Xbox 360 Game Install Sizes and Loading Times: 900+ games! (Celebrating 5+ years!)

Hi everyone, first post (and sorry a big one). Thanks SynGamer and to all the contributors, as this list has helped me a lot! I'm always looking for performance gains, and any way to have less heat generated by not running off DVD is a bonus. (Hadn't even crossed my mind till reading this thread) So here's my contribution back. I did some performance tests on some games that were listed in gray. For reference, I have a 120GB Elite and did each test twice to get an average time.

Syn, you should do 1 or 2 things with the list:

#1 - Change the color of the non-supported games (Black on black is not a good idea)
#2 - Put the non-supported games in its' own spoiler section

Yeah, lack = not good. I changed them to red, they stand out better.

Hey, SynGamer, you forgot DCI Edwardo's findings in your last update. Now that the page count is at 31, I'm re-posting them for you here:

Added. We're up to 364 games, i'm pretty sure no other list comes close to that, nor do any of them have performance ratings ;) Keep up the great work everyone. It's too bad MS didn't have this done already.

Okay I have a question, I have installed GTA IV, Mass Effect and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 to my HDD but I always forget to go into my games area and select play from hard driver. I always just hit A on the disc tray. The thing is the game runs like it would while playing off the hard drive; quickly loading times, alot less noise from the disc drive.

Whats up with that?

And thank goodness. That would be obnoxious if we had to manually select it (as if we'd want to run it off the blender attachment :p )

Namco Museum Virtual Arcade - WHITE - Amazingly enough, the game will still access the DVD anytime you choose a game from the menu. What's more interesting is that the game goes to a black screen as the sub-menu for the game is loading if you do an HDD install. If done from the DVD, the load happens but you can scroll through menus for a good 5-7 seconds before the loading of the sub-menu actually happens.

from DVD
loading Dig Dug Arrangement - 5 seconds
starting Dig Dug Arrangement - 11 seconds

from HDD
loading Dig Dug Arrangement - 5 seconds
starting Dig Dug Arrangement - 11 seconds

Viking: Battle for Asgard - GREEN - While the initial load hasn't improved much in an HDD install, loading levels certainly does.

from DVD
initial load - 10 seconds
level 1 - 29 seconds

from HDD
initial load - 8 seconds
level 1 - 20 seconds

Disney Sing It! High School Musical 3 Senior Year - 6.7GB - BLUE - Almost green since it's a 5 second difference between DVD and HDD loading.

from DVD
initial load - 12 seconds
loading song - 6 seconds

from HDD
initial load - 7 seconds
loading song - 1 second

Sorry for the double post.

----------------------

Battlefield: Bad Company - BLUE - on average a 4 seconds improvement if loading from HDD.

from DVD
initial load - 6 seconds
level 1 "Welcome to Bad Company" - 16 seconds

from HDD
initial load - 5 seconds
level 1 "Welcome to Bad Company" - 11 seconds

------------------

Blazing Angels 2: Secrets Missions of WW2 - GREEN - a full 10 seconds savings when loading from HDD.

from DVD
level 1 - 30 seconds

from HDD
level 1 - 20 seconds

------------------

The Bourne Conspiracy - BLUE - just a 3 seconds savings from HDD.

from DVD
level 1 - 15 seconds

from HDD
level 1 - 12 seconds

------------------

Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway - WHITE - not much change here.

Very, very sorry for the quad posting. However, I'd rather violate a bit of forum etiquette if it means delivering new info for the list :)

---------------------

Velvet Assassin - 5.7GB - BLUE - Decent savings if run from the HDD.

from DVD
title screen load - 3 seconds
level 1 - 11 seconds

from HDD

from DVD

from HDD
initial load - 6 seconds
song load - 1 second

Too Human - WHITE - No change at all.

from DVD
game start - 5 seconds

from HDD
game start - 5 seconds

-----------------

Star Ocean: The Last Hope - WHITE - Each load screen seems to barely take a second from the DVD, meaning that HDD installation wouldn't really provide any differences outside of noise reduction.

Summer Athletics: The Ultimate Challenge - 3.4GB - BLUE - The first load screen you see has a longer load time if done from the HDD but loading to events does benefit from the HDD as opposed to DVD.

from DVD

dumlaox, you are a BEAST with reporting the time differences. Do have any time whatsoever to even PLAY these games? Also, do you actually have all of these games in your collection or do you just have mega awesome connections?

I still play the games. I'm not hardcore about them in the sense that I'll completely wipe out all of the achievements or get 100% on them but I play. After all, my Xbox 360 is my weapon of choice followed by the Wii and PS3. I try to grab all of the games possible if I'm having fun with them but if cheap sales don't hit or if it's not a game I want, GameFly has been my best friend :)

Mostly I just want to see this list completed as much as possible. I have a ton of these games either on my GameFly list or sitting on my shelf so I figured I should contribute as much as humanly possible if others can't do it.

------------

Raiden Fighters Aces - WHITE - No change in loading time from either medium.

from DVD
loading Raiden Fighters - 3 seconds

from HDD

Texas Hold Em: 22 Seconds

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - 5.7GB - BLUE - Loading levels from the HDD is 4 seconds faster than from DVD.

From DVD
Initial Load - 18 seconds
Instant Action: Volcano - 25 seconds

From HDD
Initial Load - 16 seconds
Instant Action: Volcano - 21 seconds

-----------------------

Concerning the Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1 disc, you might want to try an install performance test anyway. Using Texas Hold 'Em (XBLA download) as an example, I got a 4 second load time before the title screen appeared. Loading a Single Player game took around 3 seconds. Much shorter than the 22 seconds you've got in either instance. I'm just curious to see if an HDD install will help that game at all since everything else doesn't seem like a benefit will happen.

From HDD
