first put caps and overages on, tried to switch but the CenturyLink DSL service was considerably slower than they claimed I was supposed to get. Tried to cancel and besides a slew of billing issues that took months to resolve, they also screwed up my Directv account so bad I had to cancel and sign up as a new customer. I swore to never use them again. That said I ended up having only 2 choices for fiber, Cox was nearly double, so I reluctantly went with CenturyLink. Their fiber is on point and if that is all they bill you for there is absolutely no issue and like I said in 2 years of using their fiber I have experienced no outages, something I could never say on Cox cable.

Life is Strange 2 is my pick for worst "game" of the year. It's like if Twitter, Tumblr, and Kotaku all sat down to write a game together. Atrocious (but hilarious) writing aside, it's almost nothing but pure padding especially once you get to Episodes 4 and 5. You always hear about people suing over games lying about their content, I think you could make a case for how nothing Episode 5 is.

Before the Storm is alright, but the problem is it's made by a different team that clearly didn't understand what made the first one so great. There's a lot of plot points that don't match up, and making a deep game was clearly too much for the developers. It's shocking how cheaply made it is, from rampant reusing assets (notice how Joyce NEVER changes clothes so matter where she is) to cutting away from scenes so they don't have to animate anything.

Today's daily special in Sea of Thieves is double XP for the Hunters Call. Also, if you sign in today you'll receive an exclusive Obsidian fishing rod.....time to go out and catch some Forsaken Devilfish to get to level 50!!!

I love the idea and even the art style of this game. I put about an hour into it to get the punch card in rewards, but I could not have been any less interested in the game. Is there anything I should be doing that would get the hooks into me, I really want to like this game?

Hoping for a Darksiders 2 sale tonight.  Can't entirely believe I'm saying that after the game has been on GwG and Game Pass, but I started playing it the week before they suddenly delisted from Game Pass.  They had said it was going to be removed, but then there were subsequent news reports that it wouldn't be, so I didn't rush to finish it.  Now I'm 3/4 of the way through!

Sea of Thieves won't even load on my Xbox One X. I just see a black screen, then it goes back to the main menu. Anybody know why? I only got my Xbox One X two weeks ago.

So this week we should be getting Untitled Goose Game on Game Pass. Can't wait to play it...next month when there's possibly a punchcard.

SoT can be played solo, but it is meant to be played with others. Getting in a sloop with another and digging up treasure via X marks the spots on a map, catching chickens or even taking on a skeleton fort. But in between then when you're sailing from island to island, you need a crew member to pass the time. Sure you can fish, battle a megalodon/ghost pirate ship, etc riding the open sea but IMO, you need someone to BS with. It is like a 1st person pirate MMO(in a way).

Sea of Thieves definitely isn't for everyone. Just like Life is Strange, Brothers and even walking sims like Gone Home aren't everybody's cup of tea. If you're just getting into the game, you need a seasoned pirate to show you the ropes. A year and a half later, Rare has made this a great pirate fantasy game with all the free updates they've put out. But yeah, I'm always down for some SoT. Send me an invite if anyone is anyone is interested, I'm a patient dude. Gamertag - Dustinator

SoT does take a few minutes to load up once you select it. It does stay on a black screen for a minute after the logo appears, but if it kicks you back to the dash? Make sure the latest version of Sea of Thieves is installed and if that doesn't work, delete and reinstall. That'd be my suggestion *shrug*

Question about all the “point and click” style adventure games out there these days (the Telltale games, etc)... am I playing them wrong, or do they lack the charm and challenge of the old PC point and clicks, like the LucasArts games (Maniac Mansion and so on)?

I keep trying them because people say they’re great, but I find the puzzles lacking and the stories fairly dull and forgettable. I’ve played the first two Walking Dead games, Tales From The Borderlands, Life is Strange 1, and I just started LiS2 for TA’s 12 Days of Christmas. They’ve all felt like a slog, and the only moment I remember from any of them is the “shootout” in Borderlands, which was actually one of the funniest moments in any game I’ve ever played.

Do I just need to go back to telling kids to get off my lawn?
Have you played Thimbleweed Park? It's by Ron Gilbert, of Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island fame. It's also included in Xbox Game Pass, in case you have it.

The treasure hunt quests are the only fun ones, because you actually have to look around for landmarks and clues. Skeleton hunting is ok, generally really easy till the last wave and then they just swarm the fuck outta ya. Collecting snakes is fun cause you have to play music to keep them from biting you, and it makes the most money per trip if you need a new peg leg or something. Skeleton forts are monotonous gank fests, maybe if you had a full crew it would be fun but tagging along or rolling solo is either boring or too difficult.

Like any multiplayer game, it's better with friends but even joining rando's can be fun. My favorite things to do between ports are a) get drunk and try to walk the bow stem or b) get right in the face of whoever's steering and play Ride of the Valkyries on the accordion (bonus points if you made your character a shirtless fat man).

Oh ya, there's an achievement for getting too drunk, puking into your cup, and then throwing that at a player to blind them. That's for sure worth doing.

Thanks for the heads up, I’m gonna check that out on GP!

I thought of another set of the point and clicks that I didn’t think of earlier that are fantastic: Shadowgate and Deja Vu. Played those on the NES, loved them then, loved them again as part of the 8-Bit Adventure Collection with The Uninvited.

How have I never heard of any of these?

Just started Gears 5 this weekend and made it to the matriarch fight and it’s a pia. After quite a few deaths had to shut down for the night. Anyone have any tips / tricks for this fight?

Freeze him a couple of times and one hit kill. Videos online. Easy

For the first 1/3 I just shot the ice as it walked towards me so it would get frozen, then shot it up. For the rest I went to the far corner, grabbed the cryo gun, froze it, then tagged frag grenades to its back. There was a video saying you could do the cryo/nades and kill it in 2-3 hits on insane, but it would never take off that much when I tried. Maybe I just couldn't plant the grenade high enough on the weak spot.

Microsoft is kinda terrible at this whole naming thing...

It does get relatively easy once you find some guides/videos that help. I thought I heard they might patch it to remove some of the cheesing, but I sure hope they didn't because it is brutally unfair playing solo. That is the kind of boss that would have made me quit the game. I'm so glad I found an easier way (it still wasn't completely easy, though), since the game was so good overall.

If it isn't at least as backward compatible as the Xbox One, no way I'll get one. If it is, I might consider an early buy to continue through my backlog on a better console.

I like it. I like just calling it Xbox, and then if someone doesn’t realize your talking about the new one you just say Series X. I rarely talk about the 360 right now so when I say Xbox I just think of the Xbox One and as the one is phased out and the Series X is phased in, then Xbox will mean that.

It will play everything the Xbox One can play, except maybe Kinect games? Unless it has a Kinect adapter someone makes.

It depends man. I want full BC out of the gate, none of this software update to add more games shit. I just want to put an OG Xbox game in and play it. I don't want to deal with shoddy emulation, screen tearing, input lag and everything else we had to suffer through when both Xbox 360 and Xbox One were in their early stages of BC.

If they can pull this off, it will be huge. As a bonus (but not really mandatory) it would be great if OG Xbox games had their servers restored and receive achievements.

They're not doing that. It will be as compatible as Xbox one and If they start the BC program again to get more 360 and OG Xbox games compatible.

As far as I've seen the initial statement about BC when they stopped new updates on One was they intended to make sure everything that plays on Xbox One will be available from day one on Series X.

They've also said ALL accessories for the One are planned to work for next gen so I imagine that includes Kinect 2.0 with an adapter.

If they get all their ducks in a row early enough I can see the BC working on adding additional Original and 360 games for this launch, or after launch if not, but unless something major changes with the licensing issue I don't think we'll see console-wide support like it seems some people are expecting.

yeah, not a day one buy, with 2/3rds of my b/c collection ignored and not available, it isnt worth it, just the doax2 never addressed for digital and blocked buy censorship microsoft is enough, no doa5 x enhanced is the same without censorship, no project gothams, rumble roses, oneechabaras, ninety nine nights, it wont play all well and i dont need a (possibly) less censorsed x than a ps5 with 5 times the censorship, the fact they will continue the halo 5 story with the mc being the black guy instead of the series being only the master chief, dont support woke

Damn man, you said it. Like, duh. People just say they play on Playstation. They may type ps4 because its quicker, but I think it as "Play-station." I'm young enough to not call every console a Nintendo, but every Nintendo console is just that. Of course it's just "xbox," but they still need to market it to parents so they know there's a new one that's better.

Sixmanwhistle has the right of it as far as BC. They took last year, and the next year, to make sure the Series models would be fully 360 and One compatible. I'm sure there will be hiccups, but could you imagine it auto-detecting PC-level compatibility modes for previous generations? I doubt it will be that robust but if they're serious about blurring the line between PC and console that seems like the route to do it.

I don't really want to respond with the dumb shit at the end of the post there, but I will say if anyone cares about DOA being censored on consoles, either the fighter or Volleyball series, then get them on PC. They're uncensored and have plenty of lewd/nude mods, as well as normal mods that add cool costumes or model swaps.

Most of the other stuff in that list is just really niche for them to be high on the priority list, while racing games tend to have licensing issues with both cars and music.

It's like I'm reading the ramblings of someone having a stroke.

And Gears Tactics ready to be preloaded on game pass. News to me!
