• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.

  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

On TA's game list, you can set Platforms to "Xbox 360 (no back compat)" (or Other to "Not Backwards Compatible"), Availability to "Listed only", Game Type to "Games only" and Dist type to "Digital only" to get an idea of where to start. Looks like there's 216 with those filters.

I wonder if those specifically are because of the minor success the Series S has had in Japan. I haven't noticed any price raises myself. The only laughable thing is the old CoDs, but they never dropped in price.

I boot up my 360 once in a while to play Skylanders Giants with my son. Its really rough and so slow but there are still games on it I want to play so I put up with it. I did a lot of maintenance on it over the winter to remove any digital backwards compatible games from the system and that seemed to speed up the boot process. I think I basically have all the games I want from the 360 generation but I'm going to double check some lists.

I played Renegade Ops earlier this year for the first time and that game is fantastic except for the final stage, boo!
A shame it is not backwards compatible. Next game in the 360 backlog I'm going to play on it will be the Incredible Hulk or Ninja Blade.

I bought Joust on 7/31 from microsoft.com and I have the option to "Download Again" on my Xbox 360.

Yeah, it works now after they fixed it. But that seems like something that could get overlooked once the 360 store shuts down. Probably won't impact anyone here because we'll try to get anything we might want before that happens, but it could impact someone.

There's a small selection of stuff listed in the TA sales post occasionally. Right now there are like a dozen games in the Deals with Gold section and only two of them are not BC - Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Full Game - Final Exam.

For all the OS updates the 360 got, it's honestly shocking that this never got improved or fixed. PS3 is the same way, just a long, slow-to-load list that was never designed for more than seven purchases.

I was trying to download Forza Horizon or my dad (I hooked up my 360 while he's recovering from a surgery) and the product page doesn't say I own it, but it's in my download history and can be played that way. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

As far as I'm aware the only mainstream example of this is PT, and online only games whose servers get killed. Stadia I guess, but they refunded purchases. All of the major marketplace closures have allowed you to continue redownloading purchases so far.

Maybe something small like Ouya I guess.

I was mostly just correcting what was said, I have no issue with emulation. The only games I generally consider somewhat sketch are emulating current generation games. If I had a powerful enough PC to do so I'd still be buying the game to support the devs in this case. I buy a good chunk of the retro collections and decent remasters.

Retro prices have become prohibitively expensive and using original hardware becomes more tedious over time. If these companies want to re-release a game I want I'll support, if not then I'll go back to the emulators or flashcarts as needed. Not to mention things that don't really "exist" through official channels, games with fan translations, ROM hacks, homebrew, and even unreleased games. The fact that we can experience stuff like StarCraft Ghost or Dinosaur Planet is amazing, and just wouldn't be feasible without emulation.

If there is one game that deserves remake/remaster it's the Chronicles of Riddick franchise. When developers are remastering 3 year old games instead of bringing back old classics, they've lost the plot.

Yes, that would be my thought too, I also wonder if any other studio purchases will be announced after the Activision deal closes, seems like there might be some other small ones waiting for that deal to finalize.

If they can get Goldeneye on Game Pass after a decade of rights issues, I bet they could get all the Marvel games Activision published on there. I assume the fact that Goldeneye isn't being sold separately is part of how the rights got worked out and it would be cool as hell if that happened for Ultimate Alliance, Wolverine, and a few others.

For all the OS updates the 360 got, it's honestly shocking that this never got improved or fixed. PS3 is the same way, just a long, slow-to-load list that was never designed for more than seven purchases.

I was trying to download Forza Horizon or my dad (I hooked up my 360 while he's recovering from a surgery) and the product page doesn't say I own it, but it's in my download history and can be played that way. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

This storefront closing would be a lot easier if the 360 still had a functioning way to view your purchases.

I've heard whispers on the internet about a discless Series X which would presumably cost less than the current model. I'm definitely interested in that, but I don't know how MS could justify a 1TB Series S and a discless Series X being so close in price to each other.

In the future they could easily D/C the white series S. Drop the black one to $300. And release
a digital X for $400 if they wanted. Price for storage comes down over time

Not to further exacerbate, but when I went to browse DLC on my 360 it only showed DLC from Rock Band and only 100 of them. I hope there's a better way to see all game DLC that's better than that.

First time I’ve noticed a huge difference in speed between two different game downloads. Trying to download the Shadow Gambit trial after the incredible reviews it’s gotten and it’s like 7 MB/s. Downloading Texas Chain Saw Massacre and it gets 400 MB/s.

Tried cancelling and redownloading SG with the same result. Guess they must be on different servers or something.
