• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

It was the best $39.99 I ever spent to clock one more year of gold when they had the conversion deal, locked into April 2022 at the moment. One great thing about the next consoles I think that MS will be dipping into the coffers and  the big titles hitting release day on GamePass is only going to ramp up this year as we head to the next showdown. Moved into my first house (at 45!) last night. Actually closed back on Jan 22nd. A lot of work left to do but it feels good having my own walls.

Anyway, the real reason for this post is one of my cats is losing his shit over the move. We were living in a 750 square foot apartment and now we are in a 3400 square foot house and he just cannot grasp all the space and is super scared. The other cat has adjusted pretty well already outside of the random meowing even when he is right next to us. So does anyone have any advice? I am hoping it will just take some time but he was already skittish in the apartment and I am afraid this house is going to break him.

I have 5 cats and moved into a new house about a year ago so I can say with experience each cat is different. Some of our cats acclimated instantly and a couple just hung out under a bed for a week. I would say give it time and everything should be good.

Last time that we moved, our cats and dogs thought that we were abandoning them. They were so relieved when they saw that they were coming with us. Though they were scared of the new house at first (the dog tried to dig under the fence to run back to our old house), eventually they got used to it. I wish you luck with your cat.

The TOS state pretty clearly that while the Ultimate sub is active, any XBL or standard Game Pass additions will be converted at MSRP rate. Too bad you didn't redeem the 12 month Gold before doing the $1 upgrade, it would have redeemed the 12 months of Gold and then upgraded it to Ultimate, which includes Gold.

Customer service might do it as a courtesy, and in fairness it's a tad confusing, but MS would be well within their right to refuse the refund / switch.

Finished A Plague Tale. It was good but I think the hype made me enjoy it less because I had high expectations. Comparisons to The Last Of Us are totally unfounded, IMHO, since I had no emotional attachment to these characters and TLOU was one of the most engaging stories I've ever seen in a game. Hugo is basically Buster Bluth with all his whining about mummy and it feels at least an hour too long.

It does get an award for producing a sentence I never expected to say though:

It might not mention it on the card, but when you have an active Ultimate subscription, their system does pop up with a warning about the conversion when you go to the redeem the code.

Turning off recurring billing isn't the same as canceling. The remainder of the subscription will continue to run out. You actually have to call support if you want to ditch the remainder of an already paid for subscription. Since you still had active GPU, the conversion still applies.

Finished Rise of the Tomb Raider yesterday. That instant head lock on with arrows in the game made me feel like Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy. Just deeply satisfying watching enemies turn a corner only for my arrow to just curve and follow them to their skull. Going through the DLC of that now and also finally started River City Girls. That maybe the most polished 2D beat em up I've ever played. Like I loved Scott Pilgrim and Double Dragon Neon, but yowza the personality in River City Girls is so strong and it's just very satisfying. Now I just need a deal on Fight'N Rage to get more of my walking to the right to punch people in the face fill.

Also we live in such weirdly blessed times where there are so many stupid good to amazing games that I kinda stress figuring out what to play next.

No it’s alright, just frustrated. I’ll try later with Customer Service and I’m not going to give them a hard time, if I have to eat my mistake I have to eat it. It’s just I’ve never ever had any season pass, dlc code, or anything like that ever not be what was on the cover of the voucher I bought until now; and this goes back buying my first dlc in the Halo 2 map packs.

Right now there’s just nothing on GPU I need, I buy pretty much all major titles (that interest me), I just wanted to try it so see what it was about and see if there was anything I didn’t own that grabbed my attention.

In an experiment examining the effects of choice on happiness, Iyengar and Lepper randomized individuals to either a group in which they could choose from 30 types of chocolate or a group in which they could choose from six types of chocolate. While subjects initially reported liking having the choice of 30 chocolates, they ended up being more dissatisfied and regretful of the choices they made than those who only had the choice of six. Barry Schwartz, the author of The Paradox of Choice, elaborates on this phenomenon, emphasizing that regret avoidance and anticipated regret are some of the most detrimental effects of overchoice. He states, "the more options there are, the more likely one will make a non-optimal choice, and this prospect undermines whatever pleasure one may get from one's actual choice."


These findings are quite sobering when we consider that nobody was trying to "sell" the participants on the available choices. There were no advertisers or marketers telling them one type of chocolate was better than the other, yet they still felt paralyzed by the number of choices and more regretful of their choices. This begs the question: What would happen if we added a condition to this study in which subjects were bombarded with advertisements and beautiful people telling them how great each of the choices were and that they would be happier if they chose "the best" chocolate option? This hypothetical condition isn't far from what most of us experience daily; it's this added onslaught of influence and pressure that most closely resembles the environment we live in every day. This environment of overchoice translates into the utilization of a skewed decisional balance in which we evaluate what we actually have in comparison to what we should have. We are left perpetually wondering: "What did I miss?" "Would I be happier if I had chosen a different option?" Just launched my digital version and it shows up as the complete edition on the title screen.

Also checked Majors list and it says original and complete editions will work.

I think that they call that paradox of choice. Rather than being happy that we have so many games to choice from, it causes stress when you have to choose a new game to play.

I Think it's one of those things I try and remedy by narrowing down to five or so games each time when I want to play something. The slight wrinkle in that though is Game Pass with games either expiring or now Quests popping up. The only time I ignore them is when I don't want to start a huge game (like Witcher III) when I'm already involved in a 12+ hour game because I know I'll just fall into a pit of focusing on that.

And off topic, I decided to give Momodora a try and I'm impressed when a game has a whole achievement list that just makes me say "nooooope." Not even one for beating the game normally.

According to my spreadsheet I bought it back in 2014 for $3.75. Looks like it was delisted October 2018.

Finished A Plague Tale. It was good but I think the hype made me enjoy it less because I had high expectations. Comparisons to The Last Of Us are totally unfounded, IMHO, since I had no emotional attachment to these characters and TLOU was one of the most engaging stories I've ever seen in a game. Hugo is basically Buster Bluth with all his whining about mummy and it feels at least an hour too long.

It does get an award for producing a sentence I never expected to say though:

During the final battle I died a few times and said to my girlfriend, "I'm so tired of these rat tornadoes." She was in the other room and had no idea what I was talking about. Seriously though, rat tornadoes.

My own anecdotal addition to this has been since the advent of GWG (let alone Game Pass), I’ve become more and more reluctant to buy new games. Why drop $60 on release for Red Dead Redemption 2 (for example) when I have 100 games I got free taunting me from games list? And even without that shiny new game, I can’t figure out what I want to play.

Was going to focus on my physical backlog after playing Fallen order but since I'm still hooked on apex Legends I decided to put together a pin of a bunch of short games to play in between apex, overwatch and fallen order. I think it's like 26 games that are 5 hours or less to beat, mostly in the backlog but a few gamepass games as well. Think it will be a better way to play games I own than focusing on the roughly 10 physical games I own that probably take 20+ hours each to beat.

You should always wait regardless. Never pay more than $35 for a game, unless it's a series you already really enjoy or from a company you really enjoy. RDR2 was easily worth the $35 I paid for it.

I'm not far enough in for a full comparison but I guess it never occurred to me to compare Plague to Last of Us, totally makes sense though because of dragging around the toddler instead of Ellie. I always thought of more of a comparison to Hellblade but it think both just have that graphics style that reminds me of the PS4 first party titles this generation. 

I'm most likely way in the minority but man I thought The Last of Us was one of the most overhyped things I've ever forced myself through. I think the opening is amazing because I managed to avoid spoilers even though I didn't play it until the PS4 remaster, maybe the best first 15 minutes in a video game but I was struggling to push through the game around the University area.
