Xbox 360 Hardware/Accessories Questions Thread
Anyone know if theres any way of getting just the cord in the play and charge kit without having to pay the extra for the battery in the kit?

Reason im asking is i was trying to get the stupid vacum sealed package open and ended up cutting the wire with my scisors.
That sucks. DVDEmpire has the play and charge kit for $15 and change. Order two more accessories (or DVD titles, etc.) so you have 3 items total (some items are excluded, though) and you get free shipping.

Anyone else not get the achievement for completing co-op mode of PDZ if you weren't the host of the game? zew and I beat the game the other day on co-op, and he received the achievement, but I didn't. Was just wondering if it happened to anyone else.

I'm probably going to do the DVDEmpire sale one more time to pick up a few more things. I can order the Play and Charge Kit and keep the battery and send you off the cable. It's only $4 more for the kit than just the battery with their pricing. Would you be interested? PM me, but just to let you know, I haven't traded before if that's a concern to you.

Two questions.

For the new 12-month Xbox Live cards, you don't need to enter a CC anymore do you? I'm hoping it just goes to Silver once it expires, since I didn't have to use a CC to get the 1 month free trial.

Is there anyway to transfers saves between profiles?

So nobody has the backwards compatibility update or any idea how I could get it working again without wiping my hard drive? Its been about two weeks and no backwards compatibility. :(

I just got a premium, and the part of the hard drive that says "HDD" has a lot of what appear to be scratches right out of the box. Did anyone else have this on theirs? I expect they're not supposed to be completely pristine? That's what I hope anyway.
Anybody get the MadCatz Headset? My step-bro got me one, I can't hear barely anything in it.
Is it for the 360? Call support and tell them, maybe they will replace it. Or, get the official, which is only 20. (also sounds lower then the normal xbox headsetIMO)

No i'm using it for the original Xbox, but it's quiet as hell. Tried moving it around and it gets maybe a 'hot spot' but still remains quiet.

Concerning the VGA Adapter: How does the system look hooked up to an LCD Monitor?

We've got guests coming in for the New Year's with lots of little kids. I know for sure they're taking the movie room to watch the New Year's shows and the game room for playing Xbox/GameCube since the kids will be runnin' around.

I'm not about to set out the 360 for the runts to mess with so I'm setting it up in my room. Does it even look decent or is the adapter not worth it? I'm guessing I'll have to get a female-female adapter to connect the cord from my LCD to the VGA adapter right?

Thanks for the input.

My love for the 360 has grown by leaps and bounds...

I FINALLY GOT THE PICTURES AND MUSIC STREAMING TO WORK!

Here's what happened:

As you know, I got a new 360 from Microsoft after my last one crapped out.

Just for fun, I decided to try and connect to my computer. As usual, I got the "No Computer Found" message... but after a few seconds, I see the name of my comp flash on the screen. I select it.

"Firewall may be blocking access to your computer." I look and my new 360 is denied on WMC. I allow it, and the 360 won't recognize it.

I finally found a setup that worked after several tries. Here's what I did:

Instead of going to this site:

http://www.xbox.com/pcsetup/

and downloading the file XboxXPSP2-ENU.exe (7.69 MB), I went to the following site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/devices/wmconnect/default.aspx

and downloaded the file wmcsetup.exe (6.44 MB).

I installed Windows Media Connect from that wmcsetup.exe file. I then went to the Control Panel and clicked on Windows Media Connect. It opened up the program and asked which devices I wanted to allow. The page was blank. I clicked Next, and chose which folders I wanted to allow (I picked the default ones, like My Pictures, etc.).

I checked Windows Media Connect in my taskbar. No devices found.

I opened the ports that Microsoft said to allow, in my router. I turned off Norton Firewall temporarily. I went to the Media blade and selected Pictures. The name of my computer popped up on the dashboard. I finally connected!

Then, I turned on Norton Firewall. A message popped up saying that Windows Media Connect was trying to access the internet. I put "Permit Always," and it's been working like a charm. Music and pictures stream perfectly now!

The only downside is that the 360 is listed in Windows Media Connect as "Unknown Device" (Allowed), but as long as my 360 can stream stuff, I don't care what it says. :D

Thought I'd write what worked for me because maybe it'll work for someone else who's having a similar problem.

Hot damn...worked for me too. Thanks

How big is the difference between the S-Video AV cables and the regualar red/yellow/white cables? And is the difference worth 30 bucks??

Yes it is worth it. Big difference imo

When I first opened WMC, it said something about it not being installed correctly, happens every time. And now, when I go to Setting, foldersharing, start, it says "Folder sharing could not be started. For details, use even viewer in windows to check the log of system events." Any ideals?

ok, i may be a tard and just setting myself up for a flame-fest....

but how do you switch themes? i see that i have some on my hard drive but don't know how to apply them.

thanks in advance

btw, when i checked my memorty it said i only had 11 gigs left and i haven't d/led anything significant...is that b/c of partitioning, etc?

Yup, I think only 11GBs are set aside for game saves.

Regarding the themes, there might be an easier way in the Dashboard (out of game), but I've only been able to change it with a game disc in. Pause, pull up the Dashboard and click your own Gamertag profile. It should pull up an option to change themes amongst other options.

You can hit the "X"box button on the gamepad anytime and there will be a preferences option.. it's in there. Or when you are looking at pictures on your pc or device, there should be an option to make it your background.

Thanks. I figured there was an easier way to it considering how well thought out the user interface is in the first place.

I bought a Play and Charge kit, but haven't tried it out yet. Does anyone know how long it takes for the kit to charge up the batteries in the controller?

It plus into a USB port? Can I plug this into my computer while I'm using it to charge up my wireless controller?

thanks guys, i got it working. so if you put pictures on the 360 you can set them as a background? like making your own theme?

You can use a pic you upload as your background, yes. And any usb port will charge that controller including usb ports on your pc.

awesome. i tried it out today and it worked fine. it's a lot easier to charge the controller using my PC then keeping my 360 on all day.

you dont need your xbox on, it just needs to be on when you plug in the charge kit, but when you turn it off, it doesnt turn off completely, it partially stays on, with like 1 of the fans running, to charge the controller

What ports are you suppose to open?

How loud is your 360? When there isn't a disc in it mine puts out a little bit more noise than the original Xbox. However, when I put a disc in and start to play, it's louder than my DVD burner at full speed. Also, My system gives out an electrical burn type smell (kind of like the smell you get when working with a soldering iron). Did yours do that when you first got it? I've been playing it for a week but it still does that.

The system is pretty loud when a game is in there. There's a very loud whine to it. But then I just turn up my sound system and all's good. You know, I think I did have that smell before, but I don't notice it now.

BTW, about the Fight Night Round 3 demo and the line in the bottom half/middle of the screen: anyone else get that? I know someone here posted here and MS said it was a problem with the system itself. It's visible when it's against the blue ring floor.

Thanks for the response. Yeah. I tried the demo out and I can see a vertical line in the middle of the bottom part of the screen.

Ive got one more question about the AV cables. I just got another TV that is not HD but does allow for the green/blue/red video inputs. Is the video quality im getting from that above or below a S-Video cable.
What ports are you suppose to open?
Sorry for taking so long, Z. Haven't been here in a while.

Open these ports in your firewall/router:

2869 TCP, 10243 TCP, 1900 UDP, 10280 UDP, 10281 UDP, 10282 UDP, 10283 UDP, and 10284 UDP

That's component, and it's above. It's a huge improvement over S-Video.

I got a play and charge kit for my 360 and when its in the troller it faintly lights up the four lights on the troller (while its not plugged in or turned on). I tried removing it and then reseating it but didnt work to make the lights go off.

I tried it in another troller and got the same thing. So I took it back to WM and got another and its doing the same thing. Is this normal?

Like the other guy, i got the premium package and it came with component cables, my 32 inch Flat Screen Philips has 3 sets of standard cable plug ins, and on the back of the tv, has all the colors for the component cables, if i plug them in will the games look better at all, or will they even WORK at all? Will the resolution go from 480 to 720 or stay the same? details? i tried it once, i might be doing it wrong but i think the picture got worse maybe? and i recieved no sound.

Your TV has the red/green/blue inputs in the back, right? If so, make sure they're plugged in right, and the picture will look much better than S-Video or Composite. Your resolution will not go up. If you have an HDTV that supports 720p, then make sure that the switch on the actual component cables is set to HDTV. If you don't have an HDTV, make sure it isn't set to HDTV. That may be why you're having problems.

So just go ahead and plug all 6 cables in? Red/yellow/white/ Red/Blue Green

And dont put it on HDTV settings on the 360 or the cable switch? leave it on standard settings and itll look better? Crisper? will the sound change? ya i suck with electronics ;-;

Best Video Settings:
Use Red/Blue/Green for Video
If Hi Def TV, turn switch located on cord near XBOX to HD
If not HD, leave it on TV
Do NOT use Yellow Cord (Composite Video)

Best Sound Settings:
Use Optical Digital Cable from base of plug near switch to 7.1 Surround system
If you do not have a receiver that takes that cord, use the Red/White Audio
If you do not have the cable, but one (MS sells one at EB for $10, much cheaper than
a cable at Best Buy)

In short, for video you have yellow (Bad) OR red/blue/green (Best)
For audio, you have red/white (OK) OR digital audio (best, and only way to get true 5.1 surround sound)

Of course, I use a VGA cord to go directly into my projector and the digital audio into Surround Sound. COD 2, D-Day invasion was absolutely insane with Bass cranked up!

theeipi...you use the VGA Adapter. Have you tried PGR3? Mine is stretched vertically and won't do widescreen whereas Kameo, PDZ, and CoD2 do it just fine.

No, only use the Component cables. Put them in the Red/Green/Blue inputs. If you have a Standard TV, make sure the cables are on the standard settings. If HD, make sure the switch is set to HD.

It will look a lot better.

All I could find was this:

" Note When you use the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable, the screen format settings are automatically configured."

My projector is fullscreen, and although i can get things through component or s-video to show widescreen with black bars, with VGA cord i have no options.

Thanks for looking that up. Guess I'll just deal w/ PGR3 being stretched 'till I can move back to the regular setup.

thanks for all the info saucey, I was able to set mine up using the info you supplied.

Regarding Windows Media connect and playlists on windows media player.

Is there anyway to add new songs to a playlist and refresh the list on the 360? I have a list with 300 songs and I updated it to 450 songs but my 360 still shows 300 songs. Is there no way to update a list, do you have to create a new one each time, or is it just me?
