General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

When I tried to recover my brother's old account I was told in the chat that any accounts with over 5 years of inactivity are deleted. I don't know what that means, like is it truly gone, including purchases or saves in the cloud. The chat person would not elaborate. There is a recovery form you can try to fill out, but it requires you to know information and contact options for that account. In my brother's case he no longer had that email address from years back, so there was no way to get it back.
 
In order to get the 7% back buying something through Edge, do you have to search on the MS store or is the Xbox store ok? I didn’t realize they came up as different sites/listings depending on how you search and I’ve been buying on the Xbox store.

When I tried to recover my brother's old account I was told in the chat that any accounts with over 5 years of inactivity are deleted. I don't know what that means, like is it truly gone, including purchases or saves in the cloud. The chat person would not elaborate.

Not disputing what you were told, but... That seems hard to believe. There have got to be thousands of people who had a 360, switched to PS4, and now Microsoft wants them back for Series X/S. It wouldn't make sense to delete all those accounts... Microsoft wants all those people back in the Xbox ecosystem as seamlessly as possible.

That's what I thought too. I was actually doing it to try and get my brother his account back if he wanted to try to get a Series at some point. The chat guy was very blunt but wouldn't go beyond that 5 years is the cutoff. That's why I wondered about digital purchases. The idea that you can just lose them is not acceptable to me.

If this is wrong (and I hope that it is), someone correct me. I could have had a chat representative who didn't know, but when I sought assistance for the issue he refused to help beyond that statement.

I remember something coming up a few years back, but this is what I found. Actually says *two years* of not being used.

I also found an old Major Nelson post that said any GT that didn’t migrate from OGXB to 360 would be recycled. Not sure if either of these apply but figured it might help.
 
Even with Flight Simulator, The Ascent and Omno releasing this week, I keep going back to Death’s Door. It’s easily my GOTY so far and probably will be in my Top 10 all time. It’s just a perfect game in almost every way.

It’s also an absolute bargain even at the full $20 price for you cheap asses. Don’t sleep on this guys.

RIP my 608 day achievement streak on Xbox. Unlocked an achievement on 00:02 hours my time, thus ending the streak. Now I don't have to worry about popping a simple achievement to keep it going every day. I was hoping to get that thing out to 2 years, and then be okay with it ending. But this is also fine. 

Now let's see how long Ryuukishi keeps their streak going. Good luck.

This is why I set my time as Pacific time zone even though I live in the Eastern time zone. I am a late night player and it is just easier to have that 3 hour buffer each night. Sorry for your loss. You could try changing your time zone to see if it readjusts your streak. Not sure if that would work.

 
Just finished The Touryst before it leaves right about now. Was a very charming, fun little indie with a look I really liked.

While I appreciate it didn't take forever to finish, it's a shame how shallow it ended up being. It's got great ideas but it just doesn't go very far with any of them. Like there's a ton of these little fun minigames but each minigame just asks you to beat one particular score and then you can set a high score of your own and that's it. No different stages or difficulties or objectives, just one and done. Exceptions are the mining and the arcade bits, but even the miner thing didn't really shake it up as much as I'd hope.

Really hope the sequel hook at the end isn't just a gag, I think the dev could really do something with this foundation.

Anyway, definitely was worth playing for "free".

I had no idea accounts can be deleted due to inactivity. Does that mean you lose all of your digital purchases? That would suck.

Apoarently they won't "reclaim" your gamertag if you still have active subscriptions or unused credit on the account. I think I am going to buy an xbox gift card and add some credit to my account just in case I am in a coma for 2 years 8-[ .

As the service ages, I imagine like most online platforms created ~20 years ago, they have to also deal with not just people moving on / going inactive, but eventually people die and it probably doesn't make sense to keep all that dormant account data on their servers. Facebook has had to contend with this, since deleting accounts of the deceased has upset people who regard their profiles as a bit of a time capsule / memorial.

In other words: make sure you leave your email / password in your will so your kids and keep the 'cheevo light burning.

And so they can keep your digital library.
 
Also make sure you max out your subscription as they can't close out accounts with active subscriptions. That will give you a few years.

But yeah Microsoft and others love the digital future that's for sure.

I bought Deathsdoor as well. Once I'm done with sekiro I'm playing that next. Glad to see it's selling well.

I bought this to play with my preschooler (she like to watch games and help) but the esrb changed from E to T...any notes on what kind of content to expect?

Well, the main theme is death. While it’s also funny, it’s just a dark theme overall. Don’t recall any bad language or gore. It gets intense and pretty hard at times.

Facebook makes it pretty easy to turn a page into a memorial. You just need to show them proof and et voila. Excuse me, I need to go visit a FB page for the first time in a while.

US or worldwide codes you can redeem like normal. But for those from other countries like Argentina, you need to use a VPN to make you appear to be in that country. Then you redeem like normal.
 
The Ascent has been fun so far but at least on the X1X I am finding the initial loading take forever. Combine that with a few crashes and it makes getting into the game kind of a chore. I am going to assume the load times on the Series X/S is a lot better.

When I initially signed up on the site, I was set as Pacific. I don't remember when I switched to Eastern time, but one of my prior streaks was shortened because of it.

I Loaded the game on my Samsung SSD on my X1X and it was about 30 seconds for the initial load of starting a new game to the opening cinematic so I think it maybe just maybe HDD thing since I think it takes two minutes otherwise.

That's a good idea for the future. I know for a fact I popped some achievements right after midnight during my streak. If I could retroactively go to PST, it would destroy the streak in that manner. I'm actually okay with it ending. It wasn't that fun for me. Now I can go a night without.

Digital Foundry has a comparison video of the load times between all consoles. It does take close to two minutes to load into the game for me on the One X but once you're in it's all good. Loading after a death is near instant which is great because having to wait near 2 mintues after every death would make the game nearly unplayable lol.

I finished the game this morning so just going around grinding out the rest of the side missions. Overall a very enjoyable game.The game design and music is seriously second to none. Very hard game too in the beginning, almost dark souls-esque. Good luck to anyone trying to beat that damn Spider boss lol. Also experienced a few crashes and glitches. This game could definitely use a couple of patches and I am sure they will come as Neon Giant continue to improve this game. I am really curious to see if NG will continue to world build with this franchise or make a completely different game. There's definitely a lot of potential here.

 
Another FYI that I’m unsure if it’s been mentioned before: If you buy something on sale for one of the punch cards but buy it as a gift, it still counts. For instance, I bought Death’s Door for myself and also a friend, and I’m at $42/$50 for the Summer Games punch card ($19.99+tax for each).

As for loading times, can’t speak for the Ascent as I haven’t tried it yet, but Omno takes a good minute or so to load to the menu screen every time I boot it up. Playing it from the external hard drive on a Series S. Considering putting it on the internal just to see if there’s a difference. Once you’re in the game there’s virtually no loading so it’s not that big a deal, but the first time I played I thought it had frozen before even getting to the start screen.

I think the “why wait until November” part is along the same lines as the Xbox marketing all year which is that they technically will hit 20 years in November but why not celebrate all year long. I do agree a November Halo launch would make sense, and it’s probably the goal right now for the sake of both sales and the anniversary, but I wouldn’t take this as a “leak” per se. Just my two cents.

On the topic of loot based games, doing last few achievements pick up on Outriders on solo and holy crap the difficulty is night and day compared to playing it with friends. Like with friends just constantly go to 1/3 health against most of enemies, along with larger mobs and they're just ridiculously bullet spongey but single is no where that level of unnecessarily difficult

If you navigate to the bundle with Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 and the Necromancer DLC, you can select either piece for download.

Diablo 3 doesn't seem to be mentioned in this weekend's Free Play Days announcement, so this may be a flub on the part of the person who published the Diablo 2 bundle to the store.
