Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Aren't these phones like $500-600, and the Iphone can't use SD cards at all right? Not really a great comparison.

I agree that more storage is pretty much needed in this age, but unless the account system is good, it has been pretty risky to buy digital Nintendo stuff since they started offering it with the Wii.
How about an Nvidia Shield K1 Tablet. $199.99. Larger screen. No memory included (takes sd card) and no dock.

$215.94 with 64GB card.

https://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-SHIELD-K1-Tablet-Black/dp/B01N63YF1R?th=1

So price doesn't seem that horrible when compared with a tablet. However it is a hybrid system which is also a console. Compared to a XBox One or PS4 you get a lot less hardware with the Switch. 500GB of storage and usually a game for the same price. Free 2nd controller currently with PS4 and $280 for the XBox One at BB.

I think it will do about as well as the Wii-U. Nintendo fans will be all in. Problem is really the games. What games can people buy holiday 2017? If they have a 5 or 6 decent 1st party Switch titles (and not just Wii U games) they could do well. If not they probably wont.

Guess we will see how it works out.

I think the handheld feature both hinders and helps it. It definitely is the reason we aren't getting decent storage and some of the other negative aspects. But as a handheld, it blows literally everything else out of the water. If the rumor of Pokemon Stars is true, that alone will push a LOT of sales. Hell, the 3DS was near $300 at launch.

If they finally retire the 3DS within a year or so and all handheld devs and games move here that will be a huge boost in the amount of good games and could solve the classic first-party drought.

Specs-wise I think the price is fair enough for what you get. The internals are closest to the Nvidia Shield based on what I've seen around, plus all the other nonsense Nintendo added. It's all the accessories being so high that could really hurt it, as EIGHTY dollars for a second set of Joy-Cons (not even including the connector piece) is going to scare away a lot of potential casual family buyers. $70 for the Pro controller is pretty nuts to me, especially since the default controller doesn't have a real d-pad.

The Switch will be crap because the games library will be crap.  Just like Nintendo consoles have been since the N64.  There is no mystery in this.  Moving hardware out of initial hype is fine briefly, but you then have to sell games to keep it going, and Nintendo fails miserably on that one.  This is where the Wii and Wii U failed so hard.  Nobody then wanted to buy and play any games, because the games on the other consoles are just so much better at this point.  So devs and publishers stopped making/releasing as many games for it to focus on the other consoles where people DO buy games, and then it's just a death spiral...

Put your money into something else so Nintendo can either a.) fail and go software-only like SEGA, or b.) wise up and get a games library comparable to MS and Sony.

Either way, there's so little to nothing in Nintendo's ecosystem that they can hype anything they want about it, but it won't change the reality.  Especially since they're now competing with themselves on the mobile market (the 3DS with the Switch).  Genius move there.  Take your one platform that's done OK, and compromise it.  *shakes head*

If I were to delete Forza Horizon, Rally Expansion and all the DLC, I should still be able to redownload it anytime I want right?

I'm on the 360.

While there have been slumps like the last year of the Wii U's death, I think Nintendo is at least as good if not better at putting out quality 1st party games as the competition, but have almost zero third-party support, which is realistically where the majority of gamers focus. Though Sony has done a great job this generation getting third-party exclusives, though partially due to their lead and Japanese roots. The lack of same day releases of so many big games, compounded by the lack of social interaction that is vital to the other systems, and the power gap for 2 generations have just alienated them for casual CoD-only gamers and their money.

They just do everything so different that it's hard to even compare them to MS or Sony. Even though they are distantly in third place, Nintendo has more money in the bank than Sony, who have their hands spinning a LOT more plates, so it's hard to fault a lot of their bizarre choices when you really get down to it.

Yeah but it's a bit of a pain as you either have to go through your likely gigantic purchase history or queue them up through your browser.

Thought I'd mention that the Switch is actually using the X1 chipset used in the Shield TV not the K1 from the Tablet.

I have a Shield TV and it's a great little machine, especially for streaming, and is also $199. Is good for PC streaming too. And has some newish exclusives (for Android) games like The Talos Principle.

Suppose the chip was a decent choice for the Switch being a handheld/console combo. I'm not sold on it though. In fact, I think I only paid $130 for my Shield TV in some lightning deal with an extra controller on Amazon.

Still obviously not my main console for gaming.

No offense to the one guy defending the Nintendo press conference but DAMN. If that wasn't the death knell for Nintendo as a hardware manufacturer I don't know what is.

Worst.translators.ever

Except for that EA guy translating into Japanese, he wasn't the worst.

So I've been thinking about getting Stardew Valley with so many positive reviews and accolades for it, but still on the fence as I'm not necessarily into farming sims or things like Harvest Moon. Sounds like there's quite a bit more to it though and might add some variety to my gaming repertoire.

Thoughts?

^^ ready to be let down? Can't be much worse than Infinite Warfare I suppose.

I barely touched IW, I literally spent that money for Modern Warfare Remastered alone. Got the 1000G and spent a lot of time in the mp. I will play IW campaign soon though, too much people telling how good it is

I had the same thoughts but decided to put the same amount of money into Shovel Knight and wait until Stardew Valley goes on sale for $10 or less. Even though I still might not bite then because I have a gut feeling I will absolutely loathe it since I've hated every other game like it that I've tried lol.

Im ready

Nintendo signed them on for the Switch? It might have a shot after all!

Can you imagine how ape shit the Internet would've gone if that flipped over to 2018? Major Nelson thinks things are a PITA now ...

I'll be honest, all these 1-2 Switch gifs I keep seeing are selling me on the game more than the actual presentation.

Totally disagree. Nintendo has released plenty of terrible first party games, they are far from the masterful games developers that the diehard Nintendo fans claim they are. What about games like Star Fox Zero, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, Wii Sports U, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Mario Tennis, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Mario Party 10, etc? Nintendo has lost touch with what gamers really want, they've been out of touch for many years, and with the Switch announcement, that doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.

Doesn't help that so much of what they're doing is rehashes that are also mediocre at best. Rainbow Curse was pretty decent at least, better than the rest of that list that was just recycled and eh.

I'd have to disagree. I have 11 Picross games on my 3DS, which is better than almost everything else out there.

You leave Kirby and the Rainbow Curse out of this! Game was a blast, got 100% on it too!

Not sure how long they've been there, but the Gears 4 season pass drop is up.
Not sure if people knew this, but they put the card packs online as well.

https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/cards/my-packs

Can open packs, scrap cards, buy more. Things got a bit dangerous with those 99 cent Gearsmas packs over the holidays. Needed just 1 final Boomshot skin ... maybe this pack will do it ... maybe this one. Never got it. Maybe later this year.

Looks like the Gears 4 web server cards page got knocked offline.  I was able to open my packs, though it popped up a bunch of errors.  There was a dialog that said there was an error retrieving the cards and said to reload the page - I think I might've lost a pack by doing that.  Every other time it popped up (which was frequent), I just closed out the dialog and things seemed fine.  Only character I pulled was the V-Day medic.  Got 2 legendary cards, Lightning Lancer and either Enforcer or Embar.

In other news, it looks like the various Madden bundles will go on sale on date night (those are usually reserved for the week of the Super Bowl), and the PvZ GW2 Festive Edition bundles will either have a sale or get delisted the week after.  Their web marketplace entries indicate the EA Access discounts will be ending in 3 and 10 days respectively.

The biggest reason first party Nintendo games score so well is that there's no comparable competition on their own systems. That said I will always play a Mario or Zelda game, religious core from my childhood lol.

Those are very niche games that only appeal to a small audience. And they don't even rate that well. I guess they're fine if you like the genre, but they're certainly nothing to get excited about. Are you saying that the Picross games are better than anything else on the market? It's fine to be enthusiastic about a line of games, but they certainly aren't masterpieces by any means.

I didn't say they only make gold but there are a ton of great 1st party on the Wii U. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad, Fatal Frame, Rainbow Curse isn't trash like most of that other stuff, Mario Kart 8, the Zelda HD ports, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Paper Mario, Pikmin 3, Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario 3D World, Smash Bros, Mario Maker. Plus stuff like Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2.

Nintendo is often bad about listening to the exact wants of the community, but they often still deliver great stuff. I think Zelda and Mario Odyessy are both bright beacons of "we're trying", as were things like Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade.

Opened 20 packs, got the wackest character (Red Tiger Shepherd) and a bunch of duplicate skins. Reallllly wanted Anya to drop so I could save my scrap.
Lol, I got that same Red Tiger Shepherd, only character skin I got. I was really hoping for V-Day Sam, guess I'll just spend the next three months building up the scrap. :/ Did get some pretty decent weapon skins though.

They are masterpieces and among the best puzzle games around. They're up there with The Witness, Portal, The Swapper, Tetris, Puyo Puyo, etc.
