General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

They are buying the game, gifting themselves two copies then refunding the main purchase LOL... I love refunds and i get a lot of refunds from xbox but its always for a reason yet refunding this to get two copies for free (well 5gbp/$10 each) is really evil even to me :D

This said I would probably buy Cold war and have 2 or 1 copy available but it would need to be a little more than just the gift price since I am not refunding it so any offers welcome, maybe we should start a thread for it where people can offer the two gifts if they own a copy?

I am actually suprised this price glitch isnt getting more attention. People are all over price glitches usually. Maybe COD is dying if people dont even want 3 copies for 1?

I can't even get my digital copy of COD Cold war to upgrade to the Series X version for $10. The copy I bought from Newegg shows up as an edition not currently available in the Xbox store. I tried going through Xbox support chat, but it said that the issue cant be solved online. I gave them my phone number to see if they will call me back and handle it that way.

I hear that there are many issues running the regular version of the game on the Series X, so I hope to solve this issue soon. If not, trying to save $10 and buying the game through Newegg might cost me more in the long run.

I had the same problem. I called Xbox Support and with my permission they bought me the Cross Gen version and then refunded me so I only paid $10 to upgrade.
 
CoD cold war $9.99 cross-gen bundle also works with 6000pt microsoft rewards offer. Effectively making the $69.99 cross-gen bundle $3.99.

Maybe Activision should have just used Smart Delivery instead of trying to squeeze an extra $10 out of less than 5 million Xbox Series customers 🤔

Seems most reddit threads about the glitch are being locked and closed. Pretty easy to do yourself right now. Just don't buy the standard game from newegg or cdkeys or anything. It won't let you gift the $9.99 upgrade to yourself.

The game runs like phooey right now, but $4 for a digital copy, I'll take it. That's Mass Effect Andromeda pricing.

I’m confused at your math, are you returning the $59.99 version after doing the upgrade? I have too many digital games to risk a ban for an exploit like this, saving $60 doesn’t seem worth it to me if they were to take action on accounts buying, upgrading and returning. I’ve spent thousands on my library of games, I think I’ll pass on this one.

I think they're talking about those that get it gifted to them. Though I am sure there are people gifted themselves the game and then requesting a refund on the X1 version (which is an idiotic thing to do as you are just asking for a ban).

Found my first real complaint about Star Wars Fallen Order...most of these sliding sections. Who the fuck designed these? Hey did you just clear out an area with like 10 Stormtroopers? Great! Now here is a sliding section you cannot complete for "reasons" and there is no way to turn back so your health just widdles down until you die and you have respawn and do it all over. It is seriously rage inducing.

I still can't figure out who designed a jedi storyline that requires you to murder every living thing you meet. I kept trying to figure out how to sneek around the stormtroopers for like the first hour of the game...I even googled it. Guess old ben was wrong, there are no alternatives to fighting...

It looks fantastic and runs extremely smooth, load times are crazy also. Now I hope Aftermath goes for $20 on the new sale, might even cave and get the new Kombat Pack.
To whoever wanted to take their time to upgrade to a new system let me just tell you... you are missing out.

I remember reading a review and they kept referring to slides to separate levels ala Mario 64 and I was so confused. Then I played the game and, yeah, it's almost literally like in Mario 64. 25 years of Metroidvania games and that was the best they could do to build separate / distinct sections of levels? It's my only big complaint about the game, which I otherwise enjoyed a lot. Levels you're revisiting for collectibles should also have a fast-travel / exit option, or exit points for your ship. I would have 100%'d it but traversing levels just to climb out of them again became too tedious.

Cal killing everything in sight at least makes sense in that it's right after the purge and there's a huge target on his back, he's also very new to Jedi training so he may not actually be that good at not-fighting.

These are nitpicks though. It's a great game.

Agree with both of your points. I’m actually playing through again and not having fast travel sucks so bad.

I see where you're coming from and I even tried to accept this...it's just, wouldn't it have made more sense for him to start out that way but as he recalled his force connection and training, his methods of approach become more "jedi"?

I'm die hard old school star wars so these new storylines can be a tough pill for me to swallow. Yeah these are nitpicks and overall, the game is worth a play through, but I don't see it adding up to the hype of the reviews out there. To me, it didn't "feel" like star wars but it "looked" like star wars. Honestly, I was holding out hope for a plot twist or something to fill in the gaps I found...which just left me disappointed in the end even though I was enjoying the play through. Kind of felt like it should have been Force Unleashed 3 or something....

Maybe this was successful enough to warrant other "jedi" stories and perhaps I will get a game that scratches that itch for me...

I did really enjoy the Battlefront II storyline, it felt more star wars for me than FO. Hopes for Repubic Commando reboot!!! I'm excited to try Squadrons soon.

Even better, on some of them it's like the camera actively tries to kill you. Doing a high-speed slide with instant death if you miss a jump? I'm sure you want to watch the beautiful scenery fly by as we point the camera sideways!

Many of the areas in the game were outdoors and open...it's a story about a guy who has spent a great deal of his life avoiding confrontation with the empire's minions....maybe sneak around the jungle some as an alternative to charging head first into situation where you largely outnumbered...

He acted more like a Sith than a Jedi in this game...

 
I finally found time to finish up Control.  I have mixed feelings about it.  

I won't rant about the performance issues.

It starts off slow and very difficult since you're underpowered - but I slogged through it because I wanted to see what the raves were about.  It wasn't until closer to the midpoint that I really started to enjoy it, when I had all of my powers and was actually using the mods (the ashtray maze section is awesome).  I remember a few months back where some CAGs were calling it GOTY and a few weren't that impressed.  The dissenters were shut down as trolls, and maybe they were because of their posting habits, but I can see it both ways.  I don't hate the game - it actually gets fun after while and has a good story line, and is gorgeous.  I also was incredibly frustrated with the early difficulty, the performance issues, and some of the uneven enemy encounters (seriously, who thought the second Tommasi battle was a good idea they way it was?).  Also, I enjoy a good story, but I'm not willing to dig and read through everything in this game to make all of the connections.  Hell, I read a simplified article that connects the Remedy universe together and it was even too much. 

I'm fine with what I got out of it for $35.  But when I was finished, I was finished - I didn't really want to finish up every little thing minor side quest and mission.  I might get the DLC if it ever goes on sale cheap enough and revisit it but I'm not dying for more and the moment.  I've got my fill of it.  We'll see how that goes - the crap Remedy is pulling with the definitive edition will probably make me wait a while on any of their future titles.

I started SuperHot:MCD and the first Deponia game.  Had fun with both so far!  SuperHot is always fun for small, mindless doses of action.    Deponia is a solid adventure game.  Man I miss the halcyon days of PC point-and-click adventure games from Sierra and LucasArts.  I hope the remasters of the 3 LucasArts games go on sale during Black Friday.  I need to introduce them to my kids.

Agreed in that regard - there would have been plenty of opportunities to not initiate combat in some levels and sections vs "if it moves, kill it." But I also don't really care because it's a game. The most interesting part of the game is the combat and force powers, so if they found a ton of excuses to avoid combat then that would also be weird.

Now if they made a hybrid between Fallen Order and KOTOR, with dialogue trees and optional things to talk your way out of fighting, THAT would be cool.

You mean the same old school star wars where Obi Wan savagely cuts off a dude's arm in a bar fight? Is he a sith too??

But seriously, all the star wars stories of young jedi show them being somewhat reckless early on in their training as they learn that hate and anger can lead them to the dark side, this is no different in my opinion.

I agree on with you in the end-game, when I had all the powers and was going around doing the collectibles for the achievements. I basically could sprint to where I needed to go, and avoided all the combat I could.

But in the beginning of the game, you can try to sneak around, and avoid some encounters, to a degree. But you could not go through without having the enemies become aggressive.

So to me, that just means he went from an experienced force user and learned some of the Jedi stuff along the journey. By the time he was a Jedi, he actually possessed the skills necessary to uphold their morals. Until then, it was all self-defense.

I remember him attempting to defuse the situation, apologized, offered to buy them a drink...that arm laying on the ground was holding a blaster iirc...He also used mind tricks and snuck around danger. Even scared the savages in the desert away instead of confronting them.

Maybe portraying the young jedi as reckless makes sense but he never grew from that...I get that the game is based on melee combat and not stealth, and I'm not saying I'm right or others are wrong. Perhaps I just went into the game with different expectations and was ultimately disappointed about the story direction.
 
Don't they usually announce the BF sale preview by now? Early Access for Gold members usually starts the Thursday before Thanksgiving and Major Nelson posts a blog post about it days before.

I think last year it went live the Thursday or Friday prior to Thanksgiving... So possibly tomorrow.

That's where I differ, I probably enjoyed the game a lot more because I did want to see every little note and do every little side quest to squeeze every little bit of lore I could get out of it. There is a lot more there than just "Remedy" universe stuff, just weird things connected to the paranormal you see in these thousands of podcasts.

I do think the combat mechanics can be a bit rough and some of the end boss fights were not fun. Also some very weird check points leading up to those boss fights. Not that it's actually difficult to get back to the boss but why do you have me run this far to get there?

It varies, sometimes we get a heads up in some kinda post or YouTube video, other times we get the "oh yeah, sale currently going on" post for seasonal sales. Regardless it usually drops around noon so we'll see.

As someone who bought the game at launch, followed by the season pass when the first DLC released, I was burnt by the definitive edition nonsense as I already paid for all of the same content but I won't get a next gen upgrade. That said, it's on the publisher and not Remedy in this case. Rather than hold it against them I would see if they maintain this publishing relationship for their future titles.

Mutant Year Zero was one of my first Gamepass games. That was that a good one.

I bought the complete edition with the DLC from gamestop for $8.

Demon's Tilt is a good one too. Hopefully that will go on sale one day and I will add it to my library. If it ever hits $5 I will buy it. It's one of those perfect gamepass games that I would never buy for its current asking price but enjoyed playing it on gamepass.

They usually start going live Thursday afternoon and price scanners pick them up, but aren't officially announced / finalized until Friday.
