Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-05-28
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

So I'm looking at that Terminator game... It still seems expensive, should I go for it or wait for a deeper discount? It's expensive as a disc too.  :shame:

I'm nervous it actually might get delisted as well, since the same developer had a delisted Rambo game.

I really hope Sony gets it figured out with the PS5. The dev kit patent shows 6 fans, with 3 being dedicated to the power supply. If this design is implemented in the shipped consoles, I feel like the noise issue could either be really quiet or quite loud.
More fans would mean smaller fans which usually makes things worse since smaller fans have to spin faster to move the same volume of air. That's why the XSX design has one huge fan at the top of the system. But we won't know anything definitive until we get to hear them actually running.

I don't know if the concept photos of the PS5 are going to be the console's final form, but if that is then that odd shape will definitely contribute to sub-optimal airflow.

I would wait. First time I saw the game on sale was for ~$15 on the PSN store; so it has gone lower than price it is now.

Been looking at the Ezio Collection for a while, but now I'm seeing a lot of posts elsewhere about the game crashing their Xbox, especially with Revelations. Anybody have any experience with this one? I have the PS3 collection, but was looking into the remaster. Wondering if it's worth not even bothering lol

you mean DR3 apocalypse edition?

also DR4 for the same price, main game is on game pass, but $8.99 main game plus dlc is worth it

also bioware bundle for $11.99 good deal?

both dragon age inquisition and mass affect andromeda with all dlc's, even both games are on ea access
Bioware bundle is a good price. Andromeda is a big step down from the main Mass Effect trilogy, but the majority of bad bugs were fixed and it was surprisingly X Enhanced way after support was dropped. The gameplay is arguably better than the older games but the writing and story are a lot worse. It's worth the extra $2 you're paying instead of just buying Dragon Age GOTY that is usually $10 on it's own. The "DLC" they include with Andromeda is basically a pre-order bonus armor set for single player and a couple character unlocks for the multiplayer that otherwise has a trash lootbox unlock system. No real content.

Inquisition is good overall. It has some flaws but it's a big step up from Dragon Age 2. The DLC is worthwhile, maybe to a fault since the final one is the actual ending to the main game's story. Only other thing of note is that it was never X enhanced so its visuals have already aged kind of badly. The visual design is great, but it's not helped by the 900p.

Sadly it seems like the new X1X enhancements for BioShock 1+2 are kind of screwed up, though some of the problem apparently can be fixed by running the games offline.  I hope this gets another patch.

So is there any tool that picks up the games that are first time sales other than just manually looking the next day or checking our own wishlists? Bloomy does great work but I feel like we miss stuff some times. Like the Konami Collection mentioned or Resident Evil 3's sale.

Unfortunately, buying a $4.99 game only counts toward $4 toward the $40. I was planning to buy eight $4.99 games, but I'll probably have to buy some DLC to reach the requirement of $40. That's how they get you.
What if you put them all in your cart online? Throw in that 99¢ shmup or whatever to break the $40 threshold in one transaction

Now that I know I'm working from home for the foreseeable future, I figure its time to upgrade the home office setup. Can anyone recommend a good gaming monitor? It would also be used for the home office setup but I'd like it to be for more than just Zoom meetings and medical records. Currently have a 27" Asus, but it's at least 6 years old and kind of bulky.

Nah, it’s a short game. I played through it on a GameFly rental. I enjoyed it but $40 is a bit much IMO.
I really enjoyed RE3. It's short but it also lends itself to multiple playthroughs. $20 would be the sweet spot but the content that is there is very good IMHO. My first playthrough took 7-8 hours, but I'm also a perfectionist when it comes to games like that and constantly load saves to save health and ammo. After that, you can finish it in ~90 minutes if you know what you're doing.

Just noticed that Destiny 2 is free to play after looking at the dlc on sale (never really got into the first one so didn't pay attention to this one until now).  If I just wanna run around and kill stuff without worrying too much about competing against others or anything, how many hours of content are free before having to start paying for the dlc?  Thanks.

Only other thing of note is that it was never X enhanced so its visuals have already aged kind of badly. The visual design is great, but it's not helped by the 900p.
thanks for the info, I bought it already.

I don't mind inquisition being 900p since I will be playing it in 720p or less streaming from my one s or project xcloud (it currently have the base game for free already)

I bought dead rising 4 with all dlc's for $8 and this bioware bundle for $12, I need another $20+ purchase to get my 4k rewards, any good recommendation from this sale? must be dlc or dlc bundled because if it's the base game only I'll just wait for gamepass/gwg/getting cheaper later

Thanks.
There’s a lot of repeatable PVE content like strikes, so it could really be endless or until you’re bored or burnt out.

Speaking of Destiny, did anyone see the live event today that capped off this season? I missed it because it took too long to start for me.

Without buying DLC for Destiny 2 you have access to quite a bit of Strikes, probably 2/3's of all story missions, 3 Raids, most special events, and access to ALL planets free-roam portions, including anything added in the future. You can also choose to buy a current Season Pass as a one off to get access to the current limited time activities and items. There's a lot there, you could easily get dozens to hundreds of hours out of the free stuff, you just won't be able to do pretty much any of the highest level actives.

Bungie seems to shift gears with the game yearly at this point, so everything could change when the current cycle ends after the next season, which ends in September.

Depends what kind of stuff you're looking for. Glancing in that price range I'd recommend Resident Evil 2 Deluxe or RE 7 Gold, or Soul Calibur VI Deluxe. RE2's DLC in that bundle is mostly cosmetic items though, if that matters.

Dark Souls III Deluxe, Devil May Cry V Deluxe, Fallout 4 season pass are the only other things really jumping out as decent prices just over $20 that include DLC. Maybe Tekken 7 but it still is missing quite a few characters with that bundle.

I picked up Modern Warfare, which is enough for the 4000 reward points.  Been playing Warzone and wanted regular multiplayer access to have more/faster ways to level up the battle pass and guns.

What's your price range? How many monitors do you need? What's your GPU?

If getting one monitor, I'd go with an ultrawide so you can have two windows open. Productivity greatly increases (for me, at least) when I can actively assess programs without continuously switching windows.

For the record, I have two different setups--one for working from home, and one for gaming--just so I'm less deterred from working during business hours.

For gaming, I have 2x 24.5" Lenovo Legion Y25f-10's hooked up via this VESA mount on my desk. They are a bit smaller than some other gaming monitors, but they look good at 1920x1080. The refresh rate is 144Hz, and they have a 1ms response time, which are ideal for gaming. 400-nit brightness and HDR color make it look good, and it has DisplayPort. I only have a high-end 2018 laptop to play on, so I'm not into UHD PC gaming that much yet. For monitors 27" and up, there's a 27" Acer Predator for as low as $124 at YMMV Walmart; it sounds great on paper, but in person, the screen size and resolution combination turned out blurry. The DPI scaling is a big problem without accommodating native resolutions. That may or may not present a problem for you depending on how close to the screen you are, and whether or not you configured those via Windows. My general recommendation for anything 27" and up is at least a QHD, if not UHD, with 144Hz refresh rate for gaming. Acer Predator XB27HK is good, though expensive at over $600. Acer Nitro VG270K is supposedly also good, but at 60Hz the ghosting might be severe.

For work, I have 2x 24" Dell Ultrasharp U2417's with the same VESA mount on a portable cart. Love the mount. I'm a software developer, but I don't use visuals or work on animation in any way, so the lower refresh rate is sufficient. The nearly invisible frame is nice on these, and the color is fantastic. Anything you get for gaming will be more than enough for work, however. This BenQ 35" QHD for $600 might be a good choice, too, if you think you might want an ultrawide with decent specs that's also capable of gaming.

Ultimately, your budget and graphics card will act as more of a basis on your options than me listing monitors I've seen. There are plenty of high-end ones that cost upwards of $1,000 that are also excellent choices, as well as decent mid-range monitors from AOC, LG, and MSI that can do gaming. I have over 10,000 Steam games and have never had any complaints with my two cheapo Lenovo monitors, FWIW. I saw them available on SD for $160 each last month.

I read an article saying that LG is coming out with the world's first 170hz Gaming monitor. It's one of those extra wide ones, and it also looks to be curved, which I am not the biggest fan of, but it's also supposed to be 4K with HDR. It seems to me that most 144hz monitors have capped at 1080p so far.

Is Kingdom of Amalur worth picking up from the sale even though the remaster being released soon?

Also does storeparser no longer track 360 games? I've been wanting to add the portal games to my collection for awhile but seems they don't go on sale very often at all.

So is there any tool that picks up the games that are first time sales other than just manually looking the next day or checking our own wishlists? Bloomy does great work but I feel like we miss stuff some times. Like the Konami Collection mentioned or Resident Evil 3's sale.
I used to parse the marketplace listing pages (new releases, most played, etc.) to get a list of games to check, but that was taking too long to put together, so I switched to my own list of the marketplace IDs to scan. Because of this, if something goes on sale for the first time, I'm not going to have it until Major posts, which I use to update my list. Since other price trackers pick up on first time sales, there has to be an API call to get that. I looked a bit into signing up for one of the Xbox developer programs at one point, but never went through with it. One of the things I was stuck on was coming up with a decent name for my "gaming company".

The Konami collection is in my list, though. It doesn't have Konami in the name, it's just Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection, so it can be easily missed, and my script just uses the names on the marketplace. Some other odd naming conventions on the marketplace. Some DLCs begin with the name of their game, others do not (Shadow of Mordor's pass, RE7 DLCs like Banned Footage), so those get scattered throughout the list. When I make the Monday post, I just paste my script output. When I get around to updating the OP (and I apologize for neglecting that recently, aside from linking the Major's post at the top), I align the DLCs with their respective games.

I've considered switching my set up to use a more flexible DB instead of a flat list, so I could relate the marketplace IDs with proper names and games with their DLCs (and bundles). TA must do something like this, because they relate RE7's Banned Footage DLCs with the game, though they also just use the marketplace name for that Konami collection.

Unless they butcher the remaster, you should just wait for it at this point since it'll also come with the 2 $10 DLCs and probably get decent discounts soon enough.
The only reason I'm debating getting it is because I have a physical copy and the DLC already.
I thought StoreParser was dead?
TA says they haven't been on sale since 2017 though. Damn.
Fwiw, Portal 2 and The Orange Box haven't been a GWG yet (though Portal:Still Alive was about a year ago). Probably your best shot to grab them on the cheap digitally.

Well, KoA will be $40 when released.

It's a great game and I'm 99% sure I'm going to buy it for a third time.. Have the Steam copy with all DLC, plus picked up the 360 version for about $10 a year or so ago.

As far as price tracking goes.. I *really* wish that Deku Deals would branch out and cover Xbox/PSN as well. That format for tracking Switch just works perfect. Everyone else that attempts to do price tracking.. ranges from garbage to "it works sometimes"

(and if you own a Switch and are not familiar with the website... Dekudeals.com for both physical and digital price tracking/history)

If you're going to play it immediately, buy now for cheap. 2 monthsish isn't that far away, but at the same time holy ever loving fuck is it so far away.

So I have some Plex questions, including Jellyfin, in spoiler

#halo

So I got the extra RAM to be running 48gb total. I've been having buffering issues and I'm not sure if it's a network or computer problem. The thinking with the RAM is that it's even faster than an SSD so I set up a 20gb DRAM cache allocation.

I also learned about an alternative server program called Jellyfin. The main difference is it lets you use your GPU for the transcodes. It runs through browser or normal dlna rules afaik. My wife was on the TV tonight after movie night so I haven't played around with it. 50gb 4k file played fine through Plex, but some formats are more challenging.

What if you put them all in your cart online? Throw in that 99¢ shmup or whatever to break the $40 threshold in one transaction
In theory, that should work. But I purchased Konami Arcade Collection for $4.99 yesterday, and it didn't count towards the $40 because it isn't one of the games mentioned as a Deals Unlocked Sale game. So, buying 99 Vidas or Vasara Collection won't count toward the sale.

PSPrices is a similar website to Deku Deals, and it includes PS4, Xbox One, PS Vita, PS3, 3DS, Switch, and Wii U sales.

Here is a link to the Xbox One game sales tab sorted by price. You can separate it by digital sales and retail sales. Hope that helps!

Far Cry 2 is a very garbage game, not sure if I picked up a few weeks ago or years ago just passing it along since I seen it coming up. I can see a lot of the ideas they were going for. It's a #1 example how they use to say all PS3/360 games were using a color palette of "Brown" Crazy when Far Cry 1 as old as it is had an amazing color scheme, seeing the ocean and the forest. Far Cry 3 brought the ideas from 2 together. Sorry that is all.

Can't agree, I really enjoyed 2. It's gritty and hard, I've seen some say it came out too early, before Dark Souls made punishing games popular. I'd love a remaster with some QoL improvements but sadly I think most people side with you and hated it.

Psprices falls into that “works sometimes” category.
Games I’ve had on my wishlist would show up as full price for up to 2 days after they have been on sale, or on sale still after the sale has ended. Deku is instant, Ive seen game listed as on sale inside of a minute after they drop..
And it’s always been a very slow site. I do go there every once in a while though.

Hopefully it has proper HDR and it'll be my next monitor. I've been eyeing the LG 34GK950F-B which is the 144hz FreeSync 2 with faux HDR, but this new one sounds like the successor and even better.

My current monitor is a curved 34" del ultra wide and it is fantastic. When you have a monitor this wide the curve is really nice in my opinion.

How does the UW compare to having dual screen setup? I use dual screen for work, I need to switch between multiple windows on two screens and have at least two windows full size at all times.

Different products for different purposes. I also use a 3440x1440 uw and if a game supports the resolution it's amazing. Not all games do though. And some games (such as overwatch) actually penalize you for using an uw resolution.

For most productivity uses, I find dual screen to be directly easier. Part of what I do is creating workstations for a small business and almost always go dual screen in those instances. That said, uw's can be used to display adjacent windows pretty easily.

..or do what I do and have a 2nd 4k screen (pivoted to portrait) next to my uw. :whee:

I just finished Dark Souls 2 last week on the 360 and had way more fun. Although grinding out 30 sun medallions for the last achievement might have been my "You have a problem" video game moment. Good thing when someone summons you the 360 controller vibrates like crazy, so I could watch TV between the getting summoned every couple of hours ;)

My one major grip so far in Far Cry 2, why do they keep having all these guard posts respawn, what's the point? Map is pretty big and there are plenty of vehicles, but every intersection is stop here you have to kill all these dudes again and repair your vehicle.

Beat Yakuza Kiwami 2 today! Those who aren't a huge fan of the lack of humor and wish the first Kiwami was more like 0, you're in luck! Though still not as amazing as 0, but still damn fine minus the optional tower defense mission AI. Also started Yakuza 3 HD and goddamn, I forgot how nearly all PS1 and early PS2 games had that weird habit of making foot steps LOUDER THAN NECESSARY.

My thing with Yakuza games, why does everyone have a 6 pack? from 6 year olds to 50 year olds? Hell of a diet in those games

Fish, rice, and veggies vs burgers, fries, and diet soda. Funny documentary called “Miso hungry” follows an Australian man who moved to Japan for a month and started eating their usual diet. He started losing so much weight all his pants started falling off. I think it’s still on amazon prime and worth watching.

Both are nearly identical. Setting up your two program windows side-by-side with Windows+Arrow keys is only slightly less convenient than dragging program windows between monitors. You can theoretically get partial view of three programs on one screen by having the CLI or something topmost--some program windows don't like to adjust with the Windows key--and have three views going.

I have a Dell ultrawide and another regular Dell monitor in my office at work, and there's not much difference between that setup and the one I have at home. Screen sharing is easier with regular-sized monitors, as the aspect ratio isn't thrown off like they would be with the ultrawide. But in person, the ultrawide is easier for tech demonstrations. And it's easier to keep track of your cursor on the one monitor.

Yakuza 3 was a PlayStation 3 game. Also, I am playing Kiwami 2, how did you get through the game without being sucked into the Hostess club side missions? I won't rest until my Hostess club is the greatest one in all of Japan.

That sounds pretty interesting. How did you even hear about this documentary? Is the guy a famous comedian or something?

Xbox Game Pass had been tempting me for a while now and how much I loved the Cyberpunk 2077-themed Xbox One X's design broke my resistance. That and its price and my love for Cyberpunk from having played Cyberpunk 2020 in my youth.

I have a question I hope you can help me with:

I know what the conversion ratio is for when you redeem Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass codes after you've joined Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

What about the duration of your current subscriptions when you join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the first time? Are those still added and converted at a 1:1 ratio?

I haven't seen it mentioned here but I'm not terribly excited about the Digital Direct method for redeeming digital content that Xbox has debuted with this console's release. I was planning on selling the included Cyberpunk 2077 code and buying a physical copy and this makes it much more difficult to do so.

The Digital Direct stuff isn't that prevalent, there's still plenty of codes through gifting, 3rd party retailers, etc.

EDIT: spoke too soon, it's something new they're rolling out for future bundles.

I had some gift card money and bought Crash and Spyro for $19.99 each, which comes to $39.98, and us apparently still too low to satisfy the $40 threshold for the rewards bonus. Am annoyed.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Spoiler tags for semi-OT:

I'd like to spend $300 or less. It seems its either ~$200 or ~$400+ for the much nicer ones. I don't have a proper gaming PC right now, if I run Steam its on an ultrabook without a dedicated GPU. This would mainly be for work and also the spare X1S. I don't do much gaming in my work space, but if my girlfriend wants to use the big TV, I use the smaller setup to play online sometimes. If I had a nice gaming PC I'd probably be more open to dropping ~$500 on a monitor.

Looking at this one right now, it's in my price range and has good reviews for office work and gaming:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-xf270h-27-led-fhd-freesync-monitor-black/6096600.p?skuId=6096600

Apparently the pictures are not accurate, it has a very thin bezel which I'm also looking for. If I buy it and like it, I'd consider buying a second one and not using my laptop screen at all.

It may only affect software and subscriptions bundled with new console purchases but it can still be a nuissance if you'd rather sell or gift those.

yeah you ain't gifting that one. Ms has never really acknowledged this is your "Home" Xbox even after getting internet "pwned" by the PS4 video on how here is how you share games. I'm perfectly fine if they don't and let it continue as is. You have the title in your digital profile/library Deuteros probably wouldn't stress it that much.

There should still be a way, but it involves signing in on your console with someone else's account and claiming the game under that account.

Not much of a problem if gifting something to a friend, a completely different beast if selling something to a stranger.

I've been idly watching 1440p/QHD monitors with 120hz+ modes for my PC (I moved my 24" closer on my desk to read better in WoW), preferably with HDR, and yeah 300-450 seems the 27" range with sales.

Digital Direct is not perfect for us, but I know people it will be great for. Turn it on and the game is already waiting to be updated? Not bad.
