Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-05-16
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

Everything since day 1 from the FTC (and CMA) has been from the perspective that Sony is in last place and hanging on for survival.

I appreciate that more of Sony's strong-arm tactics as market leader are coming to light.

That's what I was afraid of. I kept hearing about how much people loved it and how it's a masterpiece but I haven't seen that since the intro. Did you just finish one play through or did you work on the multiple paths?

It may be something I just slowly make my way through while playing other games.
I did 1 play-through and then got a second ending shortly thereafter. Neither was the happy ending I expected. The game is clunky and I felt like they lifted the controls out a game from 2010.

No way in hell was I going to play to get all then different paths/perspectives, not funny enuf fo dat!

Let me be the lone dissenting voice in the current sea of negativity against Automata. Suppose it's not for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed it going in fairly blind. Maybe it's been built up too much and people's expectations are too high.

Spoiler tagging the multiple playthroughs and endings thing as well since I think this point gets overblown. Still trying to be vague enough about it but only read if you don't care to be spoiled in some way.

You do kinda play through what you understand to be the "whole" game (up to the point where the game first ends) twice, but it has deviations. You play a different character, the combat isn't exactly the same, and the character's path branches off from where the original character was for certain portions. As such, more of the story is revealed from this different perspective.

After the game eventually "ends" again at around the same point, there's a whole new playthrough unlocked, but this is all brand new and continues from where the previous two endings occurred.

If you wind up not playing this bit, you essentially miss the second half of the game, the climax, and the real ending(s). It's like giving up on the Marvel Cinematic Universe after watching Infinity War and never making it to Endgame.

I think this is why the multiple playthrough bit is intimidating, confusing, or frustrating to some. The impression is "Didn't I just do all of this? Why do I have to play the same thing again?" when it's more complicated than that, but it's hard to explain without completely spoiling the game.

Also, when people say the game has 26 endings, keep in mind most of them are accidental deaths and just a joke. The game has 5 "real" endings, with the first two being after the first two playthroughs, the third and fourth after an endgame decision that can go one way or the other, and then a final one unlocked after doing both of those that is the actual ending.

Saying that it's 5 full playthroughs of the game from the very beginning to the very end is extremely inaccurate. It's one playthrough, a shortened alternate second playthrough, and a conclusion that you just have to replay the very very end of twice followed by the real end.

Nier: Replicant, on the other hand...

My Series finally got the new dashboard update overnight. Going to take a bit of getting used to but I like it so far. Need to find a better background than the one I’m using to show off the extra space dedicated to it.

Like the way it’s organized too. Even having the latest GamePass additions front and center is nice.

I honestly thought there must be another game called Automata that you were talking about people being negative about. Nier Automata is amazing. Then I thought maybe you meant Replicant which is awful. Who are these people being negative about Nier Automata and have they actually played the game before being that way? I am guessing they did not play it.

PSA - today is the last day that you can get 15% off $25 Xbox Live gift cards at Dollar General.  In-store only.

Pro-tip: I bought two $25 cards this morning, and I had to do two transactions to make the discount come off of both cards.

Waiting for the guy who mentions Costco every time that I post a Dollar General deal to arbitrarily mention Costco in 3, 2, 1... :oldman:

Costco membership is stupidly expensive. $60 at the cheapest and online the fee is 5% for non members. If you're spending $1200/year then you break even. Little wonder that poster is eager for Costco deals -- gotta hit that $1200!

YMMV

Stolen from SlickDeals, but Amazon currently has a promotion where if you spend 0.01 (or more) of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points you can get up to $60 off $120. I just preordered Pikmin 4 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder for $65 total with tax.

Deal Instructions:

  1. Click here to link your Chase Ultimate Rewards account to your Amazon account if they are not already linked
    • Note, you often have to wait 24 to 48 hours after linking your rewards account before you can "activate" the offer. Check the link in the next step after a few days for eligibility.
  2. Visit the promotion page and click the yellow "Activate now" button to activate the promotion on your Amazon account.
    • Note that you will NOT receive the promotion unless you click on the yellow "Activate now" button.
  3. Add eligible products sold and shipped by Amazon.com to your shopping cart
  4. Proceed to checkout & select your Chase Card as your payment method
  5. Select the amount of Ultimate Rewards Points you would like to use for the purchase (must use at least 1 point or $.01)
    • Note there may be a minimum point spend of 100 ($.80) for some users
  6. Up to 50% Off discount (max $60 Discount) will be applied to qualifying items at checkout

I just spent $500 on a PS5 to play Final Fantasy. So it's pretty funny to me to see people raging over needing an Xbox to play Indiana Jones or Starfield. That's the way of the world, if you want to play the game, buy the console. Or don't.
Thank you I always find it weird when Sony does exclusivity you here fuck Sony. But Microsoft also does it and Nintendo as well but I didn’t hear people raging when Microsoft locked up dead or alive 3 and 4 to Xbox consoles where they still remain today. I did see people upset that Nintendo locked up Bayonetta but how else would you be able to play the sequels? None of these companies are saints they are all after the same thing consumer dollars.

Was actually able today to do some online stuff/progress towards some in FH2...still won't be able to finish it off lol

(Including being able to download tuning set ups for the Super Meet Boy achievement..even though I already have that one)

Wait, are you tying morality to exclusive rights?

Was surprised the online related menus were available in FH2 today when I fired up the game, including the daily payout and a bunch of rivals. Still can't get into an online road trip, though.

Anyone else find it odd that we get the announcement of the Metal Gear collection and a revolt by Russian mercenaries in the same week?

Aye, tried the Road trips as well. Got queued, but everytime you tried to join the servers were not allocated lol.

Been that way for a while. IIRC, they wouldn't even find a session for a while. Had a little hope when they started finding a session but then got the allocation failure, thought they might've actually been getting them going again.

If this Blizzard deal does go through Sony really needs to tread carefully going forward with any 3rd party deals they make. They are fuck ing around and finding out. Microsoft will keep buying any company or developer that they deem essential to Xbox succeeding if they catch wind of Sony trying to pay for exclusivity.

i don't know why, Microsoft buying a developer pretty much guarantees they will be closed or reduced to a shell of their former self within 5 years. it's not like any of their past acquisitions are pumping out AAA games.

Microsoft has been mostly hands off post-acquisitions though so if any dev becomes a shell of their former self, it wasn't because of Microsoft. Redfall lost a lot of people because people didn't want to work on it and they were hoping Microsoft would come in to axe it but they didn't. If anything, Microsoft needs to come in to manage the shit out of these companies and take out the existing garbage management. :whistle2:

I am very curious what happens if Sony does buy Square Enix. Would've been nice for Microsoft to pick up Crystal Dynamics and Eidos from them but ah well... Embracer gonna embrace~

With all of the indie games that are on sale this week, I decided not to wait until Monday night to start making my digital purchases.

I've already bought 8 games since this morning.  Most of them were $1.99.  The most expensive game was Harvest Moon Light of Hope Complete Edition for $10.49.  That said, it's a pretty good sale.

But when purchasing through Microsoft Cashback, I've encountered the problem before where it stops you from making purchases if you try to buy too many games in a short span of time.  Usually, it times out after the sixth purchase.  I guess they're trying to combat fraudulent purchases, but it's stupid.

I played it (about 20hrs), I don't think I got as far as Z-Saber says where you get to play 'the second half' of the game where 'new stuff happens'. It just isn't that fun. The controls are wack. I was done after 'finishing' the first ending.

It's kinda the same problem I had with Resident Evil 2 (remake). I don't really wanna go back through as Claire after doing a play-through as Leon. Maybe some people dig that, great, I would rather more content as just Leon than play through a fairly similar rehash of previous content.

I feel like Square got rid of all their good IPs aside from FF and Nier. Crazy to think they sold Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Sleeping Dogs, Legacy of Kain, Thief and Gex for peanuts to Embracer. And they dumped IOI awhile back giving up the Hitman IP.

Crap. I forgot about this. I drove right by one today too.

The funniest thing to me is Phil saying it "hasn't been decided" about Elder Scrolls 6 not being on Playstation. if Sony is going to prevent FF16 and FF7R from coming to Xbox purely out of spite, there's no fucking way Elder Scrolls 6 is released for Sony.

Especially if they refuse to provide dev kits like the Minecraft situation.

Elder Scrolls 6 news wise from that I feel more pissed that Behesda decided to release a teaser for a game five years ago that after Friday's testimony that it was revealed it wouldn't be ready for...AT LEAST ANOTHER FIVE YEARS??? Jesus why even announce it in the first place? And it's been so long that some dumb gaming Twitter pages treated like Phil revealed Elder Scrolls 6 was in development.

I 100% forgot they put out an actual teaser trailer for it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkFdqqyI8y4

I remember Todd Howard saying it wouldn't come out until at least a few years after Starfield. He also confirmed in 2022 it was in pre-production, meaning it won't even start full development until Starfield ships. Seeing an announcement from 2018 with all the Starfield delays and Phil's testimony, though, sure is dumb. Especially when you consider that Fallout 4 wasn't announced until it was about six months from release - the E3 presentation ended with "oh btw it launches in November."

I'm assuming it was just a move for the shareholders since the 2018 Starfield teaser was a new IP. Modern game development is stupid.

You can add an extra member so you can split it $30 each. They also offer a very good credit card that gives you 4% cash back on gas. That alone right there makes $30 definitely worth it especially with some of the really good exclusive food they have there along with buying $100 Xbox eShop or PSN card for 80 bucks.

Don’t you have to have the same address to get a second card on the account? Or is that wrong/easily avoidable

People like to ignore certain aspects of history
And now it just pisses me off when it’s mentioned as justification for the tons of games that PlayStation has made exclusive ever since.

“But Microsoft did it first!” Wah wah wah…Cry me a river

Except “timed” exclusive now means never gonna be on Xbox.

I bought into the Nier Automata hype but I was also underwhelmed. I set the difficulty to Easy maybe a third of the way through the first run because I just wanted to get through the story and see what the buzz was about. Considering the story is about robots, I thought it was going to share similar themes with Westworld
(Robots "awakening" and an endless cycle of suffering)

I thought gameplay and combat variety was quite interesting. I appreciate the different gameplay styles based on how they lock the camera but I felt it was a bit too simple and it was different just for the sake of being different (weirdness). I'm not a fan of schmups so those sections didn't particularly resonate with me. I THINK I know what they were trying to get at (what advantages do you have in a certain perspective vs free roam camera) though I could really only think of one off the top of my head (top down and side views allow you to gauge the distance between your weapons' reach and enemy (projectiles) better but the constrained direction also mean it's easier to hit something and easier/harder to evade. Otherwise, brain didn't quite register any additional depth beyond "here are the constrained movements/cameras, now deal with it"

I would probably never play it again. I definitely think everyone hyping the game skewed my enjoyment of the game just because of expectations that weren't met. Better to just go into things blind and be pleasantly surprised.

The ES6 teaser was basically just to confirm they were working on it (I guess anyone could've figured that out regardless of the teaser) but also a way to attract new/more talent (if they had a job listing with "unannounced project", I'd rather know it was ES6 rather than Fallout Shelter 2)

As far as keeping ES6 exclusive, I'm not entirely sure. I want to see what they do with other Bethesda IPs that came out on other platforms. Although ES is closely associated with Xbox, I think it could be a Minecraft/CoD situation where the IP already exists on non-Xbox platforms so they want to keep supporting the fanbase on all platforms though I think could be more relevant for multiplayer titles. New IPs like Starfield are basically Xbox exclusive. Since Bethesda is already optimizing the Starfield/Creation Engine for Xbox, it might mean more work to put it on Playstation which I don't think they'd want to do at this time. Again, I want to see how Xbox handles exclusivity for other IPs existing on other platforms.

The 5% surcharge for non-members does not equate to meaning that members just save 5% over retail like target red card. Costco has their own pricing negotiations with suppliers that provide deeper discounts than typical just FYI

That game is 7 years away anyways. No idea why they announced it.

Nier Automata was for me, a boring hodgepodge of better games. I gave it 12 or 14 hours. Big ole bag of meh

I've been sharing an account with a friend that lives an hour away for like 5 years now. Never had any issues. The card is in his name and he just renews every year.

If you sign up for the executive membership ($120 a year) you earn 2% cash back on your annual purchases which can easily pay for the membership plus make you some extra money too if you shop there often. One year I got back over $300 for my annual purchases. The limit is $1000 cashback reward, but I have never hit that threshold.

And now it just pisses me off when it’s mentioned as justification for the tons of games that PlayStation has made exclusive ever since.

“But Microsoft did it first!” Wah wah wah…Cry me a river

Except now “timed” exclusive now means never gonna be on Xbox.
Bingo. I only bring it up to state that Microsoft has tried similar failings, they aren't perfect and screw up. What Sony has done for a long time has been to protect their healthy market share by any means necessary

might want to clarify xbox has tried similar failings, because if we are comparing microsoft anti competitive behavior versus sony, sony looks like an amateur. the only reason this acquisition is even being fought is because of past microsoft behavior and their current stranglehold on cloud services not even related to gaming.

Yikes. More reason to not bother buy it and just play on Game Pass.
