This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I actually thought ME3 was as good as the first one if you can ignore the ending. Also, ME3 has the best game mechanics of all of them. But I do still rate ME1 as the best of the three because of the story.
This guy gets it. I agree on both points, ME1 has the best story of the three, period. I'll agree that ME3 was relatively close story-wise and that it was probably the best gameplay wise. Although I actually preferred the first one in that area too just because I'm god awful at shooters so I found the ability to "pause" the game and take my time to aim every shot was really great. I wish they hadn't taken that out in the sequels (I knew the would though, seemed to advantageous).

I actually thought the quality of the ME 3 ending was blown way out of proportion. It wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be, disappointing sure, but the worst game ending ever? Absolutely not. Also, the "extended" ending did nothing to fix the issues left open by the original ending.

Back kinda on topic, I'm slightly afraid that this month will be a huge let-down in the realm of Games With Gold.  Sleeping Dogs was a welcome surprise even if I already had a physical copy.  I'd been less than thrilled with the previous offerings in general.  I know that you can't really complain about a complimentary game being provided, but there have been some lackluster games made available to us.  I'm hoping for something like a Resident Evil game... or maybe something from Bethesda (which would probably have enough DLC to offer/gouge our virtual wallets).

I still say that I would like to get Halo Wars or Shadowrun offered as well.  I haven't had a hard time getting matches in Shadowrun when I've tried, but most of what is left of the community are the hardcore and incredibly talented players.  That leads to getting your ass handed to you a bit if you're the least bit rusty. It would be nice to see that game get an influx of new players because it really is one of the best/most balanced FPS games I've ever played.

To clarify on Skate's servers, 1 is indeed down and I believe 3's is partially down. As for Skate 2, I'm not sure if you're still able to use the website for custom skateboard designs, but the online server as far as playing is still active. Was working on boosting it last month actually.

Speaking of clarity, I have my doubts that Indignate is actually a girl. It would explain how all the avatars and pics are of the same girl, but I was under the impression that all girls are non-existant on the internet.

I think I'm going to break away from my "don't pay more than $10 for any digital games" rule and pick up FIFA 14. I know I'll get $30 out of it, and maybe I'll even skip FIFA 15 and play it into next year. I really hate spending money on games that I won't be able to resell down the road, but I have a $20 Best Buy GC so it's really only $10 out of pocket, and it's the best deal I've been able to find for the last couple weeks. Will be nice to have it on the HD and not have to worry about the disc, too. But I definitely can't see myself making this a habit.

:edit: does anyone know if Best Buy emails you the cards, or if you have to wait for them in the mail? I could pick one up at the store on Friday but potentially downloading it tonight would be nice.

Kind of odd that Shank 2 is on sale and the first one isn't. I haven't played either one but it seems like the consensus from reviews is that Shank is better than Shank 2.

I kind of do wonder if the original will be one of next month's GwG.

Does anyone recommend Shank 2 even if you haven't played the first one?

I Much preferred Shank 2 over the first one. Animation was much more fluid, game added counters and bit more variety in combat.

And guys wonder why girls hide their gender on the internet. This is why.

There aren't many busses in Africa, especially in areas with armed men that attack on sight. Part of the whole problem of trying to make the game real in some parts (cheap crappy weapons in Africa, little fast travel, cars break easily, etc.) while keeping other parts too unrealistic (respawning enemies quickly, animal A.I., magically golden weapons that never break or jam). The game never quite finds a good balance.

I would recommend you stay far far away from Dark Souls. You'd hate it.

Mirror's Edge is pretty fun and unique but sometimes it's unclear as to what the game wants you to do, or it doesn't do what you want it to do

Easily worth 5 bucks though

I would've picked it up again if it was like 5€ here too, but I'm not going to spend more than that for an old game I already played and completed not once, but twice.

I'm not buying it cause the dlc isn't on sale and can't complete the achievements cause the servers are shut down.

Pretty sure someone responded to this a while back saying you could still get the achievements.
After searching the thread, someone posted with links that you can, but those links were from 2011 and 2012. So until I can get a more recent, I think ill pass. Plus, the dlc is still $9.99.

Man, I really want NHL, but I hate paying more than $10-15 for a digital title.

Ughhhh, there aren't any deals going in for a retail copy, huh

Yeah i just beat mass effect 3, i don't get where i am supposed to be mad.

I guess what happens to the masses....

::puts Mnemonic Visor on::

doesn't effect me.

There, January 22nd, 2014, I hope this is recent enough. You don't need server to finish Mirror's Edge, just skills.

As for the DLC, it did when on sale, many years ago, 50% off too.

But a good chance it will go on sale again when Mirror's Edge 2 coming out.

I wouldn't call it the worst game ending ever either, it's just poor to mediocre. I think the reason people get so upset about it is that the rest of the series is so amazing that ending with that just pisses people off. It was a missed opportunity to put a crowning moment on one of the greatest video game series of all time.

I haven't played any of the DLC yet (including the extended ending), so I'll be interested to see the changes with my second playthrough.

Crysis 3's campaign and gameplay is better than any of the more recent CoD games, so if you want a big budget FPS with challenging gameplay then you should really pick it up.

Not to rehash this for the millionth time, but the Extended Cut does improve things a lot IMO. Like in terms of actually depicting what happens (novel concept, right) at the end, instead of just showing some confusing imagery, then abruptly cutting to black and going, "You figure it out."

The Citadel goes on sale and this thread happens. Somewhere, Major Nelson is saying "Never again," and somewhere else Kaz is tenting his fingers and muttering "Excellent" to himself. This is why we can't have nice things, people.

As to the sale, I am pleased. Save the decisions it forces on my future gaming choices. Do I really want to play Mirror's Edge in 2017?

Shank 2 is excellent; easily worth full price and an absolute no-brainer for under three bucks.
The cheapest game from the bunch : ) Right up my cheapS valley.

I actually do wanna play Shank 2, after playing first installment on PC. Bet game engine will be a lot more smoother on Xbox.

$2.50 is definitely a good cheapass deal

better than any of the more recent CoD games
That's really not saying much.

I can't help but think Crysis' legitimately cool mechanics are wasted on a game so blandly designed.

So I started into Phantom Breaker. Pretty good so far, would easily recommend to any beatemup enthusiasts.

Moon Diver's on sale again for some reason. It's fun, very fluid, but like people here have said, extremely grindy. I don't have any misgivings spending $3.75 on it, but for twice that I don't know. Then again I haven't yet had a chance to play co op.

To those wondering about Dead Space, it's a solid game despite its flaws. It's filled to the brim with plot-holes, but at least during your first playthrough you probably won't notice (most of)them. While I think jump-scares have as close a relation to horror as reference does to parody, it does what it does very well. The atmosphere is oppressive, it plays like RE4 in space, and new game+ gives it a fair amount of replayability.

Mirror's Edge is something I have to disagree with Yahtzee on, but I don't have that much trouble with first person platforming, and this game does it better than almost anything I've seen. The story's dumb but functional. Aesthetically it's gorgeous. Good soundtrack too. Fun game; if you haven't played it, you've got $5 to lose if you don't like it. Well worth it even if you don't care about time trials/speedruns.

I know it's a completely random guess, but I'm gonna assume that Crysis 2 is gonna be GwG either in Feb. or the future seeing as how it's mysteriously absent from this sale

The cheapest game from the bunch : ) Right up my cheapS valley.

I actually do wanna play Shank 2, after playing first installment on PC. Bet game engine will be a lot more smoother on Xbox.

$2.50 is definitely a good cheapass deal
I liked the first but Shank 2 is actually better and contains a multiplayer component.

Have fun.

Man, this is a hard one to answer. What exactly are you looking for in the campaign? Combat, story, atmosphere? Because it does have very good combat (especially the final boss) and is a decent length. Bioware had a year's worth of multiplayer and a couple of other DLC's to observe and, accordingly, refine that aspect of the gameplay. But there are also parts of the campaign that involve just walking around talking to people and a few quasi-stealth moments. There is also the Armax Arsenal Arena that you can go back to and play after the main campaign is over (which even has its own little mini-storyline) if combat is your thing.

As for the story and atmosphere of the campaign, the whole thing is very campy and silly, almost to the point of self-parody. It has a lot of self-referential humor and may seem a little out of place amongst the main game, but it is very fun. And, like I said, it has a good length. I'm not really sure exactly how long, but there are multiple sections to it and it probably took me a few hours to complete (although I never like to rush through, so that may extend the length for me compared to some other people).

In the end though, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend it if you're not at all interested in the squad interactions involved in the DLC. That's really the heart and soul of it. Even the campaign itself is based a lot around that and I'm not sure how much you would enjoy it if you don't love the characters from throughout the series.
Thank you. That helps a great deal. I appreciate the reply.

In answer to your question, combat, story, and atmosphere are all things I appreciate. Those elements were all present and well-balanced in Overlord and Lair, and I felt like those DLCs were great additions to ME2 and well worth the price. I'm hoping for something along those lines with Citadel. However, from what I've read, Citadel seems to be focused more on fan-service**, which I'm not interested in at this point in time. What I don't want to be doing is clicking on Liara or Garrus a dozen times until all of their one-way dialogue scripts are exhausted.

I guess what I'm trying to gauge is how much does Citadel offer in terms of real "substance" and how much of it is really just a vehicle for deliberate fan-service. From what you're saying, it's seems like the ratio is skewed towards the later. I'm inclined to pass on it, if that's the case.

**I realize Lair had some fan-service, but it came at the very end and was incidental to core of that mission. I also realize that the whole series is pretty much just one giant soap-opera at this point, so I'm aware that there is something slightly incongruent about my questions to begin with.

I was thinking the same but with shank 1 being offered as GWG.
In a day or two we'll find out for sure what GwG has in store for us in February.

Anticipation is running rampant inside of many of us. Look Bloomy wants to get a hold Mjr. Nelson at Super Bowl.

If I would personally know an insider from Microsoft I would probably take him hostage place him in pitch dark room with lamp in his face and squeeze out info about next GwG.

I figured the same with Shank 1. If both games are free next month, I'll be happy.

Played the Contrast demo. Wow, this is nothing like Closure. I take it this is more like Ico without the combat element? I love how the main character can only see shadows and you use those shadows at times to advance to the next level. Good stuff.

I don't know if I should purchase it since my storage space is getting limited. Is this game also available on Xbox One? Might be a better idea to use it on that or PS4 where I would have more storage space.

Thanks that's all I wanted to know! Off to buy more 32 GB sticks then...but external hdds would be cheaper (instead of buying 5x 32gb usb sticks lol) if only we could use more than 32 GB of them *sigh*
I'm holding out as long as I can with my 120 GB hard drive and one 32 GB flash drive and downloading/beating/deleting games. My plan is to try and wait until the bigger hard drives and the 32s get a lot cheaper before the servers are taken down, I wouldn't even be all that surprised to see 32s on sale pretty regularly for $10 by around this time next year.

I have some interest in the newer XBLA games (Contrast, FInal Exam and Blood Knights) but I'm sure by the time I'd touch them, they will go on sale again and possibly even cheaper since they're all at 50% right now...

EDIT: Just looked at MC and I definitely will wait now. 2 out of the 3 are sitting in the mediocre/average area while Blood Knights got slammed and is sitting on a 48.

Yeah, even though I and a lot of other people greatly enjoyed it, I will admit that it was extremely "fan servicey" and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who would argue otherwise. It does have a hell of a lot of content, but much of that is the squadmate meetups and the party. It does also add a whole extra section of the Citadel as a hub area, which contains the Armax Arsenal Arena that I mentioned before, as well as a casino and an arcade with some mini-games (but again, this has nothing to do with the "campaign" itself).

Like I said, the campaign is fun and it also has some pretty interesting locations. You can also learn a few small things about the lore of the series in certain parts of it. But there is no part of it that is not tongue-in-cheek and filled to the brim with fan service. I would say that the DLC does have a lot of substance, but the majority of that substance is fan service. It would be impossible to even gauge how much substance the DLC would have without the fan service, because without the fan service it would be a completely different DLC.

For the campaign in the DLC, can you use any squad mates or do they have to be the same ones on ME 3?
