Konami's X-men Arcade is now on consoles for the first time ever for 800 points ($10). It's 6-player and has drop-in online multiplayer and multiple difficulty levels. It's a side-scrolling beat-em-up that plays like TMNT Arcade. Because the arcade version supported so many players and enemies on-screen at once, it actually used 2 screens side-by-side to display all the action. With modern widescreen TVs running at much higher resolutions, the dual-screen setup should translate effectively to a single HDTV screen.

I know I spent so many quarters playing this game as a kid. That said, I'd gladly drop $20 to have this, as it's been in my short list of must have XBL titles(along with the Simpson's Arcade and Goldeneye). Super stoked for this!

After the drubbing Turtles in Time Reshelled took from fans (though I liked it), I seriously doubt they'll attempt the same thing with X-men. X-men Arcade never really looked that pretty (the backgrounds in particular are very plain), but it threw a ton of characters on-screen. That novelty should work even better with the game being displayed on a single widescreen HDTV. But I wouldn't mind optional graphical filters like Capcom's XBLA games use.

I posted about it in my slackass Marketplace thread. I have been waiting for this for a while now. Hopefully it won't turn into the wreck TiT:RS did (the makeover was nice, but if you are selling nostalgia, why take out part of it?).

IGN preview

IGN's preview reveals some cool details about the XBLA game. Multiple local players will be able to join online games, so you can have four local people and two online players all in one game. Most interestingly, you can select to play the Japanese version of the game, which has easier difficulty and a few other differences.
I bet they'll overprice it like there's no tomorrow. Here's hoping they don't.
Bet it's $15. They know people would buy it.

The game is supposedly out in December according to IGN and they "conveniently" didn't announce a price... so money says its $15 and they want the hype to sink in so people will be rabid enough to grab it no matter what.
You only posted this after seeing it posted on my Facebook, Paul. :p
Your saying that cause I posted it to my facebook before you! :p

I'd buy it for $20 easily!

DAY. fuckING. ONE.

What the fuck else is there to say? If you've never played this as a kid you should consider firing your parents Seto Kaiba style.
Needs a Final Fight style double-pack. This plus the Simpsons arcade game or Dungeons and Dragons arcade game. Yes, fucking, yes!
Man, that would be the end all of all arcade game double packs!

X-men Arcade and The Simpsons back to back! Dang.

Would drop 1200 MP on that, no problem.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Definitely grabbing it as soon as it comes out, I'll even be the Dazzler if I can play this on my 360.

Didn't expect this. Def buy lol.

"I am Magneto, master of magnets!" lol

I'd like to see some diff characters though. Psylocke could probably even just be reskinned Dazzler.

It'll be $15 because they know that people will pay $15. Everyone's been begging for this forever. Actual drop in/out co-op makes it that much more amazing. Games like Castle Crashers and Scott Pilgrim should be ashamed not to have done that.

Scott Pilgrim is so much fun, but I seriously wish I would have read enough about it to know that it didn't have ANY online co-op. I just played the demo and loved it, so I bought it.

Online 6player drop in/drop out co-op makes this worth $15

1200 wouldn't surprise me, since Activision actually holds the Xmen rights if I'm not mistaken. There will probably be a larger service fee to license it back through Konami.

Doubt it'd be as high as 1600 MSP as not even MvC 2 was that much and that game had a much stronger fan base.

*EDIT* Wow I confused this for the Genesis release but nonetheless, still looking forward to it.

Yeah, there's no way it'll be more than 1200. 800 is most likely (this is an old game after all), but 1200's a definite possibility.

BTW, Dazzler's not getting replaced as the IGN article states that the license prohibits Konami from adding new content.

Thanks for posting the video, RedJoey!

There were two awesome Genesis X-Men games but this was never released outside of arcades.

And its a bit much to assume this would be $20. There isn't much on XBLA at that price. A $15 estimate with a hopeful $10 view makes the most sense.

But I want to play as Ultimate Dazzler:

This is the number 1 game I've been waiting for to come out on XBLA, so, fuck YES! I spent SO much money on this game as a kid, my 2 cousins and I would spend hours playing this.

I was always the Dazzler, I liked her special! SO happy they're not replacing anyone or changing graphics or any shit like that. Day 1 purchase no matter how much the price.
Also coming to PSN.

Thread title should change to reflect this.
No, we're in the Xbox 360 forum, so this thread only covers the XBLA version. It would be handy if I could just make a thread that covers both versions, but that'd go in the General Gaming section, not here.

The OP could use more YouTube videos and reviews of the original along with interviews from kids in the 90s on what they think the pros and cons are of this game.

The OP is tricked out and will continue to improve as more information becomes available.

Incidentally, guys, the ass above this post rated the thread low, so please try to help get the stars back up.

I was worried that XBLA was done with the arcade ports. While they did get a little bit on my nerves back when that's ALL THAT WAS BEING RELEASED, I never wanted to see them go away completely. This is good news.

Those Genesis games were definitely no "awesome" (especially the first one). If you haven't played them in a while try them again. Seemed cool at the time but do not hold up well at all. Well, aside from the absolutely brilliant way you beat the game by physically resetting the Genesis when you are urged to "reset the system now!!" (thinking it's something you have to do in the game). That's some Eternal Darkness-level game interaction right there.

I probably ate them up and loved them, playing them after the cartoon Saturday mornings haha. I know for sure I didn't like the first one that much but I remember the second one being lots of fun co-op with my brothers. I just remember using a lot of cheat codes and how hilarity would ensue using Nightcrawler to accidentally teleport into walls/holes. My opinion on that game is probably skewed

Now the SNES X-Men game from Capcom, now that one I can see holding up. I remember being amazed now they added fighting games moves to a beat'em up. That game was hard too.
