General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I noticed that for Gamepass for Xbox. Anything for Gamepass for PC?

I was interested in My Friend Pedro but it takes 15 to 20 hours to complete acc. to TA and January's 10,000 GS Challenge will force me to prioritize the easy to complete games this month on Xbox.

I also acquired the game on PC via HB so I can still play the game in the future.

Any word on when the HBO Max app will be upgraded to 4K? Been watching WW84 through Airplay from my phone on my CX just because Dolby Vision makes a night and day difference but it’s not the same.

Hadn’t thought of avs. They probably would know. Calling Sony might be my best bet. After the weekend, I’ll try and get in touch with an actual tv store clerk too. There’s a chance they would know.
I hadn’t thought of eArc until the reply I got on Reddit mentioned it. It should work fine but I want to check up on it as much as I can.

Only one of the HDMI ports is 2.1. If I had waited until later this year to upgrade I may have gone with the Sony but the LG CX was already perfect for my needs with all 4 ports being 2.1.
 
Did the spend $50 for 5000 point punchcard end already?  I assumed it would last until the sale ends but I don't see it on my Xbox or Bing page on my computer.  

 
Prey and the Wolfenstein games are Bethesda and will come to Gamepass correct? Trying to talk myself out of buying them before the sale ends.
 
I still have a $4 copy of Breakpoint waiting for me at Best Buy. Not sure if I should bother picking up a game I’ll probably never play, lol.
 
Am I missing something or why is Gears 5 download file low on the Series X with the DLC included? How do I know if I got the Series X enhancements on it?

When you load it it will prompt to download a load of shit till you can actually play. Happened to me last night when I wanted to play the expansion.

I purchased $56 worth of games from the countdown sale yesterday but the punchcard only showed $34. At midnight it disappeared and I couldn’t redeem. So I contacted customer service and they just replied telling me that I made the order on January 2nd and that’s why I didn’t get the points...

Anybody have any luck with customer service regarding these punch card issues?

Just a heads up. The smart delivery screwed up on my Gears 5 update. It left the base game on the external drive and installed a 60gb patch on the internal. The game would load but none of the menu options were select-able. I had to delete the separate files and re-download the entire game to internal. I think if I would have moved Gears 5 to the internal before the update, it would have applied the patch properly.

Got my $10 auto redeem and had enough points for an extra $10. Splurged and bought the Shadowgate Remake for $20.

Same thing happened to me with the external and internal thing. I ended up having to delete everything and starting all over.

Have a visa gift card I was going to use to pick up some games from the sale tonight but now that the punchcard is gone guess I'll wait, they were all going into the backlog anyway. All I ended up getting from the sale was an Apex Legends cosmetics pack.

Here's my rough breakdown of games for 2020:

Played: 55

Beat: 36 (32 with all achievements)

Bought: 59

Pretty good beat to played percentage I'd say, especially considering 8 of the 19 games I didn't beat are multiplayer games.

When was it supposed to end? I thought it was ending on the 4th like the movies punchcard. Went to make sure it was still active yesterday afternoon before buying Dirt 5 Amped Ed and I couldn't find it anymore.

The “free” Xbox money from the Rewards and those Punch Cards really do push you to buy stuff. And I figured out that using the Xbox console and browsing the store there gives you the option to buy the UHD version of movies you already own on HD. Wasn’t able to do that on my mobile devices. Ended up getting TDK Trilogy 4k and some other 4K MA movies to complete the Movie Punch Card, then got back enough points to get Ugly Dolls free for the kiddos. Used bates cash back too as always.

For those of you that use CB sites, be aware that Microsoft usually offers a better reward for shopping on their own site (and occasionally others). It’s been 7% CB on microsoft.com lately

I’m glad they’re finally allowing us to buy the UHD versions of movies we already own. A couple months ago, that wasn’t possible.
 
Well, with the news of Tekken 7 leaving Game Pass, I decided to see how many achievements I could grab quickly.  Well, it was a lot easier/quicker than I thought. I have everything except winning a match in an online tournament - I can't seem to find any tournaments online. There is also an achievement for getting all of the achievements. So really, I just have that one goal.

If enough other people want to grab that achievement, maybe we can meet up online for it at a specific time. TA says you might be able to do it with just 4 people. Otherwise it's 8 people in a full tournament match.

Countdown sale ending warning.

The sale prices on a number of countdown sale items have a 16 hour countdown, while others have a 6 hour countdown (I've seen Gears 5 and Marvel's Avengers).  So don't expect that sale to run through Tuesday morning with the regular weekly sale.  If you're holding off on last minute purchases, make them soon.

 
I notice that a lot of people in this thread seem to just play games for achievements or microsoft rewards. Is this enjoyable for you guys as kind of a meta-game? I am not criticizing but just have a hard time rationalizing playing a random game from a genre I don't like just because it gives easy achievements. Are you guys doing this ON TOP of playing the actual good games? I guess if that's the case then it makes some sense as a side activity. I am unable to even keep up with the AAA highly rated games and top tier Indies so I definitely don't have time to just play a random game for achievements.

I’m with you. Most people seem to justify it by talking about how they earned so much doing this, that or the other. If I need to make a couple hundred bucks I just pick up a little extra work. I guess I’m fortunate enough to be able to get close to $30 an hour when I want to get some extra work which I know is not going to be the norm for most, but given how many people here are buying thousands of dollars in frivolous things pretty frequently I would think they are in at least a somewhat similar position to myself. Playing games I have no interest in for achievements literally just sounds like a horrible paying job I could not get out of fast enough. But then again I will literally sit at my computer and organize digital files because I don’t like the way a certain file structure was set up and spend an overly long time doing it because I kind of “enjoy” that kind of thing. Different strokes and all that.
 
What is the deal with the different versions of Black Ops Cold War? I am sure it has been discussed but I can’t find it. I have a Series S but it’s hooked up to a 1080p tv. I don’t have 4K and don’t plan on upgrading until my current tv dies. In my situation would saving $10 for the “regular” edition be ok instead of the Series x/s version?
 
There were a lot of issues with Xbox One version on Series S/X when it released. Since the regular Xbox version isn’t optimized for S/X, you will basically be playing the regular Xbox One version with zero enhancements. I have the Next Gen version for the Series S and really enjoy it. Load times are fast and visuals look solid. However, you could always buy the cheaper version and test out the performance. If you don’t like it, you can pay $10 for the next gen upgrade.

I'm playing Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and enjoying it, but holy fuck I wish this game had fast travel. Like holy shit I know it wants to be casual Dark Souls, but just lean more on the casual/modern gaming and give me fucking fast travel.

I mean, you can travel between planets but I know what you mean. Once you do the objective on that planet, you have to make it all the way back to your ship. The game doesn't give you the option to go their automatically. I am almost certain it's so you can explore with your new powers places you couldn't get to but give me the option to go directly back to my ship at least. Oh well.

I'm stuck in an Apex Legends cycle at the moment. I'm at level 103/110 on the Season pass so I feel like I'm stuck doing the daily challenges until I hit 110 and then I can play something else.
