Xbox 360 Game Install Sizes and Loading Times: 900+ games! (Celebrating 5+ years!)

Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3 - Green. Load times in between songs seem 5-7 seconds shorter than disc loading.

Top Spin 3 - Green. The benefit is only about 1-2 seconds shorter that disc loading. However, the stuttering during the initial court fly-bys is lessened and it seems a if loading pieces for character creation is a tad faster.

Golden Axe: Beast Rider - Green. About a 4-6 second drop in loading times between levels.

TNA iMPACT! - Green. 3-5 seconds faster than disc loading between matches.

Big thanks. I almost left Top Spin 3 white but a slight load time improvement + less stuttering + faster loading during character creation leads to an overall improved performance/experience.

Keep it coming!

This whole... installing of the Oblivion GOTY second disk on the hd... and using the original (standard version) oblivion to play the expansion is rich. I wonder if this is possible for all games that released an "expansion." (CoD4 in particular)

Fight Night Round 3 - Green. A good 5 seconds less when loading matches.

It might be too late to ask and, if so, I apologize. Is it possible to use another color aside from white to indicate that there is no change between running from disc and HDD install? It could prove beneficial for those that might want to figure out what games haven't been tested for HDD performance yet.

I've been meaning to fix that (colors wise). Finally took the time to do so and it looks better, IMO.

Guitar Hero 3 - Green. It started out bad with an initial load that seemed longer on HDD than on disc. However, the loading from menu to song was about 3-4 seconds faster from HDD so Green it is.

The Club - Green. Load times from the menu to a level are almost cut in half.

I second the color change. It looks super sweet this way.

Now that I've got my Elite in the house this list is really handy. Thanks for maintaining it SG.

I'm going to pick up Burnout Revenge again now that the load times are a bit reduced.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe - Green. I didn't notice the 2-Player vs. black screen as reported earlier but I did notice that load times between fights were shortened by about 3-5 seconds.

Crash: Mind Over Mutant - 6.0GB - White. Aside from a quiet disc drive, load times are exactly the same.

BTW, SynGamer, I know I asked you about this before but I found the complete list of games on WikiPedia. I copied it to my PC and am in the process of editing it so that the list they already have includes HDD install sizes and HDD performance results. If it's OK with you, once I finished what I got, may I post the info you already gathered on WikiPedia? I'd still love the master list to be located here on CAG forums but having a WikiPedia entry is also nice.

Thanks. If you could, try to leave a reference/source link to my first post when you edit this on wikipedia. I don't care if you say it's being maintained by me (SynGamer) but a link would be nice.
Check out this article that compares many AAA games DVD versus HDD times for initial load time, and various in game load times, as well as a 20 gb vs 120 gb comparison. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=290745&page=1
Thanks, COD4 is now green. Mass Effect will remain white simply because the texture popin is still present and the load times are on average only 3 seconds better. Not really worth 6.8GB if you ask me (though i still have it installed :p).

Sega Superstars Tennis - Green. About a 2-3 second savings loading between matches if you load from HDD.

Thanks SynGamer. Here's he WikiPedia link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_360_games

It's not the complete listing of the game sizes and performance issues since any game from the letter G onwards is missing. However, it's a good start and a good way for your list to get out there to those who might not frequent CAG. The good thing is that anyone can go edit this page. If anyone else happens to put up some info there that's not on your list, we can report it to you so that your list can have the extra info as well.

It also shows that there are some older titles that haven't made this list just yet. Hopefully the community will get to them ASAP.

For performance, perhaps change 'Good' to 'Better' and 'Bad' to 'Worse'.

Because somebody had to do it....

High School Musical 3 Senior Year DANCE! .....[3.4 GB]

And yes, it does load faster and run quieter.

Hmm..somebody on the deals forum (the thread about getting the game for $15 from buy.com) claims that Mass Effect improves a few issues when installed...

It does and it doesn't. Texture pop-in is still present and random, while load times are slightly better in some areas, but not really noticeable.
Haven't noticed any difference between playing Civilization from the disc or from the HD.
Thanks for reporting :)

Decided to try and help out.

Kung Fu Panda - 5.2 GB - Load times decreased significantly. 5-10secs per level. Video seemed to be choppier though. Overall, I'd give it a green.

SynGamer: Thanks for the suggestion. It's been reflected in the WikiPedia site.

Smash Court Tennis 3 - 3.4GB - White. If there was a change, it was barely noticeable.

Hour of Victory - Green. 7 seconds faster when loading from the HDD instead of from the DVD.

Don't know if anyone tested it, but for shits I popped in the Fable II LE Bonus Disc. 3.4 gig to install, doesn't seem to affect the videos at all.

Is there anything that's actually playable (or required) on the LE disc?

Nope. 2 behind the scenes videos, and an art gallery. Just thought it was interesting that the disc could be installed at all. Compared to other bonus discs, it's bare bones, but most bonus discs aren't worth much to begin with.

Does anyone know if you install a game to your harddrive then delete it later on whether it deletes any saved games or other saved data in association with that game? thanks

When you delete a game, be sure to go into the game folder itself (Settings>Memory) and deleted the game file (the only one that is 3.4+GB). Otherwise, when you try to delete the game from the list of games you have, it will confirm that you are deleting X number of files (usually at least 3) which is BAD!

Dead or Alive 4 - White - Loading is reduced by 4 seconds when going from character select to a fight. However, when going back to character select, it takes 4 seconds longer to go from fight to character select. On Disc, that transfer is almost instant.

Table Tennis - White - No change whatsoever.

I think the safest way to delete a game from your HDD is to have the disc in the system, and bring up the control panel for the game on your dashboard. There should be an option for Play game from hard drive and on the bottom should be Delete game from hard drive. I did this for NCAA March Madness 08 and when I replayed it a few days later, all my save files were still intact.

When you go into your game's saved files, look on the one that says around 6 GB.

And it will probably say its the Game too. delete that. :p

Should highlight NBA 2k9 green. Cuts significant loading time from initial start-up and other loading scenes. Browsing uniforms is faster, and before a patch it fixed a lot of frame rate issues. After the patch, the frame rate is more or less the same, but still feels smoother. Some evidence say it improves online gaming as well.

Shaun White Snowboarding - Green - About a good 4 seconds shorter when loading between mountains.

And in case you missed the earlier edit:

Table Tennis - White - No change whatsoever.

Thanks. It's probably easier to just make a new post than to edit a previous one because odds are i'll miss it :) By the way, we are now at 307 games!

Awesome news! Checking over the list, I see stuff like Blacksite and the last 2 Tony Hawk games make the list. I know there's more games that need to be there and performance needs updating as well so the work isn't over yet.

On a side note, someone just ripped out every entry I made so far in the WikiPedia page that listed HDD Install Sizes and Performance. All that hard work because someone thought it wasn't necessary (at least that's what the history notes tell me.) Now I'm debating whether or not to make a seperate WikiPedia entry so that the information gets on there somehow.

I think a separate entry linked to the NXE would be best. I read the note on the wiki page and it was cramped already.

Blitz: The League - Green - A good 5 seconds faster loading from HDD than DVD.

Blitz: The League 2 - Green - Same result as the first game.

Earth Defense Force 2017 - Green - At least 15 seconds faster when loading between levels from the HDD

Fracture - Green - About 3-5 seconds faster loading it from the HDD.

IMO, i think we should change this format a bit.

Make it Green if it makes a HUGE difference
Yellow if it makes a slight difference
White if it makes no difference
Red if it makes it worst.
And whatever's not listed, keep it grey.

In other words, i suggest the Yellow for slight, cause alot of games are getting green when in reality, they arent a BIG difference at all.

For example, Dark Sector id give it a Yellow.

:) i personal think this format would be better, that way people know with the little hard drive space they have if its gonna only help a little or a lot!

Thanks. :)

PS For example, anyone who listed a game that only loads a few seconds faster, i think should be in Yellow instead.

So what would define slight difference and what would define huge difference? Some guidelines need to be set if any changes are to be made.
So what would define slight difference and what would define huge difference? Some guidelines need to be set if any changes are to be made.
If the game loads faster then 5 seconds on normal loading, id give it a green, if it loads faster but no more then 5 seconds or less, id give it a yellow.

Well, if someone wants to go through the thread and make of list of games that should be yellow, feel free to do so. I agree with the system, i just don't have the time to go through the thread to find games. As for the system, my suggestions below;

Green = 6 or more seconds faster
Yellow = 3-5 seconds faster
White = 1-2 seconds faster
Red = 3 -5 or more seconds slower.

Here's what I got from the forums so far:

GREEN
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2009
The Last Remnant
The Orange Box
Grand Theft Auto 4
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Guitar Hero: World Tour
DiRT
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Guilty Gear 2: Overture
High School Musical 3: Senior Year Dance!
Rapala Fishing Frenzy
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09
Golden Axe: Beast Rider
The Club
NBA 2K9
Project Gotham Racing 4
Kung Fu Panda
Hour of Victory
Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3
Earth Defense Force 2017

YELLOW
Fable 2
TNA iMPACT!
Blitz: The League
Dark Sector
Blitz: The League 2
Fracture
Top Spin 3
Call of Duty 4
Shaun White Snowboarding
Fight Night Round 3
Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
Bioshock
Unreal Tournament 3
Gears of War 2
Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise
Sega Superstars Tennis

WHITE
NCAA Football 09
Civilization Revolution
Army of Two
Table Tennis
Dead or Alive 4
NCAA Football 08
Smash Court Tennis 3
Tales of Vesperia
NHL 09
Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon
Crash: Mind Over Mutant

RED
Halo 3

Which means anything listed Green in the original list but has no time associated with it will have to be re-tested with this new classification system in place.
Updated. I like having actual numbers for people to use for reporting performance.
Awesome, me too. and thanks for going with my suggestion! :D im starting to feel like i belong to a forum finally for once. LOL

Oh yeah, i havent played this game, but you left off College Hoops 2K8.

Um, do you have the size of the game? I only add games to the list if people report their install sizes :)

Do you happen to remember what color that game should be? Looking through 20 pages of posts isn't exactly fun :)

Thank you Dr. Pizza, dumlaox, and SynGamer, I've been wanting a more robust performance criteria for the games.

Dumalox, i havent played it, so i couldnt tell you what color to put it in. lol or the size of it.

But if i get the game, then you will know. :D
