This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

That is a good deal for Max Payne for those that don't have it. I got it during the BBY b1g2 or whatever it was on platinum hit games a few week back or I would jump on it.

Please tell me that there will be Xbox One games on sale this week.

And no - Zoo Tycoon is not what I had in mind.  (Last week was a joke, right?  ...Not funny.)

I know right, I just got a Xbox One too. I would like a sale on Crimson Dragon and Dead Rising 3 season pass or somethin. pls msoft

Man, maybe a price or two will flip.....but so far, not looking good.

Battlefield 4:  $59.99

Call of Duty: Ghosts:  $59.99

Dead Rising 3:  $59.99

FIFA 14:  $59.99

Ryse: Son of Rome:  $59.99

Madden NFL 25:  $59.99

Titanfall:  $59.99

Max Payne 3 - $4.99

MP3 Rockstar Pass - $3.74

L.A. Noire - $7.49

Bully - $3.74
That's disappointing. Guess I'll get Foul Play after all because I don't own it elsewhere. Wanted to get Giana and Sanctum 2 but I don't have the budget this week to double-dip (already have for PC). The reviews seem to say Hexodius is a piece of shit, so I'll skip it.

As for Capsized, I'll just say it's a good thing I still have that friend from Oman.

Could someone remind me why Max Payne 3 didn't sell so well? I thought it was pretty damn good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZHwxIL9oYo

Didn't care for the story or characters and bullet time felt more like a chore compared to being an all powerful God like the first two games. Plus I enjoyed the first two games. Though this is why I personally didn't give a hoot.

Damn, this is not looking good. It looks like I will be picking up Giana sisters afterall!

Just because a game is good does not mean it will sell well, like i think Bioshock Infinite didnt sell well because i know some of the team had to be disbanded, and it ended up in playstation plus really quick, and another story is with DMC the game was good but most people hated the new dante (including me) so it didnt sell well and ended up again in playstation plus

When has being on PS+ meant a game didn't sell well? Tomb Raider sold well in the eyes of everyone unless you're the company releasing it and didn't see Lightning involved in the game somewhere.

I thought it was an amazing game. Luckily picked it up on GoD for $2.95 about 2 months after its release here in Australia due to a glitch on the marketplace. But then I bought a physical copy as 14gbs is too much space on my hd these days.

I don't really know why it failed but I suspect the following: I think Rockstar fell victim to their own success. In the sense that I think people expect a big open world game from Rockstar these days and not a run and gun corridor shooter. I really think people had a hard time understanding that going into this game as after RDR people were expecting another big open world and when Rockstar didn't deliver they just sat on their hands. This too came after L.A. Noire which was another slight failure for them as it too was a game that was hard to market from their studios.

All in all Max Payne 3 is a great game. It is fairly buggy though, a lot more than most Rockstar games are. I had numerous times when I had the whole world disappear around me in a level and I'd have to reboot my machine. But considering that maybe happened 6 times (I think mostly around the airport level) and I played the game for about 20 hours or more, I guess that's not too bad. It's a tough game and I'd spend an hour or two trying to get past a certain bit. So if you are someone with controller rage either put down the difficulty or pass on this one.

I think being put on PS+ is more a sign of stagnated sales at that point, as opposed to not selling well at all. By the time Infinite was on there, nobody was buying it any more.

Because Max Payne isn't that popular a series to begin with, honestly and 2 came out ages ago. Also, it wasn't done by Remedy AND there were some faults with the game. The gunplay as someone else said, is top-notch though, and they put it in GTAV iirc, which is great.

The biggest problem with MP3 imo, was that the MP (a big part of the game) was dead-on-arrival. That and the cheaters (though their solution for the cheaters was pretty neat). -> http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/06/rockstar-condemns-max-payne-3-cheaters-to-play-only-against-each-other/

The PS+ thing was more about Bioshock, Tomb Raider sold really well, because i know bioshock infinite didnt make all the money that 2K wanted and even when the original bioshock cover art included elizabeth and marketing said no and just left booker they couldnt do anything about it because they already spent so much money making the game unlike TLoU where marketing told them no and they didnt care and they left ellie on the cover

That's kinda what I figured as well. If it was based on shitty sales then you'd see games like Dark and that terrible motorcycle game with clothes on sex scenes.

...wut? Having Elizabeth on the cover would not have made a lick of difference in sales. Plus even for some goddamn inane stupid ass reason having Elizabeth on the cover would have somehow made the game sell a million more, they could've done something considering they allowed people to choose which reversible cover they wanted after they revealed the cover with just Booker on it.

Because it's a video game that clearly ripped off The Punisher, and threw in some Matrix-style bullet time, which led to a whole host of games utilizing the same bullet time element, until it jumped the shark about half a decade ago. It got old after the second game.

Imo if you can get Max Payne 3 and/or Red Dead Redemption at a deal price, you're getting a deal and should pick them up. I loved Red Dead Redemption, liked a lot Max Payne 3. Had some fun with its multiplayer but I mainly got that game to play the campaign story. *picks up drugs and grinds them with his teeth.

"They said it would be an easy gig, why the hell did I listen to them."

Lol really, both have top notch presentation, voice work and beautiful motion capture animation.

I Think Marlow Briggs will be on sale next week. How do I know this? Because I accidentally pressed "confirm purchase" when checking the price on it on XBL.

Personally, I think LA Noire is one of the better Rockstar games out there. If they could take the detail of that era and the facial expressions, toss in the interface of GTA V, and the longevity of game time in RDR; and make a game from that, with online that doesn't suck or get repetitive; that would be the game I'd go after.

I retract my statement, got the dates wrong. Nvm

Midnight Club LA is also on sale for $3.74. It's been on sale a few other times. It's a great racer and this GoD version is the Platinum Hits version that comes with all the DLC included so don't worry about that. If you haven't bought this game this is a fairly good buy. Though if you haven't bought any of these games they're all good buys. Rockstar makes great games but I think anyone on here probably owns them all by now and has played them all.

I can't praise Bully enough by the way. It's my favourite Rockstar game and certainly my favourite open world/sandbox game that they've done (still haven't played GTA V though). The graphics are a little dated as this is a more uprezed version of the original PS2/Wii game. But they're still great and the art direction and music is phenomenal. It doesn't have much in the way of multiplayer other than some races and stuff but it's an amazing and fulfilling single player story that never stops throwing new and exciting things your way . . . also panty raids . . . panty raids!!!!

Personally, I think LA Noire is one of the better Rockstar games out there.
My problem with LA Noire is that while it's a captivating game with great characters and stories I couldn't get past that I wanted it to have an open world like in GTA IV or in RDR with all the wonderful visceral gameplay. But instead, and stay with me here, it's secretly a game in line with one of those Euro Truck Simulator games. Truly, you have to drive carefully, you lose points for shooting anyone, for shashing cars, etc. It's this gorgeous LA in the 40s and 50s brought to life but you're not really allowed to do anything in it other than a few find the landmarks, movie reels and some really shallow respond to police radio machines which are often quicker to complete than a standard WarioWare mini-game. It's a weird mash of an adventure game/lie detector machine simulator, with a euro truck simulator and some meh shooting mechanics. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game but it definitely needed some more love beyond the performances and the motion cap. It falters a bit from David Cage syndrome - put all the resources into performances and story and then kinda slap gameplay on here and there rather than find a convincing way to all it all to get together cohesively . . .

also a sheer lack of panty raids

Man, I feel your pain. Never happened such thing to me, and I hope it never will.
I Thought I was the same up until a few hours ago. Let this be a lesson in it can happen to anyone! Be it your neighbor, your best friend, a sentient cactus or EVEN YOU!

Could someone remind me why Max Payne 3 didn't sell so well? I thought it was pretty damn good.
That's a fantastic question that just can't be answered. I agree with Glass Ghost that's it's one of the top games of its generation. It wasn't without issues though. Like Bobbytastic said it has never gained the fame it should have achieved. I don't know if it was the noir style and comic book frame presentation of the first two, but it was a niche title really. They really expected MP2 to sell really well after the critical success of the first and it didn't. At least not as much as they expected as there were always tons of copies in stock everywhere and it received fast price drops. It was WAY overproduced. 2 was also too short. The PC version had mods and a survival mode which added to the length, but mostly length had to be drawn out by the player playing the story multiple times on harder difficulties and it was a difficult game to start with. The huge length of time between 2 and 3 didn't help either. Speaking of which it's time for a new Red Dead...

I loved the first two and I really loved three as well. The change in presentation or location didn't bother me. The mp was not the greatest, but still a lot of fun with some cool new modes especially gang wars. But the mp was unbalanced and there were cheaters for a while and the mp was no CoD or Gears (pre Judgment of course). I have to wonder if the game as a whole would have been more highly praised if it only had the single player component and didn't try mp. Maybe just have a horde mode.

OMG, you scared the shit out of me.

Lesson learned, never click on purchase on a game I don't really want. To check prices, xbox.com and xbldb are save havens.

I got MP3 a couple years ago when it was on sale so I never really touched the MP, but the single player of the game is just amazing. It's easily the best story (mainly because it already had a franchise to build off), narrowly beating out LA Noire, and the game mechanics work perfectly. For the first time in a Rockstar, the gunplay doesn't suck balls. In fact, the gunplay and cover system is so well done, they used it again for GTA V.

I also enjoyed RDR quite a bit, although like most open world games, I finished the story and I was done with the game.

If either RDR or LA Noire were cheaper (around the $5 range), I would love to pick them up again.

Bully fucking rocks...
LA Noire fucking rocks

Red Dead Redemption fucking rocks the cock and are you kidding me......grab that bitch.

All of those games should be owned and played by everyone...

I just got Max and his pass....awesome deal. Sweet buy!

I Think Marlow Briggs will be on sale next week. How do I know this? Because I accidentally pressed "confirm purchase" when checking the price on it on XBL.
No way! With your accidental purchase they probably doubled their sales. No way they'll slash the price now that it's flying off the shelves like stale, moldy, lukewarm cakes.

Eitherway, what's done is done and only one person to blame for this...

Wtf another Rockstar sale? Red Dead was just on sale last month too. Can't wait to see all the positive comments on Majors page tomorrow.
Sucks that there hasn't been a deal of the week in weeks.

It happens. But why check the price of Marlow Briggs of all things? Just itching to play some of that blockbuster triple-B action?

Joking aside, I'm sure if you talk to Customer Support and say the website goofed or something, they'll refund you provided you haven't played yet.

Actually I think they had a special inside cover thing for the Special Edition box (it had a main cover for the big box, which was a flap you could open to see another cover under it). Inside the box was just a standard edition though because lazy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo1h5O6PMPM

Skip to 02:30, mute it if need be, to see what I'm talking about.

Speaking of which it's time for a new Red Dead...
Try telling that to us Bully fans! Red Dead can wait a little longer. :p

On the bright side, Bully 2 is more or less confirmed in development if you dig around. I can explain why if need be, but this post is already running long.

Eitherway, what's done is done and only one person to blame for this...

Post of the day?

Hahaha, oh man, the outrage is the only reason I check the comment section of his posts these days. If you think HERE is bad, you have no idea.

Since you mentioned it.. I'll post a screencap I took of the "lovely" comments on one of his posts the other day.

Warning: Though I am posting this for laughs, the content may offend some with more delicate sensibilities, so I'm spoilering it.

To this day, I'm still amazed someone actually had this posted long enough for me to screencap it. Guess MajorNelson was napping.

I guess Microsoft just needs to do a Rockstar Sale at least 10 times a year,So that's like 2 times already this year I think.
Didn't you hear? LA Noire* was going to be a PS3 exclusive until Microsoft agreed to the 10 Rockstar sales a year condition.

You don't seriously think Rockstar would release a game for a system that required THREE discs without some sort of deal involved, do you? :p

Edit: Ruined the joke by forgetting to mention the game name. Derp.
