Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

Jeremy Conrad (former IGN Journalist) has commented on Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts running at 720p on Xbox One controversy.

According to Jeremy, FIFA 14, Forza 5 and NBA2K runs at 1080p on Xbox One, whereas CoD: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 runs at 720p.

Jeremy further went on to revealed the exact reason why Microsoft executives, officials and Journalists are not talking about CoD: Ghosts 720p resolution on Xbox One?, because Ghosts review embargo ends of November 5 for all platforms, whereas review embargo on Xbox One version lifts on November 12 because of 720p resolution issue.

That last part doesn't make any sense. How can Microsoft enforce an embargo on a game they aren't developing or publishing?

All this noise I'm hearing about people not owning a 1080p television strikes me as odd. By no means do I make or have big money but I was damn sure I got a 1080p capable tv when I shopped. Sure, I paid $900 but the same tv today is right around $300-$400. Nothing special, best buy off brand 42" LCD.

As far as the whole 720/1080 thing goes, I've noticed that my tv looks much better than my gfs, only recently did I discover that her tv runs 720p, I do consider myself an videophile, but that confirmed it.

I've also noticed that a lot of the ps3 games I own all run in 720. Wtf...

Won't the Xbox one upscale to 1080 like the 360 does?

it's already been talked about since e3 that bf4 will run close to 900 p on ps4 and x1 but will be upscaled to 1080 p on both. nba 2k is by far the best looking next gen game we have seen real footage on yet so that is not a bash at all for x1 .

i have been saying that all along both these things were rushed and it shows by the lack luster launch line up. if they would have waited till next fall they would have had a amazing launch lineup with titanfall and destiny and a fully done watch dogs.
Launch line up has nothing to do with it. No console has had a spectacular launch which we've talked about on here before. The amount of features not working, peripherals not working those are the bigger issues to me

I wanted to comment on so many things here but I'm not even sure where to start
Games. Games. Games.

Right now I'm playing Earthbound on my Wii U. It's fucking fantastic.

Honestly, have graphics ever mattered to the majority of gamers?

We buy new systems for the games.

As long as COD is 60fps on both systems It's going to play exactly the same. Your only differences outside of graphics will be the Live community and the controller.

Till the PS4 gets Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon, Forza 5 and Titanfall (timed exclusive or not, It's not on the PS4 as of yet) there are plenty of reasons to still buy a XB1.

To me these arguments on GAF and other sites are petty. If you have a job and don't live in your parents basement you can easily afford ALL THREE systems with a little thing called savings. So many people get their panties in a bunch because their said system doesn't look as good or doesn't have a certain game.

I'll be getting the XB1 first because I've invested so much in past Microsoft consoles, but there is no doubt in my mind that I'll get all three systems in the long run because I work for my money and can do whatever the fuck I want with it.

P.S: If your low on cash and just able to scrap enough for a PS4/XB1 then you got your priorities wrong. Twerk that backlog.

I don't think your average person is going to want to nor be able to just drop $1,200 just for systems. Hell even after that you need to buy something to play (well, at least with Wii U you will have wind waker or new super mario bros U to play out of the box).

Hell, the people that have a job and DO live in the parents basement are the ones that will likely have the funds to drop that much on new consoles, lol.

Well I bought both (mostly with trade credit), and the only reason I'm living at home is because I refuse to move into an apartment. House only for me. Still house hunting. Had to wait a bit for my credit score to go up a bit further.

I honestly think it all depends on what kind of money manager you. My top priority is and always will be making sure my bills are paid on time every month.

If you do that, and watch what games you buy, and do some flips you can afford just about anything really.

You know, sorry if this is off topic but i always wonder why people like to rag on people if they still live at home with their parents. I won't lie, my g/f and I live with her parents in their attic its pretty big and is fitted to be a room and we both work full time and pay our bills, etc. With the way the economy is today, why move out and live on our own when we can live here and save up our money?

There's just a lot of things I wanted to correct and argue about but i have decided not too, I'm to excited for the launch.

So I got on Amazon:

1. Xbox One Day One console - Owe 120.07 left on it

2. Call of Duty Ghosts Hardened Edition - Paid Off

3. Deadrising 3 - Paid Off

4. Nyko Charge Dock - Paid off (Looks like a decent deal comes with 2 rechargeable batt packs)

I'm thinking of picking up Need For Speed Rivals and Ryse as well put I'm still on the fence with those 2.

I can't wait, I'm so pumped for the 22nd.

Me and my wife live in her parents basement, we pay rent that would be nowhere near the amount that even a studio apartment in our area would be. it does not make any sense for us to move out and pay hundreds of more bucks for the same mediocrity that we have now. Time are tough, and when the nearest 1 bedroom apartment is over 700 bucks a month with no utilities I can deal with the in-laws with no complaints once so ever.

Yeah, rent is pretty bad here. Hell her parents do not bother us at all about anything. They like having us around so we can lend a hand around the house, yard work, cleaning, fixing things and all that. So its win-win for everyone really.

Hey Cheapy, can we get a dedicated X1 forum?
Here here

Ok so the Invitation Ad for Xbox One will be airing with Sunday Night Football but since it's the internet, we can see it now lol.

http://youtu.be/BfS5Rp2Lr9I

Pretty cool, they used a real P1 there and I recommend heading to Xbox Wire to watch the making of which is neat as well. I'm still waiting for summer of 2014 to pick one up but It's still a pretty neat ad for gaming.

Ok so yeah when it comes to fast paced action I could give two flying fucks if it's true 1080P, I'd rather have a smooth framerate so my gameplay doesn't suffer where I'm penalized and die from something out of my control. I'd like to be killed by my own accord and not because it looks really good but framerate hit/laggy.

Also the NBA 2K14 stuff, the lighting, high resolution textures, cloth physics, smoother motion captured animations and what not pretty much shows you what you can get with next gen versions of a game that's also available on current gaming systems.

http://youtu.be/5twy1o46YKA

If you watch the break down from Ryan McCaffrey on IGN he mentions Fight Night 3 and how everyone was like woah that looks hella good. You didn't even have to love boxing, everybody picked up that game.

Now with that said Ryse on the other hand looks really good with CryEngine behind it and everything but I'm just not as confident that it'll be a great game. It'll probably end up being a good launch title and that'll be about it.

people that make fun of people for living at home are the same people that one day end up being in the same shoes after they lose thier job in this great economy this country has ;)

You and I both know I am not referring to people like you when it comes to living in the basement. That situation is entirely different. Don't try to play it off as that.

Also, $1,200 is nothing compared to what people are spending on gaming PCs, a lot of them on CAG to be precise. For that price you get all 3 systems and a helluva lot more variety then just your steam sales and humble bundles.

Get 4 eneloop rechargeable batteries and a charger on Amazon. They are awesome and last forever plus they are cheaper. My first 4 pack of batteries lasted 3 years and that was only one set (2 of the batteries) that died. The other two are still going strong. The rechargeable battery packs for the 360 were absolute trash. Maybe they will be improved for the One but I wouldn't risk it. The rechargeable 360 packs lasted maybe 6 months.

I live in Kansas so housing isn't nearly as pricey as it is on the coasts. I own a 1,500 sq ft house with 3bed/2bath and a full finished basement. We pay $800 a month for it.

If you have to pay that much for a studio apartment, I'd probably live with my parents and pay rent too. Most of the people who rag on others about material things can't afford everything they have to begin with.

The problem I have is that I'm too close to Chicago.

That's cool. Kind of reminds of when the Dreamcast came out, NFL2K was one of the "games to have" even if you weren't especially interested in football, just because it was so impressive.

They probably like listening to you having sex as well "That's it honey, scream the walls down"

So we all looking forward to gimped Ghosts and BF4 then ??

To be fair, we're pretty much one of the only cultures that frowns upon multi generation co-habitation.

We're getting closer to the big date, boys and girls!  I love that little things are starting to trickle out, like this pic with final boxes:

It's not a big deal, really, but just teases whats to come.  I'm also very excited about the Kinect Sports Rivals preseason!  It's free, it's a demo of the one game I'm really excited about in K-Sports and you can unlock avatar stuff.  That has my name written all over it!

If I had a family we would have had to move in with them. My RA has gotten so bad that I cant work. Ive sold all my collectibles so I could pay some of our bills off and the last of it is for the new console. I used to be able to get all three consoles when I was making bank, but thats not happening any more. Thats why Ive had a hard time going back and forth between XB1/PS4. I know it may sound weird here, but i wish they would have shown more Kinect games because of my little girl. I want something that we can play together.

I get that about your little girl, i have a niece and nephew nearby that love the Kinect when they come over for family stuff.

To be fair, we're pretty much one of the only cultures that frowns upon multi generation co-habitation.
It's a natural extension of the focus on individuality and independence. Moving out of your parent's house is considered a display of personal strength, proof that you are becoming your own person.

Many other cultures have a much greater emphasis on the importance of the group over the self. And the family is the most immediately obvious group that people belong to. So moving out of the family's home isn't as common. (or looked down upon) This can also be a matter of economics, but it often persists even if the family is doing well financially.

It also makes a lot of sense from a financial point of view. Rushing to pay rent is a great way to saddle yourself with debt. Spending a year or two with your parents while you try to get a stable job before moving out is a prudent move.

those things look just like blu ray boxes i like :D will blend in well with my movies

im picking ac4 on x1. I want to hear reviews on the game before i drop 60 bucks on it after the last couple ac games were just avg at best.

but if you want to play it bad just get it for current gen the game play will not change at all or story the game might just look better which for me is not a big deal.

I would just wait the few weeks (I'm so pumped I can say that now, were so close) and buy the next gen games then. They cost the same as current gen and are bound to be better whether it be graphics or gameplay.

If you can afford to move out you should, if you can't you shouldn't.

I landed my first job 6 months out of college making $36,000. I was out 6 months after that splitting rent on an apartment that cost $975 a month plus cable/phone/air-conditioning.

I only wish that were what I pay to live now lol

As far as AC4 If you want to get it now I think you can at best buy and trade it back for the Xbox One version in addition to paying $10.

This is me, too. ACIV looks too good to pass up on and if it's on the next gen, I can wait. Plus, it gives a little buffer time just in case the reviews trash it. #themoreyouknow

I've heard we haven't even seen current gen footage of stuff like ACIV, BF4, COD, etc. It probably looks like ass.

There's a rumor going around that Xbox One's OS isn't anywhere near ready, but I've also heard the issues are pretty normal for a console launch and it'll be fine when it's actually out. Guess we'll see.

So much for the rumors of PS4 BEING SO MUCH BETTER. XBOX 1 SUCKS!!! BF 4 Xbox One is definitely better....

Nice of you to post a video without actually reading the attached article, which points out that these aren't on final hardware, and also

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-battlefield-4-next-gen-vs-pc-face-off-preview

"PlayStation 4 offers a commanding lead in terms of resolution - it's 720p vs. 900p, with what looks like some very curious processing on Xbox One to boost detail."
Also to sum up:

Our observations so far reveal a clear gap in fidelity between PC and PS4, and again to Xbox One, but sub-pixel break-up aside, based on what we've seen so far, the Microsoft console manages to hold up despite the undeniable, quantifiably worse metrics in terms of both resolution and frame-rate.
Basically both versions have their issues, but apparently Xbox One has more than PS4.

I'm not bashing it. It definitely has things the Xbox One doesn't like clouds and better resolution on things really far away but I'm not going to notice that stuff. As far as colors and lighting Xbox One looks better to me. PS4 looks washed out again like a lot of PS3 games looked.

To the above post...Do you really think you're going to notice the 720p vs 900p when you are actually playing the game? Sure when you watch a video in slow motion its easy to see, but when you are actually playing you're barely going to notice that stuff.

Correction...I didn't see the article on the bottom of the description. I don't see where they say Xbox One has so many issues compared to the PS4. The biggest thing is the resolution which again you aren't really going to notice unless you're specifically hunting for it.

How does final hardware vs dev kit matter here? The dev kits are running on basically the same specs as the final builds.

Yeah. Most posters in the comment section of IGN are saying the PS4 version looks way better anyway so why even post video of evidence.

I have nothing against Sony at all. I have owned every PSx and was well aware the PS3 was a much more powerful machine.

But I must be blind if the PS4 version is overall better looking.

PS4 version is obviously better looking. In the DF video they crushed the blacks and sharpened the image. You can do that on your tv.

The ign video is much better

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=705961

The issue here is simple; Tom had a limited amount of time to capture this stuff and was not able to do so in a normal environment. If mistakes were made normally, it would be easy to go back and correct, but with the way this worked, it wasn't really possible.

Why so different? DF uses their own hardware for capturing while DICE were handing out Elgato boxes to everyone else. The DF hardware is actually much more capable but it works differently and, without the experience of working with these new consoles, I can see a situation where settings were dialed in wrong.

JF used what DICE provided and probably didn't even attempt to change any settings which, in this case, turned out to be for the best.
A DF employee went on Gaf to explaining the video problems, and there are some examples in the first post.

Thinking of picking up one of the chargers that's coming out:

-Nyko Charge Base

-PDP Energizer Charger

Both are $30 at Amazon...anyone have any experience with these in prior generations and could recommend one over the other? I'd rather go with one of these (they both come with 2 battery packs) as opposed to the $25 for the Play-Charge Kit.

Bottom line is: BF4 doesn't blow the XB1 version away in terms of quality graphics, It's better but not blow your socks off better. However, if your going to go with a next gen console and *DO NOT* care about Microsoft's exclusives or the Kinect, the PS4 is the way to go. This has been the case pre-launch though, when we all knew PS4 had better hardware and was $100 cheaper (ignoring Kinect which everyone seems to ignore). Just Saiyan'.

I thought battlefield beta was boring .What is going to interest me is how polished COD Ghosts Turd is going to look on PS4 versus the X1, we've already heard ramblings of the X1 being 720 and PS4 1080p. Battlefield is 900p vs 720p so less of a difference.

Also, the review embargo is real. Gamespot posted a BF4 review on PS4, IGN posted a review of AC4 on PS4. No XB1 versions on both sites.
