Often overlooked, GoD are by default displayed in dollars both on Xbox.com as well as on the console, but on the very-first confirmation screen of the download process is the option to use Microsoft Points in place of real-world currency.

Through the console, after first selecting to download a GoD you are greeted by a familiar gray confirmation screen that pops up displaying the size of the download as well as confirming the price. At the bottom of this gray pop-up is the instruction to press the "X button" in order to change the payment type to MSP. Pictured below with an arrow:

On Xbox.com they've made it much more obvious, the confirmation "extra step" pop-up after clicking the download link displays a link that simply says "Use Microsoft Points" directly under the price in dollars at the top of the page.

Did you try through the 360 itself? Sometimes items are restricted through Xbox.com but not the console.
Hmm - no. That might be it, but doing it that way is kind of a pain since it won't let you buy something if it already exists on the console - even a disc install. I had to delete my disc install of Borderlands 2 just to get the option to buy Borderlands 2 digitally.

But I can certainly test this later. Getting rid of Defense Grid isn't a big deal (not like having to delete a 5 GB+ game and redownload it just to get the digital version over the disc-install version).

But I tried to get Defense Grid for my son (on his gold account) and got this message:
"Purchase of this content is currently not allowed for child and teen accounts."

WTF!? He's 13 now which means he has finally been able to play in EA multiplayer games that he was locked out of before. But now he still can't download this!? It's no big deal - I had already bought this game before. But I thought it would be nice to get it on his purchase history in case he has his own Xbox 360 later. Just a little bit annoying - hope they won't do this for all the "free" games.
I'd encourage you to ask this question to @XboxSupport on Twitter. Not every policy or restriction on Xbox Live is intentional, and they might be able to further investigate for you.

That's an interesting issue, hadn't heard of that. If that's the case, then you might experiment & delete the pre-installed copy from the HDD, and attempt to re-purchase via the 360. You can certainly re-install without problems with your account if that's the 360 where the game was originally purchased.

Not really to big of a fan of GoD....  I much prefer to have a physical copy of a game but, I seen Crysis for 400 MSP and couldnt pass it up....  That a steal in my mind and I havent ever got around to playing it.  I played Crysis 2 a lil but, couldnt get into it because I have gamer ADD and like to start playing games from the begining.

I guess I can go out and buy Crysis 2 again since I already have Crysis 3 in my backlog and blow threw all 3 of them sometime :).  Was thinking about buying Mass Effect because I have 2 & 3 but, thought it out and Id really rather have the physical copy just gonna have to wait til a local GS has it instock with an original vanilla copy thanks for the post

Oh no, Borderlands 2 is $10.  :whee:

Even though I just finished Borderlands 1 a few days ago (After buying it during the last big games sale), i'm going to have to respectfully pass. It's too soon bro.

One of the most underrated games of 360's past. a good deal at 240, but you can get the physical disc for the same price almost anywhere now-a-days. It was linear, but it was still a alot of fun to play. Theres soooo many ideas that game had, and other games used (portals, walking on walls/ceilings, playing mini games when you die, using alien weapons and of course, the best use of Blue Oyster cult's - DONT FEAR THE REAPER --- ever)
Have you SEEN "The Stand" movies? I'd say that opening is the best use of that song.. but thats neither here nor there, I think I'll be getting Prey thanks to this recommendation.

If you enjoyed the first Borderlands id highly suggest buying Borderlands 2 for $10 I doubt we will ever see it drop below that price. Lowest physical copy Ive seen was during that GS sale for $20 a few weeks back.

One of the few games Ive actually enjoyed this year and paid full price for it with no regrets

Thanks to the poster who mentioned Omega's price drop!  Picked that up as I've been waiting for a sale on it.

Probably gonna grab BL2, disc copy trades in for $12.xx on Amazon so a $2 profit to go to digital, cant say no!

Wish we knew what Forza and the Witcher 2 would be, I'd look at getting rid of my physical copies of those as well if the price is right.

Sale is awesome so far, FC3 should be a little cheaper IMO but can't really complain.

which is better tomb raider or farcry 3 i would get both but im saving the rest of my points for bioshock
IMO it's no contest, Tomb Raider was extremely repetitive, derivative, and way overrated. Far Cry 3 though was one of my favorite games in a long while...awesome game with tons of non-linear gameplay.

l would have said the exact same thing, except I would have switched the games.

I plan to build a powerful PC within a few months, don't know if I should buy Crysis for the Xbox now or wait and get it for my future PC. Anyways Divinity 2 looks real cool for $5, is it the whole saga or just the sequel with DLC? I've always wanted to try Bulletstorm.

From what I read, it's the original game and an expansion. Evidently there's a director cut with more content but its not available on Xbox.

Wow...  Color me surprised at the deepness of these discounts.  I didn't think Microsoft would really want to compete with the level of recent PS+ sales, but they did.  My hat's off and my wallet is open.

For me, they chose the perfect set of games. Most of the titles I've thought about playing at one time or another, but wasn't interested in paying much at all to try them out. I'll need to be careful, or I'll end up buying a little over half of these.

I mean, hell, I may even end up getting Monopoly Streets for the wife and I...  :hot:

Prey - For only 240 points, you'd have to be to crazy pass on this. Prey is a great game, the multiplayer is as dead as a doornail though. AND. For all you people that were complaining about how hard Spelunky is, you cannot die in this game! So it's perfect for ya'll!   ;)

Bulletstorm - Bulletstorm was surprisingly one of my favorite games of 2011. Awesome guns, crazy weapon combos and just a whole bunch of fun.

Borderlands 2 - I don't think I really need to explain why you should get this. It's my 2012 GOTY and it's only 800 points.

Perfect Dark Zero - If you have someone to play it with coop it'll probably be more fun. I had alot of fun with it way back in 2005. Mutiplayer is a ghost town. But It's only 240 points, and you should get that much fun out of it.

I myself will definitely be picking up Crysis, Gatling Gears and Borderlands 2 dlc.

Great deals.  I'm really tempted by BL2.  I just looked through the past 15 pages or so and didn't see anything on Far Cry Instincts Predator.  I know it's among the oldest on the 360, but any thoughts on that game?

I don't think I got a "Uplay Passport" with Assassin's Creed 3. I'll have to buy it to play online, right?

That kinda sucks.
You don't need a uPlay Passport to play online, but not having one limits your ability to unlock abilities and character accessories. I don't have a passport since I received the game used and I honestly wouldn't shell out the money for one.

How well has far cry instinct aged? I've only played part 3, should i keep it that way or is it worth the trip?
I enjoyed Far Cry 1 a lot back in the day, 2 not so much, but after playing 3, I don't see how anyone can go back and enjoy them all the same. Far Cry 3 is on a whole nother level.

You played FC3: Blood Dragon yet? That is on a whole 'nother level... So awesome.

Shoot, maybe i'll pick that one up later then. Decisions, decisions.

Anyways I think now is the time for me to give my 2cents on some games I've played that are on sale or going to be on sale.

Defense Grid: Awakening: A good tower defense game that can get quite difficult in later levels. There is no reason someone should pass it up for FREE. I haven't beaten it since I hit a level I could pass in a couple tries, but plan to go back to it.

Assassins Creed 3: Funny enough I'm playing the GoD version right now, about 75% done compared to the animus database. I really like the AC franchise even though Brotherhood really was stretching the Ezio storyline too much. So far the new era, story and plenty of new stuff to do and places to explore has nearly renewed my interest. I personally don't know why everyone says the story isn't god, I like it as much as the others. But compared to other AC games, it lacks polish and you tend to feel that it was done in parts by different teams. Overall a great game for only $15, but will eventually drop more in price. BTW I doubt that there will be a GOTY edition.

Boarderlands 2: No reason to skip on this for $10, unless you already have it. Great co-op game with real good DLCs, loads of replayability (not a real word) but lacks a great story, although much better compared to the original.

Max Payne 3: Exactly what you would expect from a Max Payne game. If that's what your looking for then your good to go for $10. Multiplayer isn't bad but doesn't draw me back like other games. Plus I didn't feel the need to go back for another campaign run even though there are reasons to do so.

Mass Effect: Why isn't this in your collection? One of the best RPGs ever, it's 5 space bucks, for a fantastic game that takes place in space, stop waiting. Heck, I might buy it and I already have the disc.

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway: Don't let the dated graphics and linear-ish levels scare you off, it's still a unique tactical shooter that really takes the "tactics" to heart. Not bad for $5 but can be had for a little more used disc.

Dragon Age: Origins: The only reason you shouldn't get this for $5 is that there is a even better deal with the Ultimate Edition, a ton of dlc on disc for another amazingly awesome RPG. Just get the Ultimate Edition, you will thank me later.

Prey: I wouldn't call it underrated, but it is a little old and not talked about much even when it came out. Beat it on the PC and Xbox 360 and even 1000/1000 easy. An somewhat typical late 90s-early 2000s story but with some interesting elements thrown in. At only $3 it's practically free, a good sci-fi FPS that should get a sequel (I'm talking to you Bethesda).

Forza Horizon: Easily one of my favorite racing games of the last few years, completely fresh, awesome music that doesn't get old quick, open-world gameplay with great Forza driving physics. I really can't find any faults, I had a blast. Don't know the price but for $15 or less I would highly recommend it.

The Orange Box: Here is what you get - Half-Life 2, Episodes 1+2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. 5 games in one, an amazing value on day one and hasn't lost it's charm. You should already have it but who knows what price it will go for.

Thinking about grabbing Borderlands 2. Heard some great things but have never experienced or seen either game firsthand. Looks like some of the DLC is on sale this week, can anyone give me a rundown of what is considered the essential/best DLC for the game? I want to see what the total cost would be since I'm wanting to pick up Tomb Raider and Bioshock this week as well. Thanks!

How's Far Cry 3 linear?
I didn't mean to imply Far Cry 3 was linear. Just that I consider Tomb Raider to be an exception, once in a generation game, that is also non-linear since it had that exploration sense to it. I also found Far Cry 3 boring fast. That happens to me with all open world games though, it feels like 60-70% of my game time is traveling from point A to B without really playing the actual gameplay. Thats why. Personal preference is all. I would recommend both games, but I favor Tomb Raider, and I admit that Far Cry 3 wasn't my cut of tea.

Get Borderlands 2 and don't even worry about the DLC until later. There is a ton of content there for $10. If you're lucky, the Season Pass might go on sale again in the future and you can futher enhance the experience, but there is no need to plan your purchase of the main game based on the DLC. That being said, it seems that the DLC preference for most people seems to go in this order (best to worst): Tiny Tina, Torgue, Captain Scarlett, Hammerlock. There are also some DLC characters, but I don't recommend trying them until you play the main game for awhile since those character DLC's cost the same as the full game right now. Also, the characters may or may not add much value depending on your preference, play style, etc. Personally, I love the Mechromancer, but it's really hard to recommend spending $10 on that when you are only spending $10 on the full game.

Tempted to do the same. It's a game I play regularly enough to consider paying for the laziness of not changing discs.
yep, i was already planning on buying the GoD before they announced the sale so when they did I put my disc copy on ebay and sold it for $25 :)
