Rainbow 6 Siege is a very different shooter than is the style these days. It's 5v5, your weapon selection is extremely limited, you don't respawn until the next round, you have low health and die quickly, and rounds begin a setup phase where defenders set traps and attackers rush in remote cameras to find the objective. Playing the tutorials will give you a ton of currency to unlock characters with, but you will need to grind for dlc ops in particular. I wouldn't say it's any more grinding than in any other mp game with progression tho. The new maps are free for everyone, the season passes are just to get new characters early and for free (well, $ instead of game time).


Dark Souls 2 is easily the weakest of the series, but it still has a lot of things going for it. It runs smoother, looks better, explains what stats are for better, and has more viable character builds than Dark Souls 1. The biggest weakness is that the levels were clearly designed by separate teams and then tacked together, rather than the intricate, highly vertical level design that made the dying world of Dark Souls feel so alive. There's a ton of content for the asking price, and there's only a few standout filler areas, but the sprawl of it all makes it a poor introduction to the nuanced, interconnectivity of the other Souls games. That said, just the Pursuer fights and actual changes to bosses in NG+ make DS2 a solid entry in my book. And for all it's time spend establishing tightly interconnected areas, DS3 suffers from an overabundance of fast travel checkpoints (bonfires) so maybe that shouldn't be such a big concern.


I bought Rocket League during the sale because of all the hype, but have yet to boot it up. It looks fun and it's still super popular, which are good signs for a mp game. Videos of all the crazy flipping and mid-air boosting trick shots don't really sell me on being a game I'd be any good at, however.


My date night is going to be interupted by dinner with my bro's family. Stupid RL getting in the way of my gaming addiction, I'm trying to buy my way into heaven with gamerscore over here.

Titanfall 2 may be my favorite FPS campaign of all time.

The level design is top-notch and they managed to provide great moments both in your titan and while jumping around as a pilot. It's got all of the cool set pieces and story twists you'd expect from a good FPS campaign, and the titan boss battles were well done, too. I'm really surprised at how big Respawn came through with this after initially expecting it to be kind of tacked on to satisfy people who complained about the first game not having a traditional campaign.

Don't worry theres extra Torment settings to play with later. You'll want to upgrade your difficulty regardless because you get better loot drops which will increase your damage an defense.

 
I decided to go for Lightning Returns because there aren't a lot of RPG choices on the 360, and $10 is the lowest price that game has seen digitally. I'm pondering 0 Day of Attack on Earth since I liked the demo, but I can tell that it would be a much better co-op game although I'm sure no one is playing it online on 360. I changed my mind about Shadows of Mordor GOTY on Xbox One since it's been sale around the $10 mark on multiple occasions. I also want to spend some time with Mad Max since I haven't tried to progress past the point where I got stuck awhile back. Besides, I want to see what's going on sale for Date Night before I commit to anything else.

Well there's your problem right there. The Giants dropped the ball, literally, the Dolphins dropped the ball, the Raiders lost their offensive push -Get well Carr -, and the Lions dropped the ball.

Lol yeah so I managed to go and "finish" Forza Horizon 3 last night. What a fun game, itching to play more though (glad you still can). 👍

I might start Life is Strange or go back to The Witcher 3 today.

You are able to get everything in game in regards to the operators without the Season Pass, though as Dany said, it is quite a massive grind. You already have to use the in game currency to unlock the standard operators as well as their attachments for their weapons and such. You also get a couple random cosmetic things with the season pass as well as a permanent discount on stuff in the shop (all cosmetic). On top of that you get 2 extra challenges to complete each week or so which means more opportunity to get more renown (in game currency)

Without the season pass you will just have a smaller variety of operators to pick from for a while as you grind as well as be lout of reach of most cosmetic items like headgear and weapon skins because you will be dedicating all of your resources to unlocking playable characters rather than cosmetic things.

Saw that post on GAF, too. I thought it was strange how the game was left off of the Xbox Wire press release for 2017.

Better to cancel it then to release something terrible.

 
Hmm...well. Scalebound was a game I preordered during that $20 off $100 Visa checkout deal at Best Buy. If it gets cancelled, I wonder if BB would allow me to substitute something else without losing that discount. Not to rub salt in the wound, but I've been tthinking of Nier Automata after playing the PS4 demo.

Either way it sucks, I actually thought Scalebound looked good and MS could always use more quality exclusives. That said it would be better to have it cancelled than have Sony fanboys laughing at a crap game.

Just have to wonder how much MS lost canceling/billing these games.

Phantom Dust, Fable Legends (had to be some huge losses here), XBox Fitness (I don't know much lost, but they had to refund a lot of people which can't be good) and now Scalebound. Am I missing anything else?

I know they also killed off first party studios granted that would probably save them money in the long run, especially if said studios can't produce big hits.

The only thing MS has done wise game side is probably buying the Minecraft IP. That thing still sells gangbusters.

This sucks. XB1 doesn't have many exclusives and this looks even worst. I wonder how much MS dumped on Kamiya if this is the case... Platinum needs to stick to Bayonetta like games (Nier looks good and is also thanks to the Bayonetta like combat.)

Can't follow that link, one of my resolutions for 2017 is to avoid Kotaku.

I'm gonna go by that Scalebound is going to fade away and I'm not surprised by that. Pitty, I liked the idea of the game.

I couldn't care less if they scrapped Scalebound, the game looked like ass anyway, but I guess my judgment depends on me hating 90% of japanese games (with that 10% composed of mostly Nintendo games).

The learning curve for general play isn't bad. In ranked you won't even get to freestylers until you get up to Rising Star or higher generally. Even the most basic of players have a ton of fun in Rumble. I play a match or three every day generally.
 
Gotta wonder after four years of development how many millions were wasted on Scalebound. Ashame.

Must have been in pretty shitty shape.

Man Microsoft is lucky I'm a brand loyalist. They ain't got shit coming this year that I'm excited about. Maybe Crackdown 3 but that'll be cancelled too if you ask me. Sea Of Thieves looks like a brick. Halo Wars 2 zzzzzzzz don't care for RTS games. State Of Decay 2, yawn. They're in trouble this year when it comes to exclusives.
 
Trying to decide on Shadow of Mordor Goty, Mad Max, or State of decay before sale ends. Ik state of decay 2 is going to come out this year so is the first game good enough to play or ehh and skip and wait to try out 2? Which do you guys think, Thought about all 3 but no way would have time for 3 open world type games and by the time finish one im sure the others would drop again.

 
Microsoft seemed to be pushing Scalebound a lot for a while, i remember a ton of coverage of it on IGN too

and then we heard nothing about it last E3, and nobody seemed to care much

based on comments here too, doesn't seem like people really wanted this game much so maybe Microsoft felt it wasn't worth continuing the development

maybe the lack of success in exclusive games like Sunset Overdrive influenced the decision

 
I used to hate on Rocket League hard (mostly cause frisky gets so moist from it) but it's so undeniably good. Me and Dark Rider aka The Bangbus aka Brownwing are quite the formidable pair of anyone wants a shot at the title
 
I didn't think the most recent showing of Scalebound at E3 (or was it Gamescom?) looked all that great, but Kamiya has yet to direct a bad game so I still had faith. This really sucks but I don't think it will hurt Platinum too much because I think MS dumped most or all of the money into the project, and thus they would have made most of the money from the finished game. That seems like it was the situation for Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, and Star Fox Zero with Nintendo.

It seems like Platinum may have been stretching themselves too thin, compounded with Microsoft losing faith in the project.

love SoM. It's the only single player game I played all the way through more than one over the last couple years. Those other two games are OK in their own right but not even close to SoM.

Not as bad as it was this year with MS and sequel-itis, but i'm seeing a lot of numbers behind those titles. That really is the Xbox's major short coming. Even under the guidance of Phil Spencer they really can't get it together to develop and nurture some new IP.

 
Sad to hear the news about Scalebound :\ to think that a project you've been working on for years is suddenly canned, must feel crappy.

Heres to a good date night to make up for it! :D
