Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

sorry if someone posted this already im at work :/
And this does not record the "Good Will" that so many xbox users feel knowing they didn't lose everything they invested in the old platform. It also does not reflect the fact that by implementing back compat many hold outs moved to the new platform supporting the sales of the console itself. I'm betting day one back compat for the Scorpio. Sunday will tell.

Even if the data were true (It's not as dismissed multiple times, It's a small survey and does not take into fact the majority. Not to mention it was before BO2 went BC so the % would be way up now. Though Sony GAF is all over it) the work has already been done by MS. Right now games just have to go through testing and get approved by the publishers, so MS mainly just has to mainly test the games which can't be too expensive to pay some game testers to look for bugs. I'd imagine whatever team they have for the legality/contract lookers cost more, but your talking a small amount of money for extra DLC/Games on Demand revenue that will most likely eclipse it.

The bottom line is MS is providing a good will service and trying to lure the rest of the 360 owners who did not purchase a XBox One yet. There are still 50+ million people who bought a 360 that don't own a XBox One.

Some people have already completed some of the Inconceivable and Ironman achievements in the new Gears 4 Horde DLC, making it the top scoring game on TA.  The DLC itself would be the 3rd highest scorer behind Gears 4 and Friday the 13th.  Wish I still had that kind of time.

Last time a game dropped $20 in two days or so was Homefront on the 360. I was working retail (still am) and remember the day the game dropped that much in just hours. I believe the game also dropped to $20 in less than a month.

Biggest bomb for me in history was Beyond Good and Evil for $10. I believe it was just two weeks after release and Circuit City dropped it to $10...but my memory is hazy in terms of how fast it was.

Landed a second job in my field of study for the summer. The gaming bender since the semester ended was fun while it lasted.

Congrats on beating Dark Void. That game gave me vertigo, and I had to stop playing it.
Yeah, the sheer verticality of looking straight up, taking cover under platforms, and shooting at robots made me a little dizzy at times too. Thankfully there aren't a ton of those sequences in the game, or else I might have put it down, too.

It won't last, values are super inflated right now.

Nobody on TA has done Ironman for the campaign yet, either.

I'm still predicting $599 for Scorpio though they may soften it with a game pack-in as another CAG suggested.  For the small Halo announcement, it could be Scorpio enhancements for Halo 5 and/or MCC.

Here's the music they'll be using for the reveal montage:

They already said BC is happening for Scorpio out the gate and the Scorpio's BC emulator will run 360 games even better.
I think this is the biggest problem that MS faces with the Scorpio still is, that people that frequent a gaming centric website still do not understand what it even is. This isn't a call out on you Sadpanda99, but people still seem to be confused or not know that everything you can do on your Xbox One or One S is going to be there from the start. I wonder how they will approach this in the messaging?

Here's the only problem I see with that logic, they either have to hit a lower price point to get the people not already in the "xbox eco-system" or more likely they are selling this to the hardcore Xbox user the same way they sell an elite controller that said $599 is going to be a really hard sell to even them. I saw people mentioning giving like 3 games like Forza Horizon, Gears, Halo 5 but that hardcore group is going to already have those games. My prediction is $499 October 20th with Crackdown 3 packed in.

I personally agree with the lower price points for Scorpio.  This is E3.  They want to and need to wow the crowd.  No matter how much they want to say Scorpio is a premium product (and it is), if they announce too high a price, then it will just turn into another media fiasco like when they first announced the XB1.  If they want to wow everyone, their messaging at E3 has to be that this is a premium product, here's all the whiz bang stuff it can do, here are some of the games with Scorpio support, and then end it with the kicker -- you can all get it at an accessible price.

Although I realize Scorpio is a way more thought-out product than the PS4 Pro, the Pro currently goes for $400 MSRP and has deals all the time below that price. I don't think MS can launch it's own version of a suped-up current-gen platform at 50% more and have it get the market response they want/need. Given the confusion about what exactly Scorpio is and what it's capable of, it doesn't matter how much more robust it is than the Pro, the average person will equate them as comparable upgrades to the platform.

I also think it would be a terrible idea to launch at a higher price than the original X1 ($499) since that price was prohibitive compared to the competition from Sony.

It would be cool if the Scorpio is $400 or even $449 but you are talking about a new SoC, a new cooling solution, new power supply(i think, can't confirm that but i thought i saw it), new form factor, switch from ddr3 to ddr5, etc.

I've been wrong plenty of times in my life but I just have a hard time seeing this launch for anything less than $500 at the rock bottom and even that seems low. I'll be pleased as punch if it launches lower though and will probably trade in my Gears of War 2 TB S model for it in that case.

While I tend to agree with you from a market perspective, it doesn't change the fact that Scorpio is 50% more powerful than a PS4 Pro. Hardware-wise, it is a monster. So the real question is what's the manufacturing cost of Scorpio, and how much of a loss is MS willing to take to make it price-attractive?

I agree with both sides of the discussion.  The Scorpio is a powerhouse and in theory should be expensive, but Xbox is trailing in install base and having the most powerful console ever as a loss leader could be a way to help Microsoft catch up to Sony.

I think there will be a limited time promotion, like the initial batch of 2TB Xbox One S.  Something like from launch to right before Black Friday, Scorpio will be $300 or $400 with a bunch of games, and/or one year of Xbox Live and/or Xbox Game Pass, or a 5 TB hard drive.  And in the process, the initial SKU might be hard to find or elusive, creating a Switch like hype for it.

I struggle to see the hype around Scorpio at all. The messaging so far is that it won't run anything you can't play on a vanilla One already, it'll just look better. Do they really think a large number of people will pay a premium price for that?

They apparently have done so for the PS4 Pro.

I mean let's be real. How much is thing REALLY going to cost MS to make? Using current inflated prices of parts that cost a fraction of that in reality means it's not out of the question for it to be less than you think since they would only be perceived as taking a hit but not really.

Anything over $499 will be console suicide in this day and age unless they pack a lot of stuff with it at a higher price.

Yeah, that's weird to me too. Though the Pro is cheaper compared to the hypothetical prices being thrown around in here. Not sure if PSVR has anything to do with those sales since it is advertised as working best with Pro. I didn't think too many of those were sold though.

I've had a PS4 and XB1 since launch and have 0 desire to drop a few hundred bucks for either of these updates. I also don't have a fancy 4k TV. It'd have to be a damn significant improvement to get me thinking about it.

you must not have been paying attention, last year they announced that is was geared towards the small hardcore group so they wont be making nearly as many as the other models plus the s is already the same/better than the pro and you can get it cheaper with less memory, the scorpio besides being closer to running vr, it should also be something with more win 10 integration in mind and the cheapest vr computer you can get is 500 so this will be around that or towards 600, if its more, than so what if its closer to a pc than ur just getting a probably cheaper gaming computer and with third parties should be releasing affordable vr this year should be great and hopefully the rumor why xbox isnt showing off vr this year is because they care about quality and believe vr should be wireless so its still developing

and microsoft shot back with the slim which spec wise is similiar even reducing production of the original since the slim will eventually be their base model while sony keeps putting out their original less spec model

Assassin's Creed: Origins is real.

And... no more Morrowind trade-in/scheming talk. Take that trash to the GS thread.

They're not going to catch up when they're about 30 million units behind. Sony would have to go out of business right now and it would still take Microsoft a few years to surpass them. Being willing to go in the red so much on every console is probably their easiest way to get a good start, but it's not great business when they're going against the original point of these devices in the first place (reasonably-priced components to make for a reasonably-price console, ignoring the other aspects of its design).

The Xbox One S is not more powerful than the PS4 Pro.

Very interesting analysis of Easter eggs in the Scorpio trailer, including the possibility that the release date is going to be October 13th.  However, if they name the damn thing the Xbox 10, I will facepalm so hard.

Most people want cheap consoles. It is going to be a hard sell at $400 even when a XBox One S or PS4 Slim will be $250 or less for the holidays. Sure some people will pay $400-$500 to have the most powerful console around that can do 4K. Most people though don't care. I can't see MS taking a huge bath on these and putting them out cheap enough that the average consumer is going to say ok I wasn't interested in a XBox One at launch for $500. People are price sensitive. I would imagine most parents will be like, Sorry junior pick between the XBox One S or the PS4 slim. You don't even have a 4K set in your bedroom you don't need a Scorpio for $150+ more.

I honestly believe much of it is bragging rights. And maybe in 2 years when they can redesign and shrink the price and bump up the specs to leap frog whatever Sony might do between then and now it will sell like well to the masses.

When I could get a XBox One without Kinect with some games for $299.99 I was interested.

Guess it will be interesting to see what MS does pricewise and how it sells. I think either way it is a good step forward for them.

I just don't see this (unless it is like $299) making up much ground. It is a high end product for those willing to pay. Those who went out and bought large 4K HDR sets and want the best console to go with it. That isn't the majority of console buyers.

$599 is definitely suicide on Scorpio. I'm thinking $499 but Spencer's comment about it being competitive makes me think less. I really don't think $499 is all that competitive when the competition is a minimum of $100 less. The majority of my customers seem to think that it's a totally new console as well, not just an upgraded Xbone, though I don't know if that's good or bad for sales.

If it's somehow $399 it could help gain back some ground, but I just don't see it being that low.

It would be incredibly stupid to price it at $599. I don't care what they've said about it being for hardcore gamers or whatever. If MS doesn't get back more of its market share, there may not be an Xbox division in a few years.

Say what you will but Sony is crushing it with exclusives and MS needs to swing things back in their direction. Probably will never take them over this gen (if there is another "generation"). But they need to get closer to them.

If it is anything over 399 they are dead in the water.

They are way behind and it won't matter to the normal person, how powerful it is. I mean they are screwed no matter what because Sony will just cut the pro by 50 to confuse people even more.

I haven't paid attention to sales numbers. Is the Pro really selling well? From this article below it doesn't seem like it was selling that well during Christmas. I can't remember if they had supply issues or not. If not the Slim outsold the Pro almost 6.6 to 1.

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2017/01/19/report-ps4-pro-sold-238000-units-us-last-month/
PS4 Pro accounts for about 20% of their PS4 sales since its launch, which is really good for a model that's regularly $100 to $150 more than the base model. I don't believe they produce a ton of units for it either, so there typically hasn't been a ton of stock just sitting around.

So the real question is what's the manufacturing cost of Scorpio, and how much of a loss is MS willing to take to make it price-attractive?
At a certain price-point, it then becomes an argument of value for the cost. In 2006, $500 for a PS3 which doubled as a Blu-ray player with a lot of media capabilities was a great value if you wanted Blu-ray, since standalone players cost upwards of $300 then. So for tech nuts, everything the Scorpio can do may be a good value for the cost at even $600 when compared to building a comparable PC, but it doesn't mean it's cheap/affordable/a good price.

I mean let's be real. How much is thing REALLY going to cost MS to make? Using current inflated prices of parts that cost a fraction of that in reality means it's not out of the question for it to be less than you think since they would only be perceived as taking a hit but not really.

It's not just parts, though. Manufacturing, advertising, distribution, and the 2ish years they've spend developing it typically means they want to make as much profit or take as small of a loss as possible. When launching a whole new system, taking losses is an investment on the platform which can be made up through software attachment and licensing. For this type of launch, I have no idea what that looks like. But even with pack-ins if its over $499, my previous comments seem relevant.

God I love this time of year.
G4, used to be TechTV, now a defunct Esquire, used to say "E3, The Super Bowl for nerds". Hell yeah, get pumped!

That said, from the makers of... worms?

I am actually interested in that.

Remember the number of people that said there was no chance that the Elite Controller could be a success? Look at any new phone release and the argument that they aren't comparable just doesn't hold up for me. This is pretty much a new Iphone or Samsung Galaxy model, just what consoles are turning into. Microsoft is no stranger to subsidizing a console purchase into an online contract either, should be interesting Sunday.

You must have confused the PS4 Pro with the Slim, the Pro (4.2 tflops) is much more powerful than the One S (1.4 tflops).
