• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Thanks for the heads up on this! My daughter was saving up to get her own and this saved her a lot of time. The controller you pick is an official Microsoft one (various colors, not just black/white). There was also a 15% Target circle promo I apparently had (ymmv?) so ended at about $217 with tax after RedCard 5% off.

Important caveat here, this doesn't apply in these circumstances:

They are also beefing up the servers. This one sounds like they were fully a fault. They expected it to go smoothly but their existing setup was overwhelmed.

Other issues acknowledged:

"You have not lost any items or progress, though some players are logging in and seeing some/all elements missing from their collection." Sounds like account merging caused a lot of these issues on top of other stuff. The same basic error caused missing unlocked characters.

They also acknowledge the DDOS attacks and said that they have stopped. Which may have been stupid since that could cause them to start again.

Tried logging in this morning to see if anything was fixed or changed. Last night, I did see an option in the menu to account merge, but selecting it did nothing. This option was fully missing two nights ago.

100 player server queue. Got in.

Now it's prompting me to merge my console and Battle.net account. I did so. Still not totally convinced it'll work right, but at least now it says I'm in an account merge queue... of 210,000 people.

I logged off and back in to see if that number changed. 220,000.

Overwatch is getting rid of the phone number requirement. Effective Oct 7th you will just need a Battle net account.

They caved on that far quicker than I thought. I figured I'd be missing out on playing until it was irrelevant again.

I get the impression that a lot of these big tech companies have a really insular view of the world, and think the local/personal situation applies to the whole world. It's part of how we got the Xbone launch plans, shit netcode in Japanese games, Quibi, Stadia.

Game has new achievements.  Most are tied to content in the anniversary update coming next week, though 2 are tied to the Made in Mexico story currently in the game.  It looks like the game also needs the update for the achievements, since I completed the story last month and they haven't popped.

Trial - B700 Offroad - Used the 2014 Ford Ranger T6 Rally Raid (617 431 244).  Team swept.  Person in a 2018 Porsche Macan LPR Rally Raid won both, followed by the same AI in the T6.  Was in second in the second race behind the AI.  Tried ramming it into a wall.  It bounced off and shot off while the game treated me like an Open race where I was slowed down.   Still fought back to 3rd.

EventLab - A800 Rally Monsters - Point to point, no drivatars.  Took it a bit slow and took a bit under 4 minutes.  Jumps at 75% and 78% you'll need a bit of speed to clear.

Stadium Jump Danger Sign - S2 998 Anything Goes - 1,397.6 feet (3 stars is 900) - Hit 1,458.94 with the 1989 Ferrari F40 Competizione (179 735 371).  North of the sign, the road branches.  Following the left branch, I started from the curve southwest of the intersection.  Hit the ramp at 205.  First attempt, I hit the base of the ramp at about 210 but the car went nearly vertical in the jump.  Landed on the rear bumper and failed it.  Rewound and on the second attempt stayed more level in the jump to clear it.

Ranchito Speed Zone - S2 998 Anything Goes - 100mph (3 stars is 90) - Used the Ferrari F40 again and hit 102.88.  Took a few tries, got it going counter clockwise.  Was around 88mph coming out of the curve at the top of the zone and made up the speed going downhill.

Ranchería Drift Zone - S2 998 Anything Goes - 98,500 (3 stars is 60,000) - Set a new PB of 112,552 with the 1986 Hoonigan Ford RS200 Evolution (780 472 164) going west to east.

The Gauntlet - S1 900 Rally Monsters - Used the 1989 Porsche #65 Rothsport Racing 911 "Desert Flyer" (648 524 162).  Handling is a bit slippery, had to rewind to correct turns at a number of places.  Didn't deal with rubber banding much this week because there was always at least 1 or 2 drivatars right behind me until the very end.

Dirt Endurance - B700 Modern Rally - Had to run the Tulum Trail twice, but otherwise no issues using the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR (691 880 998).

Blaze A Trail - D500 Classic Rally - No problems with the 1973 Ford Escort RS1600 (145 289 234).  Simple tune, just switched to AWD (bumped to 502 PI) and widened the rear tires to drop back to 500.  The car also completes the In A Hurry accolade in the Dirt Racing group (top row of 3rd last column).  Awards the weekly challenge car, which is only 20k in the autoshow.  The one route with this car type is also next Tuesday's daily.

It would really damper the game if OW1 had more active players then OW2. One of the fun parts of OW1 was unlocking a new gold skin about once every week or two if you were playing regularly. Overwatch 2 doesn’t have that.

I finally got to play Overwatch 2 this morning, the servers let me in. I’ve been trying since launch day. My first impressions are not good. It needs some major hero balancing. Some of the tanks are WAY to powerful. I was playing healer and D’Va was killing me in less then 2 seconds.

I guess I can understand why they had to shutdown Overwatch 1. While I was playing I was thinking about how Overwatch 1 was more fun and I probably would have left to go play that instead. It would really damper the game if OW1 had more active players then OW2. One of the fun parts of OW1 was unlocking a new gold skin about once every week or two if you were playing regularly. Overwatch 2 doesn’t have that.

I've only managed to play 3.5 games on day one and I had a decent first impression, but we were also steamrolling the other ransoms we got matched with. The main improvement was the loss of barrier hell. Really I think we need a week or two of the game actually functioning to get a grasp on the new balancing, though it is clear some characters need adjusted.

It is worth noting that even the original plan for OW2 that Kaplan outlined in 2019 meant that the gameplay of OW1 was going away. It was going to completely shift to the new balance of 2 so the games could crossplay with each other. Presumably they weren't planning F2P yet.

For me, I always had a hard time buying games when they weren't on sale.  However, with game pass I feel less inclined to actually buy games at all due to the steady backlog it provides.  My Xbox games list on the dashboard is getting close to 1,000 titles now.  Just feels insane to me to spend any additional money on new titles when there are so many great games I've not gotten to in the backlog.  Maybe this is me just trying to talk myself out of buying a bunch of stuff as black friday season approaches...

I’m right there with you. I rarely buy games(even those under $10 I’d like to get to down the road) except for something that’s I’ve really enjoyed from Gamepass but I wait for a sale. I bought Far Cry 6 last week when it was $24 and I felt dumb afterwards because there’s so many games at the top of my GP backlog I’m itching to get to. I’m playing through it quicker than I would a game of that size since there’s a couple GP games I’d like to finish before Persona 5 comes and soaks up all my time. Speaking of Persona 5, I will end up buying it if it’s at least 20% off during Black Friday. Might get Cyberpunk 2077 then too. Lawn Mower Simulator is on sale this week and I have a feeling it might be the last time it is before it gets taken off GP so I’m going buy it. There are so many games I’ve bought in my backlog from years ago that I haven’t played because of Gamepass.

I pretty much don’t spend any “money” on Xbox games. Either play via gamepass or use the points from Microsoft rewards to buy them. Only game purchases with other means are ps/switch exclusives

I used to buy all the Halo games day one, but Halo Infinite I played on Gamepass and then lost interest in the multiplayer so it was kind of nice to not have spent full retail on it, so that was a change for me. Microsoft hasn't had much first party stuff that I have been interested in recently so other then Halo I haven't seen much I would have bought anyways.

I recently used all my Microsoft points to buy some Playstation exclusives because I just got a PS5 but didn't want to get PS+ Extra since I already have Gamepass and there is only a handful of games I want to play on Playstation anyways.

I still buy quite a bit on sale, day one I only get stuff I know I'll play right away and know it's not coming to GamePass any time soon (Elden Ring). Only kind of dumb purchases I make are games currently in GP if they go low and/or I think they'll leave, especially if they're long games. Stuff like all the Yakuza games and DQXI.

Only major impact I'd say is I'm more hesitant to buy indie games at full price on any platform, since a late Xbox arrival usually means GP.

It is pretty sad that the game I bought for multiple platforms (Overwatch) has been replaced by a game I don't particularly like (Overwatch 2) and I can never play the origin again... Just crazy.

I am not a fan of this trend. I only bought Overwatch on XBox when it was relatively new to try it out. I never got into it.

One consolation I suppose is I can uninstall Overwatch from my Xbox now at least to free up space

I liked Battleborn more then Overwatch myself. I hate games as a service.

I played the first game a little. Definitely not my type of game. I am more into games that have a decent single player campaign. Overwatch is strictly online multiplayer.

Also not a fan of games with microtransactions to unlock stuff which would take forever to unlock playing the game.

Overwatch 2 is a big pass for me.

Enjoying bloodroots but how the hell do you restart a level outside of right after you complete it anyone knows? Cos I can't figure out and when I come back after a day or so it automatically goes to the next level even though I didn't mop up the previous completed level

I probably won't stick with the game long but regardless I don't plan on spending any money unless there is actually a good battlepass or started pack. No way I'm buying the store stuff.

When the story stuff is here I'll buy that if they don't botch it.

Hard to say. Based on the tiny amount of context we have I have a bad feeling about how the PVE is going to roll out. They've basically flushed most of what Kaplan announced 3 years ago. OW2 sounder like it was going to be a L4D style with skill-trees, and a full campaign.

Now all (maybe just most) development stopped a year ago to pivot to this F2P plan. The roadmap only mentions PVE "experiences" rather than a campaign release. So I'm thinking they may plan on fully copying Destiny's seasonal model, releasing stuff a lot closer to the limited OW1 PVE content.

The one possible positive spin I could see is if they're basically treating the game as early access instead, and releasing the overall campaign bit by bit with it eventually feeling like a fleshed out part of the game.

I am not a fan of this trend. I only bought Overwatch on XBox when it was relatively new to try it out. I never got into it.

One consolation I suppose is I can uninstall Overwatch from my Xbox now at least to free up space

I liked Battleborn more then Overwatch myself. I hate games as a service.

I tried Overwatch whenever it’d come on a free to play weekend. I loved the aesthetics but just couldn’t get into the game. Paladins is similar but I found it more enjoyable and played it somewhat regularly for a while. I still keep it installed in case I get an itch to play.

I tried Overwatch 2 again last night. You can tell tanks are way OP right now. I played the mode where you don't have an assigned role and my team had 3 tanks, 1 attacker and 1 healer and we stomped the other team. Next match I was the only tank, and we had 3 attackers and 1 healer while the other team had 3 tanks and 2 healers and they stomped us easily. Tanks need to be fixed, if the roll of the tank is supposed to be just to tank they shouldn't so easily be able to kill all of the attackers and healers.

The other issue right now is it seems like we have a lot of new players on Overwatch 2 trying to play the game like they are playing Call of Duty or another solo shooter. To many go off to a random part on the map solo and are not working with the team on the objective.

I know some seem to think the cosmetics are not important, but Overwatch 1 had a good cosmetic loop of where you got decent cosmetics fairly regularly just from playing the game, no money required. Now on Overwatch 2 that loop is broken, so once the gameplay starts to feel stale or not fun at all, I don't see people sticking with it. It's benefiting right now from just being a "new" game so the population is high from people that haven't played Overwatch 1 in a long time and don't realize its basically the same game, just worse.

Out of curiousity, how would everyone say Game Pass/Backlogs have changed your buying habits?

For me, I always had a hard time buying games when they weren't on sale. However, with game pass I feel less inclined to actually buy games at all due to the steady backlog it provides. My Xbox games list on the dashboard is getting close to 1,000 titles now. Just feels insane to me to spend any additional money on new titles when there are so many great games I've not gotten to in the backlog. Maybe this is me just trying to talk myself out of buying a bunch of stuff as black friday season approaches...

I Want to say yes, but I bought about 50 ACA Neo Geo games from Argentina this year so not really too much...

I just looked and i'm at 703 Xbox games. We are sick people lol

One thing I will say in regards to backlog is that for those of us that were tagging games with gold from the beginning we were adding 48 games per year for since 2013ish.  I think it amounts to over 400 games at this point.  What I've started doing is making a list on my Xbox for "Games I Want to Play" and "Great Games."  The first is more for games I've bought cheap/free that I at least want to check out, and the latter is for the big epic games I've missed over the years (Witcher 3, Fallout 4, etc. - games that take some time to go through).  I've found that's at least been a helpful way of identifying how big the backlog of games I actually want to play is (it's nowhere near the 900 owned games I have, but is still much too large).

My Xbox one digital library is over 3000 games. I’m pretty much just Braniac at this point. Having a large library of games to play on demand is cool though.
