Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Man MS could you at least put the X1 version of FH2 on sale? If you can make the 360 version $9 I would happily pay $15 for the X1 version.

After just buying Deadpool, Instant Indie Hits, and NASCAR Heat Evolution, I need to spend $20 more in the next 12 hours to hit the $100 threshold to get another XBL rewards star.

Any suggestions?
If you have friends or relatives that come over to your home to play games then I'd say go for any of the Jackbox packs.

Strong use of multiquote and digitized boobies? Post of the year, and it's only Feb!

Too bad it's missing the trifecta of bare feet in the foreground...could have been the stuff of legends.
That's what happens when I'm like 200 posts behind and actually bother to read all of it.

I don't have nicely manicured girl feet if that's what you're getting at.

I think it was Bobby that posted about Kilgore being the current free rotating character. Thank you! I like using him, but will probably wait until his price drops down to $5 later this year. I liked using him so much I even wrote some impressions of him for my buddy's new website. Normally I don't like zoning, but he makes zoning fun by being somewhat easier to use than others in the game. I dominated at first in player matches, but was getting my ass kicked once the higher ranks started showing up. Even when I was losing, I was still having fun.

Shadow of War looks like a must buy for me this time around. Hopefully they got a bigger budget and put that money into making the game world larger. Mordor felt very small by the end of the game. The trailer makes it look like we might get to visit some iconic locations.

So is Mirror's Edge Catalyst any good? I enjoyed the first one, even the shooting parts didn't bother me too much. Still it was all that first person running and jumping that made it good. I'm a little concerned because this title dropped in price so quickly it seems. 8 bucks isn't too bad but I'm contemplating putting that into something else like Inside or Firewatch.

For the need for speed bundle is it correct that nfs requires always online? It was never patched out? Nfs rivals though is offline if I want correct? Might just want for nfs rivals to go on sale by itself if this is how it works.
The latest NFS game requires online but you can get around it in Rivals. I've played Rivals online and it's a while different experience. All drive and autolog are fun but yeah in NFS (2015) you have to be online to play it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/2fub0l/how_do_i_play_need_for_speed_rivals_in_offline/

Oh almost forgot the latest Forzathon is super easy, grab a Subaru and win races.

Eh, good isn't the word I would use. I mean there's moments where it is really good and nails that focus and pace of the first game and you're like this is awesome and I need more. The problem is all the open world absolute garbage in between those set piece missions. The world is just empty of what feels like anything meaningful and you're far too often forced to make these long treks across it for no real reason. It's one of those things where you can clearly see, especially in the areas of the world that are later in the game, where they wanted to do more with it but had to drastically cut with all the last minute delays. The sort of GTA wanted mechanics are really, really bad too and made worse by the world design. Almost every escape was made way too long by an inability to go where you think you're going to be able to go or running in to any of the countless dead ends. Then you can't escape the little search radius so you get to try and escape all over again or fall to your death trying to nudge yourself out as far as you can hoping to get outside it.

All that being said, is there $8 of fun to be had despite some really poor design choices and a poor to bad story? Absolutely, I would just stick to the story and non open world missions as much as possible. They just got way too ambitious with the open world design and completely failed to deliver on it. It's just unfortunate that the good bits, which can get really good, are built around that open world.

the gift and the curse of open world games. Devs have so much freedom to make these gigantic games but they often feel empty and can overwhelm some people. That's why when I see some folks clamoring for the new Middle Earth game to have a bigger map, I'm secretly hoping they keep the map the same size.

What do you get for the xbl rewards star? I just signed up for myvip and I'm $20 away from my first star. I'm going to hit the target with this week's sale but 1% discount or whatever is not that exciting.

Nah, if he's playing a bunch of smaller games with 5+ hour completion times then it's not hard to see him getting 20K in one month. There's a ton of them on the One.
Yep, that's exactly what it is. A little bit of planning, a decent backlog and about 2 hours a night of gaming with some extra on the weekends. It helps there have been some decent, easy games on sale as of late(Toby, Last Station, Dear Esther, Wheels of Aurelia, Among the Sleep, etch.)

Thought I spent over $100 for the myvip thing, then I was reading the terms and it said before tax, so now I am under about $5.
Pick up unravel this week. Problem solved.

So someone want ti tell me how this myvip thing works exactly? It's bad enough us Canadians aren't eligible for the bing cashback rewards.

Actually just went through and saw that I had not bought Pac-man 256, so I bought that.

Taken from the Xbox page:

MyVIP is an exclusive feature of Xbox Live Rewards that gives members a certain percentage back in Rewards Credits for monthly purchases made in the Xbox Store.
For every $10 you spend during the month on eligible items in the Xbox Store, you'll earn Reward Credits based on your current MyVIP Star Rank.

Also, I know how you feel about the bing rewards, Australia doesn't get it either.

Well, Stranger of Sword City is still $10.12 and is listed as such in Major Nelson's post. I think we'll have that price for the full week. Gives me time to put off making a decision.

All three Alien Breed games for $3.72 is pretty enticing in case they ever go BC. All three got decent reviews for what they are and could be fun. Anyone have any experience with the series?

Yeah, if you took all the hours I sunk into games that aren't great for gamerscore or take forever to complete and redistributed them into better games for achievements, I could probably be at about 300,000 instead of my 150K-ish. You still have to play very consistently, though. Over the years I've had spells where I barely play and I'm sure Loinsteak hasn't had that, or has at least minimized it.

Well that's good to hear. Glad you're not a vegetable lol

I think I just realized some bad news about the buy a movie for $5 and get a $5 Microsoft store code back deal.  The deal seemed pretty clear that you would get a Microsoft store giftcard, but the link they gave to redeem a code just redeemed as a $5 Xbox/Windows code that has a short term expiration.  The wording of the program was a Microsoft store gift card that I could then use to purchase a Xbox credit that wouldn't have an expiration (or, of course, I could buy whatever else I wanted from the Microsoft store).  That's pretty dumb.  Did anyone get anything different?  Or does anyone know how to use the code they send differently?

Jungle Boogie – Kool & the Gang

My Iron Lung – Radiohead

Weird Science – Oingo Boingo

Those three singles are also on sale for Rock Band 4

Nice, even if I don't use the service it's cool that they are doing this. Wondering which publishers they can get on board
Yes this is the future of gaming. Subscription service like Netflix. I will probably already own most of these initial games but in the future I may participate in the program. Looking forward to see this for other consoles too.

Well I got a $5 GC from MS this morning. Unfortunately it was only one GC and I bought both movies at the same time. Guess I should give it give 7 day window before complaining.

It's probably safe to say EA is out, but if they can get most other publishers, this could be a really good thing. I'm really hoping it catches on and builds a solid library outside of mostly Microsoft-published games.

At least it doesn't sound like a streaming program. Sounds potentially solid, though obviously it won't have EA games, but this is far from the first of its kind to try and make itself the future of gaming. Crappy broadband and data caps alone are enough to make this a hard sell for a lot of folks.

Subscription service will be good for newcomers but going to be hard to entice people that have been buying games all along. You'd have to stop buying games for who knows how long to get to a point where it would be worthwhile.

Yup. I likely won't be interested for a long time, until the library builds up with more games that I've never touched.

Plus, I wonder how this subscription service will affect the free Games with Gold in the future. Games that they previously may have thrown into GwG might be held back to increase subscriptions to this new service. We might see more indie titles in GwG.

I think this is also a sign that EA Access is working. MS must've ran the numbers, seen the success, and realized they could do a similar subscription service.

Well, based upon the surprisingly detailed info on Major's blog, there are two major strikes against it vs. EA Access already. One is the price: $9.99 per month vs. EA Access' regular price of $4.99 per month. The other is that games will cycle out as new ones cycle in, whereas every game in the Access vault has remained there permanently so far.

Other info for those who don't want to click: the games will be downloaded to your console like with EA Access and you'll also get discounts on "all Xbox One games in the catalog and related add-ons" of an unspecified amount.

For me, my interest will directly be related to the price (I know it's $10 a month, but hopefully there will be a much lower annual price and sales to be found now and then like with XBL Gold) and the selection. One thing that's cool about EA Access is that we generally know when certain games will go into the vault. If it's done more randomly with the Xbox Game Pass, I'll be less interested. Plus, like most of you, I already have a YUUUGE backlog.

I'm glad they're doing this, though. If nothing else, the success of EA Access shows that the model works. If subscriptions are slow, MS will know that it's either because the price is too high, the selection isn't good enough, or a combo of both instead of just assuming gamers don't want this type of service.

Looks like 2K, 505, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Deep Silver and WB are the biggest so far. I wonder if Ubisoft will do their own one day. At this point I'd be surprised if they didn't.

Is Microsoft no longer doing the Late Winter Blowout sales?
Last year the February sale was replaced by a big sale in March, so there's hope yet.

This Game Pass idea is awesome. Phil and the team continue to innovate.

(Not for me though, as I own 9 million games already. But excellent for new XB1 owners, or those on a budget.)

Game Pass could be a game changer... though it occurs to me, the $9.99 price sounds amazing, but when you're paying it on top of EA Access and Xbox Live Gold, it adds up.

Still, this is a big deal.

Lol signed up for the Xbox Game Pass Alpha Preview and have literally every single game already installed. I have a problem. I imagine the final catalog will be much larger.

EDIT: Nope! I found ONE that I didn't own.. Dark Void. Which I haven't heard good things about.

It works for people who prefer to play games in one sitting. For me, I sometimes will finish games years later and I am pretty sure they would not keep those same games in the program that long, but yeah...maybe this would work even for me if say I subbed for a couple months after tax season and just played two or three games completely (or to the point I never wanted to play them again).

What kind of games are you seeing included so far? Anything good, or mostly throwaway titles?

Good eye. I think a lot of people will completely miss this point. What if there's a game that you and a bunch of friends are playing, then suddenly the game cycles out and you can no longer play it? I don't like the cycling out idea. EA's model is better.

It's only EA's "model" because their service is specifically for one publisher. Microsoft will be making licensing deals with many different publishers and some will expire over time. Just like movies on Netflix.

Yeah, I liked the idea until I got to the cycling part.  That kills it for me, especially with no guarantee of how long they will remain before leaving.

Well, if it's like GwG, once you download it, you can keep it unless you missed it. It doesn't disappear unless you stop subbing.

The PSPlus games are like that too.

I suspect this program will follow suit.

Reading their FAQ, which is still kind of useless, it sounds like you only miss the titles if you forget to download them. If you download them, they won't be affected by the rotation.

So it's a good way for new Xbox gamers who have not have GwG since the beginning. Seems like a rip-off for us CAGs.
