Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Goddamned. Kid made like half a million dollars on that shit. I would have definitely OD'd on cocaine if I had that much money when I was that age

FH3: Hot Wheels expansion releases 5/9. Looks very fun. Trailer at the spoiler.

How do you get this D.Va skin you speak of?
Either play 5 games of Heroes of the Storm with a person on your friend's list this week and another 5 next week, or play all 10 games next week. The event ends May 22nd.

It is F2P, games seem to take like 15-20 minutes, but half of my team including me were completely worthless so we got totally annihilated after holding the middle of the map for a couple minutes.

Prometheus has promise early on, but terrible character choices and writing killed it quick. I'd spoiler the following, but really it's so bad noone should watch it anyway. So many crap writing decisions like the sensor must have a glitch, scientists scared of their shadows then want to hug the angry hissing snake creature, not asking the chick covered in blood WTF happened to you?, the cartoon like running from the rolling object instead of running out of it's path. I feel like the zamboni scene in Deadpool was panning this one. So disappointing. I still bought the super deluxe edition from best buy when it was really cheap with the idea of watching the extras to see if important stuff was cut that explained the dumb stuff, but never brought myself to actually watching it. I was shocked it got a sequel.

Watching Aliens first does not do justice to Alien. Part of Alien's suspense is not knowing anything about this new, terrifying creature so if you've seen Aliens first you've seen so much of them they lose their mystique for the first movie. It's been awhile, but it seems like there weren't too many idiot mistakes by the characters in that one, maybe a character or two frustratingly froze in fear, but not the all out idiocy of Prometheus.
1) Electronics never have bugs, and you know you're in a movie so you should expect the worst, right?

2) They're about to go wake up the alien they believe created them, and half of them are company men fawning over Weyland.

3) If a character panics and makes a bad decision, that must be the writer's fault eh?

4) Maybe you should watch those deleted scenes, as they show the biologist being curious and collecting other samples. That cobra pose should have raised red flags, but how was he supposed to know it had the strength to break his arm? Earth snakes that size couldn't.

Or just stay on the Prometheus hate train cause it's better to fit in than think.

Nothing for me this week.

Anyone else get their fanfest ticket?
Hey, if you got in during last time when they messed up, you may not attend the FanFest but they're giving Expo tickets instead. That's pretty awesome.

I think I got in today but still waiting for the email confirmation. I'm nervous lol. I was wondering, last time did they ask questions like "what's your favorite games" and all that stuff? I was blanking out trying to fill everything in correctly ha. I even got an error during the payment option, so I had to hit the back button and it went thru.

In case you are not as dorky as me, and are not watching the livestream reveal, here is the trailer.

Anyone who's seen the Top Gear Arctic special will be excited to see the Toyota Hilux coming to Forza Horizon. I'm wondering if it will come with the Bumper Dumper and a gin and tonic in the game.

CoD is dead to me.

I'm more excited for this:

Shit you get the genji skin this week. I might have to break down and play this stupid game for like a hour. Too into Overwatch to pass up some skins that would take forever to get normally.

It is for me since I just bought my first XB1 this month, so better deals in the past are irrelevant to me. And the Forza games is basically why I bought the system. Right now used copies of these games go as low as $16 for FH2 and $35 for FM6 on Amazon, and trade value at a place like GS is still good without any promos or stealth bumps.
yeah im go ahead and buy it the only racing game i have is need for speed an mine as well get the dlc too.

The co-op mode is an all new horror campaign. Only showed a teaser image (at the spoiler) - more at E3, obviously.

I liked Prometheus. Then again, I went into it completely blind, having not seen a trailer or even the original Alien films.

If I were to foolishly jump into a massive game that I know I will never finish because all I really want to do is play MLB The Show and Forza Horizon 3, which one should it be?
Fallout 4
Final Fantasy XV
Persona 5
Skyrim Special Edition
The Witcher 3
It pains me to say this because I generally love Fallout, but I feel like that's the game that's easiest to lose interest in on yur list. Everytime I think about playing it, I think of all the stupid settlement babysitting and inventory crap and decide not to.

Skyrim wouldn't be a bad choice...simply stick with the main story, which isn't that long, then go on and do as much side stuff as you want. Then if you lose interest, you at least "beat" the game. FF might not be a bad option based on what GGP said. Witcher 3 is fantastic but absorbing.

I know we'll have to wait for a bit, but I'd love to see some actual in game footage of the game being played, not cinematics. Also, I'm not really excited about playing WWII again. Of course the game will sell a bunch of copies and that's good, but I'm not sure if it's for me personally.

Final Fantasy is actually possible to beat while playing those other games. I don't think you'll enjoy skyrim, witcher, or fallout 4 by playing in very small portions. I know nothing about persona 5, bit I'm assuming it's long as fuck.

FFXV can be finished in ~15 hours if you rush the story, or you can spen 50+ hours in the first 1/3 of the game doing bounties and side missions. I think the other games on your list, it's easier to get lost and stay lost.

I'd say Fallout 4. You can never truly "finish" the game. There's always some place to explore and a new settlement to build. It'd be a shame if you started up something as epic as The Witcher 3 and never finished the story. If you really, really wanted to finish it, and I mean do EVERYTHING, including all achievements, youre looking at something close to 250-300 hours, possibly more.

It depends what you want in your game.

Final Fantasy XV I've never played outside of the demo but I heard a lot of mixed impressions. My gut impressions from the demo is It's basically Square's take on a open world game featuring the backstreet boys. I read a lot of people finishing it in 40ish hours which seems awfully fast for a open world game.

Fallout 4 is basically Skyrim with Guns ;)

Skyrim is Fallout 4 with magic and swords ;)

Fallout 4 is worst in almost every way compared to New Vegas except for combat and graphics. The combat in Fallout 4 is quite good, and while the graphics are not spectacular for a current game they suffice. I was done with a majority of the game closing in on one hundred hours I believe.

Skyrim is still the poster boy for open world RPGS. Every open world game basically has to play like it/have the content to even compare. It was my favorite open world RPG till Witcher 3 came out, and the only other game to compete with it for me is probably Breath of the Wild. Either way your looking at 200+ hours to do most of everything. Maybe even more then that. Skyrim is by far the longest game in the list for me.

Persona 5 from my 40+ hours with it (which is about 1/3rd the way through btw) is excellent in story, combat and visuals (extremely stylish for a PS3 game) and is my personal GOTY so far just ahead of Zelda. It's a mix between a dating sim/pokemon/RPG/visual novel. Your going to want to play it consistently though otherwise you'll probably get lost story wise. I play it every Sunday/Monday to get about 13+ hours a week, and do my XBox gaming on my other days. 120 hours seems to be the standard to finish the main story and filler seems quite minimal.

The Witcher 3 is arguably the best open world game I've ever played. It's hard to put into words just how amazing the game is. It's only flaw is getting used to the combat, especially if your only playing the game here and there. I spent over 100+ hours in the game and haven't touched the DLC yet (going to beat later in the year hopefully). So factoring in DLC probably 150+ hours of time spent on the game.

tdlr:

Get Witcher 3 or Skyrim. If you don't like swords and stuff then get Fallout 4 cuz it has guns.

Persona 5 for waifus and story.

How long to beat averages main:extra:

The Witcher 3 101 (another 42 hours for the DLC)

Persona 5 104 hours

Skyrim 138 hours (adding in the DLC since it's included with all current gen versions)

Fallout 4 77 hours (another 30+ hours if you add the DLC)

Oh last edit. You should consider the prices as well. Witcher 3 was actually $25 recently for the GOTY edition which included all the DLC so you just missed that. Fallout 4 was $55 multiple times for the complete edition with all the DLC. Skyrim was $40 recently though it was $30 during the black friday sales. Final Fantasy cheapest was $36. Persona 5 is too new and hasn't been on sale outside of the Prime/GCU 20% off.

Thanks for the input everyone! I already own all of them (not to mention hundreds more 8-20 hour games in the ol' backlog) and figured I should work on one of the bigger ones. Of course as soon as I ask we get that awesome as fuck looking FH3 expansion lol

That coop for cod:ww2 better be fun and good and I mean it. Last cod game I ever touched was cod 4 and I only liked the single player. I hate multiplayer in all cod games. Twitch running headless chickens they all are in multi-player.

Dammit, I have to like this, I love that movie. "Check, please!"

-----

"Or just stay on the Prometheus hate train cause it's better to fit in than think."

This line of thinking always puzzles me. People that think that something (in this case, the movie) is trash are just "stupid" and "don't get it"? Nope, sorry. I'm glad you like the movie, though :)

Don't worry, though, there are things you hate that we like, so it evens out.

I saw this before and passed because I don't really play Genji, but I may have to make some battlenet friends for that D.Va skin. Anyone want to group up and just lose games? My computer couldn't run it when I tried last year, but maybe if I turn all the settings to mud I can at least "participate."

Anyone feel free to add me for the Overwatch skins. I can't play a ton this week because of finals but I'll be totally free for the rest of the event after Tuesday.

Battletag: Whistle#11212

Haven't played CoD in forever, but damn this looks like it has potential. The coop will probably suck though. Was never a fan of zombie mode and judging by the photo they're gonna do something similar.

IMO the Alien movies really depends on your age range and when you watched them. For example, when I first saw Alien as a child...OMG wow. As an adult (who has now seen countless other movies) ehhh, it's a "classic". Prometheus, as an adult, was very entertaining to me and gave backstory.

Now...just finished Big Little Lies. Pretty good 7 episode one and done series. And naked Nicole Kidman too!

And yes hell yes on the FH3 expansion

I don't know, I think Alien holds up extremely well, especially for a sci-movie from the late 70s. It's just being a horror movie means it doesn't have the same factors that make a movie like Aliens or Terminator 2 so re-watchable.

I just got into Overwatch so looks like I'll have to sign up for HotS. Is the Genji stuff still going on or is it on the D.Va week already? I'll sign up later tonight and post my username here.

Prometheus talk: I'm a huge alien fan and thought it was decent, it wasn't awful but I didn't like it as much as the original 2. If you want to watch a movie about an alien that isn't great, watch Life. It's basically Alien and Gravity combined. Looking forward to see where they go with the new Alien movie.

Genji is available the whole time. Each week opens up new rewards but you have to earn each in order so they stay up the whole time.

What I like about Prometheus is that if you hate it, you can just ignore it. It doesn't make old characters dance around on screen for nostalgia sake, it's its own thing. I feel similarly about Rogue One, it adds to the lore but is completely ignoreable if you don't care for it. I'd rather have 5 more films like Rogue One with periphery stories and new characters rather than a Han Solo origin film.

People are spoiled by modern films which rush the plots, try to keep you constantly entertained, employ cheap scares, etc. A lot of films from the 1970s haven't aged well at all, but Alien isn't one of them. It's true if you've already seen Aliens and other films in the franchise, the suspense of the original film is lost. But seeing that movie for the first time and having no idea what the xenomorph is? Nothing like it.

Few films have ever produced that level of anxiety and terror without just being gore-porn, which is what a lot of modern horror has devolved into in place of intriguing plots. I'd recommend 'It Follows' as a modern film which is pretty fucking scary b/c of the unknown with minimal gross-out gore. I'm not anti-gore, but lots of blood does not a scary film make.
