This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I Like how digging up those ET Atari cartridges is basically the biggest XBox news this year so far.

Ever hear of Titanfall?

So a piece of XBox news that's on major news outlets outside of games means it's not as big a deal as Titanfall?

Lol Sonytard go play Wack I mean Knack
I Sure will when it's free on PS+ and when I get a PS4 and when I get PS+. I Wish it met the high standard of Crimson Dragon and Loco Cycle.

Ok. I can see not a whole lot for people to talk about today...

Does major usually announce GWG last day of the month?

I'd also like to see a franchise/DLC sale to accompany any games (if applicable).

-snip-
I haven't played all the games in your list, but Mortal Kombat, Enslaved, Metro 2033 and Tekken Tag 2 are awesome, it would be great to have them as GwG, though I already own it. That said, I don't own Enslaved digital, and wouldn't mind having it that way.

I must be the only person who liked that E.T. game as a kid.  I guess no one else realized if you timed the fall into a pit and pressed the red button before you hit the bottom, you would stop yourself from falling and not lose energy.

I had ET as a kid too. I wasn't aware there was anything else to do in the game besides falling into pits. ;)

fuck E.T. - Raiders of the Lost Ark was the greatest movie game for the 2600... We actually figured that one out when we were kids... And it was not easy.

Had to figure out how to blow the wall out so you could meet the salesman dude. Had to figure out where the staff of Ra was and figure out which mesa to dig on to find the Ark... I wish I could play that game again.

Nope, I loved the hell out of E.T. as a kid. It was one of the few games where I could beat it easily and considering I was probably about 4 or 5 at the time it's why I played it so much - I did love other games like Pitfall but christ the difficulty was impossible there. It's funny that I didn't realize how universally hated the game was at the time. Didn't click into it until I heard about the mythical dump site about 10 years back. I honestly think the game gets way more hate than it deserves. It's truly not that terrible. Just they made way too many copies of it at a horrid time when the games industry was in the pits. I'm so not interested in the documentary though - especially now that I know they found the site. I'm trying to figure out how they can milk a full and interesting documentary out of it (and I'm a documentary editor by trade).

Feel like you have your nostalgia glasses on. It was the worst movie licensed tie in game because it was rushed to market and not paid any respect. There was a very tight timeframe and the game didn't go through the usual testing due to that and the popularity of the movie. The game developer and Speilberg clashed on the idea of the game, Speilberg wanted something similar to the successful Pac-Man. It was said that the game's cost was $125 million. Yeah, a swift grave was the least of what it deserved. The game should be encased in the museum of video games lol, to show and represent not to bite off more than you can chew when developing games.

I feel like MMOs are falling into that pitfall these days.

Nope, no nostalgia glasses. What you said about it being "the worst movie licensed tie in game because it was rushed to the market and not paid any respect" applies to almost every licensed game ever. I don't see how E.T. is any different than the hundreds if not thousands of licensed games that did the same.

In fact I played an emulated version recently and still didn't think it was all that bad. Most movie-tie-in games are rushed to market - that's the reality of the genre. And these days mostly they're just generic shooters re-skinned and done poorly (R.I.P.D., Battleship, Battle Los Angeles . . . the list goes on). Given the technology and how new it was at the time I think ET actually was an interesting game. It promoted exploration, there was an interesting over-world, it actually did things that were new at the time. It was a game in which there was no combat - just escape. In a lot of ways it was very much an early example of games like Slender.

Was it or is it a brilliant game - god no. But look at the various titles that were out for the Atari at the time. In comparison to Pac-Man for the system or the movie/tv-show tie-ins for the A-Team (horrendous), Alien (a pacman ripoff that makes the Gearbox game look like Citizen Kane) or even Porky's (a game I recently referred to as "Frogger with strippers"). I challenge anyone to play those three tie-in games and say that E.T. was really all that bad in comparison to the other games on the market. To be honest many Atari games were garbage, hence why the industry collapsed. But E.T. does get unfairly singled out for being garbage - when at best it was mediocre to fair at the time.

I kinda liked the Battle Los Angeles game

I remember playing the hell out of ET and another movie tie in game on the old Atari, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Raiders was I think the first game I ever "beat".

After for some reason I stopped playing it years ago I decided to pick up Half Life 2: Episode 2 on the Orange Box up again and start from scratch. The gameplay holds up much better than it really should.

Man, flame suit on or whatever, but I tried Half-Life 2 and it bored me out of my skull. I think I got as far as that enormous dune buggy level which was about the least fun I've ever had with a video game. And I loved Left 4 Dead and Portal so I was primed for it.

That's because it is a 10 year old game. It is a decent, but nothing really special game right now if you are new to it. But when it came out it did so much more than anything else seen before. Not unlike Star Wars, which has great special effects, but not really special compared to the average movie these days. But, in 1977 ...

I think the the whole ET cartridge dig and Atari documentary are awesome. I can't wait to see it. Looks like they didn't get Geraldo'd
Yeah, and they actually found more than ET down in that hole apparently. They also found other games like Centipede (which was really a pretty good conversion).

Hell yeah centipede rocked, hell I even loved Muppets Pigs In Space on the Atari 2600. Somewhere in my parents house my Atari is collecting dust....I should go retrieve it for a tailgating party prior to the documentary being broadcast.

Playing Deadlight feels like work. This game blows. "You can tell times are bad because of my scruffy voice, lets go find my diary pages that are all over Seattle for no reason grumble grumble"

I must be the only person who liked that E.T. game as a kid. I guess no one else realized if you timed the fall into a pit and pressed the red button before you hit the bottom, you would stop yourself from falling and not lose energy.

I also played the E.T. game a LOT, and didn't find it that bad a game. I played it more than a lot of other games I had. Now Q-Bert.... that was an awful game.

I think E.T.'s heavily criticized because at the time people didn't have any patience whatsoever for games. Keep in mind Atari 2600 was the console that had the game "Adventure", an "RPG" you could literally beat in only like 90 seconds, and gamers somehow look upon Adventure fondly still...

Besides not every Atari 2600 game could be as awesome as Pinball. I wish I hadn't sold my Atari 2600 and games years ago.

I would be excited about From Dust for GwG. Not so much for Dust:AET. And I think it's unfortunately the latter people are talking about.

This is an absolutely awful reason to play a game to me. I don't care if a game is super-easy and would give 20,000 GS, if it's bad why play it?
Because some people care about gamerscore. Remember the saying about opinions and assholes?

Even a game like Rocksmith, that I have spent a thousand hours in, I never even grind the mini games and stuff for GS. I could give a damn about GS, but some people obviously do.

I'm nearly through Act 1 of Deadlight and even the easy 400 can't get me to finish it.

They must have given review sites a nice chunk of cash to review it with such high regards.

"Game Informer's Tim Turi was impressed with the game, scoring it 8 out of 10, and writing "Just when you think we've seen everything the zombie genre has to offer, another worthwhile adventure lurches forth. Deadlight mixes Shadow Complex's impressive 2.5D visuals, Limbo's rewarding platforming puzzles, and The Walking Dead's grim atmosphere. The resulting cocktail is potent."[16] IGN also gave it a positive review, awarding it a score of 8.5 out of 10, with reviewer Ryan McCaffrey praising the game's aesthetics; "Quite simply, its aesthetic is gorgeous, with a silhouetted Randall in a darkened foreground running for his life in front of a drab, muted, crumbling Seattle. Several of Deadlight's set-pieces are so stunning that I had to actually stop to admire them before pressing onward. Randall's gravelly, determined-yet-pessimistic voice acting is also laudable, as is the somber soundtrack."[20] Another positive review came from Marty Silva of 1UP.com, who graded it A-, writing "the Summer of Arcade has delivered a fantastic title that stands out far more than many big budget, AAA titles. Much like a reanimated corpse, zombie fiction isn't fading away anytime soon. While this may elicit a groan from some, Deadlight proves that the ubiquitous genre still has some life left in it."[12] Francesca Reyes of the Official Xbox Magazine was also impressed, scoring it 8.5 out of 10, and calling it a "frantic, dizzying, four- to five-hour rush"."[21]

Only IGN would like the main characters voice...

at least its a easy 400 gamerscore
You know, I was actually liking it for a while. I had avoided even the demo up until the GwG as it got a lot of hate, but I liked it. That is until I started hitting glitches. The platforming timing is totally off, needing to jump when in a normal game you'd be over the edge. I thought I'd ride it out and score those 'easy cheevies' everyones talking about. But when trying to get the 2nd handheld collectable I kept glitching out on a ladder turning my character sideways. And the checkpoints are totally separate from the 'save points,' I'd constantly loose progress when continuing the game as the save point was several minutes before what I had thought. I give it a big fat pass unfortunately.

...and YES the VO and cutscenes were complete shit too, I guess I'm still just a sucker for Z stuff...

Gonna try Deadlight tonight, I'll report my findings. Even if it is as bad as everyone says, I'm hoping I can at least score the 400 GS before I'm done with it.

A lot of people (including myself) are into GS because we got conditioned to get it back when we got free stuff. I got gold for a few months, contra, t-shirt, and about $150 worth of gift cards. We're still clinging onto hope that all that stuff will comeback.

EDIT: Kinect 2.0 is much better now than at launch. People can talk in the next room or vacuum and it still understands me.

Wow, so much hate for a good game.

Deadlight is survival horror that, to me, truly feels like survival horror. Unlike the constant zombie fighting in Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead, you actually have to know when to fight and know when to flee in order to advance to the next level. There are even moments where the environments themselves are the enemy. With the limited ammo and weapons and the feeling of what is going to be around the corner next, I see Deadlight as a breath of fresh air and wish more games were like this. Sure the difficulty and length of gameplay are questionable, but this game is by no means boring or bad.

Speaking of bad, I'm going to laugh so hard if one of the May freebies is Amy.

I think had Deadlight stayed on course with the first act it would have been better.  Thankfully I got the game free when it first came out & played it before it was released.  So I wasnt hit with any of the reviews to sway my opinions. I saw the screenshots & knew I wanted to play the game.

In playing the first act, I was hooked, I wanted more, it was fun.  It hit all the notes everyone else said: Shadow complex, Limbo, etc etc.

Then we get to the second act, its been a while since Ive played so my memory is foggy.  Maneuvering through some rat guys labyrinth, outrunning a helicopter, then there's the story which made no sense. It all just fell apart.  I still trudged through, because I wanted to see how it ended.

Story aside, then we had control issues. Randal wouldnt respond most of the time.  Jumps which you'd think you made fell short.  I remember a lot of dying on my part because of missed timing in those labyrinth or helicopter stages.

For free its one of the better arcade games, its not as good as dust though, but like most of you guys I have that one already too.

Its an easy GS, its relatively short as well.  It draws you in with that first act, but know it goes downhill after that.  You've played worse games, you know you have.  So imo just DL it play through it & get it out of the backlog, it really wont take that long & you wont be left with any regret in playing it.

You people missed the biggest point, it cost $125 million, MILLION!, to make the game. Good, bad that's subjective but the lack of sales were a cold hard fact of truth. E.T. for the Atari 2600 was a flop.

Either most of that money went to marketing, or it was embezzled. That's the only explanation. The whole reason it was so bad is because it was pushed out in like 4 weeks.

Yeah, I was just reading the wiki article and they paid $25 million for the rights to E.T., and the (one) developer got $200,000. That only leaves $99.8 million unaccounted for...

Are these numbers adjusted for inflation, or is this $125 million in 80s money?

I completely agree with this, I was sucked in with the first act, and then rapidly lost interest when I hit Act II. I tried to get back into it yesterday after a month or two away - I'm in Act II with the helicopter/rooftops. After replaying the same general section about 10 times, I gave up. The biggest challenge, for me anyway, are what feels like imprecise, loose, or overly complicated controls. It wouldn't be as noticeable if the game didn't demand certain actions at certain times to prevent death (I.e. jumping to a leg before a zombie grabs you, having to get over two fences in a row as a helicopter fires at you, etc).

But, I could just be terrible.

Completed the achievements in Banjo-Tooie, but have not acquired all the collectibles.  Beat the final boss short 3 Jiggies and 1 Cheato page.  If you're familiar with the game, it won't be difficult to guess 1 of the Jiggies and the Cheato page I'm missing.  I did pick up another Jiggy after beating the game by finding the last Jinjo.  The 3rd Jiggy has me stumped.  I know where it is, but getting to it is the trick.  When I started the game, I'd forgotten how large and intertwined the game's levels are, and I don't know if the path to that area is in the same level or linked from one of the other levels.  I thought I'd need to break down and check a FAQ a few times, but was able to track everything else down, so I'd prefer not giving in on this one.

One of my cousins had E.T. when I was growing up, so I got to play it a little bit, but could never figure out what to do.  Perhaps if I had been able to read the manual.  But I usually just played Dodge 'Em.

If it is 1983 money, that would be approximately $296,552,460 in today's money. Not sure that's correct, on my phone and moving lots of numbers around. If correct, that's a large chunk of change right there...

Edit: It looks like it was actually completed in 1982, making the numbers look even worse. Wow.
