Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2025-03-15
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

The only thing about this is that Sony doesn’t seem to be making an effort to make the disc drive widely available. There’s shortages and scalpers selling disc drives because they are so hard to find.

Maybe they’ll resolve that supply issue but that’s one of the reasons gamers at least have a conspiracy theory that Sony is doing that on purpose. The reality is probably somewhere in between.

This would mean either the PS6 would need to have a similar design language to the PS5 so things look pleasing/elegant, or there's a box that the drive sits in and connects to the console. From a design point, neither option looks good. Look at all the design complaints the PS5 has now. People accept it, but they don't like having a giant oversized router next to their TV. If the PS6 comes with a detachable disc drive, Sony might keep the internals the same, but it's highly unlikely they would let you use the old drive on a new system.

I have a feeling that the next generation of XB & PS will be only be discless. An external disc-drive add on that attaches through either USB or some other proprietary connection will be available for any physical titles that happen to be made and all legacy games (and possible movie discs). This add-on drive will become the standard for all future generations, until the companies decide they can save 25 cents a console by not including the plug anymore.

If this happens, they might offer a limited time trade-in program for any non-delisted 1st party games, where you send in the physical disc and they will grant you a digital code of the game. This is sort of what WB did in the last great format war. When HD DVD died, as long as you had proof of the HD DVD, WB would sell you a Blu-ray copy of the title at a well below retail cost, plus shipping.

I think what Sony is doing with the limited supply of the disc drive is fine and makes business sense. I get the feeling they already understand the demand for it but still want to allocate most of the supply to the PS5 (disc) though I am curious what is the actual split between disc and digital PS5s at the moment. At some point it'll be a non-issue.

With regards to forward compatibility for the disc drive, I did mention designing around the old disc drive would be an issue and admittedly I'm not sure they would want to constrain themselves in such a way. The best compromise I can think of is to release some kind of USB adapter should they allow forward compatibility. The only other reason I can think of for the drive not being forward compatible is if there's an advancement in the BD format that Sony wants to push (i.e. 8K). We shall see if 8K actually becomes a thing four years from now. Maybe BD100 is enough for now.

Even though Sony (during the Jim Ryan era) said "we believe in generations", I think it's kind of wasteful to produce a removable drive and not be able to reuse it on the next disc-less machine. If not the PS5's disc drive as a baseline for forward compatibility then it's gotta be PS6. I believe Sony will continue to support (but not push) physical media for their next console so at least we agree there'll be some kind of drive attachment. Sony gotta think of those in places with limited connectivity like nuclear subs or a third world country (Don Mattrick didn't 🙃 )

Feel free, just trying to have a conversation.

Of course I have an agenda, it is to pay the least amount of money to play and own the most games while having the best experiences going forward and future proofing

I believe that value aligns with this site, that's why I post here with that agenda. I'm sorry if this insults you, but you probably visiting the wrong site if you are trying to buy Indy physical copy at launch price to "own" it.

I'm happy most of my friends/co-workers own PlayStations and still like physical media. That just means whenever I get a PS I can just borrow their games or Steam family share the PS exclusives that come to PC . PS3 is the only PS I've owned and the only physical games I have for it were part of the 2011 Black Friday bundle (LittleBigPlanet 3 and Ratchet and Clank All 4 One). I haven't spent a dime on it. I will admit that I would consider getting PS+ Extra here and there (ideally during promos so maybe once a year) to binge whatever first-party happens to be on the service that I can't get my hands on.

While I do understand the sentiment that we come here because we are cheap asses, I also understand convenience is an important factor and people are fine with paying for whatever conveniences them the most.

Lots of more free stuff coming the next few days for GPU members

Very happy I didn't bite on Titanfall 2 Ultimate Edition for $3 ages ago. :)

I'm okay that I did. The game is amazing.

The digital vs physical talk reminded me that I listened to this talk two weeks ago and I found it to be very insightful in laying out the current landscape of the gaming industry

Chris: What are some of the biggest changes that you see coming in the market that developers should be aware of today?

Jen: It's a great question and I think it's gen Z and gen Alpha, so you know people who were born in the late '90s to early 2010s gen to current day. This demographic is so different from us and how we grew up and their expectations and especially the emotional connection that they have. They feel things so deeply, they feel fandom, anxiety deeply. You know I think we are of a certain age where when we were growing up, we were worried about a nuclear bomb, well that was more of a theoretical worry. Gen Z and gen Alpha they are worried about global warming because they can see its effects all around them and I think it's easy to underestimate the anxiety that causes someone who's 10, 15, 20 about really what kind of planet they will have left to inhabit, so they are growing up with all of these feelings with a connected socialization system that is unlike anything that we've seen in history.

That is amazing, it's also terrifying and so what we see with this audience is that they identify as creators, they expect connection, they hold their people or brands or products that they are fans of, they hold them to a very high standard and if they feel like those people or products or brands aren't acting in a way that is consistent with their values, they will change that fandom even though it's a core part of their identity. Chris, you made this great point that people don't identify as like a punk or a goth, they identify as a Swifty and I think that's so insightful because it really gets to how people have turned being a fan into part of their identity.

Chris: It does feel like a fundamentally different thing with the those two generations Alpha and Z, how does that for game developers, what does that mean they need to think about differently?

Jen: So many things. So, first of all how these Generations discover content is very different. They use Tik Tok and Instagram as their search engines not Bing or Google and now they're starting to use chat GPT more and more. You see these Generations adopting AI at a faster pace than I think anybody would have expected and they use chat GPT for anything they can think of whether it's give me a recipe for pasta, or you know tell me the right way to code this in Unreal, it's really astounding how AI has kind of become this always on assistant and coach for them. How they discover content, how they play content, they expect to be able to create in their content how they adopt fandom as part of their core identity, also the devices that they play on. So, about a third of gen Z/gen Alpha players are omni-platform, they play on mobile and PC and console and handheld and that really changes their spending patterns. They spend about twice as much as the rest of the demographic. So, while they are smaller in size, they're a significant minority, they drive the majority of spend.

Interestingly when you look at people who are not omni-platform, they tend just to play really only on mobile, and their spending habits are very different. So you have this audience that sees gaming as a crucial part of their identity, as a crucial part of their entertainment and their expectations are that they are able to play the game they want, where they want, how they want, when they want, with whoever they want and that's so different from kind of the traditional walled gardens that you used to see in the games industry but we really got players setting the expectation that look they want to play with their friends and they don't care what device their friend has and we as an industry had better take note of that.

Chris: I think it's a really interesting demographic shift. How does an individual game developer have to think about things differently if they're wanting to make sure that their game appeals to Gen Z and Gen Alpha?

Jen: That is a billion dollar question. I think first and foremost is thinking about how your players are going to find your game. I mentioned Tik Tok and Instagram but there's also the value of word of mouth and one of the things that I would tell game developers when they were considering game pass, but I think this is true for every game developer these days, is that you've got to be really deliberate about three things. You've got to create an amazing first hour. The first hour of your game has to be something that grabs people out of the box because there's so many choices for entertainment today if you don't drive that amazing first hour, you're going to lose them. It used to be that somebody would spend 50, 60, $70 on a game so you knew they would give you a certain amount of time to really catch their attention and that's just not the case anymore, so an amazing first hour. The second is plan a viral marketing plan for Word of Mouth marketing. I mentioned that people find their content on Tik Tok and Instagram, where/what are you doing in your game to make your game streamable to really help drive those great little shorts on Tik Tok.

David Gardner from London Venture Partners who said time to First laugh is a key metric that they look at and I think that's spot on because it's how people are streaming your game, how people are putting your game on social media, how they're talking about your game amongst their friends that's going to be an incredibly powerful marketing Force-multiplier and you've got to think about that in the game that you're creating. You know we heard today from Maria Cornelius from Arrowhead talk about Helldivers 2 and how she said, "yeah I know people hate dying but that's why we've got to make it hilarious". They did such a great job and that was something where you know, an event that in game that you would normally hate they actually made amazing, and I think that's such a powerful lesson for game developers. It's not about avoiding pain, it's about making the pain fun, making the pain instagrammable or Tik Tok or something that you want to really share and talk about with your friends. Then there's monetization. I think the traditional monetization models are, they're not dying, but they're changing and so really thinking about how you can engage and monetize your player not just with one single purchase but on an ongoing basis is absolutely critical.

Chris: Is ongoing monetization the only model?

Jen: it's absolutely not. I think what's important is knowing what your model is going in and if you are making a game that retails for $70 and there's no further monetization, great, awesome, good luck to you. If you are making a free-to-play game and you are relying on advertising, okay, great, awesome, good luck to you. But I think these days more and more you're seeing people be more creative with business models and that can be a really good thing because we're seeing the consumer appetite for $70 games is being pretty challenging right now and there's so much great competition in that space and same with the free to play, we're seeing so much competition in that space and so really the fundamental question is how are you going to stand out, how are you going to get people talking about the first hour of your game, how are you going to get people discovering your game and how are you going to build that discovery-engagement-monetization cycle.

Chris: I think what's interesting, and you kind of hit on it before is these people who are the Swifty Gamers, or you know Gamers who in these two generations approach games, approach their fandom in a different way and it's a much more serious part of their identity, they might not look at microtransactions you know in the olden days people were like "horse armor, what's that", you know like they were really opposed to it. Today I think like if players are engaged with the content and love it, they're less afraid to just keep spending and then that eventually becomes sort of evidence of their love.

Jen: I think that's right and like the reality is that for people who are creating a 100-hour game experience, the large majority of your audience is not going to finish those 100 hours. So the question then becomes who are those last 30 hours for and does it make sense to have the same business model for everybody or does it make sense to take a different approach and give casual fans enough content so they feel like they got great value and great experience, but give your core fans, your core audience a way to continue to consume content and frankly to pay for it. Again, I'll use myself as an example, I would so happily buy any DLC for any BioWare game or any Atlas game, you put me back in Tokyo with the Phantom thieves and I will write you a check. I'm super, super happy to do that, most people don't feel that way, they should, they don't, but you know to me the question is okay how as game developers, how can we find a way to engage those fans and a way to do it that is sustainable from a business perspective. I talked about really the role of a business leader being to find a way to connect the player to the game. I think that's really important because you have to not only connect the player to the game but do it in a way that supports game development as a career.

Nice! All EA stuff but I’ll take it for free.

Also mentions that there is a 5-hour trial for Dragon Age: The Veilguard now.
I played a bit of DA:V hoping I would not like it but it is pretty fun. Once this game drops to the $20 range I will pick it up for sure!

This just feels like a bunch of talk unless you know how to design or support successful games based on this info, which I would argue Xbox leadership does not.

Also started BG3 over the weekend, only got about 3 hours in. 1 hour probably in the character creator learning about the races and classes lol. Went with a Githyanki Warlock. LOVING the game so far. Was nervous after I bought it thinking "did I just burn 60 bucks". So far so good, thanks to those that steered me in that direction over Veilguard. After seeing most people have 100+ hours play time it might be the only game I play all of 2025 😆.

I tried it out when it was on Game Pass. Can confirm it is doggy doo doo.

Like allot of games, co-op makes it slightly better, but in turn it turns a below okay game into just okay at the very best. The cooldown to do nearly any action in the game killed allot of the fun of the game. As in they overthought it and the game pays for it. Me and my friend's I think only made it 1/3 in or so before thinking we had better things to do.

Anybody ever redeem reward points for MS credit, spend the funds immediately and then have the point redemption(s) voided?

I redeemed points last night for $3 and $5 to get Reky before it left sale and a code for Rayman Legends XB1 for my nephew for Christmas. Points deducted, credit in my account, so I made the purchases. I saw my point balance go up for the purchases, even got an Xbox message that I earned 19 points for buying Reky. Do some searches, and then my balance jumps up as though the redemptions were never made. I then get a couple emails from Rewards saying "We're reaching out to let you know we ran into some issues with your order. As a result, your order has been voided. However, your point balance has not been impacted."

My MS order history shows, in order, the Rayman code with status Gift sent, then Reky as Completed, then the 2 redemptions as Pending. Wondering how this will shake out, and how long it will take. Will the point redemptions go through again, will they revoke the store purchases or process the store purchases through PayPal? I suppose another possibility is I keep the points and the purchases, but I doubt that would happen.

I played through the campaign once on Gamepass and then deleted it. It was ok but I thought the enemy damage scaling was terrible in single player. I only played a handful of dungeons in coop. It maybe ok for like $5 but I would recommend passing on it. There are many better hack and slash games available.

On a fun gaming note I finally found all the disguises needed to compete in the secret underground boxing locations in Indy and it was so satisfying to parry and punch all of the Champions. The hand to hand melee in Indy is a blast and I love a satisfying parry in games.

Indy and Space Marine are my two favorite games with a good parry mechanic from this year. Both handle the parry systems well.

Stellar Blade is probably best parry of the year.

I’ll have to do that and get in those boxing rings. Still working on the main story (currently doing all those cog puzzles). And need to travel back to a few places, particularly the Vatican as I want to do all the side quests. But it’s been a blast. Think I will be moving it up to my top GoTY.

So I've noticed over the last couple of months that I am getting gifted subscriptions on twitch. I just go on twitch for the Alienware stuff. I don't even watch what's going on. What are these subscriptions and why am I being given them and what am I supposed to do with a subscription?

It's just a way for a channel supporter to give money to the streamer. It incentivizes your engagement and encourages you to continue supporting with your own funds. If you engage with the channel, it usually has bells and whistles like special emotes and whatever.

If you're just streaming to tick over minutes for Alienware, the only benefit you'll likely notice is a lack of ads that block opening the new widget right away.

Hate to beat on the same discussion, but since you broght up convience.
I just don't see how buying physical has any "convience" these days.

There is just too much game time wasted with physical.

Just imagine to change discs for all the game pass releases this year

Likely gifted subs. If someone decides to gift subs but not to specific people, they randomly go to whoever. I think it priorizes current viewers, then current followers, then literally random Twitch users.

A disc that isn't a botched beta build allows you install a game while offline, avoid eating into the datacap many people have, or even just install faster if you don't have fiber speeds. Having the option to rent, borrow, loan, sell, and buy used/discounted games is certainly a different kind of convenient than a digital file tied to an account that is generally locked to you and whatever whims the platform allows for gamesharing.

While I do admit having digital installed is more convenient for switching games quickly, imagining standing and walking 10 feet to swap a disc doesn't exactly make me feel like I'm going to die.

Many of the popular multiplayer games are digital only and F2P anyways, so that cuts down on the discussion one way or the other.

Well is there any physical Xbox series games that actually fit your description?

My experience of physical Xbox in the last few years is always downloading or redownloading after physical install (high chance of space issue due to two copies of the same game). There is always day 1 patch where it's the size of the whole game. Not to mention being able to preload the game so you can truly play on day 1

Ok, now you’re just talking out of your posterior. Why don’t you give it a rest?

It is like someone else mentioned previously - more options = better pricing.

"allot" is actually a lot.

There are, but I couldn't list recent ones myself. I know Hades does. For a lot of Xbox games there is the caveat that discs tend to get printed with the Xbox One version only, so the Series X version has to download in full. If you install such a disc offline, it will install and run the Xbox One version instead. PS5 doesn't do this so you have more functional discs generally.

This guy tests stuff constantly, just search Xbox.

I sold a PS4 game for $180 this month. Bought it for $20 several years ago and never played it. That was pretty cool, and paid for a bunch of Thanksgiving week purchases. Which include about 9 more games from Amazon and Target for that same amount. It is wild the amount of GOTY candidates I was able to buy for $20-$25 in the last month. This is the merriest time of year for any gamer. Persona 3R for $20, Unicorn Overlord for $30, Balatro GOTY for <$20, or $10 digital, RE4 for $20, Sea of Stars for $25, Street FIghter and Megaman classic collections for $20, Metal Gear Solid collection for $15, Armored Core 6 for $20, ELDEN FLIPPIN RING for $20. The list goes on and on and on.

Sorry some people have no concept of how buying and owning games works. Just this month you could have bought 60-70% of the best games released in the last 1-2 years for what amounts to nothing more than $10 a title in the 90's. Games are NOT expensive. Buying things Day 1 is. 1 out of 10 of them will also +1000% themselves in 5-8 years when they become delisted from digital storefronts.

Indy is a very enticing disc title to want to own on Xbox. First one in awhile. I wish there was more of that stuff. The console would have been able to maintain a larger core base.

Which pricing option beats game pass day 1 and buy it digital later?

Maybe if we can use Ms bucks and Alienware bucks to buy physical Xbox games then it will be more comparable

I don’t play Day 1 due to patches and I certainly don’t buy Day 1 due to pricing. I take the patient gamer route. I have also never paid for Game Pass - I have had it for probably 4 years time or so on and off from promotions - like the Doritos, IHOP and Walmart + deals. I also had it from the Kelloggs/Pringles promos that stacked a few years back (Staked three years) - I also won a Series S through that promotion. There are so many good games available now a days that I can wait a few months or even a year or two to get around to them.

Can't say i've ever had that happen but curious how thats going to shake out. Let us know what happens. Maybe it'll work out in your favor, a nice discount without the point deduction.

Not really directed to you, just want to share my "haul" as well.

A number of the games you paid $20 for are on dell. Where they pay me ~$5 each to add to my digital collection. (Cash back on dell purchases using Alienware bucks)

That is enough for me to buy street fighter last year which stayed on my series x drive for the last year

Not to mention the others are on game pass like p3r they give the dlc for free.

I'm a physical collector like everyone back in the days with a huge library of 360 games and blu rays. But thanks to digital services like movies anywhere, game pass and playanywhere, I get more rooms for other crap than disk cases. I can finally take some of my 1c game guides collection out of the garage

"Convenience" is relative which is why I said "whatever conveniences [you] the most". What is convenient for you may not be convenient for others and vice versa. Some might not want to compromise what currently works (is convenient) for them and that's fine. It really depends on what you value most between time, money, and (physical) space.

The vast majority of users are not heavily leaning on rewards programs, and "GamePass Day One" has not existed for my top games in the past several years. Most of those games have never even been on the service.

Lots of more free stuff coming the next few days for GPU members

Hidden in plain sight this picture actually shows what we will get the next 10 Days (1 per Day) for free (It's the header of the Article on the Xbox Wire News)

Let’s all agree to disagree to each their own.

Legit surprised I don't already own Fight Night Champion digitally in someway. I Still wish Fight Night Round 3 was on Game Pass so I can relive my glory days of punching people in the dick repeatedly and becoming world champion.

I hope you know that this conversation start when I was talking about Indy.

Also this is a Xbox thread on cag where the majority of the posts are talking about Xbox digital games, game pass, Ms rewards and dell aw rewards.

I think it's safe to assume that the majority of users checking this thread is deep into the whole ms rewards/game pass (you know, the actual deal discussion, where Ms rewards/game pass is the greatest Xbox gaming deals of all time by far)

I believe you are actually the minority or checking out the wrong thread/site?

I loved trying to knock people out with a dirty shot, was the best
Also trying to get in extra cheap shots when they falling from a knock out. That game is probably one of the best (if not, then simply the best) fighting games to play on a couch with just the amount of disrespect you give to people from taunting to just getting that clench in and stopping that momentum.

Anybody have opinions on AI: The Somnium Files is it $8 good?

Also, I haven't played a Sherlock game in a while. I really enjoyed Crimes and Punishment, Devils Daughter was fine, Jack the ripper and The Testament were quite aged/janky, but ok. I've not played Chapter one. Is Awakened any good? DLC worth it? $12.50 a good price? I'm hoping my fellow Sherlock game fans can weigh in!

That article has surprisingly little info on the promotion. I'm assuming that the second giveaway is the 500 PGA Tour Points. Where would we go to get that?

"Convenience" is relative which is why I said "whatever conveniences [you] the most". What is convenient for you may not be convenient for others and vice versa. Some might not want to compromise what currently works (is convenient) for them and that's fine. It really depends on what you value most between time, money, and (physical) space.
But you do agree that on Xbox today and the foreseeable future, digital beats physical hands down between time, money, and space regardless?

AI is probably one of my favorite visual novels. It does fall on a few anime tropes here and there, but the character writing is fantastic and personally I grew to like nearly everyone by the time the credits rolled.

Enjoyed it when it was in GP.

Worth $8.

They just mentioned like 4 things and let it stay that way lol. As for where to find it...like all the things directly from the Xbox Store. There's a 500 PGA Tour Points tile which can be bought. However we still don't know the order of what will appear each day. The next day should be up in around 3 hours or so (going by the time Battlefield appeared)

It was around five years ago that I played it, but while the game isn't good, you might get $8 worth of entertainment out of it.

The game is a puzzle/adventure hybrid where there's a lot of story with little interaction on your end and also some puzzle segments dispersed throughout. In those puzzle segments (somniums), you basically spend X time from a timer counting down to do Y action, There is absolutely no logic to it at all, and when the timer hits 0, you fail and have to do it over again. How so many people designed and/or signed off of something so bad is beyond me.

The characters are your typical Japanese game where they favor personality over depth, believability, and nuance. I didn't like 80% or so of the cast, but if you don't care about that stuff, you probably won't feel as negative toward them as I did.

The moment-to-moment is very uneven with plenty of dullness and cringe, but at the end of it, I found it the overarching to be interesting and the game's saving grace.

So what method was the free game given? Could you just claim it from the store or did you get a EA key or something? I don't care about Battlefield but some of the other stuff I'm tempted by but I only have months of PC game pass stockpiled.
