• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Probably, I don't see a major sale happening now that the holidays are over. It does sound like accounts that have regular Gold (not Ultimate) are grandfathered in at the old price but it doesn't say how long.

Last night I saw a reddit post of a physical store being told to pull their current Gold cards, so they'll probably be discontinued fairly soon at retail.

If you add a 12-month Gold card after you already have GPU, it will only give you 4 months of GPU, not 12.

Once you upgrade to GPU any Gold Sub you redeem will only be a fraction of what it is now. Your 12 months Gold will convert to something like 3 months. I would wait to upgrade to GPU until you can use it.

Thanks Pheran and Gideon68.  Hopefully, they will still have the free conversion in a few months when I am capable of adding the last of my 12 month codes.  I think it makes more sense to wait the three months, add the last code and convert the three years instead of purchasing a six month code now, converting and then adding a 12 month code when usable that will only convert to 4 months of GPU.  Gotta love CAG for people who are kind enough to help.

They weren't small patches, but they weren't full game size either. I want to say Gears 5 was 40 or 60GB. But do yourself a favor and move any game that requires to be installed on the internal drive to the internal drive BEFORE launching the game and triggering the updates. I had more than one game that installed the series X upgrade patch separately leaving the base game on my external drive. I then had to delete both and redownload the entire game

This is the best possible advice. Couldn't for the life of me figure out why Gears 5 wouldn't launch.

The most interesting thing to me about it is they don't even acknowledge 12 month codes, which sounds like they may be phased out. I'm assuming they want to make GPU more attractive to hold-outs who only pay for Gold currently, since the long-term goal is to bundle them as one giant service. Itemizing subscriptions (Gold but no Game Pass, Game Pass but no Gold, etc) probably requires more upkeep too than if everyone had all the same stuff.

If your only goal is to play Game Pass games and redeem GWG games through the alt to play on your main, then that should work fine as long as both accounts are set as your home console. Once the license is active on a home account, all other accounts can play them on that console. Example - my girlfriend can launch any GWG or Game Pass games attached to me through her own account and she has no paid subs.

If you planned to play on the alt, that would technically work fine too, as any games purchased on the other account should still be available through the home console license.

Honestly, this price hike just made my PS5 more attractive. With such a big backlog, it has me considering how much I honestly use Live/Game Pass vs shifting a little bit to PS, especially considering PS+ at CDKeys for ~$30 annually and consistently better PS+ titles each month. the 1:1 ratio is if you're new to game pass ultimate. Once you've done the conversion, any 12 month codes after that get the 4 month ratio.

There shouldn't be any issue with this as long as the second account has your Xbox set as Home. If you play on more than one Xbox it will be more of a headache on the secondary machines.

I think you only need one account to have Gold on your (Home) Xbox for all profiles to access online, though I live alone so haven't tried in a long time.

The only real negative here would be GWG and Ultimate bonuses being tied to the secondary account.

Sure, but the issue isn't so much for the tiny minority like us. It makes Xbox less appealing in general, and a harder sell to newcomers or skeptics. Having the cheapest console for next gen is basically negated now with Gold being double the cost PS+ on top of the tiny storage size, and the Gold requirement for F2P games

The gamble here is hoping the newcomers are all in on Ultimate, and the past supporters either already bought in to next gen or have enough invested that they want to stay here.

All that said, if Sony raises PS+ to the same or similar price, a lot of these complaints sort of evaporate. It seems possible since they're pushing for $70 games.

That's exactly why it's now. Christmas is done, the console still sells the second it's available, and this negativity doesn't directly cause fallout on an imminent release. If they're going to burn goodwill, which they definitely are, do it at basically the start of the generation and assume most of the negativity will blow over by the time new stuff is coming.

I agree with everything you said. In addition, picking a PS5 and paying for PS+ (at least at it’s current price), also comes with the PS+ Collection. While it’s not nearly as robust as Game Pass, it offers hundreds of hours in game play and some very solid titles, in addition to the free monthly games that seem to be better quality than GwG overall.

The fact that you can play all free to play games like Fortnite, Rocket League, Apex, COD Warzone, Wareframe, etc. for free on PS4/PS5 without a PS+ sub but that costs a regular Xbox player $120 a year to play free to play games since gold is required for all online games is just shit.

GamePass is still the system seller IMO and the best deal in gaming. It craps on PS Now. People who I know getting Xbox Series X aren’t getting Gold, they’re getting GPU. Just this month alone I’m getting to play a brand new $50 game, The Medium, day one.

I have a PS5 and play exclusives there, but GamePass keeps me coming back to Xbox because there’s new stuff all the time, including games I may never had tried.

On the topic of Gold, Kingdom of Amular Re-Reconing is free to play this weekend. I have the 360 version disc in my backlog somewhere but thought I would check it out on my One X. I thought it played pretty well for a 360 game in 2021 and decided 3 days isn't long enough to really enjoy it. Would love to see it on Game Pass down the road.

As was point out earlier, the Madden/FIFA/COD only gang is probably going to jump to PS over this. They likely started playing for Live back in 2006 when the 360 was the best game in town and all their friends got one to play together.

As someone who buys a lot of games the GamePass selection hasn't always been enough keep me from still wanting to buy other games. I do think it's worth it in general now but it took probably a year or two of basically free use to get to that opinion.

With years of selling games at retail as experience, I can definitely say that many people spend very little on gaming in general, not much beyond the minimum and the few games they're interested in, so GamePass isn't an instant slam dunk even with a large selection. I think there is still a ways to go as MS wants people to view gaming with GP like they do a video streaming service, most people just aren't there yet.

I looked up their history, recently it's been Skylanders Destiny support, and TH 1+2. I had forgotten they were the original THPS devs. As someone that plays a lot of Blizzard games I don't mind them getting a talent infusion. This is probably the best solution, sounds like what happened with the Final Fantasy VII Remake, except after releasing a game that ended up somewhat mixed. Division 1 still has at least two RE teams as far as I'm aware, so it's hard to say who will be doing the bulk of the work.

I finished Terminator: Resistance last night.  Thanks for the heads-up about this game here, I'd never even heard of it.  My thoughts:

Graphics: The graphics are nothing to write home about, and don't live up to a 2019 game.  They look somewhere between a late-gen 360 game and an early-gen X1 game, and this is with all the advantages of my Series X.  The game could really use a makeover in this department (I guess this may be happening on PS5).  Grade: C

Sound: Brad Fiedel's classic Terminator score is used to full advantage here, the game is chock full of Terminator music and sound effects.  Some of the plasma weapons sound like they were lifted straight from the future scenes in T2.  The only downside is it can get a little repetitive, especially when the combat music kicks in every time some silly little silverfish activates.  Grade: A-

Gameplay: The gameplay isn't standout, but it's a decent shooter with a crafting and upgrade system.  The biggest problem is game balance.  I played on hard difficulty and the game was mostly a cakewalk for 2 reasons - the first is that the game absolutely showers you with resources if you take the time to look for them, and the second is that you can create some pretty badass/overpowered weapons by using the chip upgrade system.  Grade: B

Story: While there's nothing amazing or shocking about the story, it makes good use of its Terminator license and like Dark Fate, this game fits right in as a direct sequel to T2, though this plot and the Dark Fate one conflict.  That doesn't bother me, I just consider them alternate timelines since there's always time travel going on in the Terminator universe.  Terminator fans will feel right at home here.  Grade: B+

Complaints: While it may have been cost-prohibitive, I was sad that there was no licensing of Arnold's likeness or voice.  That definitely would have upped the feeling of really being in the Terminator universe.  Also, Sony and Microsoft stupidly forced two scenes in the game to be censored (you'll know them when you reach them), likely because of idiotic American attitudes toward nudity.  But these scenes are short and the uncensored versions are available on YouTube if you want to see them.

Achievements: Very easy to get 1000/1000 if you just read the achievement list, nothing easily missable.

Overall: I enjoyed the game, but I wouldn't have wanted to pay more than the $20 price point from the recent sale.  It's definitely a "B" grade game, but it's enjoyable if you are a Terminator fan and want to be in the middle of the post-Judgment Day war with the machines.
