Through the console, after first selecting to download a GoD you are greeted by a familiar gray confirmation screen that pops up displaying the size of the download as well as confirming the price. At the bottom of this gray pop-up is the instruction to press the "X button" in order to change the payment type to MSP. Pictured below with an arrow:
darn, had to go out. Tomorrow hopefully. I played a couple levels today, to try and level my orange knight up somewhat from complete novice, so hopefully I won't suck so much between all of you that seem to have maxed out the game every way you slice it;)
Yeah, I was gone tonight too. I'll be on tomorrow too. I've only maxed out a guy or 2, and I'd be down to start a new guy, so don't worry if you're not all leveled up. :p

Wait at least a little while, game needs a patch big time. I've had a few freezes, tonight i had a tournament where I was kicking ass and now it won't let me get past the 'press a to deal next hand screen.' Pretty annoying...

Same thing happened to me today. I don't want to start a new tournament either because it'll count as a loss and I only had Sam and Ash to eliminate and had almost all of the chips. Shit's ridiculous that it's this broken.

I've played the game for a few hours and haven't had a single glitch at all... strange that it's happening to a few of you.

Got Catan and I'm pretty posses that they didn't allow offline local multiplayer. I realize online restrictions as you could just feed a player, but come on I can't play 2 players on same Xbox offline?

I guess I should have done my research. But just figured me and the wife would have fun learning a new board game. Guess that's out the window

Sounds good. We can all start new characters. Wait. You've never played it? Get on that! If I'm not on Poker Night 2, BBT or Borderlands 2 I'm open to playing whatever. Did you make a decision on what games you're buying to finish your punch card?

I've noticed some slowdowns while playing Poker Night 2 too. Telltale seems to disappoint again in that department. Luckily it's not as bad as in TWD.

You do realize that part of the gameplay involves keeping cards hidden from other players, and cashing them in, just like in Risk?

I feel only "slightly dirty" for suggesting this, but if you purchased any XBLA games from the "Sales & Specials+" app, but they currently show as "yet to be purchased" within your regular Xbox Marketplace, then why not pick them up to count towards the "4x400" or "3200 MSP" punches? Once you get your 1 month / 800 MSP reward back (maybe a few months from now), then email Xbox Support, and say you realized that a few games were double-purchased, and that you need to be reimbursed. Your results may vary, but it is one way to resolve the question of what to buy.

Is it really worth a headache of doing this for essentially a few dollars in points and the few bucks that a month of live is worth? My guess is that this won't work anyhow. Somehow it'll bite you in the butt. This is the same sort of logic where you buy something on a credit card to get airmiles but then return the item still hoping you will keep those airmiles. And it doesn't work like that (and if you Constanza it you'll wind up with non-refundable tickets anyhow). And anyways, for the amount of hassle it would take, just buy a cheap 400pt game. Maybe try Rotastic or something strange. Take a gamble. This is a chance to go outside your comfort zone and try a game you'd have never have thought to try. Life doesn't give you many chances like that. And to be honest, I think I'd rather play an hour of Amy than spend an hour on the phone with a Microsoft costumer service agent where I'd have to explain to him/her that I'm an idiot and bought a game I already own so that I can try to get a few dollars back as at least even with a shit game like Amy I'd gain a few cheevos.
So I'd been mulling Arcadecraft at its normal 240 price. Then I saw Major Nelson tweet that it was on sale for 80 and grabbed it like crazy from my PC.

Sat down with it tonight to fiddle with it just for a bit and.... 3 hours later emerged back from it oblivious to the time that had passed. 3 hours gone, just like that.

Well then. Can't recommend Arcadecraft enough at 80 if you don't already own it. It's hardly perfect but it'll suck you riiiigghhtt on in.
Nice find! I was hesitant at 240 with my current backlog, but at 80 it's a no-brainer.

Same here, froze up on me just a few hours ago. Glad I didn't impulse buy and just waited for an eventual sale.

My wife was there watching me play(she enjoys Tell Tale Games, sat through the whole Walking Dead series and loved it) and I told her that the freezing issue solidifies my decision to wait till a sale at half off. She then came back with, "why would you pay $5 for a buggy game? I personally, wouldn't pay more than $2 for a glitched game."......kinda made me wonder why as a gamer, I put up with so much crap from devs releasing a buggy game on Day One. I think it just reaffirms that I gotta exhibit patience and wait for all the patches to come in so the bugs can be worked out. THEN the devs are deserving of my money. I REALLY need to have this mentality going into the next gen if (as rumored), Microsoft is giving devs more control come the next generation
The trade thread is going to be cluttered with 1-Month Golds and "exclusive" avatar items in a couple of weeks.
I don't think they'll give you a code for the extra month of gold, they'll just tack it on to your account. I know that's how they did it with me before. So the trade thread won't really notice anything. Though I'm assuming that the avatar will be a code and possibly the VIP exclusive (which is likely an avatar prop or something).

I've played Poker Night 2 for hours with no bugs/glitches. Have 2 themes unlocked and have 2 bounty items.

Guess it's just random/I'm lucky. Sucks because I'm really enjoying it.

Xbox Live Rewards says you'll get a guaranteed "spot" in an upcoming VIP Exclusives, so I don't think it sounds like an item reward. Maybe it will be some kind of live streaming event you'll get access to. I would like it to be a new tier that gives you more points back on purchases.

It only happened to me after I'd unlocked everything. That's part of what annoys the hell out of me.

My approach in being a CAG on the the 360 became liberated to a refined state now that multiple items are offered on discount opposed to the days of yore where only one item is offered on DotW. It was soul crushing back then causing me to add to a backlog with games I probably would not have purchased because the title would meet some bare minimum of acceptability (still regret Gatling Gears) and/or could never see a discount again (Banjo-Tooie was on discount back in 2010 then I had to wait a long time before the original Banjo-Kazooie saw a discount as well; I know others on this thread still desire those repeated for discount are continuing to wait).

At least I can now choose to miss out on some discounts with less regret, as I figured out with I Am Alive and Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit last week after trying the demos out for myself [CUSTOMSPOILER=My Assessment](I Am Alive felt too rigid/constricting in play structure to me and Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit despite the good humor/story posses that "glorified flash game" feel as tuffguycore mentioned and the only interesting gameplay part to me being the Wario-ware styled mini-games for unique enemy vanquishing.)[/CUSTOMSPOILER]. Both were 480MSP, and I will give those two titles another look if they drop to 400MSP (yes, that additional 80MSP was enough to make me say "no"). The rewards offer for the month enabled me the latitude to purchase games I actually would have purchased anyway with a bonus that with a bit more I can get a decent refund.

With every week this April covering a broad spectrum of titles/genres in XBLA and offering some never-before (properly) discounted items, it became easier to fill up the MyPunchcards of the rewards program. Throughout the month, I purchased Retro City Rampage, Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins, Black Knight Sword, and From Dust on discount (along with a Dishonored DLC and the PvZ table on Pinball FX2 at discounts) so far. The take so far would have been games I would have bought anyway even without the rewards offer because of the discounts, they met my personal requirements for value (fun for the money). I still have the remainder which I fulfilled with two games I determined will unlikely get a discount in the near future (Garou: Mark of the Wolves & NeoGeo Battle Colosseum) and I just consider the reward refund as making them 50% off. That approach leaves me with games I am happy to own and I get the CAG peace of mind, that I didn't overpay. Sure, I overshot the 3200MSP requirement to attain the 800MSP refund, but my goal was not to get maximum efficiency of spending, but actually get games I like for the lowest possible prices. The end of the month is coming, and there may be a rush to try and fulfill the requirements to the MyPunchcard offer, I'm suggesting buying the XBLA game you had in your mind of acquiring anyway but had waited too long for a discount, you don't have to settle for a bare minimum quality and just consider it 800MSP off something you KNOW you like.
I always wonder how other people work through their backlogs. I was going by date of release, but then I ended up playing a bunch of open world games back to back. Now I just rotate 2 retail, and one xbla game at a time. Wish I wasn't an achievement whore, this would be easier.
My procedure is to just play what I feel like playing at the moment. Since my taste in games are quite varied, I could play anything at any available time, so this flowchart doesn't steer me wrong for what I may feel like at the moment (also for those deciding between the discounted Catan and Carcassone of this week they are at the end of this other flowchart). This procedure does maximize the fun I have, but it's potentially inefficient at knocking things off my backlog. There are exceptions to place certain games on higher priority to tackle from my backlog, like this month's emphasis to gain 20 hours on XBLA titles or an imminent server shutdown.

Speaking of which, since Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD is a coming discount this Tuesday at 600MSP, an alternative 360 disc-game, Skate 3, will have certain website features discontinued on the 29th of this month (do not know if that means today is the last day or sometime tomorrow they will be removed). If people are achievement whores, those website features are tied to 3 achievements and are held for ransom by EA for 800-1600MSP (additional 800MSP if one really wants to upload HD video) just to gain access to the features which will be gone very soon. Just to clarify, the servers are not going down, just a website, but it would be upsetting if these paid contents stayed on the 360's dashboard landing page. This is where being a CAG and an achievement whore can be incongruous.
I know Symphony of the Night is considered one of the greatest games ever, but am I missing something? I tried the demo, and everything just felt super clunky and unfocused, and I really just wasn't enjoying it. I was expecting something like Super Metroid, which grabbed me right away. Maybe I just needed to play longer?
I had passed on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night every time it saw a discount on the 360 because I could always just pop in my PS(1) disc into my PS3 and use my old savegame (I have the USB converter/uploader for memory cards). This coming week, the XBLA version will be only 320MSP for DotW, and I guess achievements, 360 convenience, and the dashboard can stop recommending the game to me (because of my interest in Megaman 9 and Ikaruga >_
i hope Monaco comes out this week, i need it real bad
From Monaco's Facebook:

A quick update on the Xbox version:

As most of you know, we caught a bug that forced us to pull the release of the Xbox version of the game the day before release. It was a minor but important bug that was causing disconnects in online play. I submitted an update to attempt to fix the bug early in the week, but unfortunately it only half fixed the problem. I'm working on another fix now that I'm hoping to submit this week. Once it's confirmed fixed it shouldn't take long to push it through and get the game out. I can't promise any particular dates since I don't control that end of things, but I do know that fans are starting to get a little impatient with the lack of information. I wish I could give you more specific information, but until I have a confirmed fix, I won't be able to give a date. Hoping to have a little more information for you and fill you in on more of the details as soon as I have it!
Peggle Nights is a great value for $2. Works with the Plants vs Zombies disc too, you don't need Peggle downloaded.
i really can't see myself buying it at any price just bc
1) peggle comes with tons and tons of levels already
and
2) i mostly play it online now, and when you play it online with the base game, the nights levels come up randomly for you to play anyway, so outside of the extra character there's just no reason for me to buy it, no matter how low the price is :/

Do the Indie Games count towards spending 800pts for a punch? I'm sure this has been covered, and I really hope it's not in the OP since I checked. After next week's sales, I'll be required to spend 440 points, so indie games sound like a solid bet.

EDIT: Never mind, searched and found a post. Needs to be an actual Arcade game, nothing else (no Indie, no Games on Demand, etc). I'll leave my post here just in case anyone else was wondering.

Both the extra 1 month, as well as the 800 MSP, will get tacked onto your account without user-intervention. The avatar item will most likely be delivered as a 5x5 code via email or Xbox message, since there's no way to auto-download & auto-apply that item to your avatar (and you may not want it anyways).

However, the VIP exclusive could be "messaged" to you or simply auto-applied, but I wouldn't hold your breath on its value, since it could be a game/DLC you don't own / already own / upcoming, or an avatar item, or anything else "digital" that technically doesn't cost MS anything to give you.

Thanks, and that's the same advice I'd give to 95% of folks here ... to spend 400 - 800 MSP on an extra game, rather than a double-purchase, since you're essentially getting it for free if you've already accumulated 2400 MSP in XBLA purchases. My advice is more aimed towards us long-timers here who already have have "a considerably-sized library" with little remaining of interest, and ran out of ideas on purchases.

For those stumped on what to get for 400 - 800 MSP, I'd definitely check out these sources for ideas:

  • The Wikipedia page for XBLA releases, sorted by MSP.
  • Xbox.com's sorted list of best-selling XBLA titles.
  • Major Nelson's most-recent list of top 20 XBLA games purchased.
  • The Twisted Pixel bundle ... seriously, it's 3600 MSP worth of games for 800 MSP!
  • The DOTW for April 30th, listed on our OP, as well as Major Nelson's blog, which will go live around 4/30 @ 2am PDT, and be valid for 14-15 hours up through the promo's deadline between 4pm-5pm'ish PDT (depending how they've configured the reporting servers to account for GMT).
Note I was going to also suggest the "Angry Birds Trilogy" sale starting 4/30, but since it's a GoD title, it doesn't count.
  • Games your friends have picked up. Use the "Compare Games" feature on their profile, which will list their games in order of most-recently played by default.
  • Atari-published games, which you should assume will get de-published as soon as its game licenses/IP are sold off in bankruptcy court.
  • Games NOT found on compilation discs, because you can often find them "cheap" on eBay or used-game retailers. See post #2 in this thread for more info & lists.
  • And finally, TylerH1701's list of XBLA games yet to go on sale
Hope this helps anyone's last-minute purchase dilemma. ;)

Actually, it doesn't take that much effort, once you've done your homework to certify duplicate GUID's between the "Sales & Specials+" app and your native-region's Marketplace, and I'm still working on the Excel XLS that will help others do this quickly. Once you can generate your purchases into a text list, then it's simply a matter of copy/paste into an Xbox customer service chat window, rather than trying to explain all of this by voice to an ESL phone representative. :booty:

@Crono-00 Thanks for posting those flowcharts! I love stuff like that. :)

Now that I've got a few games of Catan under my belt, 320 MSP is definitely a fair price for it. Still really irked that you change your character's colors though.

Doesn't anyone read the fine print?

"Purchase a total of four Arcade games under the Xbox LIVE account tied to your Rewards account and earn a token for a 1-month Xbox LIVE Gold membership. The Xbox LIVE Gold memberships will be fulfilled via email to all eligible members on or before May 30, 2013."

If anybody needs an 800pt game Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds is a really good value. It's got 4 player story/arcade/versus, and the characters all play pretty differently from eachother. They've recently patched it so that people with the dlc can play with those without, which was really the only strike against it before.

"Fulfilled" means they'll pay-out by that date, and merely have to notify that they extended you. However, with XBL Silver accounts also qualifying for Xbox Rewards, you probably have a good point that it'll come as a 5x5 email.

This is where the shame should kick in, right? I've played castle crashers for about 5 minutes. It seemed like it would a helllva lot more fun when played with others. So naturally I put it aside for later and completely forgot about it.

I picked up polar panic last night. I'm still 680 msps away from the 4th punch. I've been thinking about picking up poker night 2, but after playing full house poker non-stop for 9 months because of the famestar crap, the last thing I want to play is another poker game.
I think I'll just bite the bullet and pick up Arkadian Warriors and Blade Kitten and be done with it.

Hopefully next month's rewards allow for dlc purchases. I have several I need to pick up.

I was actually wondering myself when this game was coming out. It looks fantastic. Is there a confirmed price on it yet?
This is where the shame should kick in, right? I've played castle crashers for about 5 minutes. It seemed like it would a helllva lot more fun when played with others. So naturally I put it aside for later and completely forgot about it.
We need to get on that!

Agreed! A DLC focused Punch Card event would be great. I need the DLC for DMC, Rage and a few old games like Banjo N&B.

I need to spend 720 more points to finish the punch card for this month...stumped as to what to get.

So far this month I have gotten:

Skulls of the Shogun - 800
Poker Night 2 - 800
ilomilo - 400
Hell Yeah! - 480

ilomilo is 800, but I'd go w/Poker Night 2.

He was saying that these were the games he has bought this month, not games he is planning on purchasing.

I'm glad I read the tail end of the thread or I would've never known about Arcadecraft for 80 points. Does it qualify towards the 800 points Rewards for spending 3200 points in arcade games?

I still need to spend 320 more points to get my 800 points in Rewards. Aqua and Polar Panic have both been on my list for a long time. I know Aqua was free through the defunct Scratch & Match (which I could never win) which makes me think it's more likely to go on sale cheaper than 400 than Polar Panic.

Given the choice between buying Aqua and Polar Panic (which I like about equally), which is the least likely to drop in price any time soon (i.e. which should I pick)?

Alternatively I could buy Quantum Conundrum for 480, but I'm in a quandry over that. I have it free on PSN+ but I doubt I'll have time to play it and all my other PSN+ games before my PSN+ expires in August, and I doubt I'll renew it any time soon simply because I only have 3 hours of gaming time per week which isn't enough to justify the monthly expense. For those who have loads of time to play games, PSN+ is great deal. I have the same issue with XBL Gold... never enough time to make it worthwhile except when there's a sale/special.

I think one diner is a rather small amount for an entire country;)
He was alluding to the fact that you're missing an "n" in dinner.

I know when Pinball Arcade does the Star Trek TNG table, I WILL want that. The question is if I want to take the chance on spending 800 points in order to get my last punch for the base game when it's been a seriously long wait for the TNG table to show up on 360.

Yeah, I know. I was just alluding to the fact he capitalized Hungary, instead of hungry for whatever reason
