Xbox Live - Totally thugged out?

Since I've been a member of the Xbox Live community, I've noticed an alarming increase in the amount of little thugs running around in matches of Halo 2, GRAW, Gears ... whatever. You would think "coming from the streets" would make it difficult to afford the $400 dollar system, games and Live subscription, yet there they are, every game, attempting to spit some freestyle in the waiting room, trying their best to modify their speech or tone, and basically wearing on the last nerves of all the quiet, annoyed gamers who just want to play or their chance to speak. It's at it's worst when there happens to be several of them in the same game. Like they have to 1-up each other.

So, my question: Does anyone else find it odd/interesting/amusing the number of kids who sound or claim to be living "the thug's lifestyle." Also, when did it become OK for Puerto Ricans to drop the "N" bomb. Has Live become "thugged out"? Any funny experiences or stories?

For whatever reason, I usually can't hear what people are saying over my speakers. Maybe there's a setting that I have on or something like that.
 
They mostly suck, but it can be a lot of fun to fuck with them because they're really stupid.
 
I am probably the only one, but I like all the dumb shit that goes on with XBL. A good pastime of my friends and I is to play Uno, get drunk and just get dumb. Good times.
 
The best defense I have against that type is to get all of the sane people to mute him/them, because they're usually crying out for attention and nothing hits them harder than not getting that attention.

Aye, just mute the really annoying ones, or only play in the CAG groups/with people you know.

That's it in a nutshell. It can be game-specific, too: the shooters get more douches. Splinter Cell, in its heyday, had a slightly tougher learning curve, and that tended to keep the ADD gangsta-wannabe set away. But ultimately, there's no escaping it -- that's what playing games on the internet is like, across platform, from Halo 2 to World of Warcraft.

Bottom line: play with your real life friends.

This is why I didn't even bother to renew my live subscription. Ill just stick with silver. I don't play that much online anyway. Ill live with the free PSN network for a while.
 
I've always found an unpleasant amount of retards like this ever since I started playing on live. I never plug in my headset unless I'm playing with friends.
I think its internet anonymity that cause people to act like this. I certainly hope they dont act like that in public.
Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the good natured " good game" after a round of multiplayer as opposed to " I pwned you noob!".

It is internet anonymity that causes this. I mean, can you imagine, back in 1992, getting up in someone's face after you beat them in Street Fighter II? You'd get your fucking ass kicked. Now, unfortunately, there's no way for kids to get their asses kicked for acting a fool in multiplayer games.

Same here.

For the record, I noticed the same amount, if not more, of "thuggish" people over PSN. So I guess there's no escape when you're playing console games online.

I'm thinking about canceling my gold account, but Halo 3 is right around the corner . . .

You know what's funny? That's exactly what I was talking about, and I didn't even have my speakers on when I watched that clip. We're clearly already beginning to see the effects of a generation raised by television.
 
Although I cannot wait for Halo 3 to be released, the amount of people like that playing Halo will be astronomical.
 
Sadly, as a teacher, I see this kind of crap every day in school from a ton of students. I come home to play XBOX Live, and it is the same thing. I can't get away from it. Bleh.
 
I blame this high level of thuggish gamers to Tupac and his "radical" music about living the thug life. It obviously makes people cooler by calling people N*****s, and from my experience it them better gamers. :^o

I like wannabe thugs. Its hillarious to hear them cuss you out, threaten to beat your ass, and act tough online. Of course i mock and ridicule them and try to antagonize them until they start cussing even more and get frazzled.

Forntuately for me.....i get to remain in the safety and comfort of my home since they have no way of finding out where i am. hahhha.
 
I just mute anyone that annoys me. I love having that feature in there. I talk shit to my friends on there when I kill them, it is part of the fun of the game. I wouldn't acutally degrade them by saying "I just killed you n****r" or anything like that. I am in a clan of about 30 or so people on Rainbow Six: Vegas and if we get annoying people like that in the room, we give the word and they get booted, so I have no problems with this anymore. That and the fact that I usually get the most kills or at least stay alive keeps them from saying anything like that.

Well, how about Bone Thugs and Harmony? I like Tupac as well, but it just made sense with all the talk of "Thuggish" gamers. :)
 
The bigger the game the more hard teens and idiots in general you get playing. CoD4 I have played the last several days with hardly a foul kid BUT the 1st game I got into of CoD3 last night I find some lil kid with a crackling voice calling everyone N's and cussing and talking shit. I logged off and found another room it doesn't bother me but i'd rather not listen to crap the whole time if given the choice. When Halo comes out then ALL the kids will be there so other games will be better at least. :D

It even happens in the CAG matches! If you don't believe me, Play Gears with chacrana. :bomb:
 
For better XBL, do the following:
1. There is a setting in your profile to make voice chat come from speakers only, headset only, or both. Make it only headset.
2. Mute idiots and choose "avoid this player" on their profile. Optionally, file a complaint against them. Enough complaints will supposedly have consequences. This will make it much less likely that you will meet them again.
3. If anyone in a game is pleasant to play with, choose "prefer this player" on their profile and send them a friend request. They almost always accept. By pleasant, you choose your definition, ranging from "not annoying" to "really truly fun".
4. Better still, if you have any real-life friends on live get their gamertag and put them on your friends list.
5. RESULT: Eventually you'll usually be able to find a full group of like-minded people to have fun with.
 
I guess I don't play alot of public matches... in fact, I can't remember the last time I played a single one...
 
Saint's Row is a particularly hilarious breeding ground for "thug" types. There was some kid on there saying he was going to, er, cap all us bitches, to which someone else responded "Nigga, you ain't gangsta!"
 
the problem is there is no accountability regarding what you say/do on xbox live. and I am not talking about xbox live banning people, i mean real life accountability. if half of these little shits said to me in real life (i.e. either in person or even over the phone where I know the person's real name and where they live, etc) what they say over live, they would get the shit kicked out of them.

but on xbox live, nothing, it is the place where society regresses fully...it is sad though, very sad....

You know tupac never said he wanted to glorify the thug life, its just he wrote about his life and it was apart of his life.

I actually listened to like two minutes of this and it was just to painful to finish listening to DAMN YOU I WANT MY TWO MINUTES BACK!!! >_< *goes off and sulks in a corner*. I can't stand this kind of "would be" thug just drives me up the wall ugh!
 
Though I'm being biased and stereotypical, I'll go ahead and say that the majority of Asians know how to respect people. When you do meet that certain disgusting Asian, it's usually the "Asian Pride, worldwide, thug til I die I love Honda's" type of guy.


The worse kinds of people are:

-suburban middle-class white kids who think their shit doesn't stink

-black kids who think that they are the coolest people on earth.

The sad part is that it's the suburban white folks who are empowering the black folks to think they are the shit. It's a perfect circle of hell. I'm Asian and I listen to country, classical, and heavy metal (real American music) more than most white folks I meet. It seems that alot of white kids try to emulate the urban image by trying to be black...?

You can disagree with me but deep inside, you know I'm right. Go to any high school class and observe. The Asian kids know how to shut up until after class. The white kids talk but they shut up when they are told. The black kids never shut up.
