Humanity’s Destruction Priced At 800 Microsoft PointsMs. Splosion Man’s Accidental Creation Slated for July 13th, 2011
July 5th, 2011 - Austin, TX - The value of all life on Earth was originally placed at almost triple the amount of Microsoft points, but a surprise ruling from Twisted Pixel today cited a declining economy and a general disappointment in humanity as the root for assuring its destruction at the incredible price of 800 Microsoft Points. Minutes after Big Science Labs announced the capture of rogue experiment Splosion Man, all communications cut out. Unconfirmed reports of a “Pink Terror” led many to speculate on the existence of a “Ms. Splosion Man” - a second catastrophic experiment set to splode her revenge out from the laboratories of Big Science and into the world.
Humanity’s last brush with the apocalypse occurred almost one year ago, during the Great Meatening, a day remembered less for the terrible loss of many a scientist than for the vast flooding of delicious meat that rained down from the sky. Here now again, all of humanity rests on the razor’s edge - Big Science encourages all citizens to resist the sizzle of fresh tenderloin and mass destruction on July 13th, no matter the phenomenal value.
Ms. Splosion Man features bigger levels, pumped-up bosses, overhauled networking, ghost replays, and countless other improvements in a fifty-level single player campaign and separate fifty-level multiplayer campaign. Pick up Ms. Splosion Man for 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace July 13th here.
Though Ms. Splosion Man features online co-op and ghost data races against friends, the folks at developer Twisted Pixel are, like, really concerned with keeping you interested in their newest game. One such indication of this is today's launch day announcement that the "TMS" (or "Title Managed Storage" system, as explained here) will add "special rules and new content" to existing levels on a rolling weekly basis. Like previous TMS-assisted titles (Super Meat Boy, Monday Night Combat), no patch or update will be required for the new content to appear in the game.
There will be leaderboards specifically targeted at the TMS challenges, from which the studio will pull winners to award "real prizes and other fun stuff." It heralds a "new way of giving away free stuff to people who buy our games," says marketing director Jay Stuckwisch.
As a special bonus for Ms. Splosion Man fans, Twisted Pixel unveils today the first in a series of themed TMS challenges slated for the combustible heroine. TMS, or Title Managed Storage, allows Twisted Pixel to publish free Challenges for the community that are automatically available to everyone who has purchased the game. The Challenge shows up in the opening menus of the game, but only for the duration of the contest. Twisted Pixel has teamed up with Destructoid for the inaugural challenge, with many more Challenges planned in the months to come.
Everyone who participates in the Challenge gets ranked on the leaderboard, and has a chance to win a Twisted Pixel and Destructoid prize pack including a Ms. Splosion Man light-up statue and a special Mr. D-toid Bobble Head. The prize pack also includes shirts and posters from both studios. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places on the leaderboards will each win the full Prize Pack, and a random contestant will get a Twisted Pixel prize pack just for competing! The competition runs until July 31st, so get to splodin’ and top out the leaderboard!
Twisted Pixel is also pleased to announce we will be launching a FREE DLC level for the original Splosion Man. Play through the level that takes Splosion Man up to his initial capture. Unlike the TMS challenges that go away after a limited time, this level is yours to keep! Look for it under the Splosion Man downloads.
On this Cinco de Mayo, Twisted Pixel is launching the fourth in a series of themed challenges for Ms. Splosion Man. The challenge shows up in the opening menu of the main game, but only for the duration of the contest, which runs May 5th - 20th, 2012. Twisted Pixel has a special prize in store for the top 5 leaders in this challenge.
In “Splokour”, Ms. Splosion Man does her take on the physical discipline phenome: parkour. Gracefully guide the femme fatale through the whole level without ever once touching the ground. For every time she hits the pavement the game will add 10 seconds to your final time, so try your best to stay airborne. The five (5) fastest times on the leaderboard by 11pm EST on May 20th will win a Ms. Splosion Man plushie AND a copy of Twisted Pixel’s next Xbox title, which will be announced at this year’s E3 conference on June 5th!
