iirc (been a while since i played it) your playing, expecting more, and then BAM big ass wave of water wipes you out..... the end. i mean wtf is that? lol
still, at $5 its worth it imo
Yeah I mean once you realize they're trying to set it up like Episode 1 then it's not as bad but I do agree.

I found the game fun to play, but I guess your $5 goes to how much you enjoy dynamic fluids. I also grabbed the game when it was tweaked and went to $10.

Played the PC version. At the end of it, you get
dosed with the evil nanovirus thing and develop water powers. You work through some really lousy shooting bits, climb through the plaza, throw some water at dudes, and then you fight scarface girl in a big turret thing by throwing stuff at her with water or something. Then you pass out. The end.

Wow, that explains the whole challenge room area they throw at you after the game.
I never got why you could manipulate water [only] in the challenge rooms, or, really, why they didn't let you do that in the game.
Hydrophobia got a free major update in December 2010, by the way. Apparently makes it suck a lot less, for those of you just going by the initial reviews.
Yeah, I played the demo after the update. I still wouldn't have paid anything for that game.

And that's one of my main problems with the game. It's not a trilogy, it's the first third of a game. They appear to be holding back anything interesting for the remaining parts. Of course when you can't play the rest and don't know exactly what's coming, that sucks. It's not even like they had the rest ready for monthly installments. They thought that people would pay $15 for what's probably the least interesting part of the game.

Thank god the Bulletstorm DLC went on sale. I got the game less than two months ago and so this is was the perfect time for it to go on sale in my case. I have to say I like the maps a lot better than the original maps that came with the game.

Anyways, I really hope that the Black Ops map packs go on sale. I picked up Rezurrection free since I had the Prestige edition, but I didn't bother with Escalation and Annhilation after First Strike, as I wasn't too impressed, but I wouldn't mind picking up the extra maps for a cheaper price. I also wouldn't mind the WaW map packs going on sale again as I haven't picked up any of them till this day.

Do you play online or are you talking about the Echoes maps?

The Pink Knight pack was finally released for Castle Crashers and it's free. I realize it's not a sale, but I think many assumed that it would be 160 pts because that's what the other packs cost and it was released on PSN for $1.99. They're also giving $1 for every download to a breast cancer foundation, so just by adding it to your queue you're doing good. I should also note that they also released a title update which adds avatar awards for those who like them.

The link doesn't work yet, but you can get it on the dash. edit: Link works

I don't own this game but was gonna d/l the pack based on your suggestion and your link doesn't work. I tried to look on the Castle Crashers xbox.com page but it's not on there either

edit: nvm I read what you said wrong. I'll keep trying later when it goes online
The link is bad, Louiedog.
The link isn't live yet. I made the same mistake thinking it was live because I read what he said wrong.

Thanks! I absolutely love Behemoth. Even more reason to support such great Devs.

Thanks for the heads up. Haven't played castle crashers in a long time, might have to pick it back up.

Thanks for the heads up on the pink knight. They also released another DLC pack with a new character for 160 points. Hopefully the Behemoth will give some codes away in the future as I managed to get the two previous DLC packs free through different give aways.
Do the sales also apply to the PC versions, too? I would like to get Minerva's Den.
Considering these are XBLA Deals of the Week I would assume no but that doesn't mean there won't be a coinciding GFW sale. However, Bulletstorm's DLC is not on sale for GFW this week so I would guess these are exclusive to Xbox.
Do the sales also apply to the PC versions, too? I would like to get Minerva's Den.
Finished Minerva' Den last week, fantastic piece of DLC. When you play solid DLC like that, or Fallout's, Mass E, it reminds you how good some of those add on's can be. Totally worth 800 points and a steal at 400.

:bouncy:

Yeah, I play online. The echoes maps that come with the DLC are somewhat better than the original too though in my opinion.

Sort of a "Sale"

Microsoft has announced the Gears of War 3 Season Pass (it seemed to work for LA Noire). It will include the first 4 DLCs starting in Nov and then releasing over the course of the year. Here is the thing. The price is 2400 MS points ($30) which MS says is at least a 33% saving over them individually. My math is not always great but I assume that the 4 will cost 900 a piece or roughly 3600 MS points ($45) without the pass. You also get some sort of liquid metal skin for your guns. See article for details. Not sure how I feel about this. $30 for DLC on the day you are spending $60 for the game. I also think GOW3 has had extra time to work on DLC since the release was delayed for financial and not development reasons so I am sure they are sitting on some of this. Hmmm.

Thu am not huge fan of paid dlc if they make it good i don't mind showing support everyone trying make a buck so show support for those you love an ignore the others if you want them keep improving upon their games

Was only a matter of time before they pulled some shite like this. Isn't paying for Gold enough for these people?

IIRC, the map packs for Gears 2 were almost always 800 points, except that last one. The real question that begs to be answered is ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE DEDICATED SERVERS OR NOT!!! Pony up and GET THEM already you slags. If they don't and we get the same monkey poop host stuff as in Gears 2, forget about it!!

Yeah I am assuming it will be 800, 800, 800, 1200 for the DLCs. The thing that bugs me the most is that they are saying some are from the campaign. I understand how it worked for GOW2 but this is the last game in the story. Cutting the story part just for DLC (they will say it has something to do with narrative or pacing blah blah blah) is really sleazy in my opinion. The Multiplayer I am fine with DLC since MP does not rely on story to be fun. Removing parts of the campaign just blows. Hell at some point we will start having to pay for the "DLC ending" or "Alternate endings"... I pay for Maps because they can be used over and over but when you are telling a story and leave out a chapter only to sell it to me after I finished the game is just not right.

Edit:Since I am ranting. I would also like to point out this game is shipping with ONLY 10 MP maps. To get an idea of how piss poor that is both MW1 and 2 shipped with 16 each and people thought they are greedy.

Stuff like what? Offering you a discount up front for future DLC? I am not seeing the issue with this offer. Gears 3 has already been confirmed to have dedicated servers.

These thoughts mirror my own. We're in a place now where many games, especially major releases with a heavy multiplayer component like this one, have DLC strategies planned out well in advance. Whether you like it or not, that's something that's here to stay. The online pass is just them telling the players what that plan is in advance. It gives the players who would buy it all anyway a discount and probably sells more DLC to people who might not by any or all of it, which means more players on the DLC maps.

The BIGGEST issue with this is the lack of information about what the $30 is for. They basically want you to pony up cash now for a product that may not even be done yet. Yeah you get a discount but on what? We may "trust" Epic to put out a quality product but the idea of paying for something without any knowledge of said product is dangerous. If they can get us to start paying for DLCs that are not going to be release until 9-12 months from now it begins to degrade the incentive to make the final bits better. Once they have your money there is less incentive to give us more back.
Will the Minerva's Den only be active tomorrow?
It'll be on sale for a week. Things often remain on sale until early morning the following Tuesday, but it's best not to wait past Monday night.

That has already basically happened at least once, that I know of. See Prince of Persia 2008, epilogue. Probably other times as well (anyone have any examples?). I didn't mind the alternate ending level to Army of Two...because it was free (sponsored by Pontiac).

On a related note, it really is a shame there isn't more sponsored free-to-the-consumer DLC. Though I think Pontiac got the shaft in that deal as I don't recall anything about them in it aside from when I was downloading it...so not much of an ad (then again, a couple years later I still remember it!)

Don't see the fuss over the season pass thing really. DLC was coming out regardless and everyone knows it. This just gives people the option of saving some points if they buy it all together. The price is pretty high, but if you had bought every Gears 2 map pack as they were released the cost would have been well above 30 bucks. If you're worried about the contents of the pass, you could always wait until all 4 packs are released before deciding to buy it.

Exactly! I bought all the Gears 2 DLC as it released. I cant remember all the prices off hand but I do remember spending a shitload on DLC. Personally I'll be buying the Gears 3 season pass, since I'll be buying the DLC day 1 anyways. might as well save a little. EPIC has always released quality DLC, so I'm not to worried about them putting out some BS.

I haven't played it, but Tomb Raider: Underworld has an epilogue with some important story points / closure spread over two overpriced Xbox360-exclusive DLC levels.

I'm glad that only the vanilla Gears 2 is on sale, beacuse i just got the All Fronts Collection maybe 2 weeks ago. If the DLC were on sale i would have been like

imgres

Well i can't say that i didn't expect Epic/Microsoft to do this, but every company wants to make $$$...

I'll wait and buy them when they're on sale, just like i did with the All Fronts...

the Gears 3 season pass is not a limited time deal, so you can just wait until every DLC is released and then decide to buy it.

I will be playing Gears 3 a lot since it's my game of choice, so this is a good deal for me. I would have bought all the map packs anyway

If I have to choose how to get my DLC I guess a discount up front is better than waiting but I still have reservations about the model. EPIC will most likely come through but if this was a COD game people would be bashing it more than it is getting. They are not holding a gun to my head and in the end I will most likely go this route because I like the game series and like saving my money, but I still worry. I just want more information about what they are going to put in the DLC before committing $30 to it. You can bet now that this DLC will not see a sale until at least next year for the individual Map Packs.
If you plan on getting all the maps, how is it a bad thing?
It is only a bad thing if said maps are crap. Again I trust EPIC but lets not ring this type of model's praises too loudly. Giving your money before knowing the whole of a product (especially a digital one) will only work to dilute that product further down the line.

A good example of this would be the MW2 map packs. What if you paid for these BEFORE they told you that it would include 4 rehashed Maps from MW1? That was my main reason for not buying those map packs. It just sets up the possibilities of companies providing less in DLC if they start preselling them.

Just realized that the whole buy 1600 get 160 thing is still going on so tempted to buy Deniable Ops and something else since I already bought ME2 DLC earlier in the month.

There's nothing to suggest that this a limited time offer and if previous season passes for LA Noire and MK are anything to go by, the passes will still be available even after all the content is released. If you're really that concerned about what the contents will be, then why not wait until either more details emerge or they are all released? Nobody is making you pay the $30 right now.

Like I said this is the route I will go most likely. Not having a sale "window" definitely makes me feel better about it. I am still not in agreement with the idea of a DLC "presale". The more money they can get us to give upfront before getting us the product will result in future "deals" with less content on the disc. Just like they are pushing online passes and release day DLC this is another method to remove content from the disc and put it on my hard drive where it is no longer mine to trade/sell.

Only add-ons right? I bought both Bulletstorm DLCs but I also got Gatling Gears...I assume I would still need 800 and not 400 to reach the limit.
thank you so much! i've been waiting for price drops on these DLCs for a while.
hmm... would emailing out price alerts be in future plans?
basis,

You previously asked about emailing out price alerts, I still have not integrated email alerts like I want, e.g. alerts only for the items you are interested in. But i have created RSS feeds and twitter integration. For RSS I am using feedburner and feedburner lets you sign up for email alerts.

For more info see the following post on my site:
http://xbldb.com/2011/08/29/feedburner-and-twitter-integration/

Give it a try and let me know what you guys think. Tomorrow should be a busy day.

Curious to see what Activision's sale brings us. *Starts August 30th to September 5th*

Hoping for a discount on some black ops map packs..
