Xbox Live Compensation - Undertow Was Free 1/23-1/27
From the description, 'Undertow redefines aquatic based shooters' hmm is that a common genre?
There's one for PS One that I own, but I can't recall the name of it right now. I remember there is a big orange pirate sub that shoots different types of cannon balls. And a big blue sub with shark jaws on the front.

I'll try calling then, Major and gamerscoreblog just said to call, didn't say when. I called today and they said no dice; there was no other option than undertow.

That's very considerate of them.

Try again, Microsoft.
Well, there was AquaNox, and the benchmarking tool Aquamark. Yeah, that's about it. :p
Don't forget about the super awesome puzzle game Aqua Aqua. No seriously, it was a fun game, although very short. Well worth the $5 I paid for it many years ago.

2d Arcade/PS/Saturn Underwater shooter:
In the Hunt

3d PS1 game (played like Twisted Metal): Critical Depth

Oh, and to actually be on Topic... I think Undertow is a great choice. 16 player multiplayer, and it's not something that ended up rather lacking like Battleship Galactica / Wing Commander.

And it has a decent single player campaign. It's a full featured, "Best of what XBLA has to offer" game. I woulda liked Omega Five or Lumines, but I think Undertow has the most overall appeal.

I just wonder if this will interfere with Next weeks arcade release.

I don't have Undertow, and it got good reviews, so I'm happy with this.

I hope MS does something for everybody who already purchased it, though.
I could care less if I DL it. It's just another slap in the face by MS, IMO.
It could have been worse. It could have actually been Ecco the Dolphin, or worse, Tetris Splash. ;)

Bloodwake?

Heh, was gonna buy this before, well in anticipation for it, but the demo disappointed me(I thought it was a bit slow). I'll take it for free though! :D

I might need to play on an HD TV though to actually see my character...
Ridiculous. Why not just give everyone 800 points?
Because then anyone could start infinite numbers of silver accounts to take advantage of MS.

Oh Microsoft, sorry I forgot to pay my Xbox Gold renewal, how about a nice fruit cake from my dead grandma instead?
Because then anyone could start infinite numbers of silver accounts to take advantage of MS.
How do you figure? They could easily email 800 point codes to those who were Gold subscribers during the outage.
Hm. Well, free's free.
yep. I guess I'm glad it's not frogger.

Hmmm a pre chosen game available for 5 days doesnt seem like compensation to me. But I guess they didn't have to do anything really. I can only imagine how pissed the people who already have Undertow are going to be.

EDIT: Oh I guess you can contact support and get 800 points if you already have it. I wonder if they let people contact support and get 800 points if they don't want it...
How do you figure? They could easily email 800 point codes to those who were Gold subscribers during the outage.
Well, they can't do that because they have to compensate silver members, and many people have multiple silver accounts. I know that I have at least 5 accounts that would be eligible for those 800 MS points if they compensated gold and silver members who were signed up during the outage.
So I guess people whose 360's are getting repaired, like me, get screwed twice cause of the 5 day limit.
Take your HDD to a friends house with a 360 and download it with their console. Easy solution.

Sounds good to me. I got some points for Christmas that I have been holding onto. I didn't want to buy something and then have it end up being the freebie. This is one of the games I was planning on getting anyway. Free is even better.

Yeah, I haven't played the the game yet but how bad could it be? I sounds like a buch of lame ass Bitching in this thread.

It's not like they are giving away that shrek ball game.

A free game is a free game.

If I were one of the people severely affected by the outage I would be pissed that Undertow was the game chosen. That game is garbage.

But I hardly played during the holidays so... whatever.

That's the point of this buy-off, not many of us did.

Screw the free loaders. ;) The people who pay for the service deserve more compensation than those who don't.

What a crock of shit. From day one I said the dumbasses should have gave out Microsoft Points instead of picking a game half the people effected already bought. I knew they'd fuck this up. Hell, the morons could have just added a month onto everybody's Xbox Live subscription expiration and avoided this mess.

hey, at least it isn't hexic 2.

what else could they have really picked that would be a good choice? undertow has gotten some pretty good ratings around the board. no doubt that this game is totally worth it for free.

You can't please everyone.

I think a $10.00 dollar (800 point) game is very generous of Microsoft. I pay for the service, I had intermittent problems. But I don't think it was so bad that Microsoft had to give us something for it. Oh, because I couldn't level up on COD4? Big fucking deal.

Holy shit.

I just came back from picking up a card to buy this after playing the demo.

Just came online to check something before going to purchase it over Live.
That's the one! So freakin' fun.
Nice to see someone liked it ;) I was a programmer and gameplay designer on that game.

Undertow is an amazing game, it is like underwater battlefield. The single player is really fun, and the multiplayer will be awesome once everyone downloads this.

I purchased it day one and have beaten the single player 3 or 4 times already.

I called up microsoft today to inquire about what to do if you already own the game. They took my information and looked up my account to check to see if I did infact own it. Then they had to put me on hold to talk to a supervisor about what they will do. After holding for like 5-7 minutes they came back and told me that currently only undertow is planned to be given away even though I already own it. However he said that I should check back with them next week for further updates and to check xbox.com.

Hopefully they allow me to choose another game or get 800 points, because i want to download Omega Five

Same crap they pulled with the free Carcassone giveaway.

I went to xbox.com's forums where they have it posted and the guy said this:

Major Nelson has commented on his site:

"If you have already purchased the game, you can contact support and they will take care of you."

I did this and according to MS support as soon as the game is released for free we are entitled to a full refund of 800ms points.

So maybe he got a different answer out of them. They just announced it so I am assuming that everyone isn't 100 on it yet.

Then allow me to say "thank you" for one of my first great experiences on the PS One. I believe it was the first or second game I bought after I got my system. I still own both the system and the game, and might just dust it off soon, if only to play Critical Depth.:D
