What is everyone's go-to site for game reviews?
I usually use metacritic, but what about a specific site?
I've heard destructoid mentioned before.
I'm big on trusting Game Informer and IGN. If you find a website with scores you consistently agree with, you've likely found your source. That said, reviewer's tastes vary, so a variety of sources never hurts.
Your point about alternatives is 100% fair and right on point. Vote with your wallet.
Please, lol. The alternatives are just as bad. If you don't realize that then you don't follow the industry at all. This industry is overflowing with ego maniacs and most of the studios are guilty of one thing or another. In all honesty, this whole thing is beyond ludicrous. If we only purchased consoles and games from companies/people that had no flaws or faults then we wouldn't be gaming at all. We would all be sitting around fiddling our thumbs.

People have a right to their opinions and choices, regardless of how ridiculous those opinions and choices may be. I will simply leave it at that. The hypocricy is just to thick to breath in here.

This thread is going way off topic, but I'll add one more post to it. Your interpretation of what we're saying is completely wrong. I am not waiting on mother Teresa to rise from her grave and start creating video games (although that would be awesome). All developers have faults I am sure. Those faults however do not irk me as much as Mr Fish's, mostly because I am never aware of them. They're not as belligerent as him and don't choose to go out of their way to be complete assholes when the small voice in their head should be screaming "just keep your mouth shut".
I've bought John Romero's games before. Who has a bigger ego than him? I have no problem with how he acts because he doesn't go out of his way to be a dickhead. There's a difference between being an ego maniac and a mean spirited jerk.
Since now that you know why I take issue with this guy's actions, and you're so familiar with the industry, can you recall any other similar examples of a developer's non-game related personal conduct issues? Didn't think so........
Enjoy the game!

Destructoid is my go to game site. Their reviews are a little slow because they dont get review copies of eveygame, but i like their reviews a lot.

I HAVE PLAYED METAL SLUG

I KNOW PIXELS GRAPHICS

FEZ

YOU ARE NO PIXEL GRAPHICS

Damn I loathe this trend.

Edit: But anyways, downloading the trial of fez right now. From what I've seen im pretty sure Ill enjoy it and buy the full game (Yay free msp!)
IGN and Gamespot are my go tos. They tend to give a fair shake to the B-tier games and have good variety. Giantbomb and Eurogamer are my second-stringers. Eurogamer and IGN however are very susceptible to going overboard with fanboy-tier praise. I'm talking THIS GAME TRANSFORMS EVERYTHING SUBVERSIVE BLAH BLAH BLAH sort of wannabe Roger Ebert please take me seriously film critic stuff rather than a proper assessment of the game. IGN's Fez, RDR, and Witcher 2 reviews are all symptoms of this. (Don't get me wrong, I loved RDR and enjoyed parts of Witcher 2 but if you can read these reviews without getting ill at the sheer unbecoming tongue bath being delivered, you have a stronger stomach than I.)

It generally just takes a critical eye to see what sounds reasonable but is still up your alley. Again, average Gamespot and IGN and you're good in almost all situations provided you can sniff out errant scores well.
Fez demo was exactly what I expected it to be. I'm gonna pass for now.
Same. I'll pick it up for 5 in a few months.

Honestly, here. Between God Hand, Kane and Lynch and their review of Dead Space 2, I absolutely ignore IGN, and it's hard for me to take any "professional" review seriously because it's really just one guy's opinion. I don't know him or why I'd take his word for something. I'd rather look at a thread about a game and see a bunch of opinions at once, and I can look at their gamercards and see if we like the same stuff. I like the immediacy of it, too, because someone can ragequit and come right here and say "fuck this game," and that's their real opinion and it's not edited and revised and rewritten and published.

That said, though, I almost implicitly trust Mark from Classic Game Room. Of all of his videos, I've disagreed with two of them. The other guys he has on there now suck.

Didn't think so? Yeah, nothing like giving a person a chance to respond huh. Unbelievable. In all honesty, I could give hundreds of examples where people in the video game industry made comments that were equally in poor taste. Ever heard of Tomonobu Itaga, The man behind Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden? The man is infamous for making such comments. I could go on but there is no reason to waste anymore time on this topic. Warped logic is warped logic. Its like trying to convince a crazy person that he is crazy. Its a pointless exercise in futility. Your spot on with your last comment tho. I have thoroughly enjoyed the game.
5 minutes is plenty of time in this game.
After 5 minutes is when you finally get access to the most important aspect of the game, rotation.

Fez could not possibly be more bland. Wow.

I mean, I expected to hate myself for loving it or hate it but...

It's just... there's no there there. There's nothing. It evokes no reaction. I can resume playing it and quit playing it on a whim, as though it a stress toy on someone's desk.

Did you buy it , or just basing that on the demo?

What was wrong with the DS2 review?

I used to base all my with IGN but last year or two its kinda hit or miss. You either agree or disagree. Most part there usually spot on and metacritic is a good source as well. I think I have only encounter a couple games where I think there review is exact opposite of what I felt with the Game.

World Gone Sour, I will be getting this one when it gets on sale. It was fun. On a other note, I usually say stay away from any game Rebellion Developed (AVP, Rogue Warror, Shellshock 2) but I loved Sniper V2 demo, it was really fun I thought and can't wait till it drops. :)
After 5 minutes is when you finally get access to the most important aspect of the game, rotation.
Why did you only quote that sentence and not the rest of my (I thought) obviously sarcastic comment?

Trying out the Fez demo right now. At first I didn't care for it, but once I adjusted to the bizarre world turning mechanic I really liked it. Definitely going to snag when it goes on sale.

Not to get involved in the Fez's creator debate but how many of you not buying Fez bought Shadow Complex?
Did you buy it , or just basing that on the demo?
Why does it matter? I found the demo very bland, myself. I'm not going to buy the full game just to corroborate my opinion.

Also, I did not buy Shadow Complex, but I don't buy based on the creator's attitudes. Only when those egos screw with the business practices do I stray away.

Eh what the heck? Anyone else ever have their hotmail randomly blocked for no reason?

Logged in for the first time in about a week and it says i was blocked. No sent emails, no charges on my account, just makes me wonder. (Had the account for 4+ years too, had this happen before)
Why does it matter?
Because I'm interested in knowing if he's basing his opinion on the content in the demo or content beyond the demo.
The demo doesn't do the full game justice. Demos almost never do.

I didn't really care for the demo of fez, I think it will get better once I get into the actual game.

I also tried out the demo for shadow complex twice.. I can't even get through it, just boring to me. I don't particularly like shooters though.
The demo doesn't do the full game justice. Demos almost never do.
A demo is there to sell a game to someone. Yes in the sense of all features not unlocked etc a demo will never do the full game justice but if a casual gamer who may be interested in purchasing your game and is on the fence, doesn't buy because the demo turns them off, t's doing it wrong & it has failed in it's primary objective.

And especially for game as hyped as this, to fail to appeal to the masses with a good demo is ridiculous.

Bought Fez yesterday and I'm loving the game so far. Feels like a old school platformer with colourful and bright pixel graphics. Very relaxing and fun game so far with great style. :D

Same thing happened with my US account when I tried to log in on xbox.com with it. :/ Ah well time to make another I think. :]

Unlike other pretentious snobs here, I enjoy Fez's art design and wish that more games adopted that style. Having paid no attention to the media other than the same three screenshots recycled through blog posts, I was mesmerized just as soon as I started shifting perspectives. I was also really stoned.

Level design must have been a nightmare for this game.

I'm enjoying it, but i found myself thinking a lot about how damn hard it would be to design levels that work the way these do when you change perspective.

It's a great looking and sounding game for sure. And i've already played like 3 hours, so i'm definitely enjoying it.

This is totally quotable.

Yeah, it's nuts. The game's biggest strength exploration-wise (and its biggest weakness puzzle-wise) is that when I rotate a map for the first time, what I'm going to see is a complete surprise.

Same thing happened to me, but nothing strange going on from what I can tell.

I checked around in my account and apparently there was like 3 strange emails sent with weird links about 3 days ago. But other than that, nothing was changed or deleted, and nothing was touched on my XBL.

Still just makes me wonder. (And hate the fact you have to use Hotmail for Xbox Live

I think some people have a serious misunderstanding in regards to reviews. What their purpose is, who they are intended for, and ultimately what to take away from them. If everyone agreed all the time in regards to reviews, we wouldn't need 50 different review sites all reviewing the same games. For some reason there has been a serious breakdown in regards to the understanding of what subjective means and a significant percentage of gamers seem completely incapable of accepting opinions that differ from their own and that there is no right and wrong in regards to subjective opinions. They read a review that differs from their own opinion and they get all pissed off and start making demeaning comments toward the reviewer and website. Such things really speak to the maturity level of the gamers. Given there are a lot of young gamers out there and that may in fact be the problem.

yep no hotmail anywhere needed, you can use any of your emailaccount providers =O

Hilarious. I am slightly embarrassed to share my hotmail address with clients, but whatever!

I too thought you had to use an @live email addy to use all of Xbox.com features, weird

Add me to the ranks of the clueless. ;)

Fez seemed like a fun, snes style game from the 5 minutes I played of the demo. Will buy when it's half off for 400. Not cause I'm a cheapass(well, I am actually), but because I have such a huge backlog. By the time I'd get around to it in like 4-6 months, it'd be a Deal of the Week. I can wait

Plus you get the oddball luxury of playing the game after critical issues have been patched. Woohoo! I'll probably wait for DOTW also despite my high interest.
Bajinjo, I believe that was years ago - and they now let you use any e-mail address for your account.
That explains it then. I made my account back in 2007, and it said i HAD to use mine. Otherwise i'd have used my Gmail account in an instant.

Guess now i'll see if theres any sort of way to change my email address
I go cringe whenever someone gives me a hotmail address. Like time traveling to 1997.
"It's so hard, to say goodbye, to yesterdayyy...."

I think my hotmail address was created in 1997, before Microsoft bought them. I've had other e-mail accounts come and go, but I just can't say goodbye to hotmail. My current and last employer have paid for my MSDN subscriptions, which like XBL, had to be linked to a MSN or hotmail account. I know, I know, "cool story bro"...
