Xbox Live Fall 2011 Dashboard Out Now - 12/06/11.

I wish I could say more (not some NDA blowoff, there isn't anything there), but I don't even see it in the beta. Says it's coming soon....

yeah not enough channels yet to cancel the DVR. You know channel providers are probably either fighting this nail and tooth or demanding xxxx amounts of of cold cash.
It's interesting for sure... but there's too few channels available to cancel my cable box at the moment.
Yeah, that's my train of thought.

Now, if this FIOS/Live thingamabob allowed "à la carte" cable at a discount, I'd give it a whirl.

I got a second xbox from the BF weekend deals (250 GB Holiday Bundle) and at first had the old dashboard. I have to say, that having to go back to that for a few days, the new dashboard really is a lot better. Last night the beta registration kicked in and I got the dashboard update. Nice. Plus now I can put my saves on the cloud and play on either Xbox. So nice!
You need two consoles w/ the new dash and cloud saving.
I have 2 consoles with the new dashboard. I've never been able to figure out this roaming profile.

How do you get it to work?

I didnt even know you could have your profile on more than one xbox, or do you have to recover your profile every time you want to switch xbox systems?

I've keep my profile on a memory card, or now USB stick, for a couple years. I just plug the memory stick into whatever console I want to use.

With the new dashboard, I've read we're able to keep our profiles in the cloud. I've never been able to figure it out.

Problem with that might be that as you need to have your profile on the 360 to access XBL under your profile, you wouldn't be able to do that if your profile wasn't on there.

Cyclical problem, perhaps.

I tried to put my profile on the cloud. The only option I was given was to put it back on my hard drive.

I have cloud storage enabled as I have an Arkham Asylum save up there.

I went to my sisters house to place some KS2 with her kids, brought my profile. I shared the beta with them a few weeks ago by downloading the console id app so they had the new dash. I brought my profile on a usb stick and when I signed in to my profile a pop up said "this profile is associated with another console, continue" or something like that. Everything was fine and when I went home I got a pop up "this profile was last used on another console"

So I guess you'll know if someone ever steals your account now.

You dont put the profile on the cloud. Instead of recovering you now have an option of 'downloading' your profile. Dowload it on both X360's and youre all set.

When you use cloud as a save file storage does it save only on cloud, not your hard drive too? Would suck if your internet went down and couldnt access your saves.

I think others have explained it pretty well. Enable cloud saving. Then, just go to the new console and recover your gamertag there. It will simply ask for your windows live ID and pass.

From what I can tell, it only goes to the cloud.

I've been using cloud storage for all my saves since Skyrim came out. I think what it does is cache the saves on your hard drive and it either uploads them in the background or it waits till you shut off your console to upload them; I've noticed since I have been doing cloud saving that the console sort of stays on for a while after you shut it off.

Whenever I load up Arkham City sometimes it freezes. My warranty i believe just ended, so it scares me everytime it happens.

Yeah my gears just froze again for the 3rd time today. Its always when im loading into a new game too. but this time i was able to see some of the match before it froze. The other times its been a black screen. When i got the black screen it wouldnt let me see the guide when pressing the guide button on my controller.

Thanks for posting the list. Not a very exciting lineup for me, looks like I won't be getting rid of my second box anytime soon.

I've had this happen. I've read it's an arkham city issue.

The only issue that I've had are constant disconnects that I didn't have before the first beta update.

Edit: To see if the cloud storage creates saves on the hard drive and cloud server, I tried out a game that I hadn't played before and set the storage device to cloud storage, which only appeared on the cloud and not locally. So if you want it on both, then just use your normal storage device like usual and upload that save to the cloud afterwards. MS needs to let you have ways to sync certain games' saves to the cloud server when there are new(er) saves to upload.

Not that anyone has expressed interest in my connection problems with the beta, but... Since the latest beta update, I actually seem to be able to stay online! I've only used it for a couple of hours so far, but I didn't randomly disconnect once. I can actually use my main console again, thank goodness.

From the Microsoft Connect page:

In preparation for launching the latest dashboard, we are processing updates to some of our existing applications which will require action by some users based on app availability. We want to make you aware of this as there will be some odd behavior that you will experience if you've previously downloaded one of these applications.

Impacted Applications:

Last.FM (US & UK)
FoxTel (AUS)
Sky (UK & IE)
Canal+ Play (FR)
Canal a la Demand (FR)
Foot+ (FR)
Monaco (FR)
USER IMPACT:

Users attempting to launch any of the applications in the list above from QuickPlay | My Apps | Xbox Guide will receive an error message, “Can't launch ”

USER ACTION:
1. Navigate to Settings --> Storage and Delete all instances of the application
2. Reboot Console – the app will no longer show up in QuickPlay, My Apps, or Guide
3. Navigate to the Apps Hub or Apps Marketplace and redownload the application
4. The latest version will now show up in QuickPlay, MyApps, or Guide

So if you have any of the above mentioned apps installed, you're gonna have to delete them and re-install when the final dashboard comes around.

It looks like the backgrounds for the avatars on your friends list are back, though I'm guessing that it doesn't look good because the lineup of avatars is tighter than it was on NXE.
I had no idea there was a dailymotion app. It's great for watching wrestling.
Too bad the quality of the videos on Dailymotion suck when made full screen on a PC so it is even worse on the Xbox now. I was trying to watch some Great Muta matches and had make it native resolution since a lot of the videos were so blocky. Hopefully Youtube makes an appearance too since at least they have some HD videos.

dang.....i was hoping to see netflix and hulu plus on that list. when the heck are they going to update those to integrate into the bing search results???

So if I have 2 xboxes I can download my profile to the second one and it also stays on the first one? If that's true that's pretty cool. I will give it a shot tonight.

I also really wish cloud storage of saved would keep a copy in the HDD too. That seems like a huge oversight. But if it doesn't, then why do games say "Syncing with Cloud Storage" or something like that when I start them up? That makes it sound like it is downloading copy if it's newer.

I have to wonder what the overall consensus will be for the new dashboard when it hits. I expect severe negativity in regards to the Marketplaces, Friends List and ads.
I signed up, was approved, and even redeemed the code for the new Dashboard, but I still have the old dashboard. Any help would be nice
You needed to run the beta app, not just download it. But it's moot now - the new dashboard releases tomorrow. You wouldn't get the beta for at least a day after running the app anyway.

so when the new dash hits can I disable the cloud stuff...I have no idea what the password is to my email and don't feel like losing my gamertag (if that is even possible).
Engadgets review shows a whole new netflix app that is bing searchable. Guess they were holding out on us.
Sweet.

The new dash makes the current netflix app seem clunky. I find voice to be the most useful when dealing with movies since I don't want to be holding a controller.
so when the new dash hits can I disable the cloud stuff...I have no idea what the password is to my email and don't feel like losing my gamertag (if that is even possible).
You can disable it. It's in the settings somewhere. You had to enable it initially via the same setting.

There's no need to disable cloud storage since it needs to be enabled to start using it. I don't think cloud storage would be any more likely to let anybody take your gamertag than the normal "hacking" method that most people are victim to.
What's hot about this update, besides the TV stuff?
Kinect interface with the entire dash. That includes voice commands to search the contents of your whole hard drive(potentially Netflix/Hulu queues in the future). Theoretically you can launch a game from your library from voice commands, but I have yet to be successful with it. MS & Kinect ≠ Apple & Siri. It will be amazing if Kinect can ever reach Siri's functionality, but so far, Kinect's speech stuff is pretty rudimentary by comparison.

Bing by typing actually works really well, and is something the 360 has needed for years. It searches your hard drive and the marketplace and populates the results as you type, which is cool, that way you don't have to type in a full title to find what you're looking for.
I have to wonder what the overall consensus will be for the new dashboard when it hits. I expect severe negativity in regards to the Marketplaces, Friends List and ads.
The giant center ad is my biggest complaint, and likely to be the most common one once the dash hits for everyone else. HOWEVER, like I said before, having your cursor default to the "launch game disc" square instead of a Spotlight ad/channel like before almost makes up for it, but that's a tiny thing that will be overlooked by most people.

What's the problem with the Marketplace? I haven't had any issues with it, plus Bing basically renders browsing the Marketplace pointless if you know what you're looking for anyway.

Friends List? - again, what's the beef? The lack of premium theme integration? That falls into the 'meh' and 'who cares?' category. I only use the "guide button" pop-up to check in/party up with friends anyway. The friends' channel, & seeing their avatar dance a jig is useless to me.

I'd guess that he's talking about the continued lack of a cap increase for the friends list when they've shut down the one thing that was holding it back (OG Xbox Live).

Does beacons give away if you are online, but have you status set as offline? I have noticed that it says different things when I log into a game and one of my friends has a beacon turned on. Sometimes it says that the friend wants people to play a game and other times it says that they play the game. In both cases they have appeared offline.

My guess is that there is a tiny glitch that is showing that they are truly online.

I am so pumped for the update. BBC, 4oD, 5onDemand, and YouTube on my damn xbox. So awesome. If there was a CAG app then I could throw my PC out the window ;)

All I can say is go back to the old dashboard as I did (got a second Xbox) and you'll in short order be wanting the new Dashboard. For one thing all your categories are on display right at the top and you aren't left wondering if you're supposed to go up or down to get to, say, Marketplace, from where you are now. That alone had me screaming for the new Dashboard.

I'm wishing for the old (current) dash, wishing really hard that I'd get it back, I'd even give up connecting to Live forever to get it back again. Still hating the new dash with a passion. It's clunky as hell, takes a lot longer to navigate, the marketplace is a lot harder to navigate, and just can't stand the look of it now. Haven't used my xbox in over a week because I just can't stand the new dash.

I've got no use whatsoever for the bing search feature. I don't keep anything on my xbox hard drive except for games, so no need to use it to search that. I stream everything else from the pc. so nothing's needed to be stored on the HD.

I don't use zune at all, so an option of Bing searching that is useless to me. I already get youtube on the PS3 if I want it, I get the entire internet on the PS3, so any specialized internet app is useless, unless they decided to add a browser app, which they seem dead set against, so all these apps are not going to be used by me.

Never going to buy a kinect, so the voice activation will never be used, nor the motion controls. I have a hard enough time navigating it with the controller, let alone waving my hands around trying to find anything.

This new dash is just a major step backwards, IMHO, and I really can't see myself buying a new xbox game in the near future just because I'm hating turning the box on anymore. I was getting back into playing ME2 right before the new dash went out, but haven't played it since. Haven't played anything in weeks because I hate the new dash so much.
