• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
• On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I'll never understand how people are getting so excited over CGI game reveals. They literally showed nothing about the game. What's there to be excited about Avowed?

I agree. But with the next gen coming soon, games should at least be CGI quality in terms of graphics and detail. There should be no difference. You shouldn't be able to tell game play from movie segments.

Had some achievement weirdness last night. Unlocked 6 achievements in Streets of Rage 4, none of them counted for the monthly game pass quest, nor the weekly “unlock an achievement” quest, nor the 50 point daily quest in the console app.

All of them are on my profile, TrueAchievements scanned them just fine. I didn’t have the little number beside the Achievements icon on the Guide menu showing recent unlocks, but if I go to the game’s information page on the console it shows them unlocked. It’s like they counted on my gamer score profile and nowhere else.

Anybody have anything similar happen? I’ll probably just have to try to get some achievements in other games today to complete the weekly quest.

I'll never understand how people are getting so excited over CGI game reveals. They literally showed nothing about the game. What's there to be excited about Avowed?

It makes no sense with a new IP, but a little something to show that a game we all know is on the way is enough to get people excited. We all know State of Decay 3 won't look that good.

The Fable reveal set the tone of the game, so that's a nice thing to have. I remember the original Fable 2 reveal and it was in an open unfinished world and it was just all about jumping fences and playing with the dog.

Had some achievement weirdness last night. Unlocked 6 achievements in Streets of Rage 4, none of them counted for the monthly game pass quest, nor the weekly “unlock an achievement” quest, nor the 50 point daily quest in the console app.

All of them are on my profile, TrueAchievements scanned them just fine. I didn’t have the little number beside the Achievements icon on the Guide menu showing recent unlocks, but if I go to the game’s information page on the console it shows them unlocked. It’s like they counted on my gamer score profile and nowhere else.

Anybody have anything similar happen? I’ll probably just have to try to get some achievements in other games today to complete the weekly quest.

The best thing for me about the Microsoft conference is that all these new studios are going to be making higher tier games then they have ever made before. How can I say that? That’s due to Microsoft opening the wallet and allowing these studios to acquire additional employees. I fully expect State of Decay 3 to look and play significantly better then 2 since Microsoft is funding the team more fully and they have been with Microsoft for longer now.

That means you might see some stumbling on the onset as these studios learn to work well especially with new people in the crew but the future of Xbox is bright. The direction Phil has pushed Xbox is forcing Sony and Nintendo to keep pushing forward and be innovative too and it’s great for all of us.

I have the same issue. I unlocked 13 achievements in two different game pass games last night and nothing counted. I’m also only getting 1 point per search on bing right now. The whole rewards system is broken for me right now. I hope it works itself out because I have a good streak going on Xbox and I need three achievements to finish off this weeks streak.

I expect the big first party games from Microsoft will release about one every 6 months. That is how they keep people on Game Pass. I’d rather just buy the couple games I’m interested in when they go on sale.

Or they might keep people on GamePass with the hundreds of other 3rd party offerings they have. Honestly MS first party games are about the least interesting on the service for me. Been playing Final Fantasy XV this week, just finished Carrion and Devil May Cry 5, going to be playing DragonQuest X1 in December, so I already got my full subscription price worth.

So I guess MS is starting to walk back a little on the cross-gen status of games. What this most likely means is that games like Fable, Avowed, Forza, Everwild, and State of Decay 3 are many years away since Phil Spencer said they would be supporting cross-gen for "a few years". Those games did not list Xbox One in their trailers I guess.

Future 1P titles are developed for Xbox Series X first. Not saying those games won’t ship on Xbox One, only that we are leading with Series X & each studio will decide what's best for their game/community when they launch.
 
I was always going to upgrade but it does now call into question how far away some of these game are from launch. 
 
It seems both MS and Sony are in a weak position game-wise right now for their next gen systems launch. I am glad I still have a bunch of great current gen stuff to play at least.

A movie trailer actually shows the movie. An artist you already know their music. None of what you said compares to a CGI trailer that shows nothing, or just a title trailer like Fable was or Elder Scrolls 6.

Of course they want all of us to buy the Series X, or they wouldn't have discontinued 66% of the available Xbox One models. I give the Xbox One S maybe one last year on the market, before it's totally phased out. I remember when Microsoft said that it saw the 360 and the One existing side by side in the gaming market, only for all of the 360s to be completely clearanced out within six months of the One's release. A similar situation happened with Sony, they said that there was room in the gaming market for the PS3, the PSVita, and the PS4 to all coexist with eachother. The PSVita lasted longer, but within the first year of the PS4 being out all PS3s disappeared from stores.

Yeah that makes sense, and I don't think it's really walking it back. They said at most a couple of years from what i've read, not a few and I saw nothing with the ones you listed that makes me think they are anywhere close to being released before a couple of years is up. They basically were just announcements, not even first looks. I could maybe see Everwild straddling the line between both systems since we've seen at least some kind of in game visuals, but the other ones seem very far out. I still think they'll have things maybe smaller in scope that release on both that we might not have even seen yet in the mean time. Smaller games like an Ori, or Battletoads or the upcoming Grounded that could be coming out for quite some time, they seem perfectly happy that not every one of their releases is a AAA production. 

The one game I was kind of bummed about was Hellblade II, I thought that was a lot closer to being a reality than it looks like it really is. If just from their only mention in this last show is, check out these locations we scouted out.

It’s nice they want games to work across the Xbox family but it’s not feasible. The One and One S are too underpowered to play upcoming games without severely handcuffing them or the Series X version. Clearly the games coming out next year and beyond are built on the Series X and if they can get them to work on the Xbox One without any issues, they will but they’re not going to require their devs to release games that play like trash.

The confusing thing is if the Series S isn’t actually real, why discontinue the 1X instead of the 1S?

Absolutely. I ended up having to buy a physical copy for my Switch because I like owning my games. It even came with a digital code for free too. It's too bad MS has some insane print requirement for games to be made physically on the system. Hopefully that eventually changes.

I wrapped up Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order earlier this week. I loved the exploration mechanics (minus those stupid slides). I don't feel like I really ever got the combat. The map and transversal needs in some areas was atrocious. I enjoyed the story and was fine with how it ended. Overall, I feel like I definitely got my money's worth at $30.

I paid the full price but I think that's a pretty fair assessment. I think Jedi and Control were neck and neck for my game of 2019, until I remember that Sekiro was released in March 2019. The two aforementioned games had obvious flaws but man they have a base to build on. Need sequels to all 3 games.

The 1 point per search thing means ms rewards put you in their dumb trial they have going on right now.

And yes I went to collect my 2,500 from the weekly punch card last night and see it only counted 2 out of my 4 achievements in forager and I had for those the previous night so my 2 new ones last night didn’t count.

Achievements in forager take awhile to get so it pissed me off extra this time.

Today, almost all of the quests kicked in. No action from my part that I can think of (all I had done today was open a GP game on PC just long enough for the daily quest to trigger, no other Xbox playing) but when I went into the phone app, all the relevant quests for getting achievements had completed and were ready to turn in. Checked the console Rewards app, and it now shows 3/3 achievements for the week.

Yeah, I second this. It's worked for me too sometimes.

I can confirm this as well. I think you have to do it really late at night or very early morning for it to work though. Basically get 2x50 points rewards for one achievement. However the rewards app will not recognize my achievements some days, like yesterday. I think I may be giving up on the daily 50 points since it is so frustrating when it does not register.
