Hey guys, i just picked up my xbox 360 250gb S console. I have been trying it out and will give a few impressions, including how hot this thing gets. First off, the wireless adapter works great, very easy to find my network. The console itself is beautiful, loving the buttons where they are touch sensitive. I cannot hear the console when on dashboard, but i can while playing games and the disc is spinning (still not nearly as loud as old models). There is one big issue that i AM having with this however: The thing is whisper silent, but it is also Flaming Hot. Look at the picture. See the big vent on the side? That's where all the heat is at. It's not on the back like the previous console, it doesn't seem like the fan is pushing out the heat very well. This could just be me, but i had someone else touch it to verify that they indeed thought it was outrageously HOT. Let this be a warning to buyers! .. Also i do understand this may not be a problem at all. My Wii does get hot with wii connect 24 (But not as hot as the 360..). My Mac also get's rather hot (still not as hot as the 360..). I'm just throwing this out there.

Fix: Make your 360 sit horizontally. It will help the 360 ventilate better, and won't get nearly as hot!
Now I have internal conflict. More than enough credit for this, but wanted to pre-order a couple 3DS for the kids. To top it off, the Xbox has been showing signs of possible failure in the near future. Decisions...decisions. Anyone know what you need to trade in an Elite? Cables?
You need power cables, AV/HMDI cable, the system with case seal unbroken, and a controller.
I'm honestly more interested in picking up an Xbox 360 Arcade for $150. Sounds like a deal.
It really is. Considering the used HD market will be flooded you should be able to get a 120GB for $50-$75 and be set!

I love all the "$299? fail" posts. I'm gonna go ahead and assume microsoft's pricing people know more about what to price it at than a bunch of cheapasses.

I'll have to upgrade to this eventually before my hearing is blown out by the jet engine of my current elite.

Yes I completely agree. I thought $299 was a very good price point. Upgraded hardware specs for the same price as what is currently on the market? You can't beat that...

It's nice they finally included WiFi in it. Rather than paying like the $70 or whatever it is now for the adapter.

This is great timing for me... I'm currently on my 4th original model Pro (thank god for that extended warranty). Now, I've been getting disc read errors every time I load MW2 and I've been just about ready to drop kick the damn thing. My big question is how to get my game saves to the new xbox without buying that ridiculous data transfer kit and how long is the warranty for this new slim mcguillacutty.
Slightly OT, but here's the launch list for Kinect:

http://i50.tinypic.com/rtq51d.jpg
Wow, just wow.
Do you see a single, must own game in that list???

Good luck with that, Microsoft.

You announced it last year at this time.
You aren't releasing it until November of this year.
And that is your lineup?

I wish the R&D they invested in this device would have went to the "720" or 360 2, or whatever.
That, I could get excited about.

This is almost as deflating as the PSP Go was.

I want it but i have a perfectly good jasper, a homemade 250gb harddrive, and madcatz wireless adaptor. the sound still drives me crazy when listening to podcasts during games. maybe i should invest in better speakers/headphones instead?

Well, yeah, Sony can. It has a Blu-ray player for the same price. And they've been bringing it hard with PS3 exclusives over the past year or so.

I bet there's a $50 price cut on the 360 Slim before Christmas. They'll let the nerd lust buy up a bunch of these before the holiday season, then drop the price, or bundle it with Kinect, to help sell more.

Let's not pretend MS is giving you a $70 value because they are finally including wi-fi. It's just they are no longer ripping you off

WHINE BITCH MOAN

Oh sorry... just want to keep my posts in line with most of the rest of those in this thread.

Anyone actually gonna mention something like a store that got them already, or what quantities might be like? Sheesh...

My 3 year old Xbox finally red ringed, so this is looking pretty nice. I just hope it doesn't develop any widespread health issues later in life. Plus it matches Nata...Kinect!

Four things I will wait on before getting this unit.

1. Allow early adopters to this "Slim" to play with it to see if there are any bugs/kinks that need to be worked out.
2. Allow Ben heck and other sites to take it apart to see the new hardware and compare it to the current 360 models.
3. Wait for EB to have a great trade in promo from your old 360 to the slim.
4. Wait for the white/grey version...as black isn't sexy anymore.

Gamestop just posted Kinetic(sp) pricing.
By no means is it official, may be a placeholder...

$149.99

May I be the first to say...

BwwwaaaaaHAHAHAAAHAHHAHAAHHAHAH

Good luck, MS. I hope that is the price with all 15 games bundled in to it.

If they are so proud of their product, they should have had that price plastered all over the place.

Apple does it.

149.99 for kinect lol shoulda just ate the cost and priced it at 19.99 to get it in as many homes as possible i wont bite on kinect maybe on 360 slim

i've been holding on trying to get a new 360 i'm glad i waited, i might have to pick one up in a few weeks.

So why is Microsoft pushing black so hard these days? I always liked the clean look the original white the 360 looked like long before the Elite and this Slim came along. Just seems as if they are trying to be more "edgy" and look like Sony's stuff.

Was anyone watching the GameTrailers stream after the Microsoft press conference? Aaron Greenberg was showcasing the new slim to Geoff Keighly and says that current $299 models will be discounted to $249, and current arcades would be discounted to $149.

let's not start on this sony vs xbox bullshit in here.

Zimmy - you ever stop to think that perhaps you're not the target market? Sure, those 15 launch titles are underwhelming to me but I gotta think that it's no mistake that EA Active is on there. You got the female market with that stuff.

-"Honey, can I pick up a Kinect? It's $150"
-"No"
-"But it supports an awesome workout program."
-"Hmmm... ok"

The Biggest Loser is mine day 1!!
any chance there will be deals for trading in my 120gb! i really want it this, especially if its rrod proof

hopefully the hardware wont be a piece of shit, if its rrod proof and e74 proof, i will get a 2nd 360
There's the $64 million question... I guarantee Microsoft SAYS it's RROD proof... but I can also guarantee you'll be in a for a surprise if you believe that! ;)
I lol'd at the fact that they gave them away to the press.... semi-obvious attempt to bribe them after an extremely weak showing, IMO.
"He who spends most, wins." - hasn't that been the M$oft gaming plan since the first xbox?
Pretty amazing that they kept the release date for the new console under wraps, but no reason for me to pick up the new console. When my current 360 fails - and it will eventually - THEN I will run out and pick up the new version. Until then, I'm quite content with my Fat Xbox.
That's my biggest problem with the $h!tbox! You shouldn't EXPECT it to fail like that... and yet you should, knowing the 360s history. Just sucks. The part I don't get is the general, "Hyuck! I'll just buy me a new one!" Me? I'll just go with a competitor that sells functional hardware that lasts more than a couple of years.
Sorry they didn't show Milo so you could rub out a few knuckle children. I bet that would have changed your mind about their showing.
That's a pretty pissy response to someone's opinion! I love that you have to insult "Milo" in order to insult the original opinion! Who the hell is Milo again?
It looks very weak. 4 workout games, 2 dance games, 4 sports games, and a bunch of games that barely pass an arcade download.
This is actually perfectly in line with current 1st place winner, Wii; and our First Lady's 'Let's Move' anti-obesity campaign. M$ is looking for more marketshare and shareholder value.

Core gaming, for this is not.

It doesn't look that great, but it's got wifi built in finally and the promise of better reliability. The latter remaining to be proven, of course.

FYI, they aren't calling it "Slim", rather "The New Xbox 360". Good move considering that it doesn't appear smaller at all, at least not at first glance.

I actually like the idea of Kinect dance and fitness games. I am, however, skeptical about how well it will work in my living room. I hope I'll be able to borrow or rent one to test it out before buying.

From the IGN Feed of the post Press Conference event:
"IGN: Your old hard drives and old memory units will not be compatible with this slimmer 250 GB model."

Hmm... may have to hold off on getting this now.

Finally, someone who understands expanding market share instead of just "why can't I get this for freez?"

Btw, I think Kinect succeeds or fails based on if it works, not because of price point. $150 is nothing if it works well.
You'd be willing to trade in 2 Xboxes for a Slim?
yea i bought an elite off somebody 2months ago for $60, so i have 2 xboxes. I only use 1.

But what reason does a "hardcore" gamer have to pick up a Kinect in the first place? I certainly wouldn't get one just to buy casual or female-oriented games (especially since my wife doesn't game in the first place). I didn't see one game that I wanted enough to try to bribe my wife to get.

the ps3 and 360 are not exactly the same price for the same stuff. 360 $299 for the new slim (no blu-ray of course, but that doesnt bother me at all) and the ps3 IS $299, but it only has 120 gb hd. now you could argue that there are $350 bundles with the 250 gig hd and games that they are a good deal, but they are not the same price. if you ignore the fact that the ps3 has a smaller hard drive (on the $299 console anyway) then someone could still argue that the arcade console is only $150 now, or the elite at $250. its a never ending argument between fan boys, and its funny, but also very annoying when every single thread turns into a shit fest.
My question is will I be able to use my unused transfer cable to move my stuff to this new xbox?
Yeah that would suck if you cant transfer your data. my 20 gig xbox is still running strong. Been waiting for the slim, but I think Ill continue to wait til around Christmas time and pick up a sweet bundled deal.

I think a lot of people are so CAG that they seem to forget that the game industry, like every other industry is a business at it's core.
Exactly, I am perfectly happy with my jasper right now (though a little part of me wants this new model) I will wait it out and see how these new systems hold up first.
Thanks for the common sense.

The 31 year old in me says, wait it out. Your MW2 jasper Console with great Nidec fans is fine, no need to give Bill Gates more cash...right now.

These consoles will be out for awhile and if you wait you'll get a deal with games included etc.

The 12 year old in me says...I WANT ONE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reading some common sense on here helps me slap that kid upside his head and tell him to wake up stupid.

...I dont know if my mature self can hold back the kid if I start to read in the comming weeks that the newer console holds up like a brick, reliability wise, compared to the old one though.

If this is true then I will definitely be passing. Thats some bullshit right there!:bomb:

EDIT-I may have misunderstood, we should still be able to transfer data over though right?

well that scenario's for the guy who likes to always get the latest toys.

I'm sure there'll be some cool "core" games for the kinect eventually. When I was little, I always dreamed of something like Kinect for a football game. How sick would that be?

By no means am I saying that Kinect will be a slam dunk. I'm skeptical on the whole thing for MYSELF. But I find it funny that people already slam it. I'm sure those same people slammed the wii as a kiddie console. (Meanwhile Nintendo is taking those kiddie/female dollars to the bank.)

Can everyone stop with the fucking PS3 posts? This is about the new Xbox slim. Go jerk off on the ps3 somewhere else. (And yes, I own a PS3.)
For the same price as a PS3 (without the blu ray) no thanks.
+1

I just got rid of my 360 and did the switch to PS3. Built-in wifi was only a small part of my push to switch. Lack of Bluray was the deal breaker, especially since I play less and less video games as I age...

250GB PS3 Slim ($350) vs 250GB Xbox 360 Slim ($300), I'd still give the edge to PS3. Bluray for an extra $50, not to mention you can get the $300 PS3 and throw in a 500gb-1tb drive for $50-$100...

PS3 I still see as a better deal.
