This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Anyone played Realms of Ancient War? Looks like an average Diablo style dungeon crawler. Wondering if its worth a buy at 5 bucks.

Wound up picking Phantom breaker. Retro style beat em ups are always gold to me, but it got me thinking.... what ever happened with the original fighting game? I remember it was supposed to get a release but i dont think it ever did
I own it. It is more like the Gauntlet arcade game than Diablo. Although you can call it Diablo-lite, because it does have RPG elements in that you level up and improve your skills. It is a hack and slash grind fest with a pretty good story line. Some of the achievements will require you grind through the game several times. It is Okay as a side-by-side couch co-op (2 player) game for some mindless gaming.

For $5 and as an arcade title, it will not feel like it you have been taken. I have younger kids and there will be other younger kids over tomorrow and more likely than not, they will be having fun playing this title tomorrow before the Super Bowl starts.

If you want a casual game, this works. Its fun, but do not expect too much. The kids love it, that is all that matters to me plus at $5 it was easy to say yes when they asked to purchase it.

Regarding Toy Soldiers...

The original is great. It's WWI-based and it has an atmosphere very different than most any other wargame you'll play. The flares go up at night, the bugle sounds, and the first wave hits. I think the original TS works because WWI *was* basically tower defense and wave-based, so it all just works. Best part is once you win as the British side, you then get to play back through as the German side and the battles *do* play very differently.

If you don't have the original TS and ignore someone giving free codes for it, you're really missing out on a good game. It also doesn't take up a ton of HD space. I have a pretty small HD still and TS is one of the few games that has stayed on it the entire time. Original TS is one of my favorite XBL games easily.

Everyone should give TS: Cold War a try when it's free.
Yeah, I've raved plenty about the original Toy Soldiers in this thread in the past. I'll just say it's my 2nd favorite XBLA game. (behind Braid and in front of Super Meat Boy) So much content and so much fun throughout.

It's my second favourite (Cold War, not the first one) as well, except it's behind Brothers and infront of Limbo :bouncy:

Now I have a question: Is it okay to play Dragon Age II without playing the first one? Same thing about Borderlands 2 and Deadspace 3. Are they okay to play without having played the original?

Dragon Age 2 is in no way worth playing without the original being played first. Borderlands 2 would be okay, but you'd get a lot more from it if you had played the first one. Same with Dead Space 3.

I wouldn't call it a waste. $40 Live/24 games = $1.66/game on avg if you pick up all 24, $3.33/game if you only get 12. That's cheaper than physical copies. I'd buy a game I wouldn't usually try for $2.
This. You actually get to keep them to if you unsubscribe. No one is saying PS+ is not better, It's simple that the Games with Gold is still a great deal for what you pay for. I think MS realizes that in the future when people go to the PS4/PC/Whatever it may be that they will lose out on gold memberships, and Games With Gold is a way of getting people to keep paying.

Don't download the online pass for KOA. My game kept freezing at the first loading screen when starting a new game. If you already downloaded it, delete "House of Valor" from your hard drive. I don't know if you lose the online pass content or if it already comes with the GOD version.

The GOD vesion of games already have the online pass in it.

To those having trouble with DI, a few pointers:
1. throwing weapons is semi dangerous, but keeps repair costs low (weapons don't take damage when thrown). And for the most part, as long as your cursor is near the enemy, it'll home in (with your arm raised you'll see a red crosshair on any nearby enemy). Sharp weapons stick in enemies, blunt bounce off. You'll run into problems trying to target a specific one in a group so just make sure you have tons handy. And play with people you trust, co-op partners can pick up thrown weapons.

2. Get the first level of rage just so you have it ASAP. Then work on whatever you feel like is good. My suggestion? Unlock box levels or stomp. You get stronger weapons easily that way, but you don't really have to worry about lockboxes until about halfway through the game and stomp becomes OP when you realize that you can jump kick.

3. Try to avoid stairs. If you have to go up one, just keep trying until you break through.

4. Once you find blueprints with x2 elements, go for crit skills. Elements stun most enemies to let you destroy then easily. There are also dev blueprint weapons in game that have unique attributes, so be on the look out for them (they involve a little treasure hunt to get each one).

5. Logan is seriously OP. All the characters are strong in their own way, but Logan's broken once you discover a combo that destroys everything you come across without ever getting near anything.

Someone asked about riptide, so I'm going to say that it's a similar jump like left 4 dead 1 and 2. More of it if you love the first with some tweaks to make it better, but if you didn't like it, then it won't change your mind.

Looking forward to toy soldiers. Seems like it'll be fun. Anybody else just downloading these just to have them digitally? I think out of the 12 or so free games, I've only seen one that's not in my current collection but still downloaded everything just to have them.

^very good advices from Crazyglitcher. The best skill for me is stomp, so once you get rage, stomp is the next thing to look for. It saves you a lot of time/weapon repairs.

Also, which is the combo from Logan? the boomerang skill?

The fastest way I've found to get past that glitch is to jump up the stairs backwards. Another way that seems effective is to move very slow up the stairs till you're within jump distance of the top and jump at the last minute so it can't throw you back down the stairs.

I never noticed that stairs glitch that everyone mention :whistle2:k Lucky me I guess.

Also, +1 on Toy Soldiers 1&2 DLC sale.

Didn't happen to me at all with my first run through, or on the ryder white campaign, but it nailed me 3 or 4 times on my second playthrough.

EDIT: One more thing I forgot to add to the tip list. For the elements: skull is poison ("vomit stunlock"), fire is fire, one lightning bolt is shock ("electric slide stunlock"), and three lightning bolts is impact (Super Smash Ness Home Run Bat levels of knockback/over). My personal favorite is impact, especially when all the crit skills are maxed. Flying zombies for miles.

That helps, but isn't an essential part to the wombocombo. I'll send you a PM because I don't want to ruin the game for those playing Logan.

Never thought of doing it backwards *facepalm*. I just kept spamming jump and run at random intervals near the top and eventually I made it out. Is it a for sure fix for it? Cause that'd be great if it is.

I've found that there's one specific quest that one can almost always repro it on, and that's the one where you follow a blood trail into a downstairs bathroom on the resort level. I believe it's the first sidequest to give you a gun as a reward, too, so everyone feels inclined to do it.

thanks. For 5 bucks that sounds like its worth it. Not expecting gold, but a half decent diablo-lite game sounds good to me

anyone know if the original phantom breaker was ever released? I dont recall it coming out like it was supposed to. Xbox mag even did a review for it

I've found that there's one specific quest that one can almost always repro it on, and that's the one where you follow a blood trail into a downstairs bathroom on the resort level. I believe it's the first sidequest to give you a gun as a reward, too, so everyone feels inclined to do it.
Yeah, the side-quest for helping that guy that says "I'll always remember my amigos". It rewards you with a
gun with a single bullet. I always sell that weapon.

Hey, I never said Borderlands and Borderlands 2 were garbage in single player. I just find them more enjoyable in co op. :p
As was the case with both Dead Islands. Borderlands and Borderlands 2 are far superior though.

Catherine is interesting. It's well worth $10, but later puzzles do get highly frustrating. I don't play alot of puzzle games and I beat it on the easiest difficulty, so it's not too ridiculously hard. The puzzle part is definitely the weak point, though. That being said, the story is fairly fun and there are opportunities to help out other characters. I enjoyed seeing the sheep versions of some of the people seen while awake.

Very mini spoiler ahead.

Transgender!? That's a twist.

So 2 crummy Free games with gold this month and nothing for Xbox One. Does anyone have a Microsoft Xbox feedback page? Either Microsoft doesn't care of they just don't get it.

Multiple users in this thread have commented on both games positively. If they aren't for you, ok, but that doesn't make them "crummy." It's not like they gave us Duke Nukem and Aliens; most CAGs have Toy Soldiers for free, so getting the sequel seems like a deal, and Dead Island is a Platinum Hits title, it's not like no one ever bought or had fun with it. From a business perspective, you're getting something additional for the same price you've been paying for years. Expecting something amazing and recent seems irrational. It's not like we're going to get GTA V and Titanfall for free.

XB1 just came out, I imagine they're going to want to make some money off the games first.

First off, Xbox one just came out. There aren't even bundles with games yet, and you expect one for GwG? There also aren't many games in general for the Xbox one, they're pretty much all new releases. Almost 100% positive the companies will get pissed if everyone received a copy of a new release before they could make profits. And they can't just say "only free for xbox one" because the backlash would be astronomical. There's already one for REGIONS getting different games so yeah, not going to happen.

At least Killer Instinct is free to play though, so there you go. Unfortunate if you don't like fighting games, but that's how's it's been with GwG as well.

So the next free game is Toy Soldiers: Cold War? That makes me 0 for 20 for the games for gold program. I am not giving up hope yet. I think there is still a chance I can get a free game out of this service, eventually.

Finally got around to trying out some demos for the games on sale this week, and I'm unimpressed.

Contrast I'll probably get. Gameplay seems a bit floaty and camera's a little too loose, but I kind of want to see the story to the end.

Blood Knights, very generic hack and slash. Only considering it because it looks like an easy 400G.

Final Exam I'd say is a definite pass for me. Reminds me of Shoot Many Robots and I got burned out on that game forever ago.

Otherwise, only other thing I'm debating on is the Kingdoms of Amular DLC. On some respects, I regret missing out on it the first time and if I miss it again this time, it may be the final time it sees a sale. On the other, the game felt long enough as it was, and I still have yet to go back and finish it after all this time.

Not really, its been in release limbo for about 2+ years, even though the game is complete and all (since of supposed xbox mag review), its just has never been bothered yet to be released (for that matter, I even wonder if the publishers 7sixty [subsid. of Southpeak] are still in business or possibly silently bankrupt. Even their soical media and their webisites themselves are either dead/gone/removed/not updated/etc.), well, if anything, 5pb/Mages themselves are trying to get the rights back and hopefully release it here. In the meantime, if you're willing to import it, PB: Extra is region free on the 360 though.

Finally finished all of Mass Effect 3. Yup, Mass Effect 2 is still the best game in that series far and away. Though Citadel is probably one of my favorite pieces of story based DLC in a game.
