Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Space Harrier is also inside Yakuza O in the Sega arcade, actually played for a few minutes the other day

I also remember the GI Joe game which was a big ripoff of Space Harrier

Maybe we should plan a Galloping Ghost meetup for those near Chicago. They have every classic arcade game I've ever heard of and several that weren't even released publicly (Primal Rage 2 for example).

I love playing Necrodancer as Bard. The others are just way too difficult for me at the moment. I feel like Bard is cheating though.

I loved Time Killers. It was so satisfying to cut off a limb and watch them try to fight without an arm or a leg.

Does anyone remember an arcade game that was like a side scrolling foot race with like trolls or something?  I know it sounds crazy, but I distinctly remember playing this game, but cannot find the title or essentially anything about it online.  I'm sure I'm just not searching for the right thing.  It's been driving me crazy.

Does anyone have info on the winter sale that was talked about a couple days ago? Is it a an actual thing that's happening or just something that's happened in the past we're speculating will happen again? A basic search just brought up the year end count down sale.

I have credit to burn and don't know if I should hold off or preorder south park (even with the delay), mass effect (without playing the other three) or both.
There was an "Ultimate Game Sale" in February in 2014 (2/18 - 2/24) and 2015 (2/17 - 2/22). Those years, the Spring Sale was in early April (8th to 14th in 2014; 7th to 13th in 2015). Last year, there was no big general sale in February, though there were a few publisher sales with a large number of games. The Spring Sale was 3/22 - 3/28, which may have been earlier to combine the Feb UGS and the April Spring Sale.

best arcade games ever are Mortal Kombat 2 and 3

the only arcade games i ever saw that had at least 2 of each game, plus long lines of people waiting to play it and tons of others just standing there watching

Forgive me if this was covered already and I missed it, but I think we maybe now know why MS killed the Snap feature on X1, and its future.

https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/02/08/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-15031-pc/

It looks like MS is preparing a PIP-ish feature for Windows called "Compact Overlay" and I would imagine they'll implement that to the X1 instead, in efforts to make the two the same as possible.

So maybe the idea isn't dead for X1.
Xbox One has pip, but apps have to be updated for it. Beam and achievement apps are the two I know have it already

Try Reddit.com/r/tipofmyjoystick as that's the purpose of the entire subreddit. Help other gamers remember a title of a certain game using whatever details the OP can provide.

For example, 10-15 years somebody will ask for the legendary twin stick adventure of two boys with insanely good storytelling, puzzles and everything you could ever want in a video game. Another user would then get on to identify that as Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, a true classic.

Ive been there probably half a dozen times now. I live literally five minutes from it. They keep expanding and getting more and more stuff. Definitely worth checking out. Its $20 to get it and EVERYTHING is on free play. You can also come and go as you please throughout the whole day. :)

I've got For Honor pre-ordered. I had cancelled my pre-order, but decided to order again when they did the rewards promo for pre-ordering 3 games. Hoping the single player is really good, and will also try to spend some time in MP if I have some friends playing

Checked out their site and it looks awesome. Like 577 games!

I just got around to doing this month's XBL Rewards survey, and I want to smack the shit out of whoever thought making yes or no questions have a rating range from 1 to 5 was a good idea.

Better play the campaign on Realistic difficulty if you want any kind of value out of it. The campaign is supposedly 8-10 hours long and the majority of the achievements are MP related.
I work 40-50 hours a week, and have two kids, 8-10 hours is the perfect length of a campaign for me

And while achievements are a fun addition they don't add any more gameplay for me. I'm not gonna replay a game just for achievements

Not trying to tell you what to do with your money, but if that's the case, why spend that much for some shit you're just gonna put down after a handful of hours? Get a Gamefly account and rent them shits. Personally, if I spend $60 or more for a game, I'm damn sure gonna get 100% of the achievements or else I'll feel like I just wasted my dough.

Any of you gangstas in here use a soundbar for gaming? If so, which model do you suggest
Got a similar question, anyone pick up the touted Xbox Polk sponsored Soundbar? I myself went with a great headset setup, as I typically play majority of the time at night, and I personally feel you get a better gaming experience that way over a booming soundbar.
The living room has a Sony soundbar with sub, good for movies and sports.

Why do people always follow up the statement "I'm not trying to tell you how to spend your money" by telling you how to spend your money? I got the credit at 20% off, then I get 10% back in rewards, and another $5 as one of the games in the promo.

Gamefly is awful for me really, games take forever to get here and get back to their centers, even though there's one in PA, which isn't too far. I just cancelled my sub for like the millionth time.

If I enjoy the game, $48 for 10-15 hours enjoyment is worth is to me. If I went through all the hassle of trying to get all the achievements, which in most cases ruins the fun of the game I'd feel like I wasted my time, which is a lot more valuable than my money at this point in my life.

I think it's worth noting, as well, that everyone has different expectations for return on their money. I rarely pay over $30 for a game. Most of the games in my backlog, I picked up for under $15. I play until I'm bored and move on. I stopped giving a crap about how many achievements I get in a game. I play until I don't want to play anymore.

Right now, with all the crap in my backlog, I'm addicted to Fallout Shelter.

I get where you're coming from on all aspects. It's important to note that money and time don't have the same value to each person, too.

I wholeheartedly agree about achievement chasing. I do a little of it, but one of the best things I ever did was free myself of the obligation to get all of the achievements that were in reach in my games, or even to finish campaigns if I wasn't interested in them. I'd rather admit I made a mistake and move on than compound my mistake by spending another 10 hours on a game I don't like.

I'm glad people still support shorter campaigns. I'm always worried that people will stop and then every game will have a ridiculously long story that's redundant and unnecessary. I don't want to play a 30-hour Gears campaign EVER.

You are doing it right. Games area terrible value at $60, especially digital. You buy them, they are broken. You get a frustrating experience in some cases. Plus they drop in value to under half in just a couple months or in some cases weeks. If you just wait, not only do you get them for cheaper which allows everyone to buy more, you get them in a more complete and better state. I understand wanting to play hot new releases, but it is idiotic in a lot of ways. Don't buy into the hype, just wait. Play games you already own. Everyone here owns something they can play.

Does anybody here use Gamefly to rent? I've been thinking about using it because I'm getting tired of the non existent digital sales and I typically beat a game I buy in two to three days anyways.

Yeah, I've rented a few times from them. As long as you think you'll beat in the time you have than it's alright. If not the $7 or so for a 5 day rental at my local places is better in theory, though I haven't rented anything in a while now.

I tried it a few times. It took forever for them to receive and ship and I always seemed to get the 150th game on my list because all the hot games were out.

This has always been my experience as well. In theory it seems like it should be an awesome service, it just doesn't deliver for me

if you arent going for 5.1 then a nice pair of headphones is your best bet, unless you are going to be using the soundbar with your family.

I have a receiver I got on sale for 150, and speakers I found at various thrift shops of the years :D (2x klipsch sf 2, 2 70's era sansui, and a klipsch center speaker, with a polk sub.) sounds great and I don't ever use my headset anymore because I want to hear my system. probably need to get some open ear phones so I can chat and still enjoy it.

Gamefly is alright, it's hard to get new releases, but if there are a bunch of older games you want to play, and multiple systems, then it's great. You have to get the 2 games per month tho, from my experience, because you lose like 10 days shipping game back/and receiving new game. So not worth it, but if you have a good system going then it's better.

I tend to wait until games get under 25 before I buy them, so it wasn't too good for me, I prefer to hit deals beat the game then sell it on ebay.

Ok. Beat RE7 yesterday and again today. Got a few achievements I missed on my first playthrough but still couldn't get one for the stupid bobbleheads (missed two).

Also reduced playtime from 10 hours 28 minutes to 6 hours 8 minutes. However, I doubt I'll ever go for the beat the game under 4 hours achievement because I know I'm going to try and collect all bobbleheads and coins, again.

Still not sold on it being a "proper" RE game as it borrowed too much from Outlast and many chessy horror movies set in a God forsaken small town in the south featuring a family of inbred cannibals (though the Bakers don't seem to be into inbreeding).

I'll play the game again once the "Not a Hero" free DLC drops to know if THAT guy is really who he claims to be.

I don't think it's fair to tell someone there's a right or wrong way to buy games. You may not give a rat's ass about having new releases right away, but you don't determine what value a game has to someone else. Of course it always makes more sense financially to buy games later on. You know what makes even more financial sense? Not buying games at all. It's a hobby. We all like deals but it's silly to say that your way of going about it is *the* right way for everyone, regardless of their financial situation, lifestyle, etc.

Is there around the Monkey Island: 2E problem?  It should be a game with gold but it continues to show up as $9.99.  I was able to download the others for this month without an issue.
