Only WAW Map Pack 2 and WAW Map Pack 3 from the Call of Duty Games have achievements right? So there's really no reason to pay the extra 200 points for Map Pack one (especially if you're not still playing heavily online)?

Yes, map packs 2 & 3 will net you an extra 500 points total, but map pack 1 has no points attached to it. If going strictly for achievements, you're better off buying the packs individually
 
I know it would have been unrealistic, but saw the thread title and thought Black Ops map packs were on sale. I bought First Strike for 1200 MSP, but with MW3 on the horizon I won't invest more than 800 points on any of the other packs. I don't plan on buying MW3, but I am sure many Black Ops folks will and it'll be awfully quiet on those servers.

That's actually a great idea. But what avatar items cost 40 msp? A pair of shoes maybe??? I don't think you can sort avatar items by price either....

There's a big list in the rewards wiki thread.
 
I know there's a pair of sunglasses and possibly some flip flops that cost 40. I think they're either under Burton or Hurley maybe.

Also, is it just me or is the AI in the Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection incredibly cheap? They just walk backwards to avoid you and then when you get close, they spam a low kick.

that's why i don't play the classics on the xbox. UMK3 is hard as hell for me until this day and i bought 2 years ago before it got taken down. I do love MK9 though, and hope that they add more dlc.

Played this for hours with my friend last night and it was really great. Old school hard and had us really trying to beat it. I would suggest it for on the couch multiplayer. I don't know if xbox live multi would be as good.
 
The arcade versions of MK have always had ridiculously cheap AI as they were designed to eat quarters. This is specifically true in UMK3, as after the first couple matches the AI starts reading your inputs hardcore and countering whatever move you do before you can even finish executing it. In order to win you have to resort to using cheap tactics of your own and it's just not very fun. I think this Kollection is exposing a lot of people's rose colored glasses for the original MK series. The games just weren't ever that good and they don't hold up among current fighting games.
 
The reason people like the arcade versions of Mortal Kombat is for their versus play. The single-player has indeed always sucked. Multiplayer holds up in the Kollections, locally at least.

Most of us didn't play it to take on the AI. Most of my memories (and probably other people who experienced MK in the arcade) come from playing other human players. That is what made the original MK games classics. Hell, that's what made ALL arcade fighters good, in my opinion.

Agreed, but most would argue that MK's gameplay leaves much to be desired for a competitive fighting game. It was always more about the gore and fatalities than solid fighting game mechanics. There's a good reason why Super Street Fighter II Turbo is still being played at tournaments 17 years later and the original MK series games are nowhere to be seen.
 
Well MK was never at tournaments even back at release, until MK9 showed at EVO anyway.

But yeah MKAK is cack. ¬_¬
 
Okay, so there are plenty of 40 MSP avatar items you could essentially get for free, but are there any that are cheaper than that? I know occasionally they have a promo item which you can "buy" for 0 points? MS don't specify a point limit on the items to get the reward, anyone know of any available items like this?

MW2 is still the second most played game on Xbox Live. I don't think you should worry about it getting anywhere near quiet on the Black Ops servers for the next year or two.

Debating on either biting on two 40 points avatar items or grabbing two nicer 80 point items, essentially getting a b1g1 on them. if anyone knows of some cooler 80 point items please link me!
 
I'm working on posting 40 below and 40 to 80 lists on my site. I don't track all avatar items so the lists will only cover game related ones.

BTW got LA Noire today and loving every minute of it. :D

As for 40 MSp items. i got a DX hat and a John Cena " You Can't See Me" hat for 40MSP each. Hopefully i get those 80MSP back so it would equal 2 free items for me.
 
I received a email today with my code for Crimson Alliance and the code for the characters. Even though its not on the Marketplace, I was still able to download and play it.
