• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
• On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

This collection is also now on steam, but not on sale currently. Next time the second game is $10 (was ~2 weeks ago) I'm going to nab that bundle.

Finally played an FPS on the Series X by way of my $5 copy of Infinite Warfare for some mindless change of pace after Yakuza 7, and I have one major complaint about the new controller. (Side note - mindless definitely describes that game).

Pushing L3 and R3 is way harder on the newest controller, it requires quite a bit more effort than other controllers (and notably PS3 / Ps4 controllers, I ruined a DS3 with Destiny). After playing for ~2 hours, I noticed my hand was aching a little from how much resistance L3 gives for running / accelerating. It's been fine for games that don't use it much, this was the first game that's needed it frequently.

I noticed pushing on the sticks was stiffer while playing AC Valhalla. I’m not sure if I’ve gotten used to it or they’ve broken in some but I don’t notice it as much. The controllers are a bit better(not that the controller needed much improvement), but that stiffness was disappointing.

Played through the Gears 5 expansion this weekend with my wife on my one X.  Every single achievement that popped was a rare one so it seems like a lot of people are sleeping on it and missing out on a great piece of content.  The story arc for the characters is a little too quick but the game play is solid gears and the environments are some of the best in the series.  Quite impressed with how pretty it was.  It inspired us to go back and through the series again, will probably finish the first one tonight.

Likely CD Projekt Red couldn't afford to pay a ransom if they had wanted. Apparently, a number of companies have given in, with Ubisoft, Crytek and Capcom being recent exceptions. Ransomware attacks are becoming too common, and many companies give in to hide/keep not just data and properties, but also keep internal communications from getting out. (I was researching this to see how many game companies have been hit in 2020, and a few articles mentioned how security companies and government agencies have explained to reporters that companies give in, even when they're told not to - no information was showing how many pay and still have things leaked.)

The HR stuff is where they are likely concerned. The game is out, people know about how poor it is. It's how the working conditions were that could be most devastating to them now. That could basically break a company if the public image is so poor that investors feel the damage is irreversible.

That's what I mean by slowing, or even possibly ending, fixing Cyberpunk (by ending CDPR). They planned on updating and fixing it through the year, trying to win back public support. But if there is revelations about it being an awful company to work for, or if there's conversations about the game not being ready for older consoles but the decision was made to sell it anyway, that could be the final blow to a company like them. Employees could leave, hirings would be difficult, and player support might drop.

They shouldn't be hacked, extorted or threatened, but I do find it odd they revealed this when it doesn't seem to affect players. Ubisoft gave no comment when hacked, Crytek was similar, and Capcom only commented after, having concerns about player data.

It's the HR documents and studio image the hackers are threatening that makes me so curious about the news. They seem confident it would hurt them. I guess I'm just looking at how CDPR went public with this, wondering if they're trying to get ahead and spin the story.

Agree. It's pretty great - especially for free on Gamepass. It seems clear that it was meant to introduce and hype the Hivebuster stuff, so I don't understand their purpose of releasing it so late unless it was a last minute thought that couldn't get finished at release. Either way, it's great and beautiful.

My only two complaints are that it could have been longer and also the dialog was messed up like it is in a few other games. If you have the Xbox set to 5.1 or 7.1 surround in the general system settings, the dialog does not play correctly through some speakers and it comes out muffled or echoed. I have the same problem with Civ 6 but not with most other games.

I thought about writing something to them about that. With data caps expanding and game sizes being very large for many titles, it would be great if they eliminated the strain on that. If it can be streamed from the Beta Cloud, or if you can get it early from Smart Installs, I guess that helps. But it is annoying that massive installs are done in the quest for a few pennies (or are required for a monthly goal). This is also made worse when you are juggling with a smaller hard drive.

I felt like Hivebusters was greenlit as a show piece of what the Series X can do and that's why it came out when it did. It's probably far and away the best looking game you can play on either the PS5 or Series X at the moment. I took longer than the average 3 hours to finish it because I couldn't stop looking at everything. The tropical setting really helped.

Hmmm so do I go with base game and grab the on sale Season Pass for more points back or is the smart move just the $60 Ultimate Edition? I assume I'd lose out on some kind of cosmetics?

I feel silly that I didn't know this, but it's really easy to sync your Xbox Series X controller to your phone for cloud gaming. Some reason I thought you had to buy the $99 Razer Kishi to play through the cloud on your mobile. To be fair, I was in a complete daze the last 6 month through surgery and radiation. There have been a couple articles today that show how easy it is to swap between having your controller synced to your Xbox and your phone with a double tap of the button.

• First, you have to pair your Xbox Series X controller with your phone or PC. Activate sync mode on your controller by pressing and holding the sync button on the back, which is just above the USB-C port. After a couple seconds, the Xbox logo on the controller will flash rapidly.
• Then, on the device you’re trying to sync the controller with, look for the controller in the Bluetooth settings menu. Select the controller to pair it.
• Once the controller is connected to your new device, have fun playing some games!
• To use your controller with your Xbox Series X again, double-tap the sync button. The Xbox logo will flash slowly, and then the controller should reconnect with your console.

I think most everyone learned a few things from that the other day, the double tap to resynch wasn't widely reported until then. I had 2 controllers one just for PC/Phone and one for the Series so I didn't have to mess around with switching it, this would have been nice info before I bought an extra. I found a group of three enemies close to the start of the game in town. Defeated them, loaded game, repeat. Deleted that shit posthaste upon quest completion.

I’ve gotten out of the started city and have moved to the new world. It still has jank even after I moved the sensitivity down. I’ve started to get used to it and I’m enjoying the story but now in this one city I’m getting freezes during dialogue with different characters. The jank I was getting okay with, this temporary freezing will ruin the game for me if it continues.

Update your firmware if you use an older controller, my x1 controller was doing some wonky stuff on the android os pre firmware update. And watch out for the kishi, the firmware for it is not updated so it still does the wonky stuff on android os. The kishi hardware if fantastic btw, but until they correct the fw issues, mine is just a paperweight.

When paired to your phone, you turn off the xb controller by holding the home button for 6 seconds...fyi

It wasn't randomly delisted but yes. The publisher and developer are in a legal battle so the game was delisted for a short while and then a little while ago got relisted. I played through it a couple months ago and it's definitely rough around the edges but the story is interesting and it has a charm that is worth the playthrough. As far as Lovecraft games go it is far superior to Call of Cthulhu.
