Xbox One on the way. DRM removed, more details to come.

I'm surprised Microsoft changed their minds after stating "this isn't a sprint" and saying Xbox 360 is the only offline device (along with the submarine comment which is even worse). Funny how the XBox One is an all in one device, yet their employees have so many different comments on what the console does. Looking back, this is going to make the Microsoft Xbox brand look somewhat foolish though.
Once they saw the pre-order numbers everything they had envisioned for the Xbox one went out the fucking window. Truth.
Both consoles seem neck and neck on the most preorders sold from what I heard.

I wouldn't doubt it for a second, but even that's not necessarily a bad thing. Offer it in a way that people would want to accept that restriction, and you don't have an issue. MS failed horribly at that. Bring it back when google fiber is everywhere, I doubt you'll see much of an uproar then.

many people said x1 was going to come out week before blackfriday and looks like ps4 will be coming out on 21 thanks to a leaked add. would be interesting if both came out the same week

Tomboy says he will stop and the other troll appears. It's like Eric the Actor and Derek from Texas for Stern fans :)
And where do you fit in, I suppose you're High Pitch?
+1 for being a fan at least!
Definitely a fan, really liked his appearance on Fallon last night, was hoping he would bring up the Conan situation.

I would literally bet my entire stock portfolio your wrong on that count. Gamers have shown, repeatedly, that they are perhaps the most stubborn bunch of people on the planet. I doubt that's going to change to be honest.

Seriously, I cant even begin to describe how disappointed I am that again we have consoles that are the same. You know who has the balls? Nintendo. So far, they've been the only console manf to actually think outside the dudebroBox. It's won them one generation, and who knows...it just might win them this one as well. (Hell, it's won them a ton of generations if you think about it, but just talking recently)

Never figured I'd say this, but I honestly wish it was still Nintendo and Sega. At least then we had wildly different console philosophies and directions to choose from.

Now? Coke or Pepsi, what's it gonna be. Its the same shit, just a different flavor.

No way these ads are out yet Timbo, or even drafted for that matter. I'd doubt any source that said they already had a BF ad.

This pulled me back in...tin foil hats for everyone who believes this article. There are conspiracies upon conspiracies in it.
I don't believe that this whole thing was a marketing ploy. But I do believe they are going to do whatever it takes to entice digital sales. I think they bring back the benefits they took away today and give those to people who buy the digital version. Probably lower price the digital version over the retail. And by the way I feel this was Sony's plan all along as well.

I think both companies do not wait 8 years for their next console, probably 5 years, and since they went PC architecture it should be fully backward compatible, and people will be used to all digital by then and then bring out their DRM boxes.

Leaked 5 months ahead? Damn son.

In all seriousness, not happy about the day after Black Friday. Most of us retail folk have to work, couldn't they do the week before or after?

I honestly hope they do that as well. I think that would please everyone, and give MS a leg up over Sony.. at least until Sony does the same thing, which I agree that I think they wanted to as well.

Perhaps it's just me, but I think both companies were changing their policy up until the very last minute regarding this. Especially when you read that post from Gamefly and Gamestop. The Gamefly article in particular tells me that both companies had a plan, that likely would have hurt both used and rental game businesses and put the ball back into the publishers court.

.........

By the way, thanks for having some actual discussion Rippn. It gets your point across extremely well, and you've actually made a number of fair points since you've changed posting styles. <3

There was an ad (not a store ad, but an ad comparing the One/PS4 systems) but it was from The Sun or some unreliable bs magazine.

Edit: beaten.

I guess I'll just say I'm glad MS did what they did and I find it odd that so many people are seemingly upset. This doesn't push us back into the 90s as someone put it. I think the future is pretty clearly digital (which X1 will have) and then streaming of games. I'm all about moving forward into the future (just not on Microsofts crazy train) and I just don't see how having the option to trade and sell your discs is pushing anything back. If nothing else I guess it's at least maintaining the status quo.

I'm also not sure why MS apparently can't do digital sharing now. It's easy to say well they have to do the online checks and such, but just because they aren't requiring it now certainly doesn't mean they can't do it at all. Something seems weird to me there..

yeah good chance it's fakei did not think it was that sun magazine that puts lame articles in that magazine. i still remember reading a cover story about a alien cat found in u.s on that magazine lol.

Appreciate that, I think I've been a little too passionate on the whole issue and it's come across as abrasive, for that I apologize.

I'm a bit disappointed as well, I was really looking forward to watching MS crash and burn.

So close... :bs:

i think i need to apologize also reading back on things i have been a A** alot no really need for that in the end we are all party of a great CAG community. i really have no hard feelings towards people like rippin and harry219.

So, discs are back, along with used games, does it force Microsoft to alter their pricing model for digital distribution?

360 has been pretty terrible with the games on demand pricing, but IF they want to force digital distribution, will digital games be $10 less at release?

I feel like I answered my own question with the 360 reference...

If it's devolving into Rippn vs. Timbo, then yeah we might need a new thread, but there are still plenty of serious issue with the Xbone that may stop it from winning this round. Oh wait, it didn't win last round either unless you only count North America and dismiss the Wii...
seriously, who fucking cares who "wins"

Is my system around for 10 years with good games.....thats what I care about, not this crap of winning a dam console war that means nothing but to fanboys.

i doudt ps4/x1 gen last long as this current one did i think we see new systems in 5-6 years. good chance those systems will be 100 percent digital.

I think the fact that all games will hit the xbox marketplace the same day as retail is a good sign.

I also see Tomb Raider is on the xbox marketplace for $30 which is the same price as amazon right now.

I don't think digital games will be lower on release, but I think we might see better digital sales next gen.

Funny how Xbox One fanboys wanted us all to shut up. You should be very happy we didn't because now you get a console worth owning.
If the family plan is gone this is a worse system for me but thanks for your help.
The only reason there was ever going to be a family plan in the first place was to try and assuage the pissed off people who you are "thanking".

You know, if MS can change their entire X1 structure this easily, it makes me wonder how much of it was set in stone to begin with and how much of this is simply their contingency plan once they realized preorder numbers werent good.  I cant imagine its easy for them to change the entire authentication process so easily unless it was never fully developed in the first place.

good chance it's software based which is why you need day one update. it will be this easy for them say 2-3 years down the road to put all this back into place.

I was going to buy the Xbox at launch. They announced all this shit and I decided to never buy one. Now that they're backing it out I'm going to wait for a hardware revision then buy it. I'm just not ready to make the commitment until they've got a track record. Plus I want to see if they put out any games that are true exclusives that I want to play. None yet.

I'm a little late on hearing the news of the complete about face on the XBone policies, holy crap is this great news.  I'm still disappointed a useless peripheral like the Kinect will be shoved down our throats and that is probably what's making the XBone cost $100 more but other than that I couldn't have asked for a better announcement and never would have dreamed they would have changed their minds on all of this.  I'm glad I'll be able to buy both consoles now next gen and the XBone will almost certainly be the first one I buy.

Well said. Frankly it's embarrassing for Microsoft. Makes them look like they have no direction, and worse no guts. Would like to have seen two consoles going in totally different directions. We might have gotten some interesting questions answered about what model is truly more profitable for the industry and what impact used games actually have. Now we're just going to be feeding the Gamestop parasite for another gen.
But... But their old policy would have strengthened Gamestop. Why was this idea that the X1 was some sort of champion for the developers against evil Gamestop brought up over and over again? I just don't get it. With the old policy only certain retailers could take trades and you can be damn sure GS was one of them. Actual owners of the games (ie, us) had their ability to sell/lend/trade severely limited and this would have removed competition from GS, thus helping them out.

Not sure why either. I'm not sure why we simply cant have two policies. Buy it digital, enjoy family sharing, disc-less play (obviously) and on the fly game swapping. Buy it with a disc, enjoy renting, trading in and selling your game.

Why oh why coudnt we simply have both? Is that a greedy thing to ask for? :/
I believe this is what I and many others have been saying all along. It is too bad MS didn't come out with this policy at E3 or their earlier reveal - that would have put Sony on the defensive (about what their digital rights policy would be) and that might have ended up as win-win-win all around.

More proof that these spies don't give a damn about their consumers, just their money. Tried to force garbage down their throats when, obviously, there was no need to. At least enough Xbox players said NO to being a pushed over door mat. I guess the 992 pre orders they got weren't cutting it.

No internet? Buy a 360!

Lmao. Follow the leader. As usual.

At least MS got the right idea before release and making the changes NOW cause it would have been too late after release. I am sure they looked at pre-orders which were bad already but prob had an idea from message boards that a lot of people pre-ordered both systems and were going to wait till the release date got closer before going to cancel one (which most likely would have been the Xbone and who could blame them). In no way did Xbox just beat the PS4 but they will now be able to sell more consoles. The $100 extra price and forced Kinect and prob a couple of other things will still keep the PS4 ahead IMO.

i wonder if this was all some... publicity stunt..  like I love Bees but for 2013 ....

DRM issue had everyone talking about the xbox.....

Wow, now people are taking the credit for Xbox changing their policies....LOL
Well the statement they put out did say "Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One."

Were they on this forum? Probably not. Were they on forums and comment threads on blogs all over the net? Yes absolutely.

Although it was probably more a combination of gamer outrage all over the net, shareholder pressure, low pre-orders, them seeing Jimmy Fallon incorrectly say on national TV that PS4 would be the only system allowing used games and non gamers cheering their asses off, and other factors I can't think of off the top of my head.

When I said we I meant all the people out there championing the cause, myself included, this isn't the only site I post on btw. And every site there were people defending Microsoft's policies. So that was my point.

I was looking forward to the Xbox One as it was (especially not having to swap discs), and wish Microsoft would've stood their ground. I guess it's my turn to complain? I don't mind having to "check in" every 24 hours. I hope they at least make it optional.

We've been trying to explain this to him for 100-some-odd pages.
