• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I was just on Reddit, and some Alpha Skip Ahead users are finding 360 games in the normal Xbox One store, and they are able to buy them with Microsoft gift cards, instead of real money like we used to be forced to. People seem to think that when the Xbox Series X is released, that the 360 store will probably be put out to pasture for good. So, Microsoft is moving over any games and dlc now, that are compatible with the Xbox One, and the Xbox Series X.

You should be under it but just an FYI, I believe the bing terms say you can only redeem 550,000 points each year. Which is $685 if your buying the gift cards on sale, so you should be okay.

Somebody suggesting buying up a bunch of preorders with all of your credit, and then cancelling them, so that your credit doesn't expire in the standard 90 days. Because, apparently when they refund your credit, you have a year or two to use it, supposedly.

I believe when they refund your credit from a preorder and your credit has expired, they give you 30 days before it expires again.

Finished the first playthrough of Minecraft Dungeons last night, it's a great couch co-op game. 

Also, finally made up my mind on a monitor for home office and spare Xbox use, went with the Acer XF270H I was originally considering. First delivery was defective and had to be returned, replacement arrived yesterday. 

For a midrange (sub-$500) gaming monitor, this thing is beautiful. It supports Freesync and 120hz refresh rate over HDMI, the One S recognized it immediately. I didn't think it would matter much, but motion is so much more fluid, I almost want to play on this more than my huge TV. 

With the right settings, it's great for office work, too. Anyone looking for a WFH multi-purpose option and can't spend too much, I'm very pleased with this monitor.

Cant really compare systems with moving parts against systems with none. Cartridge based systems are just motherboards with a outer case. Capacitors can still go bad, but no wear and tear like a disc based system.

Yeah, buy your stuff from someone else. I have 3 360s that work great. My original xbox is still doing fine. Back in the day I spent a lot more money replacing cheaply made PS2s than I ever spent on xbox stuff. Of my two PS3s I can only depend on 1. I think you've just been unlucky enough to buy stuff that people knew had problems. Its tough to know how something has been treated if you can't buy it new.

In my experience, it's definitely true that the Japanese companies try to make their products last longer since consumer protection laws are much stronger there. MS is primarily an American company and its products have built-in obsolescence. Did you know that Sony only stopped servicing warranties and repairs for PS2 in Japan just a year or two ago? PS2, not PS3. The RRoD problem on Xbox 360s cost MS over a billion to rectify. You see this famously with how Japanese automobiles were built to last compared to their American-made counterparts, which decimated the auto industry. (Until 1950, 80% of all cars were US-made. Today, it's only 12%.)

Have not fired up my launch day Xbox in about a year, still worked.
My 360 still runs, got it 6+ month past launch. My PS3 works, my Ps2 still worked the last time I fired it up...

My GBA died. My PSP works but battery shot.
My launch PS4 was going out before I traded it in.

My snes and genesis never failed, my NES was replaced cause the thing would randomly quit.

I agree on the original Xbox and the regular 360. If you didn't remove the clock capacitor on the original Xbox it would tend to leak acid on the motherboard after about 10 years and damage the system. I don't have to tell anybody about the original 360 and the RROD. Only the slim 360 was decent quality that would last a while.

That "Japanese stuff is built to last longer" thing ended over a decade ago though.
Fwiw, my DS Lite (corroded battery), PS2 Slim (laser fizzled out) and PS4 (optical drive shit the bed) have all had major issues. One of my 360s has had overheating issues, but I've only needed to replace the power supply brick on it so far.
OG PS3s also have insanely high failure rates, and all of the big 3 have had controller issues.

My original launch 360 pro RROD only 6 months after launch.  It happened well before it was a known issue, but luckily it was still covered by the 1 year warranty.  Microsoft then sent me a refurb low end model that didn't have the chrome disk slot and reeked of cigarette smoke.  I then made them replace that one with the proper unit.  It took over a month to resolve, which isn't a big deal but there was a worse issue.  They did not have their DRM sorted at that time, so all my digital purchases would only work while signed in and there was no way to migrate purchases to the replacement.  Whole thing was a mess and is what pushed me to primarily gaming on the PS3.  That unit also started RROD, but it wasn't consistent.  That unit was traded to GameStop toward a piano black elite 360 which I still have and never had an issue with.

fwiw:  I've also had a couple of PS2's with drives that quit working, had a fat PS3 YLOD and a Wii that's drive got the click of death.

My most common problem has been disc drive failures. 3 ps2s and 2 or 3 xb360s had disc read failure. My backwards compatible PS3 still reads blu rays and cds but will not read dvd anymore. Same goes for my ps4 pro. Both my virtualboys are having display issues from the very common ribbon cable problem. I’ve had multiple snes and nes that worked when I put them away in the closet only to not work when recently tested. I take good care of my things and have no children so it’s definitely not a case of abuse.

I don't think a lot of thought is put into longevity for any modern consumer electronics. If you purchased it new and it lasts over a few years you should consider yourself lucky. Having said that I have several XBox 360's that I have owned for years with no issues.

I had a launch Wii U fail after 2 weeks of use and had to ship it back to Nintendo for repair. Nintendo sent me another Wii U and I had to call Nintendo to work out my digital game purchases that I had migrated from the Wii to the Wii U.  That is the only major console issue I have had in all the years I have owned a console (from Atari 2600 on up). 

I had a Samsung TV get a display issue after 6 months. Samsung sent out a repair person to my house. He basically swapped out the LCD screen. That TV is still working fine to this day.

I have sent back a  Seagte USB drive that failed after a couple of months of purchase. I also  had to return a CD writer from Sony when CD writers were relatively a new thing for PCs.

Overall,  I consider myself very lucky with consumer electronics.

That was 13 years ago and the  TV still has a nice picture and is showing no signs of failure. The PS3 was traded in long ago for a slim version so maybe it is still alive. 

Spent $1,900 on that TV so that I could get the PS3 for "$200". It was a different time.

I think I spent like $2400 on a 46in Samsung motion plus when I bought my ps3 80gig. That tv was amazing, gave it to a friend a few months back and it never missed a beat until he dropped it...it's not all doom and gloom buying electronics, especially if you're not a cheap ass with unrealistic expectations.

Love the upside down PlayStation. Had one that kept working for quite a while that way. With the rather disappointing long term reliability of all prior PlayStation and Xbox models it really should be a pretty damn important feature to support backwards compatibility. Makes it a lot easier to stay with Xbox for now while they are leaps ahead in this area.

Playstation I bought some digital PS1 games for PS3 and I guess they couldn't even bother to carry forward to PS4. It would be great if we could trust them to at least try to carry some stuff forward so we don't keep abandoning digital library to systems that will be dead within a few more years. Really curious if their ps5 to 4 compatibility will end up pretty limited or if they will pursue it with continued effort and keep adding more like Microsoft did.

Catching up on the thread from my phone, so no quotes.

I wouldn't take the updated availability of 360 purchases as a death knell for the 360 store, it would make little sense to totally kill it if the games are still going to be downloadable and BC is a big focus. They likely just finally figured out how to make the process smooth in anticipation of next gen. I'd imagine if you buy the games one way or another you'll still get access to them on all platforms.

That said, this may finally close the loophole that makes 360 and OG games permanent unlocks from GWG, meaning your have to have an active sub like One games require. I could also see them sunsetting the inclusion of 360 games in GWG, or possibly shifting gears to repeat previous games.

On Mass Effect, the lack of an announcement now makes me think it's a bogus rumor or next gen exclusive for further out. I don't think Command and Conquer has much influence on it since they're totally different beasts, and that Remaster has a team with some of the old Westwood devs making it, they wouldn't be on ME HD. I don't know who would handle it though. Roughly 100 hours of content spread across 3 RPGs is a big undertaking if it's a quality remaster.

I don't think the engine would be a problem though. ME1 actually was ported to the same branch of Unreal Engine 3 that 2 and 3 used when it was ported to PS3 for the original trilogy release. EA doesn't seem to be going the full remake route with their other games, just impressing and improved assets.

Cyberpunk getting another delay is a bummer but not unexpected. I'm curious how the next gen rollout will actually go, and I think it may be longer than expected. All the Enhanced Editions of the Witcher games took quite a while to release, like a year. It depends if the whole team will be focused on finishing those ports, or splitting for the post game support and expansions, or the standalone multiplayer game. I don't really care either way, as long as the game is solid on release. I'm still not sure I'll be upgrading day one anyways.

Finally, I'm not loving the death of E3. I get why they're doing it, but all the publishers spreading out their announcements over a month or more is really making it hard for me to keep up on everything. This week I only managed to watch the EA show live. Sure, they get more exposure for that specific day, but I think This is going to cause a lot more people than normal to only check out the highlights, and will lead to a lot of the smaller games getting less buzz than they get normally.

Weird. I have one of every Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft system, plus a Dreamcast. They all still worked as of last year when I put them away in storage. Sold a still-working launch 360 in 2013 after winning an Elite, used the money to buy a used PS3, which also still works. My launch PS1 still works fine rightside-up, and even my NES plays games without having to stuff other shit into it to hold the cartridge down.

You all just have bad luck or suck at taking care of your shit. The only one I had to replace was my phat PS2, but that's because I threw one of those crybaby temper tantrums as a teen and hit it, cracking it and breaking the lens reader arm. The replacement PS2 Slim was much better.

Yeah I'm lucky I had most of my games on an external so switching to a new system is always easy. I'm hoping the same can be said for the series X. Hopefully I can move all my old games right to the new system.

Original PS - pieces of the spindle came off meaning it will eventually fall apart but I still have it.

Bards tale is glitchy af. I've spent about 2 hours more in chapter 3/4 because I've had to restart four times. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty so less save points.

For those that use 2.5 external drives and limited space near your console, where do you place yours? I moved my Xbox and PS4 from my entertainment center to my desk and don’t have a whole lot of space. I really don’t want to put any of them on top of either console (Xbox has 2 drives, PS4 has 1). But since neither have vents on top, I’m assuming it isn’t a problem?

I just finished setting up my Cyberpunk console. Is there anyway I can choose to install all my games at once or do I have to go through every single game and click on install?

You can set up both consoles on your home network and do a local network transfer of your data, not sure if this is what you mean? It saves a ton of net bandwidth.
