Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

That's a crap shoot. After recording one video today saying "Xbox Record That" doesn't work (it registers but no gameplay clip is recorded)/ Game DVR doesn't work anymore ("can't record that" then long ass error code) and apparently it's a bug people had back in Dec according to my research online. WTF Hmmm a hard reset seemed to fix it.
Hard resets seem to fix every problem I ever had. Seeing x1 is built on windows fast start mode keeps all settings and never erase stuff like windows sleep mode.

I'm getting angry at the Xbox One's game DVR.  I've had a few epic moments recorded on Titanfall now without sound.  A hard reboot would fix it, but seriously?  I can't just redo that moment in time!

And now, I just did a hard reboot and recorded a clip directly after . . . no sound again.  Thanks for the shitty update, Microsoft!  Didn't have this issue before the beta . . .

Other than for that, I love my Xbox.  I just hate when it doesn't work as intended.

Also, anyone know how to get a Twitch stream to auto-record / archive to YouTube?  I'd be interested in perhaps doing that as my "Game DVR" option instead, and then go back and trim the clips on my PC.  I'd at least be guaranteed to have sound!

After you stream you can then edit any highlights then upload those to Youtube.

Hrm . . . it doesn't show my previous broadcasts.

Aha . . . I found a setting to automatically archive previous broadcasts that I thought I had checked.  That might help!  Thanks.

You also agreed to give them feedback in their beta forum so they can fix issues before final release, not on CAG where they will never see it.

No shit. Doesn't mean I agreed to be happy about when they break something that was working perfectly fine, does it? But hey, let's make assumptions that I didn't give *them* the feedback! That'll do it!

Nope, definitely haven't been giving them feedback. I've just been joining betas for years so that I have no impact on the future of a product that I use daily. That's the ticket!

Apparently letting off steam isn't allowed here, otherwise people may get pissy.

i think this april update messed up chat in mic. some reason since i got april update week or so ago my chat comes out of tv speakers until i do a hard system reboot.

Yeah my GameDVRs don't have any sound anymore...

http://youtu.be/WHoa59REvKI

I am enjoying seeing favorites show up when they sign in online.

how can a system update mess with audio so bad i know i had no sound game clip issue and since beta update week or so ago most times i get no voice chat from headset and only on tv but hard boot fixes it.

Because Microsoft.
yep you are right microsoft is only company that puts out issues with updates. i can name many times over life of my ps3 had updates that had issues with system. like the one just last summer that was bricking ps3's i would take audio issue over that anyday. But hey im not here to troll anymore.

With that said what makes me wonder why it's not fixed seeing this issue was going on during the beta some of us had for couple weeks now. Why was this problem never addressed before main launch of patch puzzles me.

is that your music we hear or is it going in and out on the game?
Yes that is music I made because, like I mentioned in the video's description, I didn't want to go through having my video flagged by Youtube with somebody else's music. Unfortunately I found out that there's a bit of a dynamic range for the Kinect's auto-normalized volume from music to my voice over.

dude chill out. i was joking around, lol.

I'd recommend a lolz, smiley emote, at the end or it just looks like you're doing the typical oh hey man I was just joking act.

One thing, the notifications of favorites is quite appreciated, makes your connected system feel like you know you're part of a bigger world (your Xbox Live friend's list). Baffling why they seemed to omit it at launch as it was one of the main staples for the Xbox 360. However it still needs tweaking and I'm wondering who would do that? As for example I was playing a lovely round of Powerstar Golf and as I was lining up a shot a notification popped up ultimately covering up my power/accuracy hit meter. Geee, thanks, shanked it. This new UI element is now in games that the developers didn't envision them in their design so would developers have to update their games or would that fall on some office staff from Microsoft? Third option unfortunately would be they don't do anything about it.

seems like clips with no audio don't always happen i just watched a friends and it had sound then another one he made after did not.
Yeah my GameDVR clips have sound on them now. Odd as today before I couldn't even record any clips (that's a first). Again after a hard reset things are working again.

Microsoft has announced they sold (To retailers) 5 million Xbox Ones. The Xbox One is outpacing Xbox 360 sales by 60 percent having sold 311,000 units in March.

Xbox One is averaging 2.9 bought Games per console sold. This is compared to the PS4's attachment rate of 2.93

Xbox One Held 4 of the 10 games in the Generation 8 list for March. Those being Plants VS Zombies, COD Ghosts, MGS 5, and Titanfall.

How is that possible when the numbers for MGS 5 were exponentially better for the PS4 then the X1?

5 million is nothing to sneeze at... though PS4 still outsold X1 in March---even with the $50 price drop & Titanfall bundling

They are just saying that a game that is on their system was in the top 10, not that it sold better on Xbox One. Its a little misleading.

PS4 is all over the world, that's the main reason. Glad to hear both consoles are super healthy and that'll spur in more current-gen games into development like Arkham Knight.

No I was about to edit my original post---it makes sense now as they said "Generation 8" list; so basically the top ten games sold between PS4 and Xbox One (Do they include Wii U).

So they had 4 games in the top 10 while PS4 had 6

microsoft made mistake by not putting xbox one out in more country's. With that said ms knows u.s is their main battle ground so i don't think ms could care about major world sales which is why u.s got that bundle for titanfall

How much more do you think they would have sold if they were out in more countries? Which of the ones that they arent out in would make the biggest impact?

Im not getting all the doom and gloom for the X1. 5 million consoles sold is impressive and its still so early to declare the ps4 the "winner". The X1 has made great strides from release and I truely feel its the best console out right now in terms of features and games. I'm a happy owner and I think the future is bright.

Czech Republic.

5mil was "units shipped" the number of actual sold to customers is around 4.5 million.

even at 4.5 million yes it's 2.5 million below ps4 but it's still impressive this day and age when gaming industry feel like is going down fast. i expect numbers will go up if the rumors of all the halo remakes coming to system this fall.

It's disgusting to think Ghosts is still selling that well, even with TItanfall out. But they have some pretty steep fire sales IE $30 at the MS Store and Newegg, even cheaper today at $25. Call of Duty is still the most casual friendly game on the market even another gen in.

The good news was Titanfall doubled Infamous sales, but you have to count the bundles. I believe on GAF It's already on track to be the second best selling game on the system and will probably rival Ghosts sales. It will be interesting to see what the next COD does for numbers.

5 million also isn't bad at all for shipped numbers, It's still impressive but the PS4 is just more impressive all considering it outsold the X1 despite the amazing sales Microsoft put out in March for the system.

I'd say at this point that MS is going to announce a flat cut of $50 to the system or match the PS4 price but remove the Kinect, selling it as a optional accessory for $150. I know a lot of people will piss and moan over the fact that the system was supposed to be built around the Kinect, but the only way MS is going to even come close to the PS4 in sales is by ditching the Kinect. At this rate if they don't do anything drastic the PS4 will most likely double it in sales come the Fall.

Course the good news out of the NPD is the XB1 is probably going to outsell the Wii U by the fall/early winter unless Mario Kart ends up giving it some rather insane numbers. Right now using VGChartz (bleh) and other estimates It's 6 million vs 5 million, MS isn't that far behind and should take the lead with China and other Tier 2 countries.

Where are the exact numbers? And NPD is U.S. only right?

The only thing I've seen in that regard is that X1 AND PC (two platforms) of Titanfall outsold PS4 (i.e. one platform) of Infamous... not to mention Titanfall released ten days earlier then Second Son (March 11 vs. March 21st)

Frankly, it doesn't matter who 'wins' besides bragging rights - and what system developers will likely target initially. Both systems had healthy launches. Both will see great games. And both will have exclusives. All the talk of which one is 'winning' puts me to sleep faster than a double-shot of morphine.

Xbox One doom and winning? I haven't seen any other cag from this thread that has brought it up recently. The only cag who has brought up the issues about winning and doom is asspickle and you Kylearan. Not sure why you guys are being so defensive on a post that has not been made by any cags yet.

But yeah it's great that both companies are selling stuff and making money. So I guess that is good for us..?

The territories Microsoft hasn't launched in are Sony land.  There is a reason Microsoft hasn't launched in those territories yet and that's because they would barely make a dent.  They are struggling to sale inventory in their strong territories so what makes people think their weak territories are going to be any better?  And when they finally do launch in those territories in September it may add another 500k to the Xbox total and give them a slight uptick that month, but at the pace the PS4 is outselling the Xbox One, it's hardly going to matter, Sony will probably be over a 2:1 ratio by then especially with no exclusive AAA titles on the slate for the Xbox One until this fall.  Meanwhile the PS4 is about to launch MLB The Show, Transistor, best console version of Watch Dogs (also promoted with exclusive PS4 content), The Last of Us Remastered, Destiny Beta, best console version of Destiny (also promoted with exclusive PS4 content), and possibly the best console version of GTA V.  How is Microsoft going to counter that summer to fall lineup?

Also to those thinking the Xbox One numbers are good, to put it in perspective, Microsoft announced 3.9 million consoles shipped to retailers on January 1st.  Today they announced 5 million consoles shipped to retailers, that means if you take away the bloated launch numbers they have only shipped 1.1 million consoles in 3 1/2 months.  In comparison Sony is selling that many consoles a month.  The numbers are bad and don't let Microsoft PR convince otherwise especially when you factor in Microsoft just released possibly the most hyped game ever, Titanfall and have been discounting the console like crazy.  Also note that on Jan 1st Microsoft announced 3 million sold through to customers, so 900 thousand units sitting in retail channels.  If we assume that number hasn't changed that means the total sold through to customers is around 4.1 million, nearly 3 million behind the PS4 and that gap is widening.

Microsoft is in trouble, and there is going to be something drastic that happens between now through E3.  Whether it is a major price drop, which may not be enough to do anything anyway as the recent Xbox One sales have put the price far below the cost of the PS4, or the removal of Kinect and dropping the price even more drastically like around $330, who knows?  But those who think Microsoft is fine with just making money are fooling themselves, they went into this for control of the market and a distant second place is not going to cut it for them.  Things are going to be very interesting the next couple months in the Xbox camp.

Uh...WHAT????? What system developers target initially is extremely important. Have you played any of the games that were developed for Xbox 360 then ported to the PS3 on both systems? Wait don't answer that because it's obviously no.

I wouldn't say MS is in trouble, but they definitely can't be happy with where they are at and how much they're sales slowed down after the holidays.

It's nearly certain that they're going to be in second place, and probably a fairly distant second place given Titanfall didn't get them past Sony in it's release month and Sony has the bigger line up through fall most likely unless MS can get Halo 5 out (and not have it a rushed job that gets poorly received).

But it's still selling well relative to past console launches (thought if it doesn't pick up it will fall behind 360 trends later this year I believe) and they have a good attach rate. So they can make a lot of money selling games to a smaller market than Sony has with the PS4 and be fine. Sure, they'd love to be in first place, but they're hardly doomed.

They do need to work on getting price down somehow. Dropping Kinect is the easiest way to do that without losing money. Slap a microphone on the front of the X1 for the Kinectless sku and keep the voice command stuff that people seem to like (and save on having to redo the OS). Otherwise, sales show people clearly don't want to pay $100 more for Kinect when the system is less powerful than the competition and just doesn't have the buzz the competition has.

But even that may be moot if Sony is really determined to build a big lead up again as they'd probably just drop price some to and be willing to eat some losses to gain marketshare. They really botched the PS3 launch and first couple of years and have been working hard to make amends with core gamers since then so that would't surprise me at all.

To be fair, the system architectures were very different last gen. They're mostly identical this time, the X1 is just a little less powerful.

So we shouldn't get many games like say Skyrim that were terrible on PS3. X1 versions will just be lower resolution and lower frame rates like we've already seen. That does matter in sales as people read or hear about that for games and get swayed to wanting the more powerful system--especially when they see it is cheaper.

But for most owners, it's not a big deal as most aren't videophiles who are going to notice a game is 900p native instead of 1080p. But it can have a lot of marketing/word of mouth impact for people on the fence about which to get.

That's a good point. I hope that you're right. We really won't know for at least a year. Nothing coming out this year was developed when the developers had a "real" console to work with (for the majority of development).

I dunno, that doesn't look very impressive to me -- two ports of last-gen games (one of which will also be on the Xbox One), two new games that'll also be on the Xbox One, a baseball game that appeals to a niche, and "Transistor," which doesn't really look like a system seller. That looks like a killer line-up that can't be defeated? Then again, I guess it would excite PS4 owners who haven't had a whole lot to play since launch while MS has rolled out a fairly good line-up for this early in a system's lifespan. But going forward -- you also seem to have seen every card MS has dealt at E3 in terms of game announcements.

In general I think the doom and gloom thought process lacks perspective. And so what if Sony does win this gen? MS can't make a profit off the XB1, especially if it does well in the states? Did Sony bail out over the PS3's troubles -- even though the company took a massive bath on Blu-Ray and lost money throughout the last generation (just look at what happened to their stock? I mean, Sony's stock has continued to drop in 2014 even with the strong PS4 sales). It's not as if MS has committed to pushing something like Blu-Ray in the XB1.

Nobody is saying they don't have work to do -- but we're barely 6 months from launch, and strong gaming support will help it at least in North America. To a degree I think MS cares much more about that than the worldwide sales Sony is likely to win anyway.

Don't underestimate the power of exclusive DLC, timed exclusive DLC and stuff like that for big games like Destiny.

CoD getting DLC first etc. last gen no doubt helped that game build a bigger base on 360 and to sell consoles as that series exploded in popularity.

But agreed that doom and gloom is too much. I want Sony to win as what they're doing matches my interests and wants in a game console far more than what MS or Nintendo is doing in terms of being cheaper, more focused on gaming than the other features, broad library including a lot of Japanese and indie support/exclusives, not forcing in a camera (though I wish the DS4 didn't have the move light bar driving up cost and driving down battery life some), and that they didn't (at least publically) try to push DRM.

That said, all that could change next gen. Last gen I wanted 360 to win after Sony forced in Bluray, launched at $500/600, told us to get a second job to afford their console etc. I have no loyalty and just throw my money and support to which every company (or companies) is doing the best job that generation at moving/keeping gaming in a direction I want it to go. No brand loyalty. I have no interest in VR, won't buy Sony's Project Morpheus and hope it has no more than niche success. Gaming is a hobby and I'm selfish with it and want it to stay something I enjoy and not totally morph into experiences that don't appeal to me.

Both play games. Both have controllers. Both have video and music stores. Both have media streaming apps. They are both multimedia consoles. Hell, if people want to go with the gaming argument why not support Nintendo? But even they are adding media streaming features. So what makes the Playstation more gaming focused other than Sony pr/executives said so and made a funny YouTube video?

Actually if you look at what came out for 360 vs PS3 just over the last 2 years, you'll see a large variety of games on PS3 vs on Xbox 360. Many of them were 1st party developed games that were for PSN. Games made by Studio Japan and Santa Monica come to mind immediately. The only exclusives I can think of that are on the Xbox platform from last gen were Gear of War, Halo, Fable, and Alan Wake. Of those, only Alan Wake told an interesting story. People looking for narrative driven games are more likely to find it on the PS4 going forward (Quantum Break excluded - what with that being the Xbox One's Alan Wake).
