Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

I think porting a remaster that is less than 1 year old is fine, although I don't think it should be $60. Especially since Nintendo has never had any games from the series on their systems, the port is fine and I think it's cool they are adding a few unique touches which don't really add or subtract from the gameplay.

A separate, additional PS4 release though, for VR? Insanity.
Skyrim for Switch isn't even the remastered SE. It does come with the dlc, zomg, but otherwise is a 6 year old game being marketed and priced like a new release.

Some googling leads me to believe Link is the only amiibo supported in Skrim. Booo!

As for the VR port, that's a sticky situation. With no knowledge of game development, it seems like making a version for VR would take a lot of work. It doesn't seem like something you could patch in to an existing game as dlc. If it's a standalone release, how do you justify charging less than the standard version? The only smart move I see would be announcing a price drop for the existing version and releasing the VR port at the current price.

It's gross to gouge consumers like this, and I think high texture ports should be debuted at $20-30. If we're talking a multi-generational leap, like FF7, that has to be built from the ground up and just has a story to follow, I can buy into charging like it's a new release.

I just realized that Skyrim VR on PS4 is a separate retail release for $60 and not a free update to the remaster. Are you fucking kidding me?
Same deal on PC, Doom VR is also an entirely separate purchase but at least it's only $30.

Why not just give a discount on it to people who own Skyrim Special Edition already?

$15 - Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition

$10 - Forza Horizon 3, Rainbow Six Seige, Dead Rising 4, Halo Wars 2, Gears 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider

I want to buy Halo Wars 2 Ultimate but since the new expansion isn't included I don't even want to touch that season pass. I guess it's still worth it if you are more interested in multiplayer or want Halo Wars 1 Definitive. As is I'm just going to buy the campaign missions separately.
Halo Wars 2 Ultimate is still worth the $15, even without the expac.

Gears 4, DR4 and FH3 are also easily worth $10.

If anyone here has access to those deals, I'd be willing to PayPal the money to you if you could get me Forza Horizon 3.
Same. I'd be in for any of the four titles I mentioned above.

Regarding the Forza talk, I've gone on plenty about how FH3 is my favorite racing game probably ever, but I do enjoy the regular Forza series as well because you can tune the difficulty to your liking and it is a totally different experience. I did pick up Dirt 4 for my PS4 Pro last week when Amazon had it at 39.99 and I'm totally loving that. It really provides a great companion to the Forza games. For current racing series I've played, I'd rank them:

Forza Horizon > Dirt > Forza Motorsport > The Crew (wasn't sure if I should include this since it's not really in the same vein) > Driveclub> Project Cars

But I think we can all agree what the world really needs is a new Burnout game.

Oh and I'm sitting on like 30 million credits in Horizon 3 because I rarely buy anything. One of these days I'm going to just go nuts though.

No, I didn't buy 24TB of external storage, but maybe I should have??
I still wish Microsoft would allow for you to save your games to networked storage. I mean the "other-devs" for 360 scene figured out a way to get games to run across the network just reverse engineering some devbox software. I don't see why it couldn't be an official option on Microsoft consoles. I mean I understand, not everyone has Cat6e and gigabit cores, but still. Make it an option, run a network test through device before enabling, and then people could use their networked storage instead of having drives laying around.

If you had enough games to fill that amount of space, you could stay in your house forever and not need a car.
At the size of games today, not really. I mean between an X1 and PS4 I think you could easily do that without being too excessive. Especially when throwing in the BC provided for 360/OG. I guess that would be excessive, but it's like a steam library. It may be large but it's not like you are playing all of the games. Just there if you want to.

I already have the game, and I know I'm not going to bother with multiplayer very long. It's totally worth it if you don't own it, care about MP, or want Halo Wars 1.

"Plus tap other compatible amiibo to gain additional loot including those from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild series, 30th Anniversary - The Legend of Zelda series, Super Smash Bros. series, and The Legend of Zelda series."

Skyrim VR is going to be a bit different from the regular version due to the motion controls and the VR that requires the graphics to be toned down a bit, the ability to aim attacks and spells in directions other than the center of the screen, and some other things that are required to be the focus of this version. I don't know that charging $60 for the PSVR version and $30 for the regular version is the best way to handle it either.

Doom VFR is a completely different game, as you don't play Doom Guy. You're one of the last humans in the station that die and then has your mind transferred to a mechanical body that has to restore operational stability to the facility.

Bethesda says Hello. This and already having the PC version are mostly the reasons why I balked at the Skyrim remaster in the first place, so now I get to play it in VR for a brand new way to experience that game.

I wouldn't think they'd need to tone down the graphics, there are much better looking PSVR games than Skyrim. I guess maybe the engine could be a problem due to the open world and retrofitting, but I'd think toning down some lighting effects would probably be enough. Even then, I'd think this would only be needed on PS4, not PC. Fallout 4 didn't look any worse as far as I could tell, and that's the same engine with more detail graphics. I did think the FO4 VR trailer ended right outside the Corvega Factory, which is the worst running area in the game by far.

Doom certainly didn't look downgraded, and it's coming to both Steam and PS4. While the gameplay is different, it's clearly in the same engine using the same assets as Doom 4, though it's probably safe to estimate that id Tech 6 is about 10,000% more optimized than the ancient "not" Gamebyro engine that Bethesda uses.

If anyone does get an Xbox One S and has a Kinect they still want to use, if you bitch enough to Microsoft support, they'll send you an adapter even though the free promo for it ended in March.

Worked for me at least.

Their bitching buffer looks to be easily over-run. Nice exploit!

The thing is that Skyrim Remastered runs at 30 fps and probably doesn't have a solid framerate at that. It needs to be at least a rocksolid 60 fps or 90 fps on VR for it to work well without causing nausea, so they have to tone things down to be less taxing for a better, steadier framerate. Fallout 4 has the problem of being even more demanding on the Bethesda game engine and has plenty of issues keeping up its framerate even after many updates, so they'd have to put in a ton of work to make it work well in PSVR and they opted not to bother with that. You can't have any VR game running poorly or it'll be really hard for most people to play your game, which happens to be one of Bethesda's greatest weaknesses.

Doom is on the Id Tech 6 engine, I believe, and that scales really well up and down, so they had a great engine to start from for VFR that I doubt really needs anywhere near the work that Skyrim or Fallout requires. Never said it was on a different engine, but that it's just a different game.

Aren't PSVR games mandated to run at 60fps (minimum) so, I wonder what resolution it'll be running at then? Have they said what fps the Switch version runs at yet too?

Ah, yeah, I didn't think about framerate requirements.

I think there's a demo in the marketplace for FM6. I tried out FM6 when it was free to play back in August and quickly realized it wasn't for me. It seems like a great game for people who are really into cars, but for a casual like me, it was way too technical and demanding. Requires way more skill. It's a totally different type of game. It has 26 real race tracks, and those are the only tracks you race on. In FH games, you could be racing anywhere on the map -- street, dirt road, beach, etc. -- and there are a ton more variety in terms of the race types and "tracks." To me, FM seems like it's more about mastering the tracks, and perfecting them with the different cars.
What? There are ton of assists you can put on to have anyone be able to play Forza. Aside from that you can also have the game auto upgrade your car so no you don't need to be a gear head either - although we enjoy the game as they give us depth too. Drivatars will have a specific difficulty too so you can always adjust that. Your statement above seems to be in the unknown of the franchise so I'm just letting you know, not cramming down your throat that Forza is the best racer. I'll get that some people will enjoy open world arcade-y racing and others enjoy sim track racing but where some games falter Forza really shines in the accessibility department.

Holy shit Halo Wars 2 UE is def worth it at $15. The new leaders all kick ass, like Strategy game fair are all more interesting than the original leaders lol, and they just added Ranked matches so you'll have a fun time in a non-Ranked one as all those elites are in a different league fighting. Halo Wars 2 is also a PlayAnywhere title so that's two games for $15 if you look at it too.

All the forza games are forgiving single player, difficulty wise, since you can rewind at any point and redo parts that are tough. I rewind like a mofo trying to perfectly hit curves and stuff when practicing something. The harder thing most people find is drift challenges and stuff. You can also reduce the drivatar levels, I usually set them to very low because I just enjoy driving and seeing cool stuff and not really racing against perfect AI.

I also got in on the FM7 glitch ($63 for ultimate edition) but may end up cancelling too, I absolutely LOVE the forza horizon series which is open world and crazy and more fast and furious style, and get super bored of the mainline forza motorsports series which is track racking and more sim-y. I mean Hot Wheels vs NASCAR basically, its no competition for me.
Yes, good point on the rewind as well. You do a disservice however saying Hot Wheels vs NASCAR. While there is a NASCAR expansion for FM6, there's a ton of the other stuff in FM games. FM7 is adding a bunch of fan favorite tracks like Maple Road & Suzuka along with all the cars you could want. I really loved the Hot Wheels exp for FH3 but I can't wait to drive on that new road circuit in Dubai in FM7, it's a pretty famous place to drive. I saw sand in some places, I wonder if that'll wear down your tires or make you loose grip in those sections. They also plan to adjust the cloud cover to alter the lighting for corners, have part of the race be raining and having everyone just hold on while they're racing. They asked real life racers about the rain and they all said you don't compete with others then, you compete with the elements and try to stick it out.

NASCAR has a few circuits where they'll take the infield of an oval or whatever but mainly they're just "Turn left" around and around. There's ton of disciplines in racing, street racing circuits, all the way to endurance track racing. The original GRiD always had a good mix of disciplines, something I think Forza has been implementing into their franchise as well. Now we've got racing trucks! RACING TRUCKS! Hahaha

Damn it, I want to play DiRT 4 so bad but I'm waiting, waiting for a good deal and using the money I saved for that future XBOX ONE X purchase :wall: .

I never received any notification. I watched the stream Tuesday and yesterday when I logged into my Xbox Rare Replay was in my Ready to Install section of my games.

Never worked for me, despite linking and unlinking and relinking my Xbox Live/microsoft account, and watching multiple times on their website and on my xbox one, had to give up on it, total waste of time.

I'm watching the Mixer stream of four people playing SoT.  It looks like it might be fun, if something would happen.  I'm not even sure what they are trying to do, are they looking for another ship to battle?

Probably sailing towards treasure. There is a bit of down time when sailing to a location, but it usually doesn't take long

You're right, and it was funny because when they were all on the island digging up the treasure another ship snuck up on them made it interesting.

EDIT - also, they are HORRIBLE at hitting anything with those cannons...

The game is very fun from the time I've spent with it. I imagine it would be even more enjoyable to play with friends instead of randoms. The ship battles are very cool, and it's definitely not easy to sink another ship

I know people write it off because it's Minecraft, but if you've never played it on PC with shaders, it's actually a pretty nice upgrade.

Here's a comparison of the same area in vanilla Minecraft and the upcoming update:

I got a notification through mixer and then games in my ready to install, no notification through xbox
The notifications through X1 seemed to only come up while the system was turned on. I turned mine off for a while and when I turned it back on there were no messages but the games were in the "Ready to Install" list. The dlc I verified by doing a search and seeing that I owned them. The only thing I couldn't verify was the Warthog since I don't have FH3.

On the bright side, the Xbone X should noticeably minimize those load times. I hope Doom is one of the titles that gets an Xbone X upgrade (4K assets/60 FPS please).
According to this list, https://www.gamespot.com/articles/e3-2017-every-xbox-one-x-enhanced-game-at-the-show/1100-6450729/ I would think it would & I think it'll be glorious. Can't wait to see The Witcher 3 after its update too.

I did get the impression that this Super Duper Graphics Pack will be paid, mostly from the name lining up with the other paid texture packs. That's probably worth it if you play a lot though.

Also not sure who on here reads comics, but if you haven't been picking up Green Valley y'all are fucking up. I got a bit choked up this issue. Also it's gonna sound crazy, but I know a lot of people on here love social commentary and tend to lean a bit left, you should really check out the Flintstones comic DC just did, it's just great.

Seems kind of early, but Games with Gold available for free now.

Edit: Dragon Age: Origins may not be free yet.  As BobbyTastic pointed out below, it's available for download off the console due to the current free EA Access.  Make sure to "buy" it when it does become free.

Dragon Age: Origins for 360 can be grabbed from the console.  It doesn't show up as free yet for me on the website, but here's the link:

I heard during the Xbox Daily today that MS expects to add 5 games to the Game Pass on the first of every month, but missed the part about when games would start cycling out.  They apparently didn't give hard details, except that everything currently in the program will be there until at least November.

https://www.onmsft.com/news/microsoft-talks-xbox-game-pass-heres-when-new-games-will-be-added-and-the-first-game-removed

At about the 1 hour, 7 minute mark of the Giant Bomb Nite 2 cast, Phil Spencer said that Minecraft on the Switch will cross play with Xbox and PC using an Xbox Live account from the Switch.  The site apparently doesn't have a direct link to just that video yet, but it's on the front page.  Phil isn't against the idea of achievements in the Switch version, similar to games on iPhone and Android, but it would need to be worked out with Nintendo.

https://www.giantbomb.com/

Was there any details about the cross play for Rocket League?

Didn't hear any about Switch but I think Psyonix handles Xbox/PC and Sony/PC on their end. Since these are the first Switch to Xbox games it probably has to work differently. Probably will be the same basic set up as Minecraft.

To top off Phil's comments he said the OG XBox BC will be quite limited due to licensing issues. You have to respect that because some games will be in the 15 year range of licenses.

So expect a lot of first party stuff but not too much third party. I'm gonna go ape shit when Rallisport Challenge 2 hits and hopefully Burnout Takedown because those are my two favorite racing games of all time, both on the OG XBox.

He also wants to bring OG XBox and 360 BC on PC.

Was waiting for that list. Glad Doom's on there, id Software (Quake/Doom developer) has been really good about offering 4k assets/making shit run at 60 FPS on all the platforms it can (see: RAGE).

Thanks. Is Zoo Tycoon up in Japan yet?

I'm going to assume DA: Origins is only free on Xbone because of the free EA Access this week, and it's not actually live for GWG yet.

It still won't include PS4 because Sony hasn't pulled the stick out of their ass yet.
Sony's already published a damage control article on the subject. It's a hilarious read.

They're getting towards PS3 launch/Xbone launch levels of arrogance. They're going to need a kick in the teeth sooner rather than later.

I'd be happy with just the majority of first-party titles and stuff from SEGA.

Oh yeah! And Zoo Tycoon in Japan, right?
Oh, I don't know. I'm not brave enough to grab the free games from other regions. (I know everyone says it's ok, but still...)

I'm going to assume DA: Origins is only free on Xbone because of the free EA Access this week, and it's not actually live for GWG yet.
Oh shoot -- that's a good point! Didn't even realize about the free EA Access. I'll edit my post and will need to remember to "buy" it again when it does become free for Gold.

Throwback Thursday promo is up. Title is actually on sale this time but the payout is noticeably lower and it's an Xbone game.

Buy Forza Motorsport 5: Game of the Year Edition (On sale for $10), get 1,500 Rewards Credits back ($1.50).

Keep in mind that the "Game of the Year Edition" for Forza 5 only includes ONE DLC (Top Gear Car Pack, $10 separately), so you'd be buying it mostly for the base game.

Burnout would be great as would RC2 (and RC1 for that matter), but I get the feeling the RCs won't make it due to licensing of the cars in the games while BT has generic cars.

I want a cheap copy so that I don't have to find the disc on the increasingly rare occasion I want to play it, but $8.50? A this point, I want less. Guess I'd get a few bing points, too...
