Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-05-16
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

Disney Pixar Rush Adventures(with my 4 yr old daughter)

I need a single player game to get into now that I finished South Park SoT on X1. After another 20 mins(1+ hr total into Kingdom Hearts) I just don't get that series' allure. Compared to modern rpgs like OuterWorlds, Witcher 3, heck even South Park, takes too long to spark my interest. Maybe it's the lack of rose-tinted glasses, game never kept me hooked. Think I'll give Beyond Eyes a shot since I just got that in last week's sales for a few dollars/end hot take
Were you playing the first KH, by chance? That one definitely has a slow start, and really doesn't pick up until you get to Wonderland.

Yes, I bought the HD 1.5+2.5 ReMix bundle when it was on sale a few weeks ago. Hopefully with my contribution, it heads to game pass soon and retro gamers can enjoy it once again

Tried watching the trailers at work but had a coworker talking to me the entire time so wasn't able to pay full attention. Some looked interesting. Kind of lame that they kept calling it game play for Assassin's Creed, I assumed it was going to be more than cutscenes.

Also frustrating that the game pass perk for spotify is new users only. I guess they already have my money so they don't need to try and rope me in to subscribing.

Me watching the trailers: Whoa, why does this game sound like it's ripping off Silent Hill's music?

Bloober Team writer: We're using the composer of Silent Hill for our horror game...

Me: You have my attention.

Mostly playing Witcher 3 goty. Watched the Netflix series with my GF and she loved it. Told her I could play the game next and she encouraged me to do so. Now we are playing it “together”. As in, I play and she watches. I let her make all the big decisions (even though she usually asks me for help deciding)

Not to burst your bubble, but Bungie and Epic don’t won’t on Halo and Gears anymore.

I’m interested to know what Konami is up to on the console front, but I’d be surprised if they tried to make another Metal Gear without Kojima.

As for Remedy? JUST GIVE ME ALAN WAKE 2 DAMMIT!!!!

Destiny 2 is coming to next gen consoles according to their own tweet. I'd imagine destiny 3 eventually
I think Destiny 3 was trashed along with the Activision deal. It makes a lot more sense to keep building a permanent platform so all content is in one place, like Warframe or Path of Exile. What doesn't make sense is porting Destiny 2 to next gen consoles while content-wise they're doing an entire filler year only to pop out Destiny 3 in 6 to 18 months, especially when the game will surely be backwards compatible on both platforms.

The are only a couple things that point to a Destiny 3 in my eyes. The semi-recent talks of allowing some stuff to be shelved to have an easier tme balancing the game, which to sounds more like a gear/loot overhaul than starting over with a new game. The next is the various engine troubles from the past, along with the loss of the support studios that they had for like the last 2 or 3 years of Activision. One final engine upgrade could make sense in this context.

Really, we know at some point there was a 10 year plan for Destiny, and it's hard to say how that will shift. Probably the most realistic scenario is one final upgrade that at least ports in some of the gear and ALL of the gameplay content, like Overwatch 2 or Path of Exile 2 are doing. Then they can take advantage of the new hardware, not piss off the entire fanbase from starting from scratch again, and keep on trucking with a game that obviously makes a lot of money still.

Personally I stepped away again because I really dislike the current FOMO model of paying for content that then evaporates out of existence for the most part after a few months, in a game that also sells normal paid expansions and has an overbearing cash shop. I think they need to get their shit together on the monetization front, come to some kind of consistent equilibrium, like how Warframe mostly sustains itself by selling Prime frames.

Is Greedfall worth $30 if I won't play it for 2 years? There have been some weird games that are still $50 and never dropped like Sekiro or Control (though Control JUST hit $30 today on amazon, it had been $55 for months). I'm worried Greedfall is one of those games that'll shoot up and become impossible to find for less than $50-60. It's just hard to buy a game for $30 (my pricepoint is usually $20 regardless of the backlog) knowing I won't play it in forever.
I enjoy what I’ve played so far it’s well done but at the same time rough around the edges. It’s solid I would say it’s worth 30 but if you’re buying digital and not going to play for a few years it’ll probably go cheaper

Just started Doom today to play before it leaves. It was in the backlog for a couple years and then I sold the disc when it came to game pass and it stayed in the game pass backlog. I've played 2 missions and enjoyed them but know if I try to go for all the single player achievements it will bother me that I didn't get ALL the achievements and don't want to deal with the multi-player grind. It will be a fun casual playthrough for me.

I feel like Microsoft has shot themselves in the foot. If I can get 95% of these games on my Xbox One X, and about 85% of them are coming to GamePass (which is practically free if you get in on a $1 deal, and do Bing searches to buy more free months with points.) Why would I ever buy an Xbox Series X? At least in the first two years that it's out. I'd much rather spend my money on a PS5 and whatever new console that Nintendo cooks up, if I can already play everything on a system that I already own. That already does 4K, and already looks great to me.

Because us elitist with our Series X will point and laugh at all of the One X scrubs, obviously.

I think the real reason is... you can make a lot of money selling software in your ecosystem. Look at Steam/Epic Store etc. Microsoft doesn’t mind if you don’t upgrade for a while as long as your still buying games in the Microsoft ecosystem. Hell, they might even lose money on these consoles at first depending on the cost vs selling price. If you buy games on your One X or just stay subscribed to Gamepass, that’s money in the Microsoft bank. Whenever we come on to CAG on Monday nights and buy something on sale, Microsoft is getting a cut.

I think part of their strategy is that they don’t necessarily need you to buy a Series X for them to be successful.

You've literally seen 13 games, It's such a small sample size. If this was the last announcement before the launch then yeah they farked up. These are all some weird 3rd party titles which only 1 I've seen mentioned even an exclusive (which i'm sure is a year or less) I'm not burying the Series X from this 25 minute thing today. Still have at least 5 more Inside Xbox shows before launch, possibly 6. July will be the one to make any decisions about. I also don't know how much of a choice it will be to get either the Series X or PS5 this year, at least I know any game I buy will hopefully carry forward. Have no issue getting Cyberpunk day one now.

If 85% of the games are on GamePass, that’s a reason TO stay in the Xbox ecosystem for me. And still don’t know why people are acting like today’s presser was all MS is going to offer. They literally will be having one every month through November.

This right here. They know they're fighting an uphill battle to win back those who ditched them this generation. They'll be able to claim success by promoting the ecosystem and cross generation capabilities.

It's going to be very interesting to see how this next generation starts for both Sony and MS.

I think I will wait 5 to 7 years before buying a series x because there is no need, my backlog is in the hundreds. How bout you?

The two most recent TWABs (this week and last week) have been mostly about Bungie addressing the universal hate they are getting for the decisions they are making. Tonight's TWAB had some really good stuff in it in response to woes about their direction with Eververse.

I'm getting a Series X day one if I can so I can play all my existing games on a stronger console (mainly Destiny 2). That reminds me, the day I bought my 60GB PS3 the only game I bought with it was Final Fantasy XII (a PS2 game).

Because us elitist with our Series X will point and laugh at all of the One X scrubs, obviously.
Well the above reason AND this one, TBH.

There is a very good chance that at least most of your Xbox back log will work on the new console right out of the box.

I'm definitely buying the Xbox Series X with the help of Microsoft rewards. If GameStop is still open maybe I'll trade in my Xbox One X towards a PS5.

I never played halo and forgot they changed over to 343. I can't stand fps.

I didn't know gears is changing their developer. Hopefully it's like the first 3.

I thought they pretty much said if it runs on your Xbox one it’ll run on the series x

Yeah it's easier to buy a series X when your getting all those games off gamepass and your backlog is going to look even sexier with the performance boosts.

Considering most of us have gamepass at least most of your money will just be needed for the system and not so much the games.

I'll probably pick up 4 games the first six months the system is out because of gamepass. Maybe even less.

I'm hoping they're honest about targeting 60fps, which I think is worth way more than another couple thousand pixels.

Why upgrade a PC? You can still play 90% of new games on outdated tech. It's the exact same thing with the XSX. You can upgrade your CPU and gfx card to have the latest and greatest, or you can lag a few years behind and upgrade when prices drop. That's fine.

I have disposable income, I prefer xbl ecosystem, and the xbox controller. Once you add in better consumer policies like BC and GP, I'm all in baby. Esp if gamestop survives covid and I can get a trade in deal for $200-300 OOP on a fancy new system, I'm hyped to play Elden Ring and Cyberpunk on a badass console.

The smart CAG move is to wait for reviews, hardware to get ironed out, and prices to drop/bundles to come along that are more enticing. I don't see how buying a PS5 at launch is a good way to save money tho. That just seems like BS console wars nonsense. If I have to choose sides, I'd rather choose the side fighting for my dollar and providing things like BC, GP, a way to sort my purchases, an OS that improves and looks better than it did when it launched, more free games with MP sub, a better refund policy, better hardware cooling, better controller feel, more support for alternative needs controllers, a super fancy controller for people that want a premium experience, option to use your own batteries instead of being stuck with a built in battery degrading, a built in kickstand, and a slick racing stripe.

I may have made those last two reasons up, but you get what I mean. Also, if I support xbox and they can recover some of the marketshare they had in the 360 days, they'll be able to negotiate better prices with publishers and we should see a better equilibrium between prices on both ecosystems. That will increase competition and lead to overall lower prices for everyone.

I don't think it was pre-coverage that resulted in disappointment. It was that one guy during the presentation saying (paraphrasing) "We read the interwebs and know that everyone wants to see gameplay, and that's what we're going to give you" followed by in-engine trailers without obvious examples of gameplay.

I will get an Xbox Series X (or the rumored Series S) eventually. It really depends on the price. Even when I had a job, I wasn't making a ton of money, and I like GamePass, the only problem with GamePass, now that I have an entire year of it for $1, is that I no longer see the point in spending $60 on a game. Even some $20 games feel like way too much money for me. It was actually painful to buy Animal Crossing New Horizons for $60, but knowing Nintendo that game probably won't hit less than $60 before Black Friday, if Black Friday even happens this year with all of the Covid 19 stuff going on. I am not a fan boy in any way. I'm just a gamer. All that I am saying, is that in my current financial situation, and my lack of a personal TV that is more than 1080p. I just feel that the first two-ish years of Xbox Series X Microsoft will still be supporting at least the Xbox One X, if not all of the Xbox Ones. So, I'd rather deal with a minute of loading times, and play the games on a console that I already just bought in November, then go out less than a year later and buy a brand new system. And, I think we all know that eventually, there will be revisions and upgrades. We will probably get a PS5 Pro, and an Xbox Series X+ or something like that, along with a Switch 2 or a Switch Pro. I'm in no rush to Upgrade. My very first Nintendo Switch arrives today.

The suspicious lack of backwards compatibility for the PS4 and earlier systems currently has me kind of cold to the PS5. I mean, I still have a PS3 that can play all three systems, and a PS4 Pro, but I'd like to have a single box that really can play everything. I also don't understand why some original Xbox games were supported on the 360, but were no longer working as backwards compatible on the One, and Microsoft seems to be saying that their backwards compatibility for the Series X will be identical to the Backwards Compatibility that we had on the One for the 360 and original Xbox titles. Meaning that some of those games that you could play on a 360 like Metal Arms and Blinx 2, are basically lost to time.

They learned their lesson finally and turned it into a PC with the same architecture so they can stop having to learn everything over. Remember how at the end of a generation games look better because devs have learned optimization? Now they don't have to work as hard like PS2 to PS3 conversions. Yes, those games are only available on the older hardware.

I would argue they don't care as much if you don't buy the big hardware when they're pushing xCloud so much. They're perfectly happy you playing on what you have already.

The "console war" has become the "digital war" and MS knew this back went they launched the XB1. They probably could care less if you buy their hardware and to them it is probably a necessary evil they lose $s developing, marketing, and selling. Getting you invested in their IP is the more likely goal. Using Bing, windows, xbox subscriptions, digital libraries, etc. nets them a long term household income stream. Your time commitment using Bing and GamePass is extremely valuable to them...and they know your "time" is not "free" which is why it is incentivized.

Just my ideas on what is going on based on what I can see...I am sure the folks at MS marketing are way more intelligent than me about this stuff. Why care? Enjoy spending more time and less money on games!

Sometimes I think I'm getting better at buying games and can just wait for things to show up on Game Pass or just focus on my four digit backlog and be okay. Then I wake up the following morning and realized I just ordered 9 games from the Gamestop sale. You got me again terrible habits!

If I thought they'd come CIB I'd consider it, but last time I ordered online most of them were in those ugly generic boxes. Every physical game comes with a case, where do the cases go???

I'm also conflicted about shopping there after they endangered their employees and called themselves essential retail (not telling others not to shop there, its whatever).

Not sure which one of these gripes makes me angrier (joking, but seriously where do the cases go). I guess its nice of them to give me more reasons to not want to shop there...

Same thing they've done for Windows. Make it ubiquitous with technology and then they are making money on licensing, advertising, etc.

Just like Microsoft has their own line of computer products and hardware, but its not the only way to use Windows or Office, they'll make their money regardless and have an optimized experience on their own hardware.

Game Pass feels like the consumer friendly version of the DRM they wanted pre-launch, publishers still make money for games and it probably drives DLC sales more than it would otherwise.

Re: PS5 vs Series X, I think MS was just better situated to prep BC since they had a dedicated team working on 360 stuff and shifted them to next gen hardware just about a year ago. PS5 only being optimized for 100 titles and not a full library at launch is definitely going to be a PR problem for them if they aren't able to add games quickly. I already know a few folks who are planning on trading in or giving away their PS4 to a partner under the assumption all their games will still work.

Their B2G2 sale last time around late December where I bought I believe 20 games, about 14 were in original packaging, 3 were gutted; but came with day one bonuses, and the other 3 were generic. So based on that, they're getting better for me at least. Honestly packaging doesn't matter as much these days considering so much of my collection is digital that it's a nice bonus when it comes complete, but it doesn't have as much importance to me like it was on the 360 days and prior. Also buying games new from Gamestop I feel is legit worse at times just because stupid round stickers they place on there to act as if that makes it new after they gut it and just all the residue it leaves behind after peeling it off.

And honestly I'm torn too on the whole supporting GameStop. On one hand, they are fucking assholes for their whole handling of the situation, but also i rarely shop there and it feels in the past year or so they've at least tried to have better or great game sales and I barely get those these days for physical. It's not a good excuse, but then again bad habits and cheap games.

And hella off topic side note, but all the news headlines of Brian May of Queen ripping his ass from "Furiously Gardening" is the welcome distraction I needed in this world right now.

I cant stop playing it. I turned my live off even to stop tracking hours. Its too embarrassing

I’m surprised a bit at the backlash from the presser. I feel like ppl have never watched an Inside Xbox before. They rarely say anything interesting, so this one was by far better then prior ones. I watch a lot of them and they are usually filled with terrible scripts and pandering, so to actually see new games was a big step up from the norm.

Yeah I actually thought this one was better than usual. The Yakuza announcement with series X compatibility is huge for me. That new *definitely not silent hill* game from Bloober got me pretty excited. That co-op dino game looked interesting. So they didn't show much Assassin's Creed gameplay but also like... It's assassin's Creed I can imagine pretty well how it'll play. I agree a lot of the disappointment is unwarranted. This was one of the better ones I've seen as of recent memory

I'll probably get the XSX close to launch just to play my existing library better, and also because I have no illusions about the pandemic stuff being over by then, despite what everyone wants to think.

I'll hold off on the PS5 for a while.  The most likely thing to force me to buy one would be Horizon Zero Dawn 2.

I wonder how home consoles will work with the XSX - will I be able to have both a home X1X and home XSX?  That would be nice.
