Because demos lie sometimes!

I need to check out this limbo demo at least so I can join in the love hate.
 
To be fair, the demos are built to sell you the title and most meet certain criteria, such as:

Has to be a tutorial type experience
Represents the "overall" gameplay
One achievement has to unlock automatically in the demo

For me this is sometimes misleading as that one achievement is the only one for a long while and the difficulty often cranks up or new gameplay mechanics aren't as fun. Asking someone who played the whole game will give you insight into what else to expext in the game beyond the demo.

I often feel XBLA titles are overpriced and I think 1200 points is usually too high for most of the titles. I mean they are fun, but they are ARCADE games...the definition of the word means kinda short IMO. At a good deal I don't mind a game that only gives me 3-5 hours of gameplay. I just got Outland for 400pts and for that price it is a great experience. Is Limbo good? Well I am sure it is good at a certain price.

Until some devs give us some old school JRPG titles in the vein of Crono Trigger, FF, etc. and you can get 25+ hours out of it I'm just not one to go over 600pts for any arcade title.

Just my opinion though.

I remember back when I was completely happy to spend $40 for those games on the PS1. With the stuff that's come out during the latest console generation, I refuse to spend more than $10 for a game.

I like Limbo as well. Of course, I didn't pay full price for it. Unless it's a game I feel like I just GOTTA have at 1200 MSP (those are few and far between) I wait for it to go on sale. Been having a hell of a hard time waiting for Bastion though.

I drank the Kool Aid during all the hype and positive reviews for Limbo and bought it day 1. They sold that $15 price tag completely on hype. I played through it ONCE and never touched it again. I'm not saying it was bad, but I really wish I waited and got it half off and even then I'd say it's def a $5 once-through type of game. I honestly wish I'd have gotten Limbo on sale and it's 100% the last hype game I'll ever buy. I'd love to been able to use those points on something like Bastion which I've been dying to play because I loved the demo, but refused to buy at full price.
 
what downloadable title is more critically acclaimed? maybe shadow complex?

i think that says quite a bit

unique, original, eerie, great ending, good puzzles

i don't know what else you could want in a downloadable title

yes we are cheap, but some games are worth full price

i am also willing to pay more for a game like Limbo because i want to see more games just like it

The only thing I find offensive is a CAG defending the price of a game whose value is highly debated on regular gaming sites, let alone one that's supposedly dedicated to video game deals and saving money.

I do, however, understand the need to support something you love as I have a complete 360 shmup library, including imports. I guarantee there's a few people out there that think I wasted money too.

I've read comments today from die-hard old-skool japanese-schmup fans
who are thrilled to finally get these games on sale.

If you really like a particular genre or style of game,
then it is okay to pay full price to support those developers.

I buy a few XBLA/PSN games every year at full price,
but everything else, wait for a sale.

Pretty much this. I bought Guardian Heroes day 1 because Treasure promised a sequel if it does well. I loved it on Saturn so I had no problem dropping the $10 on it. Now I'll probably wait for a sale on the eventual sequel but still, I will pay full price on occassion. I'm up to (and will probably finish out the year) 3 full priced purchases this year on XBLA.

Yeah, I was bored a few days ago just messing around on the Xbox Live website and came across the auto-renewal on/off function. Glad Microsoft did something right for once in terms of user preferences.

Loved the first 2. Can't wait for the third. It's top of my XBLA backlog atm (picked it up during the last sale) but I've got Oblivion I'm trying to finish right now and Skyrim and Star Wars: The Old Republic are demanding attention now too.

See if you have $1 for 1 month offer on your dash. Like others have said, canceling auto-renewal is painless now.

I'm interested to see the reception of Bastion on this board once it finally goes on sale. I don't think it will be nearly as polarizing as Limbo, but I think it might cause one or two arguements.

EDIT: I am just guessing that these will be on sale, based on last year's sales. Sorry, I did not mean to imply that these WILL be on sale.

Get rid of the rewards thing, you already made a thread for that. Also the crackdown 2 head and dragon age avatar shirt. I think by now everyone would of gotten it if they wanted it. I want to add something funny, but cant think of anything.

Bastion (along with Deus Ex HR) are my personal games of the year...Bastion is unlike anything i've ever played before, one of the few titles that really make me think of games as "art" and i especially loved the music...though my brother thought the narrator guy was kind of annoying.

Not trying to be contrary, but I disagree about both of these. Yea, there's a rewards thread, but it doesn't get bumped on a regular basis like this one does. Besides, it's only one small section. It doesn't really get in the way and it's kinda convenient.

The leftover sale stuff, like those and the cat and dog, is still gold exclusive. There are always new people signing on to gold and there are always new people here on CAG that may have missed them.
