It's not a part of this sale, so the OP needs to update his list.

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Promotion/Special-Sales
yeah, I didn't update it because it's part of the XBLA thread now. it'd just be redundant. before it was in the XBLA thread main post, it was more important. but I went ahead and edited it.

I played the demo for Dark Void and it seems interesting. Anyone own it? I read the reviews and most of them pan it, but most of them pan it because it's not worth $60. But the question is, is it worth it for $5?
No kidding? It's a wonder nobody has mentioned this yet...
well buying the game takes up shelf space

was that mentioned?

Very few things are a pass at $5. I love the Rocketeer and the neat aesthetic of DV so I picked it up.

Hijacking a UFO mid-air? Neat.
The 360 uses IBM Power chips. The Cell chip was a completely different design, unrelated to Power architecture. It was just partly developed along with IBM, Sony, and Toshiba. Power is IBM only. Totally and utterly different.
Both are Power PC. The Cell just has 8 cores vs the 360's 3 for the same processor.

please stop this 360 CPU versus PS3 CPU. if would be more appropriate if the information was correct but everyone is spewing out fake information.

If you have to oversimplify things, both have the PPE core as the main CPU. The Cell has 1 PPE core with 2 threads whereas the 360 CPU has 3 PPE cores with 2 threads (making 6 threads). In addition to the 1 PPE, the PS3 also has 7 SPE which assist in tasks.

The PPE is a full CPU with full access to memory and a fuller feature set needed for CPU work. The PPE in the PS3 and the 360 are different but came from similar origins. The PPE has its lineage in the PowerPC line because IBM had a major hand in the design but the PPE is a different design than any existing PPC.

The SPEs are not true CPUs and need the PPE to manage them. The SPEs do not have features of a conventional CPU like cache. The SPEs are also single-threaded. The SPEs are great for what they do which is vector math. Remember that the Cell's design was to be a multimedia monster. For example, to drive multiple displays such as playing a BluRay movie on one monitor and a MPEG2 display on another screen. Amazing for what it does but not necessarily great for gaming.

And of course, the CPU is only 1/3 of the equation. You also need a GPU and memory. Originally, Sony thought the Cell would be powerful enough to do everything including graphics. But when they realized that it wasn't enough, they added the Nvidia GPU relatively late. And they gimped the PS3 with not enough memory.

But who cares? Both the 360 and PS3 are ancient at this point and both are about the same power. Even David Shippy, the chief architect of the Cell and Xenon processors say when all is said and done, both systems are about equal.

These off-topic discussions should stop ASAP since the mods have already cleaned most of it out of it this thread earlier this week.

Dark Void is easily worth $5. I started it yesterday and I actually really enjoy it. If it had come out last gen it would've been a hit.
anyone know which game i should download. Rockstar Table Tennis or Perfect Dark Zero? which game is harder to find in the stores?
niether. Both are easy as hell to find at any GS. Save your points to see what's coming up for the next 2 dotw

It's great fun the first time.

Extremely repetitive and boring by the third.
It's great fun the first time.

for 5 dollars if something is extremely fun even just once and lasts the 5-10 hours i suspect story mode is. i cannot complain

My son liked the demos of both GRAW and Blazing Angles, so I bought those. I'll have to think about some others tonight.

So instead of buying PoP:FS to trade in my physical copy I decided to just playthrough it now. It is a really fun game. The controls are sometimes wonky and the combat fairly bland buy the voice acting is good and the story seems interesting enough. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes hack and slash type games. If you are not a fan of platforming do not buy it though since it makes up at least half the game if not more. The platforming for the most part is easy enough with only a few frustrating areas.
wait til you all get to the randomly difficult waterfalls part on PoP:FS..... not cool.
HA! I just got through that part...I was cursing quite a bit. It is such an increase in platforming difficulty. Of well, another game beat, another game to trade :D

I mean hijacking a UFO. Takes about a minute, not 5-10 hours (although it will start to feel like it ;)).
HA! I just got through that part...I was cursing quite a bit. It is such an increase in platforming difficulty. Of well, another game beat, another game to trade :D
It took me like 2 hours to beat, I had to give up on a few different days and on like the third day of trying it something just clicked and I breezed through it. But yeah it's just because nothing is really difficult before that point, so it takes a bit to get the hang of it. As much as I hated that part and can remember swearing and wanting to throw my controller off a wall (I usually manage to refrain myself from actually breaking things during gamer rage), I managed to just shut it off when I was super frustrated. BUT, there's something about beating these challenging/difficult parts in games, it's extremely rewarding afterwards, so I some what appreciate when they throw them into games.

For anyone who has picked it up, how's Tornado Outbreak? I love katamari, is this game fun in a similar way? Good replay of value or monotonous?

It doesn't really have the same kind of replay value as a Katamari. I've only played the first two levels, but there are a limited amount of items and a size cap that you can reach in an area before you're moved to the next area to start the process over again. It's similar in concept, but they don't really seem to nail the scope/freedom that Katamari games have. I'm enjoying it despite that, but they're definitely doing their own thing.

Wait, this is the first I've heard that it is anything like Katamari. I might have to check it out.

Really? It's the first thing anybody says, or at least should say, about it. You're a little tornado dude that sucks up stuff to get bigger and bigger until you can take down the ultimate building/thing to finish that area.
Really? It's the first thing anybody says, or at least should say, about it. You're a little tornado dude that sucks up stuff to get bigger and bigger until you can take down the ultimate building/thing to finish that area.
Well, I guess I've never heard anything about it. I just assumed it was a zombie/FPS type game like most other things I don't care about ;). I've been reading a lot of the game discussion here and must have missed it till now of course. I might get that one for myself.

Looking at Metacritic it has a pretty wide range of reviews, especially for having so few. There are 12 reviews that range from 38 to 81 . I guess I'll read a few. Of course a $5 price tag probably eliminates some of the problems mentioned in some of those reviews. But if you like it Frisky I'll probably just get it no matter what.

For example, from the IGN review (the highest one of the lot):
The game is forty dollars on PS3, 360 and Wii (which might be ten dollars too much), but it's still worth the money.

alright, the farther I get into Conan, the more I love it! now that I can actually do some cool moves, it's more fun. totally worth $4!

and the counters are pretty cool with the 300-esque style slow-mo.

but yeah, I'm amazed at the amount of nudity in this game. and some of the dialogue by these imprisoned females can only be written by sex-starved males... :p

also ended up picking up Dark Void which intrigued me from the demo. So the game I thought I'd least debate about is the game I haven't pick up yet (Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands). If it was Prince of Persia, I think I would've already bought it. I know PoP: TFS is more faithful to the older PoP games but I liked the unique look of the PoP version.

so i only have to spend $2 so which one should i get? RStar Table Tennis or PDZ? i beat conan back in 08 when it came out, it was a good game btw, wish they would've made a better one now

I was going to buy Perfect Dark Zero from this sale, but then saw it at gamestop for $1.99

http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/games/perfect-dark-zero-used/41998

I'll get the disc version..cheaper and saves up hard drive space. Got Kameo. Still debating on Dark Void don't like the controls much. How's Virta Tennis 2009? On the fence about the game, looks like it's worth the $5 but doesn't have a demo. Was going to get Alone In The Dark and Bomberman, but kept reading bad reviews about both of them. Blazing angels I didn't like the controls, then again i've never been into those flight sim type of games.

def get Dark Void its a fun cover shooter with some cool sci fi ideas in it. Virtua Tennis 2009 is worth $5 cause in the stores its more money and plus it has Djokovic, Murray, Nadal, Federer, etc. Its fun espcially if u love tennis and have some buds to play with. Alone In the Dark is also not bad, its kinda a love/hate relationship but there are some cool moments in the game but idk, if u love survivall horror then go for it, it plays like a tv show similar to Alan Wake but of course not even on the same level as Alan but its still not bad for only $5.

It case it has not been mentioned before, Tornado Outbreak is from Loose Canon Studios, made up of vets from Sucker Punch who worked on Sly Cooper, in Seattle. As a result, the game is very fun and polished, and in my opinion, a lot better than the Katamari games it loosely models itself on.

This is a MUST BUY at $5 guys. Pretty easy achievements too.

Thanks for that, snakemaster. I'll get dark void and try it out for a bit, hopefully others around me will play it too and I will definitely get VT 2009 for the price. Prince of persia the forgotten sands, anyone get this from the current sale and if so, how is it? Alone in the dark...hm don't know if it's worth getting.

This can't possibly be true but I'll get the game and give it a shot ;). (FYI, the Katamari games are some of my favorites this and last generation - got all the achievements and trophies on the 360 and PS3 versions which meant 100's of hours played).
most of these games are cheaper at gamestop, plus you save hard drive space
Yeah but you don't have to drive to Gamestop, where you try to find a good copy with a case and instruction manual, deal with the employees trying to get you to pre-order something, deal with the parents and the brats, and deal with that who sharted smell that some Gamestops have. I'll spend a couple of extra bucks to avoid that.

lol i know what u mean by that sharted smell lol. too many lil kids running around and crying. ugh i cant stand that.

^ I'm heading to GS this evening to do some trades and bringing 2 of my kids with me. See you there! ;).

-------------------

I don't get the "save hard drive space" argument since every game I'm going to play for more than an hour I am going to disc install anyway.

Plus the best thing I ever did (in terms of switching to digital) was get my son the digital version of Halo Reach so he isn't switching discs all the time. Of course that came with my new 360 so it wasn't like I went out of my way to get it.

In terms of other games from this sale, I dug around a bit and found I had most of the others already. For example, I just found a sealed copy of PD0 on a shelf in my closet. I have no idea where or when I got that - such is the life of a CAG ;).

Mostly for my own purposes (to see if there's anything else I want), here's a summary:

Alone in the Dark - Have a sealed copy I've been trying to sell for ages since I'll never play it. This sale makes that even harder ;).
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WW II - Purchased as part of this sale (my son is already stuck on a mission and asking me to help him )
Bolt - I can't find this but I thought I had a copy on the PS3. I might have just rented it though. So I might still grab this one.
Bomberman Act: Zero - 34 average on Metacritic - not interested...
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - Own it on the PS3
Conan - I'm still thinking about this one but I really don't ever see myself playing it and from the comments above I don't think I want my 12 year-old son playing it either ;).
Dark Void - Own it on the PS3
FaceBreaker - Not interested
Kameo - Own it
Meet the Robinsons - Own it
Open Season - Own it (another one I was trying to sell when cleaning out some old games - stuck with it now I guess)
Perfect Dark Zero - Apparently I own a sealed copy
Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands - Own it on PS3
Rockstar Table Tennis - Yeah, I bought this on all the hype from CAG (Shipwreck and Wombat were still saying how great this was on a recent CAGcast) when Best Buy had it for $15 or something a few years ago. I really did not like this game and I found it frustratingly difficult and carpal-tunnel inducing.
SEGA Superstars Tennis - Geez, I think I have 3 or 4 of those SST/Arcade 2-packs since I bought them from GS when I needed to buy a cheap used game to qualify for some trade-in deal. I should try playing this some day.
Surf’s Up - Own it
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter - Purchased as part of this sale
Tornado Outbreak - Will be buying as soon as I can kick my son off the 360
Virtua Tennis 2009 - Thnking about it
Viva Pinata Party Animals - Ugh, owned this since it released. I guess it is a decent buy for $5 (wish I had only paid that much for it that's for sure)

This made me laugh. Out of 320gb that I have, only 24gb remain. I am just going to save some Microsoft Points and buy the retail games instead of saving .50 cents or whatever price difference some of these games are.

The major issue I have is that the levels aren't sandboxes like in Katamari. They're linear with a couple of smaller areas strung together as a level. For $5, it's a pretty good game, but it's a shame that it's not better.

Thanks Frisky. I'll pick up Tornado Outbreak but keep the expectations low.

One of the knocks in a review I read was that it was a fairly short game too (like 5 hours to beat). I'm actually OK with that and am more likely to play it. I'm deep into Xenoblade Chronicles but apparently I still have like 100 hours left to go on that. I could use a nice short game to break that up a bit ;).

I don't know why, but I couldn't resist this deal. I bought 8 games so far, thinking about getting another 2. $5 games are all too tempting.

:applause:

I am a diehard Katamari fan, but I wouldn't even think to attempt all the achievements/trophies on the Katamari games. Katamari Forever has some ridiculous trophies.

Picked up Prince of Persia and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected. Will most likely grab Conan and Virtua Tennis as well

Metacritic scores aren't everything, specially for a game like Bomberman Act: Zero. Is just classic multiplayer bomberman, with the ORIGINAL graphic style they intended for it (which was obviously not possible back in the day). If you like Bomberman, is a good purchase at the current price.

no. Act Zero is utter garbage, especially to Bomberman fans. Bomberman is one of my favorite franchises. I own like 10plus Bomberman games...and this one is nothing like them
Hell Id rather play Pocket Bomberman then the utter crap that Act Zero is.

How can anyone possibly defend Gamestop.

If you read your Xbox manual it says to be careful of using scratched discs. Scratches and smudges reduce the life of your lens. I've brought home new games from GS that had scratches on them.
